281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins do you like besides Ethereum? on: January 21, 2018, 06:24:58 PM
It may sound cliche but I like Bitcoin as it's still the best crypto currency we have, not only because it was the first but also because of the continues developments. SegWit was a very useful update but soon we will be getting Lightning Network to Bitcoin. This technology is going to solve the scalability problem permanently, expect all the scalability debate to be over.
282  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The future of BTC, ETH and LTC? on: January 21, 2018, 06:11:01 PM
in long term here is what i think will happen:
ethereum
due to the serious scaling issues that it has, ETH will turn into a proper centralized cryptocurrency. it currently is centralized but nobody talks about it, but eventually as the blockchain size increases to something that only a super server (like master nodes) can handle the network will be centralized. this is never good for any crypto. it will stay around but it will be surpassed by other similar projects which are not yet centralized like it.
What makes you think Ethereum is centralized? In my opinion Ethereum is not really a cryptocurrency but rather a platform where decentralized apps can be build on. Also I don't get this sentence "it currently is centralized but nobody talks about it, but eventually as the blockchain size increases to something that only a super server (like master nodes) can handle the network will be centralized" don't you mean that it's currently decentralized instead of centralized? Don't get my wrong, I'm just interested in your opinion.
283  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Selling domains for crypto purposes on: January 21, 2018, 05:13:01 PM
I don't think these domains are worth that much.
You really should have taken the offer of $3000 if real.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Bitcoin protects people from ?? on: January 20, 2018, 09:21:29 PM
Bitcoin can also be a store of value, it's digital gold. The only danger to bitcoin is an internet outage all over the world, it's the only way your Bitcoin cannot be accessed again. When there's not internet, there's no way to verify the blockchain anymore. But for the disasters you mentioned that won't be the case.

- Edit: An other scenario in which Bitcoin can't be accessed again is when all copies of the blockchain are gone, but that's highly unlikely.
285  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: paperaddress.org have just stolen my life savings on: January 20, 2018, 08:20:54 PM
You can use a pc wallet like Exodus, an android wallet like Samourai (highly recommended), or a hardware wallet (best for large amounts) https://www.ledgerwallet.com/r/bfc6 Its worth it to have a ledger wallet especially if your storing larger amounts of BTC. Think of it like opening a bank account...with a ledger its like a really super secure high tech bank with all the trimmings Wink

**edit** also order direct from ledger (see link above) people have had issues with some resellers.
Exodus isn't open-source either, I wouldn't trust them with large sums of money. Better get a hardware wallet like you mentioned or a safely offline created paper wallet.
286  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: paperaddress.org have just stolen my life savings on: January 20, 2018, 08:10:21 PM
What the heck.

That is why it is advisable to do your own research before taking action, paper wallet is good if it is only generated in Electrum because you are only in control of your privkey.

Now the only thing you can do about that is to track the bitcoin address, and try to learn where it goes and find a person behind it, but it is not an easy task as that person can just use a mixer yet if you contact every mixer to make an alert when someone send a bitcoin in their system with that address, I know it can be program with Javascript and Python, though it will only be a liabilities but can solve the problem when that person is going to be dumb and not thinking too.

Sincerely,
Not true, there are more safe ways to create a safe paper wallet. Armory is a really good one, especially if you create it on an offline machine. Also bitaddress.org which the poster probably intended to use is safe if you take the right security measures to generate the address. There are many guides here on the forum on how to create a paper wallet using bitaddress offline. For more information about legitimate wallets, take a look here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0
287  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: paperaddress.org have just stolen my life savings on: January 20, 2018, 04:57:22 PM
I generated it online like a dumb fuck! wasn't thinking!
The website doesn't seem to have their source code online, which makes it really suspicious. The only way to generate an address offline using their service would be downloading the zip from their website, this could also be easy altered to only generate addresses that they already have access to. Also I can't find anything on google about this website, only your scam accusation. This makes me think that it's really them who stole your Bitcoin, I'm sorry for your loss.

- Edit: Next time, please verify if you're using a legitimate generator. Open-source is a good sign of legitimacy, but it's still not 100% safe unless you can read code. If you would have searched for bitaddress.org you would actually find multiple threads on hear about it. Always research before storing large sums of money
288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you still buy Bitcoin? on: January 20, 2018, 04:22:42 PM
It's your own decision, nobody can look in the future to see what will happen with the price. But keep in mind to never invest more than you can afford to lose.
289  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: paperaddress.org have just stolen my life savings on: January 20, 2018, 04:14:47 PM
I haven't seen this website before so I checked to see what it looks like, but did you generate an address using there online version or did you download it and generated it offline? In case you did generate it online, are you sure that you don't have any malware on your computer?
290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The target of BTC on: January 20, 2018, 03:45:24 PM
You're right about micro-transactions using Bitcoin, for this purpose the costs are too high. But this is going to change in the near future, as more people are using SegWit which will speed the network and cause lower fees. Also Lightning Network is being developed, this can potentially increase the confirmation times to 1 million transactions a second, according to their website. But I still believe Bitcoin is not fully speculation at this moment, it got much more use cases like value storage and just transactions with higher value. It still has the decentralized aspect, banks don't have.

292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Getting paid to post at Bitcointalk ? on: January 19, 2018, 10:45:54 PM
It's called bounty signature campaings, but they don't force you to write only about their project. You can post whatever you want and thus you advertise a project by wearing their signature. And in most cases it's very profitable both for a project and for a bounty hunter.
Correct explanation but I have seen signature campaigns demanding participants to post on their ICO announcement thread, at least one timer per week. It didn't state that it has to be a positive post, that will probably make it legal on this forum.

Yes, there are campaigns that requires to post on their ANN thread, I think that is, to update (bump) their thread and make it recent or front page on topic listed. Some are requiring to post the twitter and facebook link for reporting.
If paying to bump is allowed then I can totally understand their decision. Getting the ANN thread on the front page might actually be a better way to raise awareness for a project than just signatures, depending on how much.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I buy Eth with my Bitcoin on: January 19, 2018, 10:39:54 PM
I would just hold your Bitcoins, it's actually the safest option for value storage (in crypto space). Also I was researching Ethereum before and the project seems to have some performance problems like Bitcoin. But I believe Bitcoin is in a further stage of solving this problem than Ethereum is, as the core developers already implemented SegWit to allow Lightning network transactions in the future. Ethereum is still experimenting a lot with solutions like Sharding, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution yet.
294  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Exit strategie Crypto (REST Api o.i.d.) on: January 19, 2018, 09:37:58 PM
Hi,

Rare vraag misschien. Na de dip van afgelopen week vroeg ik mij af of er mensen zijn met een exit strategie d.m.v. Scripting of iets dergelijks?

295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: *Litecoin Top???* on: January 19, 2018, 09:07:29 PM
As you know, Litecoin is the silver of crypto which is predicted can replace Bitcoin in payment. Therefore, It will rise up by my personal thought. $500 in 2018
I think you're right about Litecoin being the silver in the crypto space but why would silver replace gold? Litecoin is not much different than Bitcoin other than some characteristics. If Bitcoin would somehow fail as a payment sytem then so does Litecoin. The only reason Litecoin is much faster and cheaper as a payment system is the fact that their traffic is much lower.

298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitconnect Exit Scam - NEW on: January 17, 2018, 04:30:25 PM
Bitconnect has so much characteristics of a ponzi scheme.
I'm actually surprised that this 'crypto token' could operate for so long as so much trusted sources warned for the risks.
But I assume they could because they had the populair Youtubers promoting there pyramid scheme.
I hope that the people that were influenced by them learned there lesson, always do your own research before you invest large sums of money.

- Edit: Also look at recent Bitconnect conference where a man called 'Carlos Matos' is screaming "Bitconnecttt" and telling all sort on nonsense at the podium, it looks so suspicious. I mean why are there only people on the podium talking about how much money they made using this token, not one spreaker talked about technology or future developments.
299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China will ban BTC exhangers for good on: January 16, 2018, 02:39:24 PM
You expressly write China bans centralized exchanges, so can I conclude that decentralized exchanges are fine? In that case, this ban isn't that bad as it seems. I'm pretty sure that more decentralized exchanges will open, because the Chinese population seems to be one of the biggest participants in the crypto community.
300  Economy / Speculation / Re: Thinking about selling? Good time? on: January 16, 2018, 02:26:52 PM
Selling your coins right now is probably the worst decision you can make, unless you really need it right now. That's because Bitcoin proved multiple times in the past that it quickly recovers after a big drop. It might not be back in just one day, but expect some recovery quickly after the lowest point is reached.
