2822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the biggest mistakes you've done with Bitcoin? on: March 02, 2017, 11:21:54 AM
As the topic says, What are the biggest mistakes you've done with Bitcoin?

I'm trying to gather just a list on things that have gone wrong. This can be terrible backup stories, client hacks, reversing at MtGox and such.
I don't want to gather a list of hacks of commercial sites in particular because there are plenty of information on that already.

I will post everything I find on this very simple website:
http://sites.google.com/site/whoissatoshi/bitcoin-mistakes

Don't be shy!

EDIT: Please add some context, interesting details etc to make it a nice story.
One of the biggest mistake I did when I come across bitcoin is slow to take decision for investment because at that bitcoin is less than  100 dollars. I am regretting now because if I investment a 100 dollars then it could be around 1230 dollars today. Another big mistake is thinking I can be rich in bitcoin through faucet.
2823  Economy / Economics / Re: Why Doesn’t Western Union or Moneygram Use Bitcoin? on: March 02, 2017, 07:02:50 AM
Western union money transfer and moneygram will ever be against bitcoin and others crypto currencies as they see it as they major competitor. When bitcoin is fully grown western union Money transfer and Moneygram will be out of business because of the charges and the decentralize nature of bitcoin.
2824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC low fee taking days (or more) on: March 02, 2017, 06:50:58 AM

With the price up and trading going up, fees are skyrocketing. Transactions a few days ago took hours which was too long. My now it's been 24 hours and still 0 confirmations. Besides the major annoyance and risk this causes, is there any way to fix BTC? I don't see it surviving unreliability.

I have the same problem with one transaction.20 hours and still 0 confirmations.
This really stops bitcoin gorwth and mass adoption. What is the btc price is $3000?
We will have to wait for more than a week for a transaction to be confirmed.
Someone has to intervene before this confirmation turn out to be a big issue. Confirmation of transactions after 20 hours is annoying and frustration. Though we understand that low fee slow confirmation something has to still be done about it.
2825  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-02-28] A Regulatory Storm Is Forming in China on: March 01, 2017, 06:32:11 PM
It is a nice move from BTCC to offer zero fees until March 31. I think this will bring much more customers to their place. But at the same time requiring a video verification is not so good for their customers. But I think they have no choice because most likely it has something to do with the government's regulations.

video call verification is the best mode of verification that will bring confident to genuine investors. If your hand is cleaned you have nothing to be afraid of. Because of anonymous nature of bitcoin transactions, bad and evil people are used it to perpetrate there evils scheme.
2826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: As the price of a single bitcoin gets further and further out of reach..... on: March 01, 2017, 06:17:55 PM
You have to decide NOW how many bitcoins will make you rich in the future because it's getting to the point where an upper middle class American or European can no longer buy a full bitcoin.

Anyone have any ideas how many you'll need to be rich in 2020 and 2025?
This time last year I was discouraged when bitcoin was trading between 230$ to 450$ but now I am happy bitcoin is trading above 1200$. With few hundred of bitcoin I will become a rich man from the side of the world I come from. For now I will keep on hold to what I have if possible till bitcoin will be trading above 2500$

2828  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Methods for Shorting Altcoins with BTC on: March 01, 2017, 01:40:27 PM
Looks like you are right that they offer simple shorts. Back in 2013 most of the shorting was done by OTC contracts that were clunky and risky.

Thanks!
poloniex and yobit are two best place for shorting bitcoin and altcoins. Though altcoins and bitcoin trading is very risk I have to avoid it after I could not understand it very well. Op because of risky nature of trading either is margin, speculation and buy and hold for short time or long term purposes I will advice you to study the altcoins very well as this will determine your success in it.
2829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you remember the very first time you sent a Bitcoin transaction? on: March 01, 2017, 07:02:52 AM
Do you remember what it felt like the very first time you sent out a Bitcoin transaction to another address in your life? For some, it might have been an easy thing to do, especially for the geeks who were here when Bitcoin was born and it had not been valued and traded against fiat currency as following soon after, yet for others it can be very confusing to get things right.

Were you filled more with happiness, excitement or fear when you clicked that 'send' button? And in which year was it when that happened? Did it it turn out just fine, did your transaction arrive where intended?
The first time I send bitcoin was December 2016, I sent the bitcoin to my poloniex trading platform for trading. I could remember after try to calculate the amount I want to be in my account and the charge. Then after I click send I went back to my poloniex Account to see if my transactions was successful and when I see that it was successful I feel happy.
2830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the Bitcoin be seen as a collectible item ? on: March 01, 2017, 06:48:18 AM
I don't see Bitcoin as a traditional collectible item, it shares some characteristics because its something that everyone could want, but more like everyone would want to be rich.
studying the characteristics of bitcoin it seen to be like digital gold and others mining instrument but  from its operations we cannot classified it as collectable items as doing that will undermined it value as crypto currencies or money. You can buy and stored bitcoin and also mining as gold but treat it as gold will affect it values.
2831  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [video] How to read historic price charts on: February 28, 2017, 08:34:36 PM

Every traders on bitcointalk that need to understand past price movement and fundamental reason why price move in those direction should endeavour to go through this video. Once again op thank you for putting this nice video together.
2832  Economy / Speculation / Re: Exchanges Selling 1 Bitcoin For 1355$ on: February 28, 2017, 03:44:15 PM
Don't be stupid find best exchange to sell at least for 1300$.
Bitcoin exchange at 1355$!  I think is a black market price. I which local exchangers' in my country should be able to exchange even 1150 dollars but they are exchanging below 1150$.  For those who are from countries with bitcoin high demand, how can we from countries with lower demands on bitcoin make higher profit converting our bitcoin to dollars?.
2833  Economy / Economics / Re: Blockchain adoption by banking sector on: February 28, 2017, 07:12:16 AM
it is blockchain (the technology) not bitcoin. which means the banks and so many other financial groups are very interested in this technology and want to "create their own altcoin". they will make a ledger and possibly not even make it public and use the technology to increase their security, and speed for internal transactions.
The bank are only interested in using the technology and create their own private larger, I agree with your comments on  the reason why bank are developing they own blockchain. They might not using bitcoin but this will promote bitcoin as bitcoin created the foundation for blockchainer.
2834  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How hard is it really to make money on: February 28, 2017, 06:55:56 AM
hey,   i am thinking of learning to make money of bitcoin, i understand it takes alot of work, my question is to make money of btc etc and alternative courancies how much learning do i realistically have to do  and how much work and dedication, how hard is it to be succesfull?
To make money or bitcoin and crypto currencies general entails hard work but hard work alone cannot guarantee you success. What guaranteed you success in anything worthwhile is your skills and knowledge about what you want to venture into. You want to make money through bitcoin which skills do you have about trading, programming, website design and coins mining?.
2835  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: LONG TERM BITCOIN BUYERS on: February 28, 2017, 06:42:53 AM
In bitcoin long term were at least above 2years. I won't prefer long term investment with bitcoin as their is no assurance of future happening. I make investment depending upon the price fluctuation taking place.
To me though bitcoin and crypto currencies as money is at its infancy compared to conventional fiat and bank system. 2 years long terms investment might not be realistic. The historical value of bitcoin shown continuous price upward movement from 2008 till date so to me anything from  five years upward like other assets is worthwhile.
2836  Economy / Economics / Re: If the ETF fails and large BTC sell off happens can coinbase exchang fail on: February 28, 2017, 06:24:56 AM
Coinbase and other large exchanges wont fall nor take a hit in the least if the ETF fails, I personally think that all this hype due to the prices going so high due to the insane amount of people that are going to want to buy and sell are just an insane amount of bullshit spewed by people who want to make a quick buck off people. The large sell off or buy isn't going to occur, demand will just increase and the price may go up a bit and go down a bit.

All I see is the price coming to some sort of stabilization in some time after the ETF is approved, IF IT IS APPROVED. These exchanges have such a hold on all of the purchases that I just don't think they'd fall even during a high amount of selling and not enough buying to support it.

Etf and coinbase have a lot of difference.

In my mind, btc can up with etf, but etf cant make btc fall

Tough wording but I'll agree with you partly, the ETF won't make BTC fall in the least it just won't happen even if some random dudes on the internet attempted to make people think this.
I am optimistic ETF cannot make bitcoin fail because of the fundamental nature of crypto currencies. Bitcoin in the first place was not created a property such as digital gold and silver but as a currencies, money and cash. Treating bitcoin a property or stocks will undermined it value. So either it has ETF approval or not bitcoin, coinbase has come to stay.
2837  Economy / Economics / Re: Central of the Philippines Recognizes Bitcoin on: February 28, 2017, 06:13:12 AM
Bank of central Philippines recognition of bitcoin is good news to crypto currencies communities. Bitcoin provides inclusion in our financial system something the  convention bank could not do. Even as bitcoin is over price I think now is still the best time to buy and hold it.
2838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 10 main mistakes of Bitcoin newbies on: February 27, 2017, 12:25:34 PM
This article have missed to cover about low fee newbies used to put to save cost on payments leading unconfirmed transaction for many hours. That will make them panic about bitcoin and they will start blaming bitcoin network for it and some may even opt out from the idea of using bitcoin again.  Grin
The op has tried and we have to give him thanks for this instead of looking for loops holes in his article. Were they transactions that were not conclusive? No matter how long it take the transactions are all confirmed, we only need to be a little patients with the system. Op thank you for your article for newbies.
2839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I failed to make a fortune as an early bitcoin adopter? on: February 27, 2017, 07:11:34 AM
I wish I was in your shoe then as I come to know about bitcoin when is over value. I came across crypto currencies in 2015 and started making few satoshi in 2016. We humans being will always think rationally when ever we come across an investment opportunity. I am happy for you as now you have invest in bitcoin related site now.
2840  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will happen when 1 satoshi is $ 1? on: February 27, 2017, 06:59:26 AM
That means a holder of one bitcoin will be a billionaire in dollars. For me personally I pray that should happen as I will automatically because a billionaire in dollars.  I doubt if this is possible in the next 50 years to come an by then I believe satoshi and others cryptographers will update the blockchain for a cent like value. I really wish this happen.
