281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese getting into Bitcoin? on: August 26, 2012, 03:32:16 PM
I just spent my evening presenting Bitcoin to about 50 more Japanese business people in Sapporo. (A city in the northern most island)
I also installed the Blockchain and Bitcoinspinner apps on all their smart phones and gave each of them their first 0.05 bitcoin.
I'm sure the majority of them will be buying their own bitcoin soon.
I am also sure that because of the efforts I am involved with in Japan, the Japanese have bought more than 25,000,000 JPY (~$317,000 USD) worth of bitcoins in the last few weeks and that it is just the beginning.
Unfortunately I currently can't provide the exact details as to how I know the exact amount, but I am sure this is just a small fraction of what is to come.

For a limited amount of time and businesspeople, 300,000 USD is a sizable amount to invest. Might speculation be one of their interests?

This is nonsense.

People should think a lot harder before posting private information.

This is not private information. Pirate posted that Dropbox link on a public forum. The individual in question maintains a blog about himself. I do not see how simply reproducing that material might offend privacy as you appear to imply. As always on the internet, you are the sole responsible for what you put on the web; the web doesn't force you.

OMG PIRATE THEMED POST BY A GUY WITH A SIMILAR NAME TO SOMEONE THAT SHARED A LINK TO A DROPBOX THAT MAY BE PIRATES, MUST BE PIRATE RIGHT?

We can have it cross-checked by 4chan, if you like...

Shitstorm incoming.
286  Economy / Economics / BFL and Capacity Utilization: Jalapenos to Jump in Price? on: August 26, 2012, 01:50:14 PM
Has anyone considered capacity utilization theory for Butterfly Labs's Jalapeno?
(capacity utilization explained here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXrPdFn7Gn4)

It's pretty straightforward.

1. As far as I know BFL is not a "major" company in terms of employee numbers and capitalization (thus high absolute demand is harder to satisfy).
2. From what I've seen there is a consensus that they now have more than 2500 orders for Jalapenos.

We have all seen the delivery dates; 4-6 weeks, October, November, 2013... clearly BFL cannot keep up with the demand. Demand for Jalapenos is skyrocketing, supply is low. This is how inflation comes about; in the short-term a company cannot (or will not) expand production capacity and thus opts for the profitable alternative: upping the price Shocked

Thus is it reasonable to assume the price of Jalapenos is susceptible to a rise in the near future? If so, how much? If not, why?

Maybe it's just because this video conference?  Shocked
twitter ‏@rogerkver
I just presented Bitcoin to over 150 business people in Japan via skype for over an hour.

If that's the reason then it really shows how powerful these simple meetups and proselytizing can be.
The same thing happened in China a few weeks ago and it seems to have made a big difference.
50% (arbitrary guess) of people who hear about bitcoin will understand the potential straight away.

I wanted to point to this post discussing Roger Ver; he has now claimed on Twitter that he is the direct source of the recent volume in mtgoxJPY and that the Japanese have over the past months bought 250K USD in Bitcoins (how he gets to that number is unclear).

... The New York Times helped make the war in Afghanistan happen. This is not of that magnitude, but the point is, it's not because some major source covers a story that it's necessarily true.

Actually after reading up on Gesell I do agree with his views on the economic nature of man but I don't get the "no interest and rent charges" thing.

The hell is hemp-scrip?

It sounds like something you would buy on silk road.

LOL - not quite. Just a reference to Silvio Gesell. See also Irving Fisher's "Stamp Script".

297  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Isn't this whole bitcoin thing just a big scammers party? on: August 24, 2012, 01:37:53 PM
Lol, I've wondered the same thing I must admit, or at least, should I say I have wondered if Bitcoin itself is the product of a MAJOR international scam, create a currency thats cool - wait for it to get big - "we'll have that thank you very much".... The bad people of the world could of created it, drug cartels, hackers, NWO, Govn, CIA etc, however its out there now - what happens with it could be out of there control.

However, I'd like to believe that the whole crytocurrency thing "could" be the start of something awesome to happen to mankind (for once).

And for that, I'm willing to give it attention and hope for the best.

Lol I can kind of go with that, especially with the "anonymous" creator of Bitcoin who won't step into the spotlight...

Well hello there sexy peoplez,

I work for the FED and am here to find a way to print bitcoins (3D printing) and inflate whatever I can find!

Just kidding, this place has a lot of future and I want to be part of it.

Cheers
