The average temperature needs to be defined by a certain methodology.  Yes, there are infinite ways of measuring the average of the Earth.  What a scientist will do is lay forth his methodology and use it to compare relative temperatures.  .....
Do meteorologists understand the weather?  ....
When you can lay down on paper the theory of the Naviar Stokes equations, I'll be happy to talk with you about weather.

In the meantime, you want a forum in which you can insult people you don't know.  That's called the Internet.

But so far you haven't shown much understanding of science.  You really are not capable of defending the issues of "a global temperature average".  Trust me on that.  It is nothing against you, it is simply that complicated a matter.  You can say "but the scientists say..." or something.

You don't use basic logic.  You start out your argument by some bullshit appeal to authority, over an argument we are not even having.

My point about weather was nothing more than an analogy to the basic thought process of you guys.  Again, you misrepresent what I say.  That alone says a ton about where you are coming from.

So why don't YOU explain to us why the basic reasoning behind greenhouse gases is not true ?  Do you think that light emitted from the sun and the radiation emitted from the matter on the Earth to be the same frequency ?  Do you think that all gases interact with all radiation the same way ?  Where does the most basic science fail?  If you are such a educated contrarian then you should at least be able to address this.  PLEASE.

I've actually believed in global warming for close to 20 years.  That is because I believe the basic underlying science behind it, even if I have not empirically taken measurements myself.

Calling people idiots and lunatic now?

Yes, that is what is required at this point.  Worst case from being wrong is we conserve fossil fuels for future generations.  However, if we wait til act until it is so obvious that even the fringe has changed their minds, then it will have been far too late.

These deniers are basically the flat-earthers of the day, except their beliefs have very very very serious repercussions.

With anything like this, you will have people who irrationally deny it.  If it is not something they can see with their own eyes or take in directly with their senses, then they will vehemently argue against it.  People need to realize this and move the discussion forward ignoring the lunatic fringe.  They will always exist.

If someone wants to have their feelings hurt because they're an idiot, then that really is not my problem.
283  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 11, 2014, 12:21:00 AM

The thing is... satellite data does not provide any proof or corelation with any computer models, computer models all "true scientists" like you use all day long to insult people who point you to that obvious bizarre situation.

I could be wrong but true scientists would find a way to explain why it is the case, don't you think?

I've never used the term true scientists.  You guys like to use scare quotes though.  Who are you quoting here ?

Again, truthfulness is CLEARLY not your motive.

I agree about correlation, but you miss the obvious.  The correlation is demonstrated by the underlying basic science and the well known fact that CO2 is a byproduct of combustion. (Other greenhouse gases are not, but are still introduced into the atmosphere via other means)

So why don't you start with the most basics of this stuff instead of discrediting things you clearly do not understand.  Once you understand this, then you will understand why the  man-made correlation is not a jump in the least.

Here is a good starting point.  http://www.npr.org/blogs/13.7/2013/12/16/251437395/global-warming-explained-in-about-a-minute

Please spare me that it is from NPR.  I'm sure you have an issue with that too...   If you want to complain about that, I can post something from another source that is not NPR.  My guess though is you will discredit anything as some sort of koolaid conspiracy.

OH ,shit, it is a scam.
He even changed the escrow address from 1Dkh4oqMmXLavHV3Xms7bCDXnkaTMDnDB4 to 1Dkh4dS6CWCD7nMCa1mvfNoqCCnrBkX7nx now

So why not give us an extra sentence or 2 and a link to the thread so people have some clue what your accusation actually is ?
285  Other / Politics & Society / Re: our USA education system sucks and is obsolete on: May 10, 2014, 11:38:11 PM

On a side note regarding "education paradigms", most of college, and much of grad school could easily be done online. I haven't gone to a single lecture after like 4 months of starting, since I can get everything online and there are better teachers out there than what most schools offer (Khan Academy etc).

But with the huge demand for country club campuses and government guaranteeing loans (even if you pursue something like art history), tuition will never stop increasing.

The problem is that online degrees can be scammed and cheating will be rampant.  Yea, they can put a webcam on you as you do the test, but even then.. come'on.  A smart lazy guy with much money will be able to work around that without a problem.

I know people who are stuck with 1 class that they need an A in to get their GPA up high enough for their degree from our best state school.  They've literally spent thousands getting friends to help them.  The problem though is that the testing is done in person, while the learning is online.  So... at least the scam is prevented, but I wish the poor feller could just get his degree.

Society as a whole has come to realize that so many beggars have substance abuse problems and that the donations will not go to food, which is either very cheap or free.  I am not sure that people are any more heartless than they were before, but they definitely are more aware.

Give a man a bitcoin and you feed him for a month; teach a man to mine and you feed him for a lifetime.
287  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Intelligence employees, current and past, barred from citing news leaks on: May 10, 2014, 11:23:42 PM

It is my understanding that NSA employees are prohibited from even reading about such things.  I am not sure if that is supposed to hold true for their off the clock time or not.
288  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is China silently conquering Africa? on: May 10, 2014, 11:21:03 PM

China gets what it wants by infinite bribing and a large state to back it up.  Smaller capitalist companies find it very hard to compete with this.  China has a benevolent dictatorship which acts unilaterally.  The US is pretty much the complete opposite.

The quality of life in these 2 countries is going to start really evening out in the coming decades.

The average temperature needs to be defined by a certain methodology.  Yes, there are infinite ways of measuring the average of the Earth.  What a scientist will do is lay forth his methodology and use it to compare relative temperatures.

Not sure why anyone but an idiot or a lunatic would take from that belief that I personally should know the current average temperature of the atmosphere.

I like how you guys continue to try to misrepresent my arguments.

When you're a bunch of marginalized lunatics, what else are you going to do, but murmur bs to yourselves to avoid the obvious that you're all quite wrong.

BTW I haven't had an iphone since the first generation iphones.  Not an Apple fan.   (since you guys care so much)

... For anyone reading this, let me give you a good analogy...

Do meteorologists understand the weather?  A certain group of people would say meteorologists don't because they're so often wrong.  Others would understand that although meteorologists do understand weather better than just about everyone else, it doesn't mean meteorologists can perfectly simulate the weather and the billions of factors that go into play.  Yet, go somewhere with enough dumbasses and 100% you'll be able to find someone who will pontificate how the weathermen don't know anything.  Same basic thing going on here.

When it comes to logos and branding, simpler is better as it makes it more memorable.

Yes.  I like the spaceballs helmet logo, but the E looks far too much like a C.  The acronym taken by itself will have a lot of people  not even see NEM, they will see NCM.  Thats not good.  Stylistic flares to logos is great until it makes the logo fail the basic readability test.
291  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Gridseeds + P2Pool node setup on: May 10, 2014, 08:04:31 PM

p2pool is a great idea but the implementation is questionable at times.  I think some of the more mature coins have better p2pool software but my experience says it is hit or miss.  So once you get it setup, you're going to have the same or different issues when you switch coins.  You'd be much better off spending your time researching the best and most trustworthy pool.
292  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 10, 2014, 07:45:11 PM

The lunatics win the battle by sheer persistence of ignorance, but they've already lost the war.

It is nice to know that calculating an average is an intractable problem.   <eyeroll>

First year engineering physics will also give you enough to understand the basic underlying principle of global warming, but you guys don't really want to hear that.
293  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 10, 2014, 07:26:29 PM

I haven't seen anyone actually arguing global average temperature is to be used in modeling the atmosphere.

Nice attempt at completely misrepresenting arguments.

Are you guys paid to be evil ignorant ?
294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mastercard hired 5 lobbyists to slam bitcoin in US Congress on: May 10, 2014, 05:46:11 PM

Frankly, I am surprised this didn't happen a year or more ago.  Perhaps the MC executives thought "beanie babies".  I would not be surprised.

Also - The use of Mastercard and Visa as a weapon against Putin shows the problem with centralization.  Now MC and Visa are going to take huge hits over it.  Not that I particularly care as I find credit systems like these to be leeches upon society.
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Transcript of Chat Between Sunny King (Peercoin) & Daniel Larimer (Bitshares) on: May 10, 2014, 05:09:59 PM

The "IPO" is still going AFAIK.  It is called Angelshares and is done in the form of donations.  There is a social contract that users of the Bitshares Toolkit will honor by paying shares from their DACs to the donators.
296  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 10, 2014, 04:30:48 PM

I may have misused black swan slightly, but it fits close and was easy to type. Explaining things in depth to a lunatic not interested in the truth brings about a need for brevity.

You prepare for things that are likely to happen.  The smaller the chance, the less you prepare.  I don't think Taleb would disagree with that.  Nor would any rational person.

That is why it is important to realize it is man made - because it happening and not some miniscule chance of happening like the other silliness listed.

Ice ages happen every 1-10k years from what I read.  Global warming has been happening on a scale of 100 years and we're just now getting to the point where things are going to continue to be changing.  Bringing in ice-ages just dilutes the issue.  There is a magnitude of order difference in time frames easily, and they're still measure in 100s of generations, not 5.  Lets bring it up though to cloud the issue.

We would survive EMP easily.  Not even relevant.

I like how the one metric that everyone could see as being a useful metric is invalid because it clearly shows the lunacy of your average denier.  Oh average temperatures ?  Hogwash!  Scientifically impossible to measure with any accuracy !  Thermometers ?  Thats old technology!  Not relevant here because the world is not the same in every place !

(Duh, thats why it is an average)

Please, please, ignore the raving lunatic in the corner.  Much like I should.  Reddit did the right thing.  A stupid man with a little bit of education can be a dangerous thing..... and in the end... they're still wrong.
297  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 10, 2014, 08:26:43 AM
Personally I think we should be worried about EMP pulses from solar flares or terrorist attacks, meteor impacts, and global cooling.  We're overdue for an ice age, you know.
A big EMP would be very bad.
The other threats are unlikely.
We will probably skip the next ice age cycle if the CO2 level continues to rise.

The timeframe of ice ages is probably near pointless when considering humanity.  If you want to go this route, then compare the rate of warming vs historic trends.  Just not some simple faith based bullshit.  "Well we had ice ages in the past, so it is just a matter of time".   Go to a casino and see how the losers think their luck is due to turn around.  It is called faith.

He lists a lot of black swan events versus something that is currently happening.

He claims you can't measure the average temperature because there are "multiple phases of matter".  Such bullshit heaped in mounds of ignorance.  (Latent heat??? what?  What is "latent heat" and what would it have to do with incorrectly measuring of the atmospheric temperature being hotter than it is ?)

He denies that there is relevance to the cause of the warming.  (What???  Lets ignore mitigation?)

Why would anyone respond to such stupidity ?

This is exactly the same as if someone argues the Earth is flat.  You might smile and nod in person, but you're going to clown on them behind their back.
298  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 10, 2014, 12:15:20 AM

Frankly, I don't think you know what you are talking about, either on droughts, global warming or religion.  You seem to think that anecdotal evidence (droughts) have greater attribution, but show no evidence and of course cannot.  You are against deniers, but I wager you can't even define what a denier is.  And then you rant on religion and faith.  Then you suggest something that's quite astonishing, "faith in science."

Well I'd like to see a clear, concise definition of denier.

We'll deal with the absolute lack of a need for faith in science later.

Frankly, you should look at context.  I was responding to anecdotal evidence with more anecdotal evidence.  Nothing more.

The fact that you don't see this, and use it as a reason to discredit me shows your overwhelming biases.  You fall into one of the categories that, frankly, are not worth having a discussion with.  You have just demonstrated you are not interested in truth.

Denier would be someone that denies that the Earth is warming up (using average global temperatures) due to man made reasons.

Really, is it that hard to go study the radiation and how different gasses absorb it ?  Convince yourself.  I don't think you guys even try to understand the basic principles behind it but oh damn you're experts.

No more responses from me.  Reddit has it right.  Disregard to babbling loonies in the corner and lets get on with progress if we are to have any hope.

I would have not brought religion up, but religion is a place where a lot of people go for morality and ethics.  Churches are ignoring global warming, so people continue on shitting on the future of their kids.
299  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 09, 2014, 10:37:03 PM

So you are saying shutting people who do not believe what you believe is bad then?

Not sure what you are trying to say, but the answer is probably in between something.

I'm all for arguing etc, but there becomes a point in time when you figure out who you are arguing with has motives that are not purely for the purpose of seeking the truth.  That or they are arguments coming from people who will not abide by the same basic rules of logic that I do and expect.

We do not need to debate that the world is round and not flat anymore.  If someone persists with that silliness I am all for kicking them out of a forum because it serves no point.

There are distinctions in life.
300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: May 09, 2014, 09:21:29 PM

I think we should not debate the various variations of nem and just use Nem for everything.

For example -

I nemed up to nem my nems on this neming.  Nemmed into Nemcointalk to nem if i nemmed any new nemages.

If you nem nem with nem then who the nem are nem ?  Nem it ?
