2841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] Based on ethereum. Pre launch (2 days) community involvement. on: August 18, 2015, 03:46:47 AM
I'm not surprised to see projects based on Ethereum coming out.

My question is what new features does this projects presents that Ethereum hasn't already projected?

Great app!
This is sure very helpful. sure can be a good help for someone who has a lot of miners distributed between several pools!

I'm trying it out for sure!
2843  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BTC Mining in College a good idea? on: August 17, 2015, 11:27:33 PM
Well, if you can get your hands on some cheap and silent miners, might be worth trying.
Cause if you put big miners in your dorm you will drive everybody insane from the noise and heat
2844  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Average mining ROI on: August 17, 2015, 10:56:07 PM
Well your math seems to be accurate. however you just forgot a very important detail. The Halving. so, considering bitcoin mining rewards will drop to half if someone starts mining at this point, the possible outcome would be to never reach ROI...
2845  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Advcash | a new "anonymous" prepaid card [Recharge it with bitcoin] [USD & EUR] on: August 17, 2015, 07:40:34 PM
ADVCash is a great solution...on the paper.
My colleague and I tried to withdraw money from our Stripe account to ADV. The first time the money hardly arrived after a couple weeks. Second time, after we changed all the infos to put the same as ADV's bank account, we got the confirmation by Stripe (with all proof) that the money rightly arrived 3 days after. We're still waiting for the funds to be credited, 15 days after....

Because ADV looks legit and I really like their solution (and the Mastercard works great!) I tried to personally wire 300,00€ from my personal bank account to theirs. Almost one week after and i'm still waiting for funds.  Huh

They're not professional yet, although we believe in their solution!  Roll Eyes

Joss

I find it very strange for you to be creating an account just be making this post.

I made my card a few weeks ago and it has been working perfectly. of course I just recharge it with bitcoin.

I seriously hope this company can work perfectly and that they solve your issue. Probably some type of transactions aren't working so well!
2846  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Announcement] ArBit - An Open Source Bitcoin Arbitrage Bot on: August 17, 2015, 07:33:49 PM
I guess you could make this available for other digital currencies as well...

It would be very good to have this to trade with LTC or Ether!

I find it great to see a fellow writer with such an endeavour  Cool

I find the title "Borderless Money: How Bitcoin Will Bring About the End of the Nation State Era" to a very good title and one that stands by what Bitcoin is all about!
2848  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Promoting a Bitcoin business on: August 17, 2015, 04:42:24 PM
Hey there,

I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable posting to a newbie section since I'm far from being a newbie with Bitcoin, but I need some advice.

I've recently started a Bitcoin business and want to know what's the best way of promoting a newly established Bitcoin store? Buying paid ads is not an option - most prices are unreasonable for a start-up, deliver no guarantee and I'd be much happier paying affiliates for their referral links instead. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks!

You can try to promote through social networks: Twitter, facebook and reddit.

For twitter you need to start to follow crypto related profiles and get some appropriate followers.
For facebook, you'll need to connect with the right groups.
As for Reddit. if your business will deal with other cryptos you better advertise it through /r/cryptocurrency

and you can start a signature campaign in the forum...
2849  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: August 17, 2015, 03:18:34 PM
I usually go for Blockchain.info or Blocktrail.com. This last one is a real great tool to someone who wants to access some statistical data!

Explaining Bitcoin and digital currencies to my Grandparents can be a really difficult mission.

I have tried and today they already some kind of idea of what it is... but they sure didn't undestand it...
2851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make Bitcoin transactions untraceable? on: August 17, 2015, 01:07:18 PM
Nowadays we already know that Bitcoin is not completely anonymous.

Bitcoin is a private currency rather than anonymous currency, and that's why there is an arms race to see what will be the altcoin who will occupy BTC's place has a anonymous crypto.

However there are ways to make the btc transactions anonymous if you use the Bitcoinmixer...
2852  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which bitcoin wallet is the safest and the most convenient? on: August 17, 2015, 12:53:49 PM
You have several good wallets to use:

Blockchain, Ninki, micellium, multibit etc.

but if you want a real bullet proof wallet you should use a paper wallet or a Trezor wallet!
2853  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage on GitHub: ~2% monthly return, market-neutral long/short on: August 17, 2015, 04:21:20 AM

Just wanted to show you guys the actual output of an arbitrage trade if you are interested. It might help to understand the mechanism. Note that this is a real example with real money.

When we start the software it will first check the balances on all our Bitcoin exchanges. As you can see we don't have any Bitcoin (except a negligible amount on OKCoin) but only USD:

Blackbird Bitcoin Arbitrage
Version 0.0.2
DISCLAIMER: USE THE SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

[ Targets ]
   Spread to enter: 0.20%
   Spread to exit: -0.30%

[ Current balances ]
   Bitfinex:    1,299.15 USD   0.000000 BTC
   OKCoin:      1,318.32 USD   0.000582 BTC
   Bitstamp:    1,237.33 USD   0.000000 BTC
   Kraken:      0.00 USD       0.000000 BTC

After this initialization, the system starts to analyze all the spreads between Bitfinex, OKCoin, Bitstamp and Kraken every five seconds. It's only possible to short sell on Bitfinex and Kraken. The targets are different because the trading fees can vary depending on the exchange.

[ 07/10/2015 16:15:55 ]
   Bitfinex:    293.54 / 293.57
   OKCoin:      295.40 / 295.61

   Kraken/Bitfinex:     -0.19% [target  1.10%, min -0.19%, max -0.19%]

The software will continue to loop every five seconds, until there is an opportunity at 17:46:55: the spread between OKCoin (long) and Bitfinex (short) equals our 1.00% entry target:

[ 07/10/2015 17:46:50 ]
   Bitfinex:    286.67 / 286.87

[ 07/10/2015 17:46:55 ]
   Bitfinex:    286.67 / 286.87
   OKCoin:      283.80 / 283.82
   Bitstamp:    285.94 / 286.49
   Kraken:      285.16 / 287.24
   ----------------------------
   Bitfinex/Kraken:     -0.60% [target  1.10%, min -0.94%, max  0.29%]
   OKCoin/Bitfinex:      1.00% [target  1.00%, min -1.11%, max  1.00%]

[ ENTRY FOUND ]
   Date & Time:       07/10/2015 17:46:55
   Exchange Long:     OKCoin (id 1)
   Exchange Short:    Bitfinex (id 0)
   Fees:              0.20% / 0.20%
   Price Long:        $283.82 (target)
   Price Short:       $286.67 (target)
   Spread:            1.00%
Cash used:         $1,286.16 on each exchange

<OKCoin> Trying to send a "buy" limit order: 4.53@$284.10...

<Bitfinex> Trying to send a "sell" limit order: 4.49@$286.39...
<Bitfinex> Done (order ID: xxx,xxx,xxx)

Waiting for the two orders to be filled...
Done

Now that the orders are filled and that we are in the market, we are looking every five seconds for the spread to pass under our exit limit (-0.30%):

[ 07/10/2015 17:47:05 IN MARKET: Long OKCoin / Short Bitfinex ]
   Bitfinex:    286.54 / 286.85
   OKCoin:      283.80 / 283.82
   Bitstamp:    285.94 / 286.49
   Kraken:      285.16 / 287.24
   ----------------------------
   OKCoin/Bitfinex:      1.07% [target -0.30%, min  1.07%, max  1.07%]

[ 07/10/2015 17:47:10 IN MARKET: Long OKCoin / Short Bitfinex ]
   Bitfinex:    286.58 / 286.82
   OKCoin:      283.86 / 284.10
   Bitstamp:    286.02 / 286.60

   ----------------------------
   OKCoin/Bitfinex:      1.04% [target -0.30%, min  1.04%, max  1.07%]

Then, at 19:04:10 the spread is under the exit limit (-0.32%). We close the two positions and compute the performance:

[ 07/10/2015 19:04:10 IN MARKET: Long OKCoin / Short Bitfinex ]
   Bitfinex:    284.32 / 284.40
   OKCoin:      285.31 / 285.50

New balance on Kraken:          0.00 USD (perf $0.00), 0.000000 BTC

ACTUAL PERFORMANCE: $5.40 (0.21%)

The system can send us an e-mail with our trade:

So we made $5.40 (+0.21%) in about 1 hour and 17 minutes with an exposure of $2,572.32 and no market risk. Note that the $5.40 is the actual profit after fees. To make sure that all the fees are taken into account the $5.40 amount comes from a straight comparison between the Bitcoin accounts (before the trade and after the trade). +0.21% doesn't seem a lot but remember that with this mechanism you don't get any losing trades since the system always waits for the spread to close (which can take days).

We are currently using the parameters enter=0.20% (plus fees, in this example the fees were 0.80%) and exit=-0.30% that are narrower than a few months ago. The reason being that the Bitcoin volatility these weeks is pretty low. The system needs a volatile market so that arbitrage opportunities can occur. As you can see in the following chart the Bitcoin volatility is pretty low these days (~1.86%):

Our hope is that the Bitcoin volatility re-increases so the spreads can be wider again. The volatility is a key factor of success in this kind of strategy.

I hope this post helped you understand the long/short arbitrage mechanism.

This is a great explanation! And an excellent strategy to use when doing arbitrage trading.
I'll be sure to take this in mind.

Do you have plans to offer a bitcoin visa debit card as well?

I wish you had an android app  Undecided

I would like to be able to play it on my android!

you can play betcoin games in your mobile , just download Pufin browser and all will work good
but you can't play WPN games using that

Even the WPN games that are hosted through the Betcoin platform won't work on mobile like that?

yup I guess so unless they did something new with their recent updates
cause couple of months ago I tried Betcoin on mobile , all the games were based with chips (BTCs not USD ) so at that time I couldn't play WPN games using the mob

That's precisely why they need to develop an android application. I've always thought they already had an android app. And if they don't they do need to develop one.

It would be very useful for a lot of players. At least I would use it a lot!

Of course you can! Currently, there are a lot of companies offering that type of service!

I personally use the ADV cash bitcoin prepaid debit card and I'm pretty happy with it!

You can eve ask for a card at Bitstamp!
