2841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Do you prefer your money to be in cash or bitcoins? on: May 27, 2016, 01:34:12 PM
I don't want my salary to be paid fully in Bitcoin as the value is very volatile right now and this will make me very uncomfortable. I am still not married but if I had a family of my own I would definitely opt to get paid fully in fiat because people would depend on me and I wouldn't dare to jeopardize my family's financial stability by avoiding fiat completely and going all-in on the Bitcoin bandwagon. Of course I could earn a lot of money if the price 'goes to the Moon' in the future but anything could happen and our expectations may not materialize so to be honest I would hold like 30% in Bitcoins and 70% in fiat of my total net worth.
2842  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin at $475 on bitstamp!! on: May 27, 2016, 12:59:31 PM
Yay a $30 jump overnight not bad eh?  Cheesy I didn't check the price this morning but apparently it's really there and we have passed the $475 mark guys! I think this price increase is just a small pre-pump and the real major pump before the halving hasn't started yet. If people cash out their alt coin investments and buy back into Bitcoin I guess the value of the alt coins will substantially decrease and we will see a lot of angry Ethereum bag holders complaining on the forum in the next 40 days or so  Grin I would recommend holding your Bitcoins at least till the end of the year because anything could happen to the price of Bitcoin with a market so volatile. Better to hold than be sorry later on  Wink
2843  Other / Off-topic / Re: Steady Way To earn Bitcoin Online... on: May 27, 2016, 08:13:15 AM
Bitcoin trading and Bitcoin gambling are not steady ways of earning Bitcoin at all. Bitcoin gambling depends on luck and if you are not lucky enough you may lose your money easily during a bad run. It's true that one can earn the most with gambling as the potential positive EV yields the most profit in the shortest time possible but if you are gambling to pay your bills and not for fun you will be in trouble real soon. Also there are people who can earn a pretty decent chunk of money with Bitcoin trading but this also depends on luck and not just skills so I would say don't try this unless you are very, very experienced with trading in general. The most secure way of earning Bitcoin online would be to sell your skills and services to buyers who need your expertise for different projects. Freelancing or starting your own Bitcoin business online would be the best option in my honest opinion.
2844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your money aim? At which point you would go in "retire"? on: May 27, 2016, 07:52:33 AM
What is my money aim? Well all I need from this life is an own house, a paid-for car and probably enough money to go on vacations abroad every other year and also most importantly not to be cash-strapped so I could buy average things priced reasonably and I wouldn't need to budget my expenses. This may sound like a lot of requirements but in reality I don't want to be rich or anything I just want to live a normal life. Now I don't know where the price of Bitcoin will take us in 2 or 3 decades from now, but if I manage to sell off my stash of coins for say $300k I would be very happy from a financial perspective. I am not planning to retire early as I am content with my day job and I would use that extra money from Bitcoin to fulfill my dreams and achieve things on my bucket list  Wink
2845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal chargeback concerns for Bitcoin related transaction is a myth on: May 27, 2016, 07:37:51 AM
I think PayPal tends to side with the buyers usually because of their buyers protection policy but for digital goods and services it's a little bit tricky as PayPal doesn't want to review disputes where there are intangible goods involved. This is not uncommon for fiat purchases of digital products as well because PayPal simply don't want to mess with dubious cases where the outcome is uncertain and they will need to drag these investigations for months. If you are the one scammed for paying PayPal in exchange for Bitcoins and the payee didn't deliver the coins I think PayPal won't consider your dispute and your only option would be to inform your bank directly about this bad transaction and see if they could do anything to reverse it otherwise you are simply out of luck.
2846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin Multipliers - Are any legitimate? on: May 27, 2016, 06:51:31 AM
I would stay as far away as possible from these investment programs. These websites might pay out some users in the beginning to appear trustworthy but as more people invest money hoping to turn a quick profit the operators can close shop when they feel they have accumulated enough cash and run for the hills with everyone's money. The more improbable their interest rates are the more likely it's that they are going to scam you. Just take with a big grain of salt whatever promises they have written on the websites and only put money at risk that you can afford to lose.
2847  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is worse - Losing all your btc to slots, dice, etc? on: May 27, 2016, 06:34:07 AM
You could add 'poker' to your poll options I guess as a fair amount of gamblers here on the forum play poker for Bitcoins as well. Personally I have spent the most of my Bitcoins on sportsbetting and it's always a very bad feeling when you lose on picks you have been very confident in just because the teams performed disappointingly bad but that's normal for gambling as you need some luck to be successful with your bets. The most important factor to avoid losing all your coins to whatever game you are playing is to maintain a proper bankroll and never put all of your coins on a single bet as this is the main reason a lot of gamblers chase losses and lose even more money in the process and end up with compulsive gambling issues which are very hard to brush off later on.
2848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now PayPal is getting a patent on Bitcoin stuff on: May 26, 2016, 07:21:58 PM
Okay so I have gathered from all the information posted here that PayPal wants to create a hardware wallet and a debit card that connect to a virtual currency wallet. I guess PayPal being in control of the accounts will make this whole system strongly centralized and on top of that the PayPal alt coin if I can call it that will be reversible and disputes will actually be permitted. I don't think the Bitcoin community would be happy with these circumstances as this goes against the Bitcoin motto of freedom and decentralization. But I guess this new coin would appeal to merchants and service providers for doing business online. I think the chances of PayPal accepting Bitcoin directly in their system are slim, it's more likely that they are banking on the Blockchain technology itself.
2849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not use USB sticks for long term storage! Its not safe! on: May 26, 2016, 04:33:17 PM
What about hardware USB wallets? Since it is USB based, it has to be regularly plugged in?

I am not completely sure what will happen to the data on the device if it's been left unpowered for months or even years but assuming that Bitcoin hardware wallets have the same flash memory like in ordinary thumb drives it's possible that the data may be lost if you haven't used it once for years. To feel more safe you could just create backups of the private keys of your Bitcoin hardware wallet on laminated pieces of paper and keep them in addition to the hardware device and if the hardware malfunctions you could always restore your Bitcoins by using the paper backups. It's never a good idea to put all of your eggs in one basket.
2850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is it to store your bitcoins on a mobile phone? on: May 26, 2016, 03:55:32 PM
Guys I think it's better to focus our attention on where we are keeping our private keys to the Bitcoin wallets we are using and how secure the place where we are keeping them is. We need to take into consideration that it doesn't matter on which device we have our Bitcoins as long as the private keys are in a secure environment. Storing our Bitcoin on a laptop rather than on our smartphone doesn't mean that it will be automatically 100% more secure because our laptop's storage device may die or a power surge can destroy its components while charging etc. We need to make sure that in an unfortunate event like this we have back up copies at hand to log into any other Bitcoin wallet and restore our funds. We are not talking about cold storage here, we are trying to secure the coins on mobile devices we use for actual Bitcoin transactions daily and the first step is to back up our private keys and keep them safe off the device and not keep copies on the device  Wink
2851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For any crypto-coins to have long term future, you need an ecosystem around it on: May 26, 2016, 03:34:40 PM
I don't think any other alt coin will be able to emulate the success and ecosystem Bitcoin has achieved till now. Bitcoin has the chance to become an established and globally recognized digital currency and a lot of respectable companies worldwide are already making efforts to accept it as a means of conducting business in their infrastructures. Do we need any other alt coins at all and for what? I guess only speculators and traders are interested in dealing with alt coins and people use them to get a quick profit with pump and dump schemes that will essentially render the value volatile and I guess serious businesses would not want to integrate something so inconsistent in their systems. Bitcoin, although not perfect, can function perfectly fine for what's required by commerce and I don't see how alt coins will make it even close to what Bitcoin can offer to online & offline businesses.
2852  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bank or Bitcoin Wallet? on: May 25, 2016, 09:09:12 PM
And how much did you pay in fees for that Payexchanger service? I didn't know about them till now so I decided to check out their fees and apparently to exchange 1 Bitcoin to Skrill you will lose 37$ and then I am guessing you have to pay again Skrill fees to get your cash out of there plus you need to pay ATM fees when you are withdrawing in your country. I wonder why you have gone through all that hassle when you could have just done a SEPA transfer to your bank account for a lot less in fees anyways. I guess you live in the European Union and this is maybe the cheapest way around to exchanging Bitcoin back to fiat.
2853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Does it have a POSITIVE IMPACT on your life? on: May 25, 2016, 08:54:45 PM
I am not an early adopter nor am I a crypto mining enthusiast and Bitcoin at first was just a fun experiment for me trying out different wallets and exploring how to do stuff properly then it became more or less a hobby of mine and nowadays I can get a little profit off Bitcoin which is amazing considering how much time I have spent on the Internet doing absolutely nothing productive. I don't expect to get rich with Bitcoin and it hasn't radically changed my life but having a little bit of pocket money doesn't hurt either while using a cutting-edge technology for making online transactions.
2854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ready for bitcoin halving? on: May 25, 2016, 07:49:00 PM
Well I am as ready as I will ever be I guess Cheesy Bitcoin is expected to increase in price after the halving but don't hold your breath though because it may take a while to see any significant price increase. Personally it doesn't matter a lot to me as I am into Bitcoin for the long haul and I don't plan to sell my coins any time soon and I hope my Bitcoin stash will stay intact until the next halving in 2020. I think it's probably the biggest mistake to sell off most of your coins in the next few months because it's very uncertain where the price is heading to.
2855  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to stay away from gambling? suggestions ? on: May 25, 2016, 02:06:42 PM
I think there is no need to cancel your Internet subscription just to avoid excessive online gambling. A simple solution to this problem would be to get your accounts blocked so you couldn't gamble on them for 6 months or more. You can usually do this yourself or ask a customer support to ban you from making bets. You can also blacklist any popular gambling websites you are often visiting on your browser so you can't access them while surfing the net. You need to be motivated to drop that gambling habit and canceling your Internet connection won't make things better because you can always continue gambling offline .
2856  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do you like slot games ? on: May 25, 2016, 07:15:49 AM
I don't play slot games often only on occasion when I don't want to gamble seriously and I am just playing for fun. I know the odds on slot games are horrendous and the house edge is huge but I have always liked the big jackpot prizes they put out for us to win. I sometimes try my luck on slot games on the weekends or when I am on holiday and I remember one Christmas I was very close to hitting one of the big jackpot prize slot games and there was that final wheel of fortune that I had to spin but unfortunately I didn't get the right combination to win in the end. So for me slot games are just 100% mindless fun that doesn't hurt once in a while  Cheesy

2858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is doing something on Bitcoin Pizza Day? May 22nd, 2016 on: May 22, 2016, 06:51:30 AM
Yay today is May 22 and I have not forgotten about the Bitcoin Pizza day  Cheesy It's Sunday and I have a lot of free time today so I will call some friends and make sure we go out to have some tasty pizza together and drink some beers in the afternoon. I wish a happy Bitcoin Pizza day to everyone who wants to 'celebrate' today Grin
2859  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How many people are going to stop mining because of Block Halving? on: May 22, 2016, 06:43:05 AM
Are you talking about the mining operations in Iceland by any chance? I think they have maybe the biggest mining farm in Europe? About the miners exiting the scene after the Halving starts, well the thing with the raising difficulty is that when miners quit hashing power is subtracted from the total difficulty so it goes down according to how many have left and it goes up again when new people join in to mine coins. There is a constant balance between the miners and the actual difficulty so we don't need every single Bitcoin miner in the world to keep the Bitcoin network running efficiently. Also I don't think the price is supposed to go down if some miners have no more incentive to continue mining due to high electricity costs.
2860  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: what site you created your first wallet? on: May 22, 2016, 06:31:57 AM
I think almost everyone has created a Blockchain wallet when they were starting out to use Bitcoin for the first time. My first ever wallet was also a Blockchain wallet because it was recommended as very user friendly to Bitcoin novices. I am still using online wallets to this day but now I mostly prefer to use mobile Bitcoin wallets because they are more convenient when I am on the go. Anyway I would recommend checking out the Blockchain wallet to anyone who wants to get started with Bitcoin.
