2801  Economy / Economics / Re: Does a side job/business improve your finanical stability ? on: January 14, 2023, 10:37:04 PM
It does, in a way because it serves as a supplement to your salary on your first job. While it does not automatically provide anyone financial stability, it helps you get there fast, especially if you don't have a family to feed yet and your sole responsibility is yourself.

I myself have worked on 2 - 3 jobs when I was still in college to support myself. Until I got a full-time job in the lab, I still work for different jobs that meets my skills and that can use me with a somewhat competitive compensation. It's very hard to manage time at first, but as time goes by you'll just get used to it fast.
2802  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How wrongful can this go? on: January 14, 2023, 09:25:40 PM
Well if the information you're using isn't tied to any real person then I guess you're good, otherwise you're just throwing someone under the bus whom have no idea what you're getting them into. I agree that giving out KYC details to crypto casinos might be wary for for you, and that you're just trying to play it safe, but at least be considerate enough of the person whose identity you're using to pass the KYC. There isn't any workaround to bypassing KYC just yet, and if there is then the system is flawed, and casinos wouldn't really require them at all.

Roulette games alikes will never go out of business for online casinos but I still believe that video games are a big challenge for casinos, now that we have play to earn games is big not even a bigger challenge for casinos?

I know that play to earn isn't perfected yet, too many flaws with the tokenomics and stuff but if a better solution comes there might be less interest for online casinos, the only games that will keep them alive is Roulette and the oldies.

Play to earn games is too grindy, and I don't think a lot of people will have the time to grind it out to get something off of the opportunities that they are getting. Casinos will never go out of business because they are offering fast and efficient entertainment to people who has the money that are looking to multiply it by gambling. Play to Earn remains to be a field that is a hit or miss, and most of the time it's a miss because not everyone has the time in the world to earn cents/a few dollars for hours on end.
2804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ballon d'or prediction thread 2022/2023 on: January 14, 2023, 05:04:37 AM
I mean, Messi won the world cup, right? Isn't that what this award is all about? It's not really a judgement of the player itself, it's what they've achieved. It sort of ignores individual qualities, and what they've done individually for that year, and only really rewards the players that have actually achieved something. Messi, obviously is one of the best players to play the sport, but ultimately winning the World Cup likely sealed the deal.
I heard in the commentary of the final match they were talking about it.
Argentina wins then Messi will get it but if France wins then it will go to Mbappé. Messi is the deal here.

I don't think these awards can define players like Messi, Mbappé, Christian Ronaldo, Neymar Jnr., Robert Lewandosk, Luka Modrić. All of them are great in their styles and achievements.

Ballon d'or is like an award recognizing the achievements AND the individual skill of the player. It isn't really a great measure of greatness IMO, because only winners can be granted this award even if they played kinda lackluster compared to others who didn't win the Cup. I think everyone here agrees that Messi should be the one receiving this award due to his win, and it's hard to contest this because he's been renowned as one of the most talented players to ever play in the field and he finally got his world cup win.

What a waste but as per owlcatz I think the chance is too slim for the investors to get there money. I hope yogg will face jail time, this isn't something of an ordinary, this was like a case of a hardcore addiction that lead him to do this. I don't know how Cold Keys work but I think I joined his raffle in the past, good thing I didn't won or else I may have used it too.

Yogg will surely just opt to face jail time rather than repay what he took, or he does the right thing and work for whatever amount he stole from those 86 collectibles he stole from. Everyone who has those collectibles are burned now, and have no way of reselling those collectibles for a profit later down the line which every one of them hopes for. If I were Yogg, I'd try and make amends by promising to repay whatever amount I stole in order to avoid jail time. Of course, it's no easy feat but it's something that should be done and prioritized by him if he wants to keep his freedom.

We are nearing the end in HLTV's list of top 20 players. The 7th name was M0nesy, the 6th name was Broky, and the 5th name was Niko. Only 4 names left. 4. name, to be announced on January 13, 22:00. The Player of the Year will be announced on January 14 as part of the HLTV Awards Show. Can anyone guess who is in 4th place?

S1mple is definitely among the top three names and I think it can even take the title of the first best player again, but this year it seems a little difficult because Navi has gone down a bit.

It looks like m0nesy is the victim of his team's being unsuccessful for a long time. Otherwise he has made a huge effort in many tournaments so far. I think he is undoubtedly the best player of his team although there are great names like NiKo. This is like a proof that this list is made considering team successes as well.

I don't know if this is fair though. Because they are saying that this is a list of top 20 players but they take their teams into account as well. Some players deserve higher ranks because of this.

Individual ratings, that Ax1le guy would surely be in the top spot even though C9 hasn't performed that well the past year. I think the system HLTV uses is fair enough for those players who performed so hard in order to get a win for their teams - or at least be placed in a pretty good ranking in the tournaments they have joined. I guess if you're really a good player, you should convert your performance somewhat to a win, otherwise you're still missing one thing that separates you from the greats of the league. M0nesy is still young, and I think he'll still get better with age. He already has the game sense and aim, he just needs to get better at making decisions that will put his team to a good position in all aspects of the game.

Sekrekt is 0-6 in DPC ...they need to change something or it's Puppey who really lost the love of playing Dota 2 ? or maybe a really really bad mode for Secret and a Dota 2 patch as well.

Dude's a history by now, and maybe he's slowly losing interest for the game, or that the captains around him have got a better grip in the current meta than he has. A lot of teams with younger captains tend to have better strats on new metas that Valve is favoring in their new map version. But yeah, experience cannot easily be defeated, but sometimes thinking outside the box can.

Liquid vs Tundra first game was a lesson from Liquid of how to play aggressive even if you don't control the game for such a long period. Tundra , really thought they could out play ursa just by ignoring him for the first seconds of the fight and it worked for quite a while until Zai and Micke got the necessary items to survive and keep Ursa alive and that was GG already. Second game, we might see a new Tundra strategy and I'm curious about it as AUI2000 has a massive IQ when it comes to dota 2 strategies.

I think what Tundra wants to do here is to isolate Ursa as much as they can. That hero is notorious for being bad at chasing, and can easily be kited like Sven and Troll. They can transition Tusk to buy aghs to kick him out of the playing field and the rest of the team will kill supports then Nisha. Unfortunately though, Zai already knows how to play this and just got greaves to survive for quite a bit and use CK illusions against the enemy to pick off supports.

Pretty sure Tundra will get a map here and we'll reach a decider map based on the performance of both teams earlier.

EDIT: watched it live. Tundra is getting beaten SOOOO bad.

The layout of the circuit of Kazakistan has been revealed.

It will be a MOTOGP track this year.

Source: https://www.formulapassion.it/motorsport/moto/motogp-svelato-il-layout-del-circuito-del-kazakistan

As you can see, it will be a Ducati track for strong engine.

That's a lot of straights and sharp turns. A powerful engine will surely be advantageous on such a track setup. Ducati can outrun any other competition in this newly-built track. It favors the design of their bike and aggressive and very powerful engine with the number of straights in this track. I'm hoping for a dominant Ducati year this 2023 with Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia at the helm of the said racing team. Their extremely well performance in 2022 can be topped off with this kind of track that they're set to ride on this 2023. Hopefully they don't underdeliver as they're one of the current favorites in the sport.

I don't know this case, but maybe someone could make this clear, because I'm confused... You guys bought cold wallets from someone who made the keys for you, not thinking about whether he still holds the private keys for these wallets, then deposited bitcoin to these addresses and got them stolen?
It's like buying a used trezor or ledger and depositing to the existing addresses. Did the pandemic brainwash you or something?

This is not a gambling problem. This is a scammer exploiting an opportunity by simply picking up money some people sent his way!

Who wants to buy a wallet from me? I'll make you guys some nice addresses to use and they're going to be free! Any takers? Cheesy

The person who created these collectibles was once a trusted member of this forum. He had a good reputation right before someone who owned his collectible noticed that his funds from those collectibles were swiped. As per the creator of this collectible, all of the files/keys from the collectibles he sells, he destroy immediately. But unfortunately, there is one collectible set to which he didn't delete all of the files which he then used to get money from and gamble it all away (as for owlcatz who came in contact with him).

I think this may not be a gambling discussion per se, but it's a textbook example of how gamblers can throw everything away just to get their fill of their gambling hunger. Mind you, his reputation is years in the making, but because of his gambling itch he just threw it all away.
2810  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Best Times when I visit casinos Versus When I don't on: January 13, 2023, 05:26:25 PM
Best time to visit the casino is when you're feeling lucky and you have that extra cash on you. No matter the outcome of your gambling session, you still felt good playing in the casino and you enjoyed your time without having second thoughts about the money that you've spent. I've been like these for the past couple of years thinking that I will get a lucky streak and see a list full of greens, that's why I've been hooked with dice for the longest time. Thankfully I came to my senses and began trying to win rather than just see a lucky streak on my account then accepting defeat afterwards.

As for bad times, when you don't have any money then that's a bad time to play in the casino for sure. I'd rather eat my last meal with my last money than try to gamble it away and make myself believe that I can turn it to a win.
2811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: January 13, 2023, 04:46:27 PM
AFAIK, the bookies should return bets on events which has their results nulled because the outcome of the event is invalid.
It is not that simple. Bookies already paid out winning bets as well. How would you refund those? Let's just say someone one 1000EUR on that game and withdrew them from account. What can you do? Void the bets and give money back to those that lost the bets and on the other hand pay put winners? Moot point anyway, every bookie has its own T&C and it is written there what the procedure is. I wouldn't hope for refund.

Yeah there's that. Casinos obviously can't just take away people's funds to recoup all the winnings from an event that has its results voided because it will certainly cause some backlash. The bookies don't know whether decisions will be overturned too so you're right, it'll be hard to get those - unless the bookie is willing to take the hit from winning bets just to make it 'even' to those who have their bets lost because of the cheating scandal. Of course they won't do that, they are in the money-making business after all. So yeah, sucks to be the guys that bet on PSG.LGD and lost the bet. :/
2812  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 13, 2023, 03:41:32 PM
This Lakers game is crazy. Heading into double overtime now. The referees are making some controversial calls but at least they’re letting them play it out. Westbrook is having a great game so far but Luka Doncic has been single-handedly keeping his team in it. Now to see if it ends in double overtime or if they go for triple…

Great news about Cousins tomorrow. I hope he makes the team and stays healthy.

2 clutch threes for Luka to send them into 2OT and most importantly got the W. We can definitely say this early that Luka is a future HOF. His basketball IQ are goat-like.
That was a crazy game though, with almost everyone for each time had a good game. We didn't even expect Gabriel to step up for the Lakers down the stretch, both for the regulation and OT.

What a game. The Mavs was leading early and I thought the Lakers won't be able to catch them up but I was wrong. The Lakers though had bad 3-point shooting while Mavs' showed consistent accuracy with their shots.

Luka Doncic has been performing like a goat since his 1st year in the NBA and he keeps on improving. At 23 years old, he will be breaking more records soon as long as he keeps being healthy. It's just surprising because he is not fast or physically strong but he performs well either outside or inside. His IQ indeed is at a whole new level, he's too smart.

So true! Mavs are something special right ? but Luka is a freaking diamond and he is on the way to become the greatest that ever played basketball and he is still crazy young. More than this , Lakers really gave 100% last night in order to get that W but Luka simply didn't let them and he kept pushing for 3 points and most of them were a success.

Like you said , if he keeps playing like this and push himself over the limit , I have no doubt that whenever he will hit his prime , the league will stand no chance against him.

Doncic is slowly becoming one of the greats with the way he's playing right now. Give him some time and good teammates and he can possibly convert his stats to some wins and possibly a ring. He's a great all rounder and can fill in most positions inside the court, although his shooting and rebounding is what makes him shine inside the court. He's only 23 years old, and he's got a lot ahead of him, and he can still improve as time goes on and as he play more and more games. Hopefully though he does not incur a career-ending injury like what some promising talents did way before they hit their prime. That's the only thing that I'm hoping for for this young Serbian dude.
2813  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can we really make a living in sports betting? on: January 13, 2023, 11:10:28 AM
But have seen friends that have made money from betting, buy cars and build houses for one winning. It's possible when luck is by your side.
Do you mean made money by opening a betting shop or made money by doing consistent betting, which is what I think that's what O.P is talking about? Because no doubt people have bought cars, built mansions by one lucky shot winning big, that is not always consistent. Because making a living on sport betting alone is something not that easy as loses is one thing that is inevitable, no matter how careful one may seems to bet his/her money with. Which is why just as earlier said that for you to make any decent amount on this it requires huge money while staking on small odds with very low risk

Possible if you have a lot of bankroll and bet on a lot of events every day. But if you are a sensible person, you wouldn't really choose to go the sports betting route in order to make a living. You will have to go and build businesses in order to make a steady stream of income for yourself. But of course, if you are a huge sports fan, you will opt to go and bet on sports in order to make money because it suits your passion and your interests. Though be ready for the possibilities because you might end up losing your money with just a couple of bad beats.
2814  Economy / Economics / Re: These Are the Top 10 Most Profitable Side Hustles in 2023 on: January 12, 2023, 10:21:52 PM
Among all of these, I guess being a craftsman will take you to more places if you do it more often. They are very in demand in the US afaik, specially those who are experts in woodworking because there aren't many professionals left that are practicing this. Also, it's one of the hardest side-hustle to do initially because you will be needing to allot time and effort to study the craft before earning something off of it.

The list as a whole is very doable to the common folk. What lacks, perhaps, is the dedication and motivation to do more than the normal 9-5 job. My current job already puts me on a spot of comfort financially, but I still prefer having a second job just to keep me busy because I don't have anything else to do anyway. But for other people, having a second job is very crucial because it helps pay the bills and put food in the table. Sadly though, we are in a time when having a second job is no longer an option but a necessity that people should take if they want to live comfortably.
2815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 12, 2023, 09:33:24 PM
I just saw this news that have been reported a few days ago. Jordan Clarkson declined Utah's contract extension.

--> https://www.slcdunk.com/2023/1/7/23544360/report-jordan-clarkson-rejected-utah-jazz-contract-extension-offer

And while browsing some news on the web, I've seen this article that he has bought a mansion in San Antonio.

--> https://frontofficesports.com/jordan-clarkson-mansion-san-antonio/

Yeah, you get the idea of what I'm thinking but it's not yet official and what teams do you think will be rushing to take him?

I heard about him declining the offer, maybe the offer is too low compared to his status now, but I have no idea that he bought a mansion in san Antonio. If we will use it as a hint, then most probably he is gonna with the Spurs and I think Spurs have enough salary cap to offer him a better contract. However, I think this team won't still make it to the playoffs.

Maybe the mansions in San Antonio is a good investment, and not necessarily him living in Texas to join the Spurs? Cheesy But yeah there are rumors but no official statement released just yet. Clarkson is doing quite okay with Jazz, but a player like him would surely want a higher salary even if they don't make it to the playoffs. Maximize the profits first, then chase greatness second: I think this is the play that most NBA players are going after in this day and age.

Declining offer in the NBA can become a worse case scenario if you don't have any second plan or someone already have offered you behind the curtain to decline any extension. We already seen some NBA players declining their contract extension and they quickly regret it because their calculations was wrong and they haven't receive the same offer since then. Let's see how will it turned out for JC this time.
Keyword: Dennis Schroder.  Cheesy

Dude miscalculated heavily rejecting that extension. If he play by the rules before making his own plays in the league, he could have enjoyed that $80m before going to aim for a free agent with high salary. Overestimating oneself is always bad. He knows his value, but I think he believed so much that other teams are looking to snag him the moment he becomes available, which unfortunately wasn't the case.

I don't know what Clarkson is thinking if ever this is true, the link is unknown to me so I won't jump the gun yet. from @boyptc
But if ever it happens I'd accept what Jazz is offering. It doesn't mean a bigger salary once they put you in the starter unit from the 6th man of the year.
He is changing, I guess it's too obvious not to see.
Bigger markets might be his target but being the face of the franchise is also a goal most NBA players are trying to achieve. He is now part of that duo with Markkanen and I think the Jazz management likes to keep it that way.
But, if he will force this kind of decision then he might find himself hanging waiting for a new contract.

Jordan Clarkson is one of those players that are above-average but not something that you would want to get if there are also other options available. He's a good all-rounder with shooting capabilities and a sense of defense, but everyone can do what he does on the court with proper teammates. Hopefully he stays with Jazz and increase his value first before moving somewhere else and not making a mistake that he'll regret.
2816  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: January 12, 2023, 09:00:27 PM
They'll for sure going to be punished.

I'm waiting for an official announcement from the organizers that Knights to be disqualified and I guess those that have lost with their bets against this team might get a refund.

And that's going to depend now on the sportsbook where you've placed the bet. But I guess, that's it, no refund is most likely going to be given if there's a policy related to such matches that have been disqualified.
for a refund i may not be expecting much because if the match is not fair its not the sportbook's fault so likely no refund.
but I'm just a little disappointed with the PSG.LGD vs Knight match why there has to be cheating in this 2023 DPC match, it's really embarrassing. causing PSG.LGD to lose even though that team is my favorite team to lose just by cheating

Why shouldn't there be a refund if the results are nulled due to Knights cheating? Hopefully Valve does the right thing and nullify the results of the PSG.LGD vs Knights match. There's no room for cheating in Dota 2, much more in 2023 because this is just the start of the DPC season. If they let this pass, then it's like an invitation for other teams to do the same as the punishment isn't severe and bets can be placed for monetary gain. AFAIK, the bookies should return bets on events which has their results nulled because the outcome of the event is invalid.

Zywoo might just have a slot on the top 4 for this year. I'm quite surprised that m0nesy doesn't belong in the top 5 this year even though his name has been very popular on the latter half of 2022. I guess their tournament performance didn't really help in him achieving a better ranking for 2022. S1mple is definitely in the top 3 that's for sure, although I can't think of any names that could outrank him in 2022. Even though Navi isn't performing well, he still posted several good stats in notable games for sure.

My top 4 predictions would be this:

1/2: S1mple or Zywoo
3/4: Elige/NAF

There's not a lot of names that I can think of that can fill the remaining slots. These guys have been pretty consistent all throughout the year. I've been reading 'Ax1le' as a possible contender for the remaining 4 slots given his high rating for the last 6 months, but I'm sure it's not only rating that matters. Possible that he's there because of his ratings but C9's tournament presence this past year isn't that strong tbh. Elige is also a coin toss if he belongs to the top 4, but he's had a lot of great maps and great tournaments together with NAF.
2818  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: January 12, 2023, 07:57:10 PM
I tried to ask ChatGPT if it can predict the winner of an NBA game and this is what it said:
Quote
I am not able to predict the winner of NBA games because I am a language model trained on a large dataset of text and do not have access to real-time information about the games or the teams. Additionally, there are many factors that can affect the outcome of a game, such as injuries, team dynamics, and the performance of individual players, that are difficult to predict.

Fair enough. Good thing they have embedded this reply to the bot so that there already is a heads up when it comes to these questions. Its creators know that there will be people that will use the AI to predict certain events, so they already prevented that to happen by placing disclaimers about this non-feature on the AI.

Maybe there are some here who can crack the code and can get something from the ChatGPT, but I guess relying on statistics is way better than relying on AI when it comes to predicting outcomes. Another question is that, can you trust your money to an AI? ChatGPT isn't updated and the information that it is giving to us are the ones that it got until 2021 which means what happened in 2022 and this year (if there are some) aren't in the ChatGPT therefore, it is a bit of outdated. Nevertheless, give it at least 3-5 years then we will see a better one than what we are seeing right now.

There are a lot of AIs that are already predicting short-term events such as the one that they use in stock market firms. They have banked a lot on these AI to make predictions out of past movements and a lot of other algorithms to make them some money, and I think those are working quite well because they are constantly developing those AIs to adapt to the situation. I guess those AIs may not be able to predict NBA games and sports events, but they can be utilized by those in the finance sector to make decisions on the fly and convert those into profits.

Would be interesting to see how they would be able to implement security measures to make sure that the system will not be gamed. The parameters to which these rewards would be given will also be interesting too. I don't think it will be solely reliant on content quality because that is subjective. Engagement will also be a hard factor to base on because there are a lot of paid services that can artificially boost post engagements that can game the system. Hopefully Elon and the Twitter team can come up with decent guidelines that addresses this question from content creators and us consumers of content as well.
2820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: January 12, 2023, 04:27:48 PM
PSG LGD is like a new team now. The only remaining player from the previous roster is Nothingtosay and Y. Ame (retired), Xinq and Faith_bian are not playing for LGD anymore. They are still performing very well even though they are recently assembled team. They can dominate, it just needs more playing time together.

PSG.LGD is the way they are because of their coach and not necessarily their players. Xiao8 is what PSG.LGD is all about, and I think the True Sight have already conveyed you this because everything revolves around xiao8's strategies, metas, and decisions. He wouldn't be called Director 8 for no reason. Even with the departure of Somnus, Chalice, and xNova who brought the said team to prominence in 2018 - 2020, PSG.LGD as a team is still very strong because of the leadership of Xiao8. It'll take some time before they can get their shit together but I'm pretty sure LGD is still deserving as a Div 1 team.
