281  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 19, 2014, 05:07:56 PM
Well it would seem that a restart on BFGminer has fixed the problem, but I've never had to do that before...

Hmmm... My big issue with revenue decline comes from the fact we aren't solving any blocks. I haven't done any digging, but some posts have said other pools are slow too...

If the entire network is actually slow that means perhaps the last difficulty adjustment was too aggressive. From what I understand, difficulty (technically) can move up or down, whatever it takes, with the end goal being that the next 2016 blocks take 2 weeks to mine. Not saying the last difficulty increase was flawed or too aggressive, but if this is a network-wide issue we should expect to see it reflected somehow in the next difficulty calculation.

I'm not sure what you consider a slowdown, according to http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty blocks are being found every 8.4 minutes. that is faster than the every 10 minutes that it is supposed to be. I've been on Slush since May '13. Slush used to be roughly 10% of the world's hashrate. Now, it is less than 5% so it should take longer to find blocks. as your hashrate goes down the Variance goes up. this means that we will see more very long blocks and very short blocks..

Pool luck was 34% earlier. Then after the 5:37 block it was 37%. Now, 6 hours into the next block, the luck says 46%? I'd like to know how that works

Luck is calculated on the last found block and the previous found blocks. The current block being worked on can't be included because it hasn't been found yet.

since GPU mining for scrypt coins isn't bitcoin, aren't posts here about it in the wrong place? shouldn't they be posted in the altcoins section? So of course GPU mining is looked down on. it is either unprofitable or being talked about in the wrong place. (Bitcoin Snob here)
284  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone used Lego to support their rig? on: January 17, 2014, 08:28:09 PM
I built a LEGO box for two ASICminer Blades (old style). Nice thing about LEGOs is that you can build 80mm computer fans right into the walls and roof. Bad thing was that i bought the LEGOs, and even on eBay, ended up spending much more that an professionally built case would have cost. But is was fun building the case.  Smiley
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Woah, block solved in 20 seconds by Slush's pool. on: January 17, 2014, 08:08:42 PM
20 seconds? I've seen blocks a few seconds apart in the past.

Every block gets solved in 20 seconds.  Think I am wrong?  You don't understand math.

For each block, go to a moment in time 20 seconds prior to its solution.  At that moment, the network has accomplished zero progress on the impending solution.  However, in the coming 20 seconds - it finds a solution.

A solution doesn't get easier as time passes doesn't depend upon.  The network doesn't advance and close in on a solution as the clock ticks.

The same error in statistics is made for those people who think that 10 rolls of a die without getting a '6' increases the chance that a '6' will come next.  It doesn't.  The chance of rolling a '6' is the same whether or not 10 non-'6's occurred previously.

The state of the miners 20 seconds prior to a solution is identical to the state of miners which have been working for one hour.  Thus, the probability that a solution will come in 20 seconds is identical for the case where a solution was just found, and for when the miners have been working a long time.  Miners having been working a long time do not increase the probability that a solution will come in the next 20 seconds.  Thus, every block was solved in 20 seconds - it is just 20 seconds prior to the moment the solution came.

Idiots - find it incredible that a block was solved in 20 seconds - they all are.

Huh?

I understand that there is no progress on the proof of work...

That doesn't change the fact that sometimes there is 1 minute between blocks and sometimes there is 1 hour between blocks...

We weren't talking about how long it took the device to find the solution which happened to be the correct one for the next block. We were talking about the length of time between blocks.

Apparently self professed non-idiots can have difficulty with understanding as well. Tongue

287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who gets my transaction fee ? on: January 15, 2014, 08:37:37 PM
Who gets my transaction fee ? The miner/mining pool who included my transaction in a block he/she/they mined ?

Yup

Does not the miner gets 25 BTC again for finding each block or these transaction fees actually sum up to that 25 BTC ?

A solo miner or pool gets 25BTC plus transaction fees. some pools, but not all, pass the transaction fees on to the miners in the pool.

Once again I've proven that they shouldn't let this Software guy play with hardware. I plugged in an H board backwards and got smoke.  Cry One of these days I'll learn.  Undecided

I don't know why anyone responds to Cyper, that is all he wants. I have him on ignore.
291  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens if a Block can't be found? on: January 13, 2014, 10:05:59 PM
No, not possible, given what we know about the properties of SHA256 hashing.

thank you for responding Gavin.

We will set the miner to a 192.168.1.X IP.

Would it be possible to get 192.168.0.X on request? not all routers are the same. Wink

who pays the expenses of a zero fee pool, and why? Nothing is free, where is the money coming from? Huh
294  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 13, 2014, 09:42:30 PM
Yes, it is true it is quite different. Was just a hopeful idea. There are few pools that offer XPM, all of which I feel do not have enough transparency.  Also are you needing any guinea pigs for the Scrypt Guild?

Guinea pigs will be hand chosen (AKA:  mass invited) in IRC once it is ready.  I'm going to avoid giving any dates until it's closer though, after the hangups that I hit on the main backend over the weekend (most of which have been resolved).

just out of curiosity, what language are you coding in? I won't ask why because that is a personal choice.
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork The Blockchain And Block The Seized FBI Coins. on: January 13, 2014, 09:05:55 PM
Doing as the OP suggests would totally undermine and be the death of Bitcoin. Everyone would wonder "could i be next?". But then maybe killing BTC was the OP's hidden agenda.
296  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Weekly pool and network statistics on: January 13, 2014, 07:42:15 PM
The lack of growth in Slush's pool saddens me. I hate seeing it shrink like this. I think most of the problem is that people can't wrap their head around it's distribution system(who gets how much of the reward). They are always second guessing it, incorrectly. How it works is addressed weekly in it's support thread. Sad...  Cry
297  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 13, 2014, 04:10:16 AM
Merged mining, as you mentioned earlier, many of us just send our altcoins to BTC-e. Do you know if we need a separate address for each type of coin sent there? or can we use the same address for all of them? I assume that all these can be sold there? Since they aren't being made yet, no rush on an answer. Thanks man, you ROCK!!! Cool
298  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Weekly pool and network statistics on: January 13, 2014, 02:02:18 AM
I'm not sure why, but i always look forward to these posts. Cheesy
299  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens if a Block can't be found? on: January 12, 2014, 08:50:40 PM
As the number of leading zeroes goes up, the number of possible solutions goes down. As an extreme, look at one digit with all leading zeroes. there are what, 10 possible solutions? since, for any given input there is one unique output. If the parts of the input that are constant for all possible inputs all fall outside those 10, you are screwed. of course if the difficulty was that high, there would most likely be other problems as well.
300  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 12, 2014, 07:08:39 PM
But now fixed... strange...

Shortly after a block is found, or maybe it was just after the processing ends, i forget which. "none" will show up for a short period of time. If you happen to catch it right, you will see it. It usually goes away quickly. Just be patient.
