2841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can somebody tell me what is the name of the company behind Etherscan.io? on: December 21, 2020, 11:57:33 PM
They have a map of where their developers are from:

And some info on the about us page of the core team: https://etherscan.io/aboutus

2842  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Avoid speculating on the BTC/USD rate on: December 21, 2020, 11:46:49 PM
Are you trying to sell or trying to speculate?

I've only heard "put option" be used in terms of speculation.

Why are you wanting to avoid volatility? If you're wanting fixed amounts in fiat you need to be paid fixed amounts in fiat... If you're just worried you'll get less funds then I wouldn't be if I were you unless there's a large crash you probably wouldn't notice the difference. €2000 with a crash of say €4000 on the market price doesn't actually look too much different when you withdraw it.
2843  Economy / Speculation / Re: We're almost half way to 100x (250k) on: December 21, 2020, 11:33:37 PM
Not to be bitter on having these kind of numbers but if we do consider on how big the marketcap would be on reaching 250k then i dont know on what would be the situation in terms of comparison
of Bitcoin and with the top fiat currencies when it comes to value and also to others.

The £ sterling has a market cap of around $3tr+. Btc valued at $300k is $6.3tr, I don't think it's beyond reach. If it happens it'd be a nice fuck you to Amazon too Grin. But we can expect a colossal crash, 80%+ again I reckon.

There is marginal fluctuation happening with the price. People are observing the market closely. The market that fell will grow, because the ending days of year used to make a big price rise. In comparison to the ath value the price has dropped little. Maybe this corrective fluctuation is for a large scale price pumping. $250k is beyond imagination, but can experience the reality within next five years of time.

I avoid posting this sort of information until we're in a bead period. I don't want to influence gambling but rather confidence to holders and buyers near the top.

We always must boil over before going higher (for the healthiest move) ...

$150,000 is definitely possible & to be honest I’d say likely at some point in the next 12-18 months. With the way traditional investments are performing, low & possibly negative interest rates, constant fiat money printing etc bitcoin is a very attractive asset.

Nothing seems to correlate with each other in the stock market either and we normally recover fairly fast after a crisis - this time we've taken longer in most places.

I think we need to see some sort of start to an economic boom or a lot of developments in crypto (even defi becoming more stable and offering better interest rates than banks and most places).
2844  Economy / Speculation / We're almost half way to 100x (250k) on: December 21, 2020, 07:16:13 PM
In 2018 we saw drops down to ~2900 and recently we dropped to around $4000, we're now already 600% up from the $4000 figure. I don't see $250k being completely out of reach by now, since an extra move as big as we've seen ever the past few months would take us to $120k.

(This is just a curious evaluation I don't want anyone trading based on this alone - it's normally not the best time to buy when everyone's bullish or if it is it's riskier to do).
2845  Economy / Speculation / Re: How Degenerate is it buying and sitting on PayPal Bitcoin ? on: December 21, 2020, 06:49:59 PM
From what I remember funds stored in paypal aren't insured like they are in a bank account. It shouldn't be used to store anything that you aren't happy losing.

Also if you can't transfer it out then that looks very shady, even if it is now physically backed. And everything you buy from them is giving them a profit if they already had reserves you're buying. There must be a reason they're doing it now 🤔.
2846  Economy / Speculation / Re: Covid 2.0 UK has suffered massively and BTC is dropping on: December 21, 2020, 11:43:13 AM
The vaccine is yet to be tested against the new strain. Pfisers could see issues with the new strain since they picked a part of the structure that has now mutated (though its likely the old vaccine will still work - just requires testing).

Most of the new virus is in the south East because they didn't lockdown fast enough and that's the government's, their local government and their own fault.
2847  Economy / Economics / Re: A reward system for Covid Free people.... on: December 21, 2020, 11:14:23 AM
I caught covid after following the government guidelines. I think most government guidelines are the problem tbh.

Also this sort of payment requires a regular thing and also stops people wanting to get tested.
2848  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Recover Electrum 2.6.3 address from broken Windows on: December 21, 2020, 02:19:49 AM
If you've got a full intact seed then it should work with the new version of electrum. There's likely a problem with your seed, how many words does it have in it?

Also do you know an address within the wallet?

Also portable electrum puts the wallet data in the same folder as the app you run (folder should be called electrum_data).
2849  Other / Meta / Re: When (or was) the Bitcointalk database hacked? Was it in 2016 ? on: December 20, 2020, 06:34:53 PM
I have a feeling it was before I got here so early 2015 but I think there was one in 2013 too.

I changed my email a while ago just in case too (while = ~4 years).
2850  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies account upgrade on: December 20, 2020, 05:58:26 PM
You could always buy a copper membership: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

Or just wait to earn merit.
2851  Other / Politics & Society / Re: THE RICH VS THE POOR. Societal Evaluation. on: December 19, 2020, 07:47:12 PM
work hard to be the Rich someday.

That statement is situational...

If you have Internet, you're in a 50% group of the world. If you speak English you're in 25%, if you can write it you're in 20% (all estimates).

The problems stem from telling people "you'll be rich if you just put the effort in". If this was the case, why are degrees other than the highest profit ones for the government offered to students? Why support English, accounting etc when you could force everyone to do an economics/maths/physics/computing degree where people can graduate and get a much higher level of employment.

Moral of the story: give up once you can "comfortably" live within your means and stop chasing an invisible dragon you probably won't find.
2852  Economy / Economics / Re: Tether's market cap is huge! (usdt) on: December 19, 2020, 07:15:09 PM
I dont think you have to be worry at this point...maybe you are right in some points but you must not forget that tether is already on of the strongst coin in the crypto market and even if somthing bad will happen to usdt will not happen suddenly

Do you understand the concept of a market crash? Why wouldn't it suddenly crash and even if it slowly went down at what pijbt would you sell? 90 cents, 80, 50 (having lost hope it'll rebound).

Worryingly, this means that at least some of the cryptocurrency users are holding their wealth in Tether, rather than using it solely for trading. It is just like holding your coins in exchange wallets.

On its own, it doesn't.

The volume reported on cmc is 5x the available usdt. Assuming this ignores futures on exchanges then there might jot be many holders of usdt and some holders might be companies like binance also where users have set stop losses/buys (in both directions).

2853  Economy / Economics / Re: why the US put all the exporting countries in the US market on the list of sanct on: December 19, 2020, 04:14:58 AM
The idea of adding sanctions to countries that export to US trade markets is a way to ensure the other traders have an inherent disadvantage. Whether it works or not is another question.

Some trade sanctions were placed to ensure home grown innovation and production can thrive though ensuring a higher demand for working class and middle class workers (low skilled, skilled and highly skilled staff).

If you can buy something from a company in the US for $6 that Europe sells for $5 including delivery but is then slapped with a 100% tariff, you'd probably stick with the $6 one.

The reason I say some of them may not have worked would be with things like high tariffs on aeroplanes, which could take stock away from the US and mean more planes are registered in Europe., the UAE, Canada etc.
2854  Other / Meta / Re: Can't post images on: December 18, 2020, 11:21:21 PM
You either have to become a higher rank or buy a copper membership

Alternatively you could ask someone to quote your post so it posts the images in the post below yours.
2855  Economy / Economics / Re: People who know economy talk about usa dollar on: December 18, 2020, 11:13:31 PM
Sounds a bit rash. A lot of index funds "balanced against the world" but 50-75% of their fund allotment into the US. This'll have to change and another country will have to rise up but this country will have to attract investors (eg not have an authoritarian or considered authoritarian government). There aren't many countries in that have some sort of democratic system that are normally more trusted by investors.
2856  Economy / Economics / Re: Tether's market cap is huge! (usdt) on: December 18, 2020, 11:02:19 PM

that's reasonable. unfortunately for me, USDT is the only liquid stablecoin on some of the exchanges i use. USDC just isn't big enough yet. Sad

I can't use usdt on coinbase (they only have usdc and dai for most European investors - dunno if its different elsewhere).  Binance have put in efforts to list EVERYTHING THEY CAN FIND. that looks like a safe enough stablecoin. If a lot of people use coinbase when they come to crypto then I think usdc liquidity might see a rapid increase (which it should be able to absorb).

I don't fully trust USDT but I still use it anyway since top exchanges like binance have confident using the stable coin, there is no exchanges that failed to list USDT on their platform as I know, all I can advice is to always keep small amount of money in USDT or other stable coins, nothing is guaranteed in this space

A wise person might consider this shady practice. You can find spring water in vending machines priced at £1.50 but the free fountain next to it or any tap may produce the same type of water (the US sources a lot of bottled spring water from taps, Europe sources a lot of its tap water from springs Wink ).
2857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with Bitcoin Core Transaction on: December 18, 2020, 09:41:06 PM
When did you send the transaction, do you know what fee you are using, and is core fully synced?

Can you right click the transaction and get it's transaction ID and post it here?
2858  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need help posting this on: December 18, 2020, 04:21:38 PM
What services are you trying to offer? Is it exchanging funds (eg btc to usd)?

Can you not hold them yourself and sell/buy directly without trusting a middleman?
2859  Economy / Economics / Tether's market cap is huge! (usdt) on: December 18, 2020, 04:07:58 AM
I was scrolling through cmc and I didn't realise until now that tether has the 4th highest market cap at ~$20bn. This feels like a really high risk asset and that's probably reflected in it having a 5x market cap daily trading volume.

It's probably just something to take note of that if it isn't physically backed and we see massive volatile moves then don't trust it to peg the dollar especially if it keeps getting a higher and higher pool of funds that are thought to control it (its a shame a lot of sites use it in futures).
2860  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a very special market service provider on: December 18, 2020, 03:36:48 AM

Well why not create a thread and state your intention about buying some particular coin which you think beneficial to you since I think this is the only way to buy without touching anything on orderbook. And maybe there are hodler out there will sell off their coins since as you said it have a zero daily volume and it's somehow a good exit for bag holders if you buy those coin from them.

I think these hodlers will say to themselves: mmmhh he wants to buy a max ? so he knows something ... so something is going to happen ... so I'm not selling Smiley

Yeah it's probably also unlikely a large holder of the coin will even notice them too... And if they do you run the risk of accidentally pumping the coin too and making it more expensive for yourself by making a public listing.

Thanks, I'd say that is usually a good advice. However I want to be as stealth as possible in accumulating, so I rather try avoiding to contact anyone official. And I assume they would point me to an exchange anyway, since the coin is already listed for years.

I don't think there's another solution though unless you can track the owners of addresses on a block explorer and deanonymise them to send them a pm/email but that seems intrusive...
