Looks like Herp was a member of Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and ran a "successful campaign" against MazaCoin:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=522235.msg5784785#msg5784785

If Herp went to all of that trouble to 'cleanout' a perceived shitcoin, he really has no life.

To me, there is nothing wrong with people stating negative opinions about a coin, even more than once, so long as they are logical arguments and not spam. But this 'operation shitcoin' thing basically sounds like a group somehow determining on their own that a coin is a scam, and then they plan to spam the forum with neg comments about it. Besides being annoying, there is also a chance they will simply be wrong.

Most of the nation coins have no actual plan to provide the coins to people (Hong Kong and that Silicon Valley coin being exceptions). Yet... maybe they do figure something out. All people have to do is wait for the first airdrop... if it doesn't work on one coin, people will naturally be hesitant to buy others that are similar.

I'm mostly surprised that there are people with nothing better to do than try to campaign against certain coins.

I'm fairly positive (no proof) that http://maplecoin.cf/ had something up like "Unofficial National Cryptocurrency of Canada" or something similar and was changed a little after to what it says now which is "National Crypto-Currency For Canada And The World."   I bet that AnonymousPirate came up with that wording on the Mazacoin site and it has not been changed since.  It's very misleading and in my opinion, and forgetting about the insane devaluation, why a lot of people are down on this coin.  It's fine to hope that this will be the first coin but the wording makes one believe it IS a sovereign national currency.  It is clearly not as of 3/19/14.  This is why I stopped mining it and why I will not be touching Maplecoin.

I expect Maple Coin will be DOA. I mean, who here really would want to invest in it, after what we've seen from AP and Maza?

I see on their site this:

The MapleCoin Development Team is extremely proud and honored to have been tasked with creating this Crypto-Coin for the Canada.

They might as well change it to:

The MapleCoin Development Team is extremely proud and honored to have been tasked with creating this Crypto-Coin for the <insert country name here>.

What confuses me is I thought Maza separated itself from AP (or AP from maza). Yet AP comes out with a post about not forking the coin. I am just wondering who is the actual dev right now for it.

I am not sure if there are legal grounds for a lawsuit, but when you think about it, the coin creator did make a false claim.
There were many false stories, certainly.
But is there an actual false statement directly from Harris?
Mostly he seems to have said things like 'designed to be the sovereign currency', which is true.
I don't know if you can actually find his fingerprints on the misinformation.

I don't recall, to be honest. But if you go to the maza website right now, you see this:
First Sovereign National Crypto-Coin In History

How can it be the FIRST sovereign national crypto-coin, if it's not currently a sovereign national crypto-coin?
They probably can get away with it, as I have no idea what legal terms or claims are needed for a lawsuit. But they certainly imply it's an official currency of the tribe.

Haha hiring lawyer because of buying crypto at peak (or at high) of bubble? Smiley

I am not sure if there are legal grounds for a lawsuit, but when you think about it, the coin creator did make a false claim.

It's like a company selling gold coins and then finding out they are gold wrappers with chocolate coins inside (okay, slight exaggeration).

The coin was advertised as the official sovereign currency of the Lakota tribe. But it simply wasn't true.
2805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange on: March 19, 2014, 06:50:19 PM

I have to agree, I haven't found a single "Exchange/ECN/Brokerage/??? whatever you want to call these sites that even comes close to what I can get for trading equities. I personally hate all of these web interfaces.  They're hard to program with any sophistication, they expose all sorts of interfaces directly to the hackers, there's absolutely no real charting or Statistical Analysis capabilities and the list goes on... I'm looking for a few people with a different view for this market that would be interested in doing it securely and doing it right!  Anybody have an interest in at least exploring this type of an opportunity?

IM me if you do!

I just started playing with cryptos, mostly for fun, like 2 months ago, so may not have tried all the exchanges yet. I did like the user interface for CoinEX, and they certainly seemed faster than Cryptsy. And they had an advantage of not listing an insane amount of coins for trading. I wasn't fond of the chat box though... and the scripts they ran (javascript? Not sure what it was) -- guessing that led to the exploit.

Anyway, I am curious what people think are the best exchanges. For me, the best is Cryptsy, even with its issues. These are the ones I have tried:

Cryptorush -- UI looks like it was put together by a 15 year old. Just stuff thrown up there, little coherence, weird buy/sell setup, and feels like it'll fall apart any second.

MintPal -- Nice UI, clean, easy to use. But no idea about security.

CoinedUP-  Terrible UI, low volume, extremely basic.

Atomic Exchange -- supposedly good security, but it sort of reminds me of Radio Shack. Odd layout, weird selection, not many popular items, and high prices. You end up making a small purchase, spending longer than it should to do so, then wonder why you bothered.

Bittrex -- low volume, so-so selection of coins. Iffy UI, at least so far -- missing some basic functions. They do seem to get some unique coins early though.

Poloniex -- okay-ish UI, some unique coins. I kind of like them, except for the fact that they lost a lot of people's bitcoins. And that is rather hard to overlook.
2806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange on: March 19, 2014, 05:50:02 PM

Craptsy ?! Are you sure??? They are really bad and this is when they don't have a problem... What would happen if they do have a real problem???

Sometimes you will wait them for hours to show up your own coins in your deposit balance. This is unacceptable.

Cryptsy moves like a slug, has an awkward interface, and can be very iffy. And that said, they probably are the best of a bad bunch.

I am sort of amazed at just how poorly most exchanges are set up and run.
2807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange on: March 19, 2014, 05:47:45 PM
This coindesk article seemed to indicate just btc was stolen.  Balances in the other alt-coins unaffected?  Yes/No?
http://www.coindesk.com/coinex-pw-hacked-will-cover-losses/

I think this is what most people are wondering about, and hoping for some info on. I only had a tiny bit of bitcoin on Coinex, but I did have some other coins.

Maybe I am remembering wrong, but didn't they say at some point in IRC that AP was no longer working on the coin and doing his own thing (ie Maple Coin)?

I thought Boxxa was the dev now?

Yet a statement comes out about not forking by AP?
2809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MZC][SHA-256] MAZACOIN *First Sovereign Currency* ANDROID WALLET AVAIL.!! on: March 19, 2014, 07:15:15 AM
The only way to maybe fix this, in my opinion, is first fork the coin so miner rewards aren't quite as much. The price needs to stabilize. Any lower, and 1000 maza = $1 or less.

Payu needs to show up here, or at the least, he needs a PR person here in this forum. They need to make updates once in a while, listen to concerns, and answer questions. And keep Boxxa away from dealing with real people. Or maybe find a new dev completely.

They badly need a tribal council agreement, if not with Lakota, some tribe. Anything official. Even if not made a 'sovereign currency', they need some type of agreement with some tribe, somewhere, that the coin will be used in their community. And this tribe needs to announce something officially.

Payu needs to find retailers that accept maza, either online or ideally in the Indian communities. They need to come up with a rational plan for distribution ... paper wallets, or something. Faucets or signups could work, IF the community had internet access/pcs/smartphones... but seeing as they probably don't, it may not make any sense.

If the coin sinks any further, just pack it in and use the premine to fund some Indian causes or help the Indian community with a project.. Convert to bitcoin, pay for said causes, and walk away.

2810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 06:32:36 AM

As I do not agree with the way of distribution to the HKC to hong kong people by faucet, I am sorry that I could not help you guys. Good luck!

I hope the developers can answer my questions in my previous posts.

Please also tell us whether the developers are from Hong Kong or not.

If from Hong Kong, I would like to visit them in person to collect the evidence. Then I am happy to post here to tell everybody is that the developers are really from Hong Kong.

Just tell us the truth.. Developers from Hong Kong or from elsewhere in Mainland China!!!!

I am not sure what 'guys' you speak of, but just offered a suggestion as to how to get rid of faucet bugs. You do know I am just a regular poster like you, right? I have no idea who the dev is, if in Hong Kong, or whatever. I just found the faucet idea interesting.

Other ideas of how to distribute, from other nation coins, seem to be by national ID. I don't think that really is so feasible. Otherwise... hmm... not sure how to properly distribute. A faucet is as good an idea as any, at least in my opinion.
2811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 06:20:17 AM

This picture shows that I was able to get more than 100 HKC by faucet within 15 mins.

I could get more 100 HKC via faucet within 24 hours if I want!!!!

Provide your IP to the dev, and maybe he will give you a bounty then for finding a bug. That is the point to testing. If you want to say the faucet has problems, it may very well. I just find the idea unique. And I also find troll posts bizarre, especially in giant red letters.
2812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MZC][SHA-256] MAZACOIN *First Sovereign Currency* ANDROID WALLET AVAIL.!! on: March 19, 2014, 06:16:03 AM

once i found the gofundme page http://www.gofundme.com/4uridc for Payu , That was when i dumped my losses... if you look at coinmarketcap the release date, peak, and dump are all right around the same time as AUR.  Weird how this coin got so much real media exposure when the guy is a straight up fraud and has no affiliation with the Lakota tribe.  I definitely took a good lesson with this coin.  hopefully the last time i fall for one of these shakeouts

I wouldn't call Payu a fraud. I might call him incompetent, but I won't say there is proof of fraud.

The moment that I knew I should get out of the coin is when I watched one of his youtube videos. The coin was sinking, people here were begging for the devs to show up, to chat about concerns, fork the coin to reduce miner rewards... do something.

And he puts up a video of himself sitting in a lake instead. I realized at that point he may not exactly know what he is doing.

My friend in US just told me that he just got 100 HKC by VPN!

And this occurred just the second after someone posts that VPN was blocked for them? Okay...

Maybe you should post on the Maza thread too. For some reason I think you'd fit right in there.
2814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MZC][SHA-256] MAZACOIN *First Sovereign Currency* ANDROID WALLET AVAIL.!! on: March 19, 2014, 05:55:37 AM

and you had better stay anonymous cuz noone will ever support your future projects....

Hey, on the plus side, I really doubt Maple Coin will take off... or perhaps it may not even be released now. I can just imagine what people would post on a thread for that coin.
2815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:49:37 AM

Do you know the IP issue (boundary) can be easily overcome??
Do you know there is something called VPN??
 Huh

I think some folks have tested it, and said it seems to be working. Whether it is foolproof or not, no idea... expect that is why it's still in testing. And no need to type in giant letters. Same reason why screaming doesn't make your point any more valid.
2816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:45:35 AM

>Why do you need an auditing agent, acct, or any of that stuff, if using a faucet?

This is a faucet for anyone, but only for HK people!!! You are scamming the name of HongKongCoin!!!! This hong kong coin is not justified as a HongKongCoin!!!

Huh?
2817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:43:57 AM

Let's talk about the coin itself.

Could anyone tell me how the 2.5% premined coins will be distributed to Hong Kong people?

1. What are the target groups for giving the 2.5% HKC?
2. What is the justification/reason?
3. How the 2.5% will be distributed to HK people (method)?
4. when the 2.5% will be distributed to HK people (time)?
5. Will there be any auditing scheme to ensure the 2.5% deliver to HK people (transparency and honesty)?

I'm not sure if it's a language issue, but it's on the first page of this thread.

---
Distribution Premine 2.5%
( For IP Protected Faucet / Distribution to Hong Kong People Only )
---

Click on the faucet link, if in HongKong, enter address. They send coins to you. It's that simple. You get the coins every 24hrs currently.
2818  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:41:39 AM

Totally agreed! No news about this in Hong Kong!!!

Do you think there are news reports on Aphrodite coin, Spain Coin, or whatever nation coin, in other countries? Of course not. It's a crypto thing, yes, for speculators, and perhaps by some rare chance one of these coins do catch on a little bit.

It's ridiculous to think there would be blasting news reports on some small crypto that is being given away on the web that uses a country name, or that people would expect to use it daily. It's also been on an exchange for what, one day? What did you expect to happen?

2819  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:37:17 AM

Why we need a Hong kong team for a Hongkongcoin?

(1) If it is a HongKongcoin, the developing team must need to know Hong Kong well. Otherwise, the coins cannot survive in Hong Kong.
(2) Only a HK team will know how to distribute the HKC to Hong Kong residents or citizens in fair manner.

>A higher rate than the 2.5% premine would have made sense though. Then again, it's not meant to go to every single HongKong resident.

Feedback:  Why not to every single HK resident? The developer needs to provide a justification for not distributing to all HK residents/citizens.
Otherwise it will not be fair. Most importantly, I could not see any proposal from the developers for how to distribute 2.5% premined coins to HK people.

Will there be any auditing agent/accountant to monitoring how the 2.5% premined HKC will be given to HK people?

A larger premine would have made sense, even the 50% premine most other nation coins use. As for how they plan to distribute, it's on the first page of this thread ... the faucet linked to IP address.

Why do you need an auditing agent, acct, or any of that stuff, if using a faucet? And the reason why not to set up the coin so every single person gets it, is because it's impossible to set up fairly. Some is better than nothing.

Realistically speaking, will this be a coin that revolutionizes Hong Kong business, or used a ton as their form of crypto. Nope.

Is it free coin for Hong Kong residents who use the faucet. Yep.

And that's probably more than any of these so called nation coins will provide.
2820  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 19, 2014, 05:17:23 AM
I do admit this is a strange thread. People are bizarre... they are spending more time over the fact that they don't know if the developer is from HongKong or not, than about the coin itself.

The thing that impresses me is the fact the dev figured out a way to distribute coins to the people its supposed to go to. Every other nation coin has an 'airdrop' without a feasible way to actually do this drop. A higher rate than the 2.5% premine would have made sense though. Then again, it's not meant to go to every single HongKong resident.
