It depends on your expectations. Don't expect to start with a big amount and then you can lose just everything, so better start with a smaller amount, try everything and then increase it step by step

There are a lot of such variants, but i believe that most of altcoins aren't good enough to compete with bitcoin,so any other crypto can't replace bitcoin, just only a few of them
