Hi guys! can anybody tell me in what altcoin i should invest right now? i'm considering 1000$ in ppc what do you think?
Take a bite or two out of this sell wall and you should be well rewarded over the long term: https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/30. But remember this is not about trading, it's about investing and helping to build the greatest coin imaginable.

The price keeps going up so fast, it's too difficult to try. I tried selling high, buying low, bit the price never came down again So I had to buy back higher. It just keeps going up. Just wait a bit. It's coming back down probably to around 1/2 of where it is now. IMO.

Thanks. Is there a paper wallet link list for all the different types of coins? Hmmm... not sure. I've haven't seen a paper wallet generator for other altcoins.

But I don't quite understand why Bitcoin is fundamentally better than some of the alternatives? Don't some of the major alternatives have quicker confirmation times, require less resources to operate, etc.. ?
Exactly. And let us not forget that Bitcoin's original developer abandoned the currency mid-project and vanished into thin air. I would compare Bitcoin to the early search engines of the Internet. Google came later and the altcoins are just getting their feet wet. Bookmark: http://coinmarketcap.com/

I think the name is one of the reasons people don't take us seriously. When I tell them about it, they're like hmm "funny name"... Surely there must be better alternatives.
Yes!! According to my research people unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies prefer the name GoldCoin over the name Bitcoin 100% of the time. http://coinmarketcap.com/

he mentions Litecoin at the end !
This is big news! The altcoins are emerging one by one.

I can see that you can now use Bitcoins to pay for various things, including food, property and even a ride on a Virgin Galactic spaceship, but why would I want to actually spend coins when the value has increased by 30,000% over the last 2 years? Perhaps I don't yet fully understand all the benefits, but holding on to coins (or working to increase the amount you own) seems far more sensible at the moment.
You are making the assumption that the price will not fall over time. I think this is not a really good assumption. One thing that is important is to keep in mind that until this point, Bitcoin has not had much competition. But that is changing: http://coinmarketcap.com/What this means is that a real potential exists for some of these other coins to take marketshare away from Bitcoin. In terms of the return you referenced in your comments, I think the possibility of Bitcoin seeing a 30K repeat is much much less likely that an altcoin making that type of move. Max Keiser is now starting to talk about Litecoin and I'm sure he'll find good things to say about other altcoins soon. So in my view, at this point in the game diversifying into some select altcoins has a much more attractive risk/reward profile that having all ones eggs in the Bitcoin basket. IMO. http://rt.com/shows/keiser-report/episode-526-max-keiser-025/

Hey all, long time lurker, finally created an account.
I visited a Bank of America branch today to send out a non-bitcoin related wire. When the teller was all finished executing it he looked at his screen and made a comment about recent Coinbase ACH debits in one of my checking accounts, something along the lines of "oh getting started with bitcoin, how do you like it?". I was very surprised to hear such a direct question from him (none of his business, frankly bank tellers ask way too many personal questions imo). I replied with a simple "we'll see how it goes" and he went on to say how risky it sounds to him. Then we said our goodbyes. Uneventful, but they're definitely paying attention.
Anyhow, nice to finally post here, I love this forum and all that I've learned over the years!
Glad to see you posting! Thanks for sharing your story.

Hey,
Newbie Bitcoin user here, have known of Bitcoin for a while and still regretting everyday I don't buy any (like most other people who are holding off buying them)
I recently found interest in the currency mainly on Reddit but I thought I'd join the forums and get involved, I really want to develop a much broader understanding of how the system works and any simplified info would be great. I'm pretty computer savvy but sometimes reading about Bitcoin just confuses me! But I imagine it just takes getting used to the terminology.
Anyway, nice to be here.

If so, how can a budget conscious miner make any money?
Simple. Mine the more profitable coins and maybe consider a multi-pool: http://coinchoose.com/

I use PayPal (via debit card) to buy BTC all the time using btcQuick.com. You just have to catch them when they have stock.

Just fun thinking out loud. What do you think??
I think probably what will happen is as the coin generation approaches the end, the surviving developers (let's remember that Satoshi has already bailed) will fork Bitcoin to tweak the transaction fees. There will also certainly be other alt currencies in circulation at different levels of maturity. My feeling is that branding and language will play an integral role in this process as more and more coins are developed with the most treasured coins being those with the most treasured names. Are you f***ing serious?? lol.... You do realize that in a year or two, that BTC you just spent is gonna be worth a lot more... congratulations, you just bought a sandwich for $300 LOL!! These stores are smart to accept bitcoins and store as much as they can early on
You are making an assumption that Bitcoin will increase in value over time AND that these stores will save the BTC. This is not a certainty and in my view also not probable. I think the capital that's currently being used to inflate the value of Bitcoin will soon start spilling over into the altcoins. Just take a look at Litecoin's recent move as an example. Heck Max Keiser was even talking up Litecoin yesterday on his show. References:http://rt.com/shows/keiser-report/episode-526-max-keiser-025/http://coinmarketcap.com/

The shit could collapse in the 75-125 range and stay there for a long time. That's the most pessimistic scenario I can think of.
Yeah, that's pretty much a worst case scenerio. I think the next phase will be capital flowing away from Bitcoin and over into the altcoin markets. Yesterday on RT Max Keiser mentioned Litecoin and I see today it's closing in on $10.00. I think it's this episode: http://rt.com/shows/keiser-report/episode-526-max-keiser-025/
