2801  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HELP! Total Newbie was told I needed to accept Bitcoin for charity on: January 15, 2016, 02:53:38 AM
The easiest way would be to simply post a donation address and its qr code on the website.

It looks like OP is trying to scam in the name of charity Sad Utterly disgusting.
He will probably reply posting his Bitcoin address and adding a sob story,
Watch.

Sorry for any confusion - I came here to ask for help, not money.
And as I have an organization specializing in reproductive rights - it is probably safe to assume I am female.

You don't have to do much a QR code or write out address to donate.  That is it as far as website so a photo uploaded or wirting on website could do it.

Just make sure to keep it in a wallet that is safe.  In all honesty I'm not sure how much offering BTC donations is going to help. If you are a true 501c3 most will want to pay via check to make tax deductions easy.   I don't see Bitcoin expanding your charity much.

Unless he could get a direct payment from Coinbase. Then he would be able to withdraw it quickly and easily, and, If he were to use mobile authentication, then there is less chance of hacking.

I'm not referring to them having a problem I think donators are ones it is harder for.  I have not tired to donate BTC and claim a tax deduction for it on a 501c3.   I personally like donations in check or some form I have for if I ever get audited (hopefully never) but if I do it's easy to show donations.

I just am not sure on reporting a BTC donation 501c3.   They might give reciept or something with dollar value making it possible.  But they really need to go to lawyer and accountant to see proper way to handle BTC donations and how best to be able to be a tax deduction.

I was part of a computer club that got 501C3 and I can tell you it is a pain just to get.  But I think you will get charged some consulting fees to see how to handle these donations.   So I really don't think you should go for it unless you have some big donators pushing for it.
2802  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to earn Bitcoins? on: January 15, 2016, 02:47:50 AM
Gamble or Invest IMO  Cheesy

I corrected it for you don't gamble it away.  Even if you hold it long term on a little you will be happier then gambling it away you will lose long term gambling it is a fact.

I personally work to hard for BTC to go gamble it away.  I think most fit in that category to.
2803  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Failed Firmware Update on: January 15, 2016, 02:45:04 AM
Hi All

Just to finish this thread off, none of the repairs worked and Bitmain are claiming that I am beyond the 90 days warranty (which I am not). They then sent me a link to buying a new controller board from their shop and it all makes sense. As far as I am concerned Bitmain are sending out dodgy firmware and ignoring their 90day warranty so they can get people to buy more controller boards from them... will not be buying from them again.

When was miner shipped and received? They should live up to 90 day's assuming you bought from them and not reseller or bought off someone else, the warranty does not transfer.

How much is the controller for S7 from them?  I'm thinking S3 was like 35 plus shipping or somewhere around there but that has been a long while back.
2804  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Replacing the Fan on an S5 on: January 15, 2016, 02:40:54 AM
I'm definitely plugging it into fan1. Maybe there is something wrong with my fan?

Some 4 wire fans are not compatible. Do a search you'll find a post talking about it.

You could make it easy and just order direct from bitmain - https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160105104607947aoAkWsJK06D0

They are now selling fan's direct.  So no real guess work, as you can get one made for your model.
2805  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why no bitcoin mining farms in Sahara? on: January 15, 2016, 02:38:45 AM
Other problems are minor if people really want it. The only major problem will be the higher maintenance cost in cooling the miners.
Sahara could really be a powerhouse of renewable energy but is not a suitable place for mining farms.
We can see large mining farms in cooler part of the world like China, Russia, north Europe.

This threadd is one that at least got a smile when I read it.  The anwser is in the post title.  It's missing the "desert" part.  Yes night might be cold but day you are fighting being in a desert.

There are far better places to build at with cheap electricity and not in a desert.  This is one of the last locations I would look at for hosting.
2806  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 15, 2016, 02:34:06 AM
what is that a picture for ants? I can't see that.

the picture is for antminer u3. it's make me confused.

He was joking on ant's.  But your image is far to small to see anything.  Pull it up and it is tiny... unreadable.

Try uploading to different site or something as that will not help.  Below is size you have it at...

He's just trying to see how much quicker the B8 shipped compare to the B9 to see if it was worth the premium difference.

For mos B9 will be better at the cheaper price as some have already reported getting B9's and are lucky.   The ones who are not so lucky could be twords the Feb 5th date with 10 day's range, then the 5 after before it's considered late.

I think most will go B9 at this point.  But I could be wrong.

Ahhhh, I see.  This will be a good evaluation.  I just made an order today for B9s; proving your point of "most will go B9s".

Yep it's just getting so close between the two it's hard to justify the extra.  With saving money I think most will go B9, and in next 5-6 day's B8 should be down.  And there B9 will current.

It's there I will find something interesting.  I want to see if they do a 10 for a month off or what batch 10 will look like.
2808  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is this math right? on: January 15, 2016, 01:01:46 AM
Don't listen the liars above, they're just trying to keep the profits to themselves!!!

Go ahead and start mining, live like a king! I got into mining in 2012 and now I've got a Ferrari, a Tesla, and I live in a mansion, all thanks to bitcoin mining! Anyone with a half brain should buy mining gear and start minting money right away. Do Not Wait!!

LOL  But I look back on my bitcoin interests and when I started I managed to _buy_ a bitcoin by going to Walmart and getting a money transfer or something, back when even with the fees the bitcoin cost me like $27 and it wasn't long before I sold a single bitcoin and bought a 3 foot Samsung Smart TV.  Loving it I bought a ztex that was way over priced, then thumb asics, and then a Mercury - I was riding  high and added another card to the Merc.  I had been completely duped by MtGox as safe and lost maybe half my bitcoins.  Then S3's, S3+'s, C1's and an S5.  But I never really knew my true electric costs and was busily caught up in keeping them running.  Then I did the math and discovered my electric utility had different rates for winter and summer and found I was running at a loss.  I had always kept my winter heating bills low, turning off the heat when I'd be out and dropping it way down at night, never mind the long underware throughout winter months.  A thing that is when heating with bitcoin miners, one really doesn't want to shut them down and light them up every time one goes shopping so some are running at a loss when it isn't smart.  And the 113 difficulty - and Eligius having a round time of 59 hours right now and the last was 2 days at least, things are tough.  But I love the TV.

Oh, forgot I prepaid for a jalapeno then waited and waited and waited and when it arrived its hashrate was just a little inside the low hashrate return product acceptance - like they begrudged sending out products to those who prepaid and sent the better to friends and new buyers at a huge markup - and at that point when the Jalapeno arrived it was just about at break even.

I would like to see numbers but I don't think most broke even with Jalepeno's.  But that is the nature of some companies luckily seems less are doing releases like that at this point, sad part of that is there are less gear being released compared to then.

Most that bought Jalepeno's if they would have held coins had a huge difference between what they made off Jalepeno and what they would have had just holding.  I never invest on just prototypes anymore.  Terrahash was the company that about got me.
2809  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Jan 13 to Jan 27 picks are closed. on: January 15, 2016, 12:57:55 AM
Ok today is over and we finished the day at -9%

Looking good so far.

That is a pretty amazing number I wish that it would last.  Would love a week with low or negative would be even better but I wont hold my breath.

Price is in the high 420's.  So dropped from low 430's.  So BTC is going opposite direction as we want it to.

Can someone take a closeup pic of the new fangled power circuit area with that big inductor? If you can also list the IC part numbers... that would be appreciated.

Someone did above but the reason you will not find many is it actually voids warranty.  On mine there were little stickers to show if miner was opened and boards could be pulled out.

They did not look super tamper resistant so someone might be able to put it back together without anyone knowing.  But this is reason I think you are not seeing many post this.
2812  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s3 on: January 14, 2016, 10:25:31 PM
Thanks for the info guys, just got a couple S3's because the owner upgraded.  I think If I were to set them up at the business and let them use that electricity, I should be OK (tax write off).

Now onto the power supply?  Each needs four pci-e psu inputs?  And each consumes 340W?  So I'll need a PSU with 8 PCI-E outputs and be rated for at least 700W?

Does anyone have any recommendations?  Looking for something I can set up and just leave it do its thing.

Also what info can you guys give on pools?

Thanks!!!!

betteer to have more margin with a psu, if you consume 700, don't buy a 700w psu, but buy somethign bigger like 850 or even 1k

it's not good to stress the psu especially for a 24/7 work

The PSU has highest efficiency when the power output is with 50-80%. So you can save electricity by buying a big power supply.

Normally that will cost more though to get that.  So you need to see how much you save vs what your spending.  Also 220/240 compared to 110/120 will save some.

So there are lot's of options just depends on what is worthwhile depending on person's situation.

Hello everyone.

I am new to the forums. I plan on spending some time here. Seems like a cool place.

I'm hoping you can help me... see my post here for photos and details:

I appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks!!!

your electrician is wrong. (well a little bit)

"Not wanting my miners to catch on fire or spontaneosly combust (whee!), I decided to ask my electrician if that power cable would work. His response was "no, the cable needs to be 12/3 20amp 250v". So... first off I have no idea what the 12/3 part of this means, but I believe the problem is that the suggested cable is 15v while the breaker is 20v. Is that the reason this cable wont work?"

14/3 vs 12/3 wire   the 14 is skinner then the 12  the 3 is how many wires in the cord

the cable you have asked about in your blog is 14/3 15amp 250volt  it can  provide

240 volts x 15 amps = 3600 watts    so it can run 1 psu with ease. as that psu only draws  1600 watts.

your issues can be fixed a few ways.

but I need a lot more info to help.

lets go slow

 1) first off you should have asked us  before you installed with a pro as you may have did a bad setup.

2)  you show us 1 breaker  that is 20 amp for 240 volts or   about 4800 watts.  that is 3 psus' max  3 s-7's max

3)  so  how many 240 breakers are put in?

4)  you mention multiple 240 outlets how many are there  and if there are 2 are the 2 controlled by the one breaker?

5) if you have 3    240 outlets all to the one breaker  you could run 3 s-7 's and 3 psu's with 3 of  the  power cables  you linked us to.

One thing to the electrician might be trying to drum up business.  I still remember when I got a little over 1k quote for 1 240 breaker to be put in and 10 foot of cable or so running on outside of wall.   It was less then a 10th of it to do it with a family member.

And they were a good company in past they did air-condition repair for me.   The electrical side though they were just insane on.  Part of which I still wonder was the electrician seeing my mining gear that it had an effect on him.
2815  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: PONDOOLIES-TECH SP35 YUKON - 5.5TH/s on: January 14, 2016, 08:59:43 PM
Hey!

I would need help when I'm looking to buy a PONDOOLIES-TECH SP35 YUKON - 5.5TH / s.

How much noise in db?
Given that there is double PSUer + 4 pieces of 80 mm fans.

Anyone who knows?

Grateful for help.

// WCM

I'm not sure with your comments if something like that is a good miner for you or not.   You are missing a S multiple times on brand.

But what electricity do you have 110/120 or 220/240?  And no it's not going to be quiet.
2816  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Beginner Mining Project - Antminer S4 on: January 14, 2016, 08:57:50 PM

On S4 it is really simple you need to connect to it's IP address (should be on screen with S4).   After connecting configure it to mine on a pool and your are set. Have you tried connecting to it's IP?

On pool it's more personal preference.  The first 2 are most common you mention.  But no problem with either one assuming you are on a good pool.

I'm just waiting for the S4 to be delivered but I have seen enough setup guides online to know what you mean.

Which Pools would you recommend?
I have registed with Slush, Antpool and Ghash so far.

Are there any useful tweaks for the S4 - e.g. fan speed / clock speed settings?
I noticed a few custom firmware's appear when searching online but worry that they may overload the system.

I personally would leave on stock firmware unless your mining on nicehash, the there is a custom firmware for that.  But I would do a back up of SD card first just as it's good practice and gets you a way to easily go back.

On pool it's pretty much personal preference.  Some really support pools like Kano's pool which is not bad.  And others go for the big guy's and care less about who they support.  So no one can decide that but you.
2817  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 14, 2016, 08:50:14 PM
@AgentCash

I think your situation is being taken care of as I post if I think the case is what I think it is.  Sent you a PM, please let me know.

Can't disclose the details of the transaction here but more than likely you will receive unopened boxes if this is the same case I'm thinking of. (There may be 1 box that's been opened but it should be to validate unit in functioning state)

P.S:  we can understand you being worried and very much so but please be patient with UPS at the moment as situation is being dealt with.

Thank you!

Why do you pick and choose what inquiries you will respond too on these forums. Here we are spending thousands, some of us hundreds of thousands of dollars and you guys dont have the decency to respond fast. Do you not understand that with bitcoin mining companies fast customer service is a MUST. I get better customer service when I bought a $100 computer off ebay. Hell i get even better customer service when I buy a $20 toy at target or a $6 shirt at ross. Arent you guys ashamed of yourself. Alittle bit goes a LONG way in customer service and you guys cant even put out a little bit

I think it's good they keep most in form of email or tickets.  They are being safe on what info is released so a customer info is not shared with whole world.   Even on one they answered they make sure to keep party secret besides one who posted.

If you have a question I suggest email.  I have had pretty good luck with it myself it's been a while since I have needed it but it treated me well.   So I would suggest if you want anwser in most cases send email or ticket over posting in forum asking for official support.  Forum is going to be more 3rd party support from other users.
2818  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: More info about investing in BTC on: January 14, 2016, 08:44:38 PM
Can someone experienced explain more about investing in BTC? Is it basically buy low, sell high or is there more to it?

It's not as simple as buy low sell high.  As market is ever changing you really can't know those points unless you got lucky on speculation.   There are so many ways of investing in BTC I think you have a lot of reading to do.

Easiest is long term holding.  It might not be the quickest on gaining but over long term the hope is BTC goes up so your investment goes up.
2819  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is there a reason not everyone use Circle/Coinbase to sell BTC in the USA? on: January 14, 2016, 08:42:30 PM
Companies like Coinbase, tend to charge the market face value. Meaning, that some people will purchase on forums to get a discount.

Coinbase also charge fees for transferring from money-to-money, usually for deposits of USD/GBP/EUR and withdraws (once the user exceeds $1 million).

There are also peope that believe that Coinbase are tracking people's identities.

I think any tracking has to do with KYC and staying out of money laundering.   It's been a while but I have seen coinbase take action if you are suspected of selling on LBC.  SO there is somesort of tracking for them to stay legal how much no one really knows.

I don't know if I agree on forums it's a discount.  Normally forums and LBC cost more to buy BTC then Coinbase.   They are normally cheaper to what I have seen.
2820  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is there a reason not everyone use Circle/Coinbase to sell BTC in the USA? on: January 14, 2016, 06:38:28 PM
because they trace everything you sell there, they are auto-regulated with IRS, people want to avoid paying taxes at least for small thing

so it make sense for many to not use coinbase, despite they have a high security thanks to their insurance that cover your funds

so you are saying one would rather receive a bank transfer or wire or boa online transfer which goes through the bank anyway as oppose to circle/coinbase because its auto regulated with irs?

thus it still goes through the bank but it isn't notified by irs?

If your dealing with large amount's chances of IRS knowing is much higher.   I'm not sure at what limit they do something.  I have kept a decent log of expenses if I ever do hit a spot where I cash out big I at least will have my expenses.

But yes coinbase likely knows and reports it as they follow KYC rules.  This keeps them from being a money launder.  They really have no choice but to follow it.  Say you go LBC there is not much chance of tax, but you are dealing with higher risk of scams, and at a certain level you could possibly be considered a money launder.

I personally say stick with the exchange.
