281  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: January 17, 2024, 08:59:03 PM
Keeping our gambling habits a secret is very important because it ensures that someone is not influenced by us, especially when it comes to those closest to us and we don't want them to become addicted to gambling, usually people who are new to casinos usually have high curiosity, therefore  It's best to distance ourselves from relatives or friends, at least playing when we're alone is much better.  rather than playing online casinos when with friends.

Keeping your gambling habit secret is optional as it varies amongst gamblers. It all depends on the person gambling. Your point of keeping it a secret for fear of influencing others. I don’t think it would any fault of yours if someone else get influenced without you putting any effort into doing so.
People enjoy gambling with friends as it could be enjoyable winning and losing with friends around having cheers and boos when there’s a win and when there’s a loss.

There are some activities that aren’t just fun when done alone.
282  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling can be a hope restorer if we go about it wisely! on: January 17, 2024, 08:38:36 PM
I would say that guy is just lucky to win an amount that enabled him to purchase another bus. And he’s wise enough to put that money to good use. With money gotten from gambling, he got back on track so I guess in a way,, gambling could be a hope restorer like you put it if you go about it wisely. There are lots of people that have won huge sums and go ahead to put it to good use as well as lots of people that have won huge sums and go ahead to squander it, losing it all in no time.

I don’t think the thought of gambling being a “hope restorer”  could turn out healthy for some people. When gamblers start to depend on gambling as a last resort to get that win that would turn things around, that’s when the decline into addiction slowly starts.
283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you pay attention on other people bet and it amount, and does it affect you? on: January 16, 2024, 11:47:55 PM
That is how the idea of this topic appeared. I watch others gamble, I watch how the bet, I start to think about betting more than usually. Do you have such feeling also? Do you have a feeling that if others make large bets, that you also must bet large, otherwise you would feel like uncomfortable, or feel like a poor among rich, or something of that kind.

I think it’s only natural to want to do things like someone else does if the way being done by others seems to be coming out positively.
And I also think people betting with higher amounts of money could influence others who can’t afford to comfortably bet as high as others.  They could easily be influenced to bet with more money. Money that they ordinarily can’t afford to part with.

Admittedly, not everyone would feel pressured to bet with more money than they should, but a good number of people would.  Personally, I don’t let anyone pressure me into doing what I don’t want to do. And that includes spending more money than I originally intended on spending.
284  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Woes of gambling on: January 12, 2024, 04:42:49 AM
Gambling makes people addicted, those who gamble are now addicted to gambling. And there are many who gamble for fun, common jackpots people participate in because of the temptation that once luck opens, the future will surely be good. I have seen many online acquaintances participate in the jackpot and they always participate in the jackpot. I have usually hit the jackpot twice but never managed to win. That's why now I gamble 4-5 days a week and retire the rest of the days.

Gambling doesn’t make people addicted, rather people are the one who get addicted to gambling. A whole lot of people today gamble and are responsible about it too. Addiction doesn’t emerge just cause you gamble. Compulsive gambling on the other hand, often done by irresponsible gamblers could get such gamblers addicted in no time. You mentioned it yourself. There are folks who gamble for fun. Surely those folks aren’t addicts.

It’s crazy that people would rather seek to fault gambling for their financial woes and willfully ignore their roles in it all.
285  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drug (cocaine) addicts compromises gambling potentials on: January 12, 2024, 02:54:33 AM
We’re almost always the cause of our own misfortunes. And in this case, the fault lies squarely with the individual. He was probably addicted first to drugs and to continue to get more satisfaction, he’ll increase his intake.
Heard a misconception about gambling and quickly became interested as it seemed like a cool easy avenue to bring in more money. Enough to buy to his fill.
Entering the gambling scene, his desire to win quickly got him hooked as well. He had let his desires control his actions and in furtherance, his life.
286  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you think gambling every day is better? on: January 11, 2024, 11:12:23 PM
It’s quite sad as your friend has created a theory that keeps him motivated enough to continue gambling even if he continuously looses. I doubt he hardly thinks of his losses as he probably has his eyes set on the big win. The big win that’s just around the corner.
An average gambler cannot afford to play daily with unrealistic hopes of winning it soon. He could lose literally everything and if he takes such an advice. Addiction would not far off as well. Your friend needs help and definitely need to take some time off gambling.
287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do not gamble with Loan Money~otherwise you will be in danger like me on: January 11, 2024, 09:57:56 PM
Gambling with any money no matter it is from a loan, a salary, you get it for free can be a big mistake if you do not know how to gamble and manage the money responsibly.
Even if with a loan, as long as you can manage the money responsibly, it is not a big mistake.
It will be a big mistake if you think that you will be able to repay the loan with the money you win from gambling.
Lets say I take a loan for gambling, but I know that I'll be able to repay it because I will get some money from a salary or from other sources and the money I take from the loan is only lets say 10% from the money I'll receive, is it a big mistake?

I don’t think loans should be taken out and used for something that’s not productive and profitable in the long run.  I’m well aware that people take loans for various reasons and not just productive ones like gambling. It’s not news anymore seeing a gambler lose money borrowed from wherever or used money budgeted for something else. Unfortunately, these sad tales do little to dissuade others from towing the same path.
The probability of having a loss is higher than a having a guaranteed win. I definitely would not use borrowed funds that has an interest on it to gamble.
288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: January 11, 2024, 03:35:17 PM
In light of these, I believe that though some would be doing it when they have that free time or at their break time, but the number will be so negligible as gambling is not the whole thing one can be doing with their lives, there are better priorities than it with so many people. To buttress my points, I have worked with some establishments (government and private), but I do not know a colleague who is gambling at work even though we talk about gambling together. It's probably the addicts who will not be able to do without their gambling platform all the time.

Yeah, you’ve worked with a lot of organizations and you haven’t seen anyone who gambles at work so even if there were people who gamble, it’s so small, it’s negligible.
You do know some people like to keep their gambling activities private. And I doubt people will feel comfortable to come clean about gambling at work or just burning time going through the site without actually playing anything. No one wants to look like a slacker in the workplace.

What are you even saying, are you canvassing for the rebellion? Come, maybe you are not working under anybody, that is why you have the liberty of this. Once you sign the papers, you are bound by it whether you are headstrong or not. If you are not comfortable, you resign. Even for moral sake, you should know that you have to be committed to what you are being paid for, or else, you get kicked out thinking you can do as you please.

What if it is your company, will you accept anyone doing anyhow?

Perhaps you misunderstood me. Obviously the employer is the boss and mainly creates the rules that would enable a professional and productive workplace. What I’m against are employers not being accountable for anything as the rules governing everyone else doesn’t apply to them.

When the rules apply to some and not to others, there is bound to be abuse which would lead to a toxic working environment. Such a working environment wouldn’t motivate employees to put in their best.
As the CEO of an organization, I know just how valuable a motivated staff is. Provide a good and safe work environment and keep them happy and satisfied. Then watch how they would willingly grow your business.
289  Economy / Reputation / Re: After 1 year? Why now and what have I done wrong? on: January 11, 2024, 02:38:03 PM

I have already sent a dm. Yet no reply. That's why I am here. I want everyone's opinion.

I sure hope you didn’t write that PM like you did this thread. The topic head along with the rest of your write up gives an entirely different impression than one merely seeking for opinions. I’m curious on why you’re looking for opinions from people on why you got tagged on what you were actually found to be guilty of. I think with the few replies on the thread, you can get a sense of what people think.

I didn’t think this thread, with how it was written would help your cause with other members. You’ve got little choice than to have patience regarding your sent PM. Hopefully, he’ll ignore this thread and still give you a listening ear.
290  Economy / Reputation / Re: After 1 year? Why now and what have I done wrong? on: January 11, 2024, 04:47:13 AM

All I wanted to know is, what did I do wrong to deserve this?

If you guys think that I deserve this after 1 year, then let me know. I will ask theymos to ban my account personally. I did nothing wrong after learning my lesson. So if this is what you think I deserve, then there's no point for me to be here. I will end my journey with you guys here.

I think this is not necessary. If you would read the comment left with the red tag on your profile, you’ll note the member who tagged you is open to revising the tag. I think if approached civilly, any reasonable person on here would respond civilly as well. I think you would have written to JG and try to talk things out first. There is clearly an opportunity for a revision so why don’t you first try, civilly of course and talk to him about it?

If the majority of people think you deserve this, your response wouldn’t be to try and change their minds but to end your journey here? That’s pathetic and quite frankly, silly.
I barely write on threads in the reputation section but I’m not lost on the happenings on the section either. Came upon your thread and just thought to let you know that you shouldn’t be rash and have your emotions running wild.

291  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit decay on: January 11, 2024, 02:59:35 AM
I've got to find out that there are some profiles that have received whole lots of merits but some of those profiles don't circulate their sendable merits to others profiles thereby allowing the sendable merits to decay and become worthless. The reason for sendable merits is for a user to send to other profiles in which they find their posts of good qualities and of Meritable standards but I wonder why some users choose to hoard this sendable merits and allowing it to vanish with time.
Is it a good habit to allow one's sendable merits to decay?

Perhaps you need to worry less about what another member does their Smerits as it’s literally theirs to do whatever they deem fit with it.
It’s common knowledge that hoarding Smerits doesn't add any benefits/perks to one’s profile so there isn’t any good motive on why one would hoard their Smerits.
I don’t think it’s cool to hoard Smerits but I also wouldn’t tell someone else what to do with their Smerits. It’s theirs to give out anyways.

There are plenty of members who are active and are quite generous with their Smerits. Perhaps you should focus more on getting some from these members.
292  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mental rehabilitation clinic. on: January 11, 2024, 02:26:14 AM
And they directly pointed it out as a sickness one endures and nothing more than that.
So yes, I would have to agree with all who do see it as a mental illness inwhich one would need to seek treatment inorder to cure themselves of this disease.

I did try but failed to see how gambling addiction can be said to be a disease but If we’re speaking figuratively, It’s all good and I can understand that.

I’m also not entirely convinced on a gambling addiction being a mental illness. Reading up on if a gambling addiction could really be said to be a mental disorder and  one form of disorder stuck out. Obsessive compulsive disorder. Perhaps, with a mental disorder like that, an individual could gradually become an addict and would have to seek treatment for his disorder.

I do think a solid majority of gamblers all over that slid down the dark hole of addiction are the cause of their own misfortune.
293  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: January 10, 2024, 11:59:18 PM
Even though I can do it, every job or industry has a different work culture. As an employee, it is important to understand and follow these norms in order to integrate well in the team and organization.
and it's better for me not to do it because it can interfere with our focus at work, but it may be different for entrepreneurs or company owners. With a lot of time and not being bound by company regulations, maybe you can do it,

I think a good number of employees secretly and perhaps, when less busy gamble at work for various reason. Probably to burn some time while seeing how lucky they could get while playing.
It’s undeniable. Gambling in the workplace could affect your work performance in the long run and it’s always advisable to focus on your work while on working hours.

I wouldn’t want to work for an employer who feel they aren’t bound by the company rules and regulations and are actively involved in the running of the business. Also, I don’t think employees would work optimally and at their best for the growth of the organization.
294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think women will make better gamblers by their nature? on: January 10, 2024, 11:43:49 PM
Women by nature are more conservative than men. They are better manager of resources and know how to prioritise things. This is what is needed for successful gambling because with it, the chances of using funds meant for basic needs in gambling will be minimised.

So do you think women will make better gamblers than men?

Your theory on women being more conservative and a better manager of resources, knowing how to prioritize things can very well be arguable. There may be surveys backing your theory but there are also surveys that says women spend more money than men as well as a slight majority of purchases done anywhere are being influenced by women.

I don’t think one could make a better gambler and have more wins just cause the person is careful and manages available resources well. Certainly, such individuals would be very responsible while gambling.
295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: January 10, 2024, 11:24:24 PM
Gambling disappoints be patient and try to understand never jump to any decision. Give priority to reality rather than emotion. Prioritize your family and career in love as well as family community and workplace. By doing this the relationship will be good and it will be easy to avoid gambling losses. Excess is not good. Stay away from excess. If you spend more money you will not be able to protect yourself if you suffer later.

Gambling disappoints(IMO, most of the times). That’s true. And something that disappoints and quite consistently too shouldn’t be prioritized.
“Give priority to reality rather than emotion”. I think you put it nicely. We should always prioritize what we want and what would help us grow and be productive as a person. Anyone giving priority to emotions is in for crisis as it would run the individual to the ground and totally wreck the person. Excess is definitely not good as at that point, there is no more satisfaction derived from that activity.
296  Economy / Economics / Re: Imagine African countries using Bitcoin to pay salaries, on: January 07, 2024, 11:59:12 PM
There’s one hurdle to cross first and that’s electing a government that is bitcoin friendly. Friendly enough to make it a legal tender in the country and go a step further to want to create an option for its civil service employees to receive their pay in bitcoin.
It would take a lot more than wishful thinking to actually make this a realization as a lot of thought process and work needs to be taken but I don’t think a new government agency is really required. In my opinion, The existing treasury department or the finance ministry in the country  could suffice and perhaps in coordination with some other relevant government agency, handle such an assignment when tasked.
297  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mental rehabilitation clinic. on: January 07, 2024, 11:40:40 PM
You can take a horse to the river bank but you can’t force it to have a drink of water. Someone not willing to recognize his problems cannot go about solving it. The patient first needs to muster enough will to get better cause he’s going to need a lot during the journey.
It really is quite necessary to find a new hobby that would help give you something else to focus on. Might as well be a productive one that could add to one’s worth.

I would expect a child to give weak arguments like “getting rich in future only if you continue gambling” and “how his luck is just around the corner” but I also wouldn’t be surprised to hear such from adults.
I’ll say.. this topic is quite interesting and engaging too. Would want to read other people’s approach to this.
298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: January 07, 2024, 10:59:08 PM
-snip-
The thing is that many people choose to go on the easy route blaming others for their actions.
LOL, only a fool would do this kind of action.

You’d be surprised at the number of “fools” we’ve got then, cause it’s a lot. There are a staggering number of people that can’t be bothered to be responsible even for their own actions and when the find out stage swings by, the literally easiest and quite stupid route is to put the blame on someone else for whatever went wrong.
There are also some who wouldn’t want to be fully responsible and would seek to lay part of the fault on someone else so they won’t have to face whatever consequences alone.
You’d really be surprised at how people think and behave out there. It’s maddening.
299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you take time to read the terms and conditions of casinos before registering? on: January 07, 2024, 10:00:07 PM
The terms and conditions of casinos and other companies is usually very lengthy and somehow boring for some people. Hence , many people rarely find time to read them. They may actually contain some of the complaints that people raise about some casinos such requiring KYC if there is need or suspicion of money laundering activities.

What is your take on this?

I don’t think a lot of people actually bother to read through to the end, the terms of service of the casino they’re wanting to play with for the very first time. Admittedly, the terms of service of a good number of casinos online more or less has the same message stating what it and isn’t allowed on the casino which when generally warns players not to try and cheat the system.
For an individual who frequently gambles with online casinos, I could see him not bothering to read through the terms of service of another casino assuming it’s like all the others.

It’s always advisable to read through and know the terms of service of the casino you’re interested in playing with cause claiming to be ignorant won’t cut it if found to be breaking a rule.
300  Economy / Economics / Re: Sometimes tips the securities at the mall or local shops on: January 07, 2024, 01:48:26 AM
It's just so weird when you enter the mall and you show him your bag after that you give him a tip.

Yes, i think it would be weird too as most people don’t make it a habit to give tips to security moments after arriving and being frisked. One might think you’re buying your way in/paying for certain privileges you shouldn’t ordinarily have.
Tipping is purely optional and if you decide to tip the security moments after arriving, it’s all good. It’s your money anyway.

I'm just saying let's do it the right way. It's even better to tip the waitresses who bring you the menus and orders and give you a good service.

Assuming I’m interested in tipping security at a venue, What then do you propose to be the right way to do so?
It could be really motivating for anyone providing you a good service and receives a commendation or a tip from you. It really doesn’t matter if it’s a waitress or the security doing a good job, if you think they’re doing a good job, let them know. People love being appreciated for their efforts more than they let on.
