2861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Native lightning Bitcoin payments by card are faster than visa/mastercard on: August 26, 2022, 04:50:16 AM
Yeah, the difference in speed basically is negligible because in the end both card payments are making an internet request, and that means that sometimes one will be faster than the other and sometimes the opposite.

The main point is that you're not using a centralized system to make the payment, you're using your own sats directly, natively, in the same way that you would use a credit card, just tapping.

There are no banks or exchanges needed to pay, just your own lightning node. I think this is a great improvement in terms of usability of Bitcoin.

And the merchant in this case gets the sats immediately, with virtually no fees. In comparison, credit card companies take days to pay and charge quite a bit for each transaction.

This basically connects the seller with the buyer directly, from one lightning node to another. Game changer.

Gamble just for fun and dont ever intend to have that kind of mindset that you could really make yourself rich with gambling and since you dont have that kind of capital
then this is the time you would be considering on taking up a loan and make use of it and believe that you could really be able to pull off some wins which is really totally wrong.
Its true that its none of our business if ever we do make out decisions on taking up some loan for some purposes which is totally right but it is really just cant able to avoid
not to make out some words or to say up against it specially if we are aware on where those funds would be gonna used.

One of the issues with problem gamblers is that part of the fun is the idea that they will become rich by gambling, that's the whole point.

And the thing is that some people actually have become rich by gambling, like Australian professional gambler David Walsh.

But even he has said that it's all just luck and feels a bit bad about the whole thing, so he created the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) with the profits of his gambling.

What strategy do you think, will lead to the maximum profits? (Variance and RTP of each slot also determine the way that you are supposed to play on the different slots)

Let's discuss.....  Wink

Well, technically speaking since the expected value of gambling is negative then the maximum profit strategy would be to not play at all, but where's the fun in that?  Grin

Instead of maximizing profits, I prefer to maximize fun, so if I'm in a casino I would just put a bit of money in a slot machine, and play until the money runs out or until I win. If I get bored I'll just go all in and leave after whatever happens next.
2864  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should Employers Screen Applicants for Problem Gambling Before Employment? on: August 26, 2022, 01:47:58 AM
~snip~
I'd like to know your thoughts -  Do you think that employers should screen potential employees for problem gambling before employment?

I don't think employers should do any kind of problem gambling tests or similar, unless the job is at a casino or something.

There are many ways in which things can go wrong when you hire someone, not just problem gamblers, and you can't possibly test the employee for everything.

You need to have a proper face to face assessment of the person and see if he or she is able to do the job and if you're willing to trust that person. That's pretty much it. It's a bit of a gamble to hire someone, but that's part of being a human, it's a human relationship in the end.

I have to agree with you, as since 2019 I have seen news that Bayern would be looking for another goalkeeper to replace Neuer after his retirement, but that never happens. In fact news about Neuer's retirement dates back to 2016.
But, on the contrary... Neuer is still active and being one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Regarding injuries, goalkeepers have a low risk for this, one more reason to believe that Neuer will continue for a few more years.

Yeah, goalkeepers tend to have a longer career because they are not as physically active in the entire 90 minutes of every match. I'm still surprised to see many players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi still at almost their peak even though they are pretty old for football standards. I guess science and technology these days help to keep them active for longer.
2866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Native lightning Bitcoin payments by card are faster than visa/mastercard on: August 26, 2022, 12:59:28 AM
At a cafe in Gibraltar two people paid for their coffees, one with a Bolt Card and one with a legacy card.

You can see the video in the original tweet. You will see that the lightning payment is done faster than the legacy payment, and both are done in the same way, just tapping a card.

The Bolt Card is basically an NFC card with a NTAG424DNA chip, which provides better security than normal NFC cards (prevents replay attacks), and also comes with nice designs. You can also just buy blank NFC cards with that chip as well, but the Bolt Cards are probably cheaper and look better anyway.

How it works is that basically you write a LNURL withdraw link into the card, the checkout reads the NFC card, processes the link and gets the bitcoin. You can manage your cards with open source: boltcard server, and the NFC programming app.

This is really great because people will now be able to use Bitcoin directly, with no middle-men. Note that this is not a credit card linked to an exchange, this is a card that spends your sats directly from your own lightning node, all managed and controlled by only you.

Here's some more information about the Bolt Card, some more videos of it in action, and how to use them with other software, all without having to rely on any other financial institution.

I second this your particular idea. To make it more convincing he should include his play ticket also. Although, no matter how legit and authentic the source or insider might be, I won't support the idea of taking a loan to bet. I will personally maximize my stake with some of my savings depending on how I feel about the game but definitely not taking loan.

Yeah, taking a loan and then losing puts you deep into negative territory, whereas losing your savings at least keeps you positive, so it's not that bad when all is considered.

I wouldn't be comfortable betting with a loan.

I feel that I’m being bit harsh but I don’t see either sides as genuine contenders for lifting the World Cup, because they don’t play dominating football anymore and while they may cause an upset or two they definitely won’t win the World Cup.

Furthermore on paper these two sides should qualify from their group, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to struggle to qualify hence keep an eye on their form before deciding to wager on them.

I can definitely see any of those two teams in the quarter finals at least. Hard to predict who actually will end up winning the world cup though, as that requires a bit of luck as well.

Maybe we will see a South American final, Brazil vs Argentina, maybe The Netherlands ends up finally winning, maybe Cristiano Ronaldo surprises everyone, etc. Anything can happen.

Experts have been predicting that ever since bitcoin went to $1000 for the first time. One way that could happen though is if the us government printed so much money that the us dollar because worthless. Then bitcoin would be worth $1m usd but it probably couldn't buy you a car.

Now with that said, bitcoin could of course go to $1m without hyperinflation but we have had alot of inflation lately. lately meaning the last 2 or 3 years. in the usa. so the usd is becoming more worthless due to government printing more and more of it and it being backed by nothing.

This is what Hal Finney predicted in 2009:

As an amusing thought experiment, imagine that Bitcoin is successful and
becomes the dominant payment system in use throughout the world.  Then the
total value of the currency should be equal to the total value of all
the wealth in the world. Current estimates of total worldwide household
wealth that I have found range from $100 trillion to $300 trillion. With
20 million coins, that gives each coin a value of about $10 million.

It will be interesting to see who will top the group. Because at some point (QF?) the winners of this group will probably play against Brazil. Anyway, the other two teams in the group (Japan and Costa Rica) should not be much of a worry for Spain. Their main target would be not to lose the match against Germany. A win would be better, but if that is not possible then even a draw will be good. In that case they just need to score enough goals to make sure that they top the group. IMO, Spain is having a higher probability compared to Germany.

That Germany vs Spain match will probably determine who wins the world cup.

I can easily see one of them ending up in the final and even winning it in the end.

Not sure where they would meet again if both keep winning their matches after both pass to the next stage, but it would be an interesting match to see happening.

Players may come and go. But for my generation, Messi and Ronaldo are like legends. They represent the sport of football for an entire generation, as they have been playing for more than 15 years. Obviously in the next world cup (2026) some new player may take their place. And it is quite possible that some of the younger fans back then won't recognize how good Messi and Ronaldo were. For my parents' generation, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Peter Schmeichel, Romário and Roberto Baggio were the heroes. But I don't feel nostalgic for them, because I was a small kid back then. For me, my heroes are Messi and Ronaldo. For the next generation, it maybe someone else.

Maradona and Pele are probably on another level though.

In Argentina Maradona is also known as D10S (God in Spanish, spelled with the number 10, his shirt number). People really have an adoration of Maradona, I think he transcended football.

And Pele was just phenomenal, probably the first superstar in football.

Even though Messi is great, it will never get to the same level of Maradona.

Spain is placed in a very tough group, along with Germany and Japan. I don't know whether they will manage to finish ahead of the group. And even if they finish on top, the knockout matches are going to be very tough. In the next stage, they will be facing either Belgium or Croatia and both of them are very good teams. And next round is going to be even more tough, because in the Quarter-finals stage they will be facing Brazil in all probability. But Spain is in good form at this moment, and I have high hopes for them.

Yeah, E is a tough group, I agree. But I think Germany and Spain are going to pass into the next round.  At the end of the day those two are the only winners of previous world cups in that group.

It's definitely going to be an interesting group to watch though.
2873  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling schools importance on: August 24, 2022, 01:02:41 AM
Like every other games, there are academies to get the training, But I never heard of gambling schools to train the people.

Do you think we need gambling schools to prepare people for gamble?

We do have them, it's math, and probabilities, and it's being taught in schools everywhere.

Most people don't understand probabilities, and that's why they keep gambling with very bad chances of winning anything.

I mean, all games have an advantage to the casino, but some people play games that have an absurd advantage to the casino.
2874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How would you prefer your casino reward? on: August 23, 2022, 11:39:16 PM
Quick question, on your first visit to a casino to play slots, you were offered a bonus reward as incentive for visiting, if you are given the option to either receive your rewards in form of free spins for you to try out your luck and maybe win more, or direct cash reward, which will you choose?

Direct cash reward is going to be more valuable for the gambler of course. But free spins are probably cheaper to provide for the casino, and yet they're still seen as something positive for the gambler.

So, if I was running a casino I would probably use free slots instead of direct cash reward. Specially since many gamblers will just try to trick the system and create multiple accounts for the free money, etc.

Spain was indeed quite victorious before in the world cup but in 2014 and 2018 Spain performance declined quite dramatically, thus making them helpless in several group stages and also the last 16, I think now Spain golden era may be repeated because indeed their squad filled with potential young players, in contrast to your view, I think Spain will again be one of the favorites to win the 2022 world cup later, moreover they are joined by a team that maybe only Germany will be able to make it difficult for them, while Japan and Costa Rica like you say maybe they will only be a complementary team this year.

In the end they would probably have to beat Brazil to win the world cup, and that's going to be a difficult task.

And if they don't clash with Brazil, then they probably will meet Argentina, which is also an extremely difficult team to beat.
2876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years ago mined 50 Bitcoin just moved on: August 23, 2022, 11:30:49 PM
To be honest, any miner who could have the courage to hold a bitcoin that was mine when the price was $0.5 deserve to do whatever he chose to do with his bitcoin. I mean 10 years is a big lot of time that many things have happened in the bitcoin industry. If the owner of that wallet address could import his private keys to other chains, he could also spend other coins that were airdroped some years ago.
~snip~

It's also possible that this address is just one of many. And that the miner has simply continued to sell one block reward every few years to fund life.

Remember that in 2010 it was not uncommon to have multiple block rewards if you had a PC miner running 24/7 for months.

Also, it seems that the altcoins are still there as of now: https://blockchair.com/search?q=18eXJskHRVvKrqmxD9T6K6UQ6GBC6ya2WS

Injuries surely going to be had big impact on this world cup and many teams because as we can check right now many clubs are facing serious issues even they have suitable replacements but still these are not enough for them to give support same going to happen in World Cup with Pogba factor is also having big impact on France even mostly are feeling he will be fit for World Cup but still doubts are also on and right now European Soccer season is under progress where we can face some more troubles as well which is also crucial for many top rank teams.

For better predictions and views about World Cup we have to wait for full squads just before world cup because this will give clear details about all teams and their chances into world cup right now giving predictions are not good enough just early talk is ok, but predictions are still far away.

When you mentioned injuries I remembered about covid. Hopefully we won't have an issue with that in this World Cup. Since the last one happened in 2018, in a world without covid, I really hope the first post-covid19 world cup happens without an issue. I mean it in every way. It's not only the virus itself that can cause controversies in a sport, governments can also cause them by denying/revoking visas, just like what happened to Djokovic in Australia recently for the 2022 Melbourne open...

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I wonder why they're still using an older address(the ones that start with 1 or 3), and not a new one (the ones that start with bc1).

My guess is that this is someone that found an old miner PC or something like that, and moved the coins around using the same configuration/wallet.
