And  gpu mining looks better mostly due to sales and warranty tactics of btc ASIC builders.

To all,

I'm mining with two RX 480 1288MHz cards

In dual mining I'm getting ~22.5MHs on ETH and ~420 on SIA

Is it OK? Am I right that there is no good way to overclock these cards (smth like MSI AfterBurner)?

What is your memory on the cards 4gb or 8 gb..

The best way to overclock is use Amd wattman in the Amd settings.

Are you using  16.7.2 with the rx 480s
28764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is CHINA CONTROLLING Bitcoin? on: August 28, 2016, 12:58:51 AM
Yes.

Simply because they can alter the difficulty by 25 to 35 percent anytime they want to do it.
28765  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new Eth thread builds info and other stuff thoughts and photos included. on: August 27, 2016, 11:27:21 PM
Which chipset is on your motherboard?  I read something earlier that the Z170 motherboards cannot support more than 4 GPUs.  I'll see if I can find it and add the link to this post.

Edit:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1592305.0

Here is MB I'm using:

ASRock Motherboard ATX DDR3 1066 LGA 1150 H81 PRO BTC

So from 4pm till 4.30am I tried:

1) Remove all drivers. Reinstall them
2) Clean Win 7 Pro installation

Achieve:

1) I could run 3 cards - 2 RX 480 and 1 R9 390

Any attempt to plug 4th card results in black screen before passing BIOS post

So now I even not sure that I can come back to my original 4 r9 390

Help is needed!

Yeah mixing the 390 with the 480 has issues

Pull the Amd driver put in two 390 and no other gpu

Then load Amd 15.12

Boot it see if two 390 show up if they do
Shut down add third 390
Boot twice third should show if third one shows

Shut down add fourth 390
Boot twice and all 390 show

I hope. This helps.

Back to me I added two more gpus.

I am at 20 gpus

Two four card rigs
Six two card rigs

Well the www.coindesk.com article below says that it will take 391 days to ROI for a unit with the included PSU. OUCH!

(of course as previously mentioned in a post you don't get one the BTC price is gonna go to $750 or $1000 ..that is how BTC and crypto work. (BTC: your merciless bitch) (tm)..ie missed boat action)

http://www.coindesk.com/bitmain-release-new-bitcoin-miner-bid-attract-hobbyists/

Then again winter is coming ...I could justify the 'toy' for the 'space heater' qualities....(that would be me in denial have 6000w in basement now with Titans...grasping at straws)

I mean where was this thing at this price BEFORE halving? (damn it) Sad

Looking at the above..there is a reason I am only running scrypt miners......this unit...(if ROI above is correct) is not attractive in USA with ave electric price of 15c kwh. (me 14c kwh)

Well anyway its pretty. Truth be told IF they made it with a ONE year warranty I'd get one and just call it a 'toy' and hope for a price pump on BTC as my justification. BUT 90 days

less than ideal imho. But probably the way of the world now.

yeah it is why I just purchased more gpu's

Phil,
You have a write-up or pictures of your GPU setup?

Pm sent
28767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 27, 2016, 09:54:48 PM
So they're moving backwards, 14, 12.9, 11.8, 8.6 TH/s. Will they take PayPal for this? :-)

yeah it is why I just purchased more gpu's

LOL yeah the math is brutal.

I have cheap power at the solar array

I have expensive power in my house

so called summer rates

with 18 cent price in my house between extra ac and the summer rate hike.  I earn 850 usd in eth coin after power 500 usd in a month.

So I paid off 8 gpus maybe nine gpus since april.

Asic mined BTC is in trouble.  GPU mined ETH convert to BTC makes far more economic sense then buying an asic miner.

Bitmaintech's biggest competitor is the GPU pc.

I'm still waiting for the second A6, but this first one is producing extremely close to the S7s, with less noise, and it cost less. Uses 1.1KW v. 1.4.

Also awaiting...the R4 does not excite me. We'll see.

Sorry for OT, but does the Avalon require a PC for a controller? I know you were having issues getting one setup a few days ago. Hopefully an A7 can be standalone as I don't want to shell out any more cash for another PC or Raspberry (never owned a Pi).

Back on topic. This is a long network block. It would be nice for us to snag it!!!!  Grin

you would need a rasp pi if it is like the avalon 4 or avalon 6
28770  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 with chips appear as XXXXX on: August 27, 2016, 01:20:53 PM
Hi guys.
Well you not really the only one. I had some xx but after restart most of the time it goes well. How ever IF i used the stock firmware. After update i got even more weird stuff going on.
My psu is antminer 1600w so no problems there. I even use another fan on it to keep it real cool.
But i just been talking to support about my last weird thing... After like two days of using the s9 like to get slower and slower... Huh? wtf

Temp is not a problem right now. As when the temp was at around 90C the s9 pushed on really well.. Untill now

Also one hash board gets pretty much hw unlike the other two. I changed the port on controller and got more better results but now again.. back where i was before :S

classic example of a hot tired psu.  drop your clock freq  say 550 is stock drop to 500  see if the hash rate drops after 2 days.

But while i tested the psu on S7 and it worked well??? I have a different fan on the psu also so it is alot more cooler than before.

BUT they are still hitting 90 !!!!

60  90 is fine
65  95 is fine
70 100 is pushing your luck

The amount of hashpower controlled by bitmaintech is amazing.

My pick is -1.2  which if I do win I will roll it over.

I think I am the only one with a shot. Grin

this is with 350 blocks to go.  The redline is the one that is right about 0% !!

if you supply 220 volt to this box with 10 awg wire  you can run 4 s9's

Just keep wires leading to the box short.
28774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 27, 2016, 04:16:48 AM
Never thought you need to spend this much amount of money to mine. Are people here really rich or what, spending this much dime for a machine. My three month salary for one machine  Roll Eyes carry on folks.

Money is relative.  I live in NJ in a 375,000 usd home depending on what city in NJ that price can be a small home in really nice town or a medium home in a medium priced town .

Or a pretty big house in a poor town.

You can range in size from  1200 square ft .  To 3750 square foot.

You may even get a big lot for that price say four acres.

Or in some towns a small lot 4000 square ft.

28776  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 26, 2016, 09:16:56 PM
Do you think you could run one board to set it up and lower the freq and then restart it and run both boards at the lowered freq (I've only got an 850w psu)?

Sure why not

Just attach the controller and only one board.  Set freq at 500 vs 550  and boom you are off.

If I get one I plan to run it at 700 or 750 gh

just remember you need 7 pcie cables.

Yep got plenty of cables. Well I've got four gpu points on my psu (EVGA 850w P2) and pci leads that split into two on the ends. Anyone know how much the average controller draws and if it can be run from a Sata/Peripheral connection point on my psu?

It powers the fans  so 40 to 65 watts with fans but this is a new fan.

So a sata connection would be OK?

yeah  what is your exact psu?    something like this is good

https://www.amazon.com/Electop-Express-Molex-Power-Cable/dp/B01D0XATL8/ref=sr_1_1?

but  use two jacks from the psu  that way 2 yellow wires are really used.

28777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new Eth thread builds info and other stuff thoughts and photos included. on: August 26, 2016, 08:53:07 PM
Okay I am going to try to salvage my bad 4 card mobo biostar.

I shorted two pcie slots thrying to jam the four cards into the large thor case from rosewill.

I grabbed some risers and will see if I can rescue this board or at least get to be a three card board.

Will post some mor eon it over the week end.

I finally stabilized the solar array with the 6 s-9's and 1 s-7 .

I had to put the miners behind a second and third router.

I now not longer drop a board in hash on any of the rigs.

This board drop was one in were the power was used but the board disappears on the miners gui and on the pool.

I have seen this happen with more then one style of miner and more then one pool.  If I take the miner from the solar array drive it back to my house and fire it up all boards show as does the hash on gui and pool.

Well back to this four card build.
