281  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin national radio campaign starting this week! on: May 05, 2011, 04:04:45 AM
http://www.freetalklive.com/content/podcast_2011_05_03

The commercial starts at 1:02:53

And then it sparked a discussion of bitcoins for the next half hour on the show!

I imagine as long as the paid commercial runs on the show we will get lots of free advertising by the hosts and callers discussing it.

Someone please help make a 30 second recorded commercial to run as well.
I will start it running as soon as we have it.

I was one of those callers.
Welcome to the community! Smiley

not to be used for for-profit.

Irony.

Heh, do what you want though. Tongue

I don't mean to bump my own thread for no reason, but I wanted to say that I've got a repository started on GitHub. It will be experiencing a large amount of activity, much of it superfluous at the moment, and it is nowhere near functioning, but thought you might want to know.

Haha, it was a nice little job. (Thanks cuddlefish & Ubitex.)

would you be interested in creating elgg plugins?
Possibly. What kind of plugins? I have no experience with Elgg, but would be willing to check it out.

I'm thinking of a texas holdem with bitcoin plugin, I have no bitcoins though so it's a pipe dream lol

Heh, I might take a look at it when I finish with the other project.
286  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTS] Work or... on: May 04, 2011, 09:42:43 PM
Whatever you like, though I am a fan of open source projects, so hosting the code somewhere for other people to use would be great.

If it's done well, I'll tip well too - so don't hold back Wink

And I was thinking the site owner (this is specifically for a small webpage I want hosted), but if there was a good way to do it where anyone could proxy buy that would be pretty sweet.
Perhaps I'll provide both ways. Smiley

I'm starting this project now.
287  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTB] 2-3 paragraphs explaining Ubitex (15 BTC) on: May 04, 2011, 09:41:25 PM
I've edited mine a few times, please check before responding to it.

EDIT - If you haven't already chosen SgtSpike's.

You've got it a bit backwards. Buyers of Bitcoins pick from sellers of Bitcoins. Other than that, quite good.
Edited.

289  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [WTB] 2-3 paragraphs explaining Ubitex (15 BTC) on: May 04, 2011, 09:30:18 PM
What is Ubitex?

Ubitex is a new way to trade your hard-earned bitcoins for USD or vice-versa! Instead of using methods like PayPal, which could end in chargebacks and loss of money, Ubitex makes it easy for you to meet someone in person, and do the transaction in real life. This also insures that the user buying the bitcoins actually receives them when they pay.

If you're buying bitcoins, all you have to do is enter your zip code, and Ubitex will show you users looking to sell near you. Choose a seller and a private conversation begins between the two of you, without your information being released to either party by Ubitex. It's both safe and secure. If you're looking to sell bitcoins, Ubitex will take down your information, and list you under buyers until you have sold your bitcoins.

It's as simple as that.

This is a kind of thing that might go on Ubitex's website, not sure if that's what you're looking for.

A generic bitcoin order form would be nice Smiley

IE someone goes to the site, inputs what they want bought as a proxy sale, a link to where to buy it, and how much it is including shipping. The site spits a bitcoin address back at them and checks for a certain # of confirmations, once confirmed and at the right value, an email is sent to the buyer and the site owner/seller.

The backend of the site could have some info dumps for the owner, such as total btc in, total expended, customizable exchange rates and such.
I'm a little confused as to exactly what this does. Would the buyer or the seller create the Bitcoin address?

Is this an escrow service like ClearCoin or a Merchant gateway like MyBitcoin.

The seller would create the address for the buyer to pay for the proxy purchase item based on the price the buyer puts in. So it would be a simplified order form for people who are willing to proxy sell things.
Oh! I understand! So this would be for proxy buying between Bitcoins and USD, or other fiat currencies?

Would the site owner proxy buy it, or would other users on the site?

Seems simple enough, and like a fun project. Do you want this open-sourced or just as a project that's usable (or both)?

Hello,

EDIT: I could also do some English writing, as it's also an enjoyable experience for me. I'm interested in mostly tech-related things. If you want me to write, let me know, and of course you would pay after you decide you like what I've written.

I'm lulzplzkthx, a web developer who has too much time on his hands.

I'm either selling work with PHP and MySQL (my best languages), and some AJAX and JS sexiness (primarily using jQuery, but I can use another framework if you'd like.)

Whatever I'm developing it would be very cool if it supported Bitcoin, or at least related to Bitcoin in some way...

Now, the "or" in my topic title is: Or you can give me an idea, and if I like it, I'll spend some time developing it, and either release it as a web application, or open source it.

For examples, you can check out my Bitcoin address "shortener", my LGPL'd Bitcoin lottery script, or my other projects located on my webpage. (For example, my PHP IRC bot is "neat": ZuzuBot, even though it isn't really a good use of PHP, heh.)

Post here, or send me a private message (warning: I might not notice PMs right away,) or find me in IRC as "lulzplzkthx".

You might want to put a deposit on it so that somebody doesn't keep it after that 30 day period, or change the password.

Has someone pledged to work at 800 BTC?
296  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin "Shortener" on: May 04, 2011, 01:55:26 AM
Heres my easy to read donation address  Cheesy

Heh. I love QR codes, but for me it's quicker to write down a six character code and append it to an easy URL address later. (Or even just remember those six letters.)
297  Economy / Marketplace / Bitcoin "Shortener" on: May 04, 2011, 01:34:34 AM
Shortener is in quotes because as of right now, it's not so short... more user-friendly.

The current MAIN REASON for it is that this is EASIER TO REMEMBER.

The idea is to become a service somewhat like bit.ly or tinyurl.com but for Bitcoin addresses. As of right now it simply converts to an address, but as soon as URI support is added into the Bitcoin client, it will redirect to one (and you will be given options when creating an address such as amount in Bitcoins to send.)

The idea is up and working, but the domain isn't short. If you'd like to donate, just donate to https://lulzplzkthx.com/s/lulzyk, and if I get enough donations, I should be able to buy a shorter domain, which would be very nice.

Check it out here: https://lulzplzkthx.com/s/.

Also, if you have any ideas for features, etc. please let me know. For example, I'm considering allowing custom IDs.
298  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SpiderOak 1 GB referral offer (still 1 slot available) on: May 03, 2011, 08:11:25 PM
Interestingly enough, using the "worldbackupday" code not only gives you an extra 5 GB, but makes you seen as a "paid user", and thus your referral limit is 20 GB, instead of 3 GB. Feel free to continue to use my code. Wink
299  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PULL] remove GUI 'Generate Coins' option on: May 03, 2011, 06:01:01 PM
Please remove it. The built-in generator is worthless now anyway.
300  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitMarket.eu DDoS attacked as well on: May 03, 2011, 05:41:51 PM
I was having trouble visiting the Bitcoin wiki yesterday due to "too many MySQL conections" (bitcoin.it)

So, shall we start a comprehensive list of what's been DDoS'd?
  • BitMarket.eu
  • MtGox.com
  • Bitcoin.org
  • Bitcoin.it

It appears MtGox.com is still under attack: "too many connections".
Bitcoin.it is running slowly, but not giving me the "too many connections" error from yesterday.
