This is so childish it's beyond belief. /r/bitcoin is for discussions (which are not being banned), but not for promoting software that would split bitcoin in two. Most people in /r/bitcoin has zero idea of the implications XT would cause and going apeshit over their own incompetence.

Vertcoin changed algo AGAIN ? Because of ipominer's botnet (well not their botnet, but they seem to work hand in hand with them), and the fact that cpumining was effectively as efficient as GPU mining. The new adjusted algo favours GPUs quite considerably. It's nice the VTC team is at least trying and it worked for now ( https://www.ipominer.com/stats?curr=vtc) but I don't think it will do long term. The botnet is probably already on a private pool, if not, it will be soon. ipominer is the private pool of the botnet... (just need to read the lame excuses he gave, he even most likely the operator of the botnet;D) and it doesn't matter anymore because gpu/cpu ratio is much more favorable to the gpu... even if he comes back, it won't be raping the coin like he did... I know, I was the one bringing attention to it. But botnets this size can easily mine GPU coins as well for great profit.

What is the vertcoin.conf solo miners setup? Can someone please post?
Just like any other coin's conf you just have to use a different rpcport. Ok ty - does anyone know the current vertcoin rpcport? Is it 9332? There are no fixed rpcports for different coins, it doesn't matter which one you use as long as it's the same port you set your miner to try to connect to. VERTCOIN INFO-- I pulled some stuff off of CoinWarz.com: P2P Port: 5889 RPC Port: 5888 Blocks: 348,052 Network Hashrate: 6.82 GH/s Vertcoin Difficulty: 207.5611 The ports changed from the earlier scrypt-N days (9332). I don't really know if the ports above are for Lyra2RE, or Lyra2v2. I suggest looking at Vertcoin on the CoinWarz site, and clicking on the Vertcoin icon when you find it in the list. That will take you to a detailed info page, and you can navigate from there to a profit calculator web-app just for Vertcoin. Should be what you need. --scryptr Remote procedure call port has nothing to do with the coin as long as another one is not using it actively. P2p port is just recommended but not necessary, you'll still connect to other peers.

You seem to hover around a lot of topics but let me take a stab at answering/projecting my opinion.
First off, people should only ever invest as much as they are willing to lose. Secondly, I think your approach of going after scammers via every available channel (blockchain tracking, agencies) is flat out wrong and inefficient for several reasons. Let me start by saying that even though scamming is indeed rampant in crypto circles, everything that scammers can do in crypto is being done with FIAT on a daily basis as well. Cryptocurrencies are nothing but a tool that can be used for both good and bad. Same goes for FIAT regardless of government influence. Scams, frauds ands drug deals are going down everyday with USD so we really shouldn't expect anything else in crypto.
Regarding double your money schemes; it should be always obvious that these sites have a pyramid-scheme type of structure. And there's nothing wrong with pyramid schemes as long as the site is straightforward about it becasue they are simply just a form of gambling just like dice games or many others.
Long cons, cyber thiefs and whatnot; it's exactly the same as the FIAT world, so why should we treat cryptos differently? I mean you can get hacked or you can get robbed at gunpoint there really isn't much of a difference from safety perspective.
It's also worth nothing that cryptocurrencies are international and there isn't a single agency that has jurisdiction over the whole crypto scene. And I'm happy that it is the case as I don't want to rely an any agency because as we all know every single entitiy with authority is subject to corruption.
So really, all the agencies you have mentioned only provide a false sense of security for people who don't know any better - which is why I think your approach is wrong.
So what I think is more important is to educate people in crypto about what they can and cannot expect and how to defend themselves. People know not to walk in shady streets at night with all their money in their pockets and similarily people should also know they shouldn't trust other people in crypto and should also take the necessary precautions to keep them safe because at the end of the day the only reason scams exist is because they are profitbale due to people not knowing any better.

My cards: GTX 970 = 10Mh/s, overclocked @1440MHz, TDP limited to 150W GTX 980 = 10.9Mh/s, overclocked @1420MHz, TDP limited to 150W In comparison, GTX 980 doesn't score so well my 980's do 12MH/s you are doing something wrong If both a 970 and 980 is limited to 150W it's no wonder they're going to be pretty close in performance. So I have been mining Vertcoin since around 8:00am this morning on verterspool. I found (2) blocks and earned about 42 coins. Would you recommend that I solo mine or stay with the big pools? What are my chances of finding a block solo? Do you think it is better to mine with the pool in general? Just looking for advice. Tks - pokeytex
depends of your hashrate, but probably not. About 80mh/s With current difficulty (189) you should hit a block every 2.7 hours on average or ~8.8 blocks a day. That is if the difficulty wouldn't rise, but it does.

good idea, I like it. Lot's of over engineered solutions everywhere, sometimes the best answer is just to simplify existing tools
Over engineered, can you please describe Sidechains and masternodes maybe?

It's just gambling. The only problem with pyramid schemes if people don't know about it or don't even know what it means.

WINDOWS KILL--
The problem I had when I was attempting to use the YAAMP protocol for auto switching was that an error message from Windows would pop up and interrupt the batch file. Although I disabled Error Reporting, Windows would still send the alert and interrupt the batch file. Manual interaction was required, mining stopped.
Currently, I do everything manually. I left-click the red X at the top right of the window, and close ccminer. If I use ctrl-c, there is a chance of the degradation problem. --scryptr
The popup error comes from werfault.exe (windows error reporting) so having an independent bat loop killing it every few seconds solves that issue: :start title werfault killer cls timeout -t 3 taskkill -t -f /im werfault.exe goto start

All that is going on with Ethereum should have been done on testnet. Handicapping a coin by introducing a financial aspect (livenet) for a coin that is so inconvenient to use is either silly or deliberate to scam people.

RESTORING DRIVER--
I use PrecisionX 16 to restore the driver without rebooting the system. These are my steps for a card on Windows that has low hash (crashed driver):
1) Start or re-open PrecisionX 16. 2) Turn off K-Boost with the toggle switch (upper right-and corner). 3) Turn on K-Boost with the same toggle switch. 4) Re-select the boost profile that you prefer (important!). 5) Verify that the fan profile and boost settings are again in place, and that temperature is appropriate. 6) Close or minimize PrecisionX 16. 7) Restart miner, it should again have appropriate hash readings for boost/overclock settings.
You may also have to open nVidia control panel and reset the display resolution if your graphics now "look odd". It isn't every time, but frequently I have to reset display resolution for normal graphics. This is for my work computer, Win 7 X64, with a GTX 960 that I mine with when not playing games. The GTX 960 will get 10.6Mh/s on Quark, but if it crashes with a segmentation fault, it will only get 3Mh/s on miner restart. I then perform the steps above and restart the miner.
There is a memory leak somewhere, but I was suspecting poorly programmed flash-media websites, like my local news site. I need to reboot about once a day because of increasing memory bloat. --scryptr
I'm using an ancient ccminer so I'm not sure about the issue but it does sound like a simple soft crash to me when the card reverts back to lower P state with 405 Mhz. That is how my cards crash if I have too high OC on them or set too high intensity or accidentaly mine on the same card with 2 instances. Memory leak would imply a leak of some sort causing excess memory usage and/or slow performance degradation over time.

Clickbait article.
What we know: "A spokeswoman for Barclays said the bank was looking at a number of blockchain technologies both internally and through partners, but would not comment on anything in particular at this stage. UBS said something similar."
What they claim: "A source from Barclays told IBTimes that they [Ethereum] are front-runners [...]"
Yeah, right.

Bit off topic but in GPU-Z there's an ASIC quality estimation tool and I checked all of my GPUs and it seems there is a correlation between the estimated quality and overclocking capabilities. It apparently takes into account the voltage requires to operate and some other factors to generate a number that doesn't change with overclock or anything. Higher ASIC quality cards require less voltage to operate and they also naturally boost higher and can take the most OC without overvolting. So I started incrementally overclocking all cards in a rig with 6 x Asus non-6-pin cards which had a wide spectrum of ASIC quality (62.7% 69.4% 70.6% 70.7% 72% 80.6%) and sure enough the highest quality was the last to crash by a large margin. Here's a picture showing how to check it. ( source)My highest card is a Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti Windforce with 83.8% and my lowest is my main card I'm not mining with but kept for the occasional gaming with 66.6% which is a 780 Ti and it overclocks absolutely terribly. The average of all my cards is 75%. So ideally cards should be overclocked based on these figures for maximizing efficiency and stability. High quality high end cards might even have a decent value for enthusiast gamers.

They probably don't care about mining and rendering and other CUDA calculations might even improved.
the funny thing is - they originally built cuda to spearhead the 'render farm' movie niche and scientific market that was wide open a little while ago ... why would they screw things up now? ... you are probably right though - they dont care about mining and the rest of the community :| ... #crysx We should probably make them more aware of the mining community. To add to my previous comment:
