2881  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Looking for Help with transaction that never showed. on: January 29, 2023, 08:59:23 AM
version 4.09 on windows 7
You are using an outdated version of Electrum on an old and even more outdated version of Windows. Windows 7 is no longer recommended and Windows doesn't care about it either.

FYI...I was an original beta tester of bitcoin , simple machines forum, and was initially into it at .14 cents, went through the mt.gox debacle etc until now.   if that counts for anything....
That doesn't change the situation you are in now one bit.

heres the info, wheres the BTC?  seems stuck in limbo with no transaction notice on my side
It's not stuck in limbo. Your transaction history shows an incoming transaction followed by an outgoing one. These two transactions are 1 second apart. You should consider your wallet and the device it's installed on as compromised.

Do you still have the exact address you downloaded your Electrum wallet from?
A lot of time passed since you last used your wallet in 2021 and who knows what you did to get infected.
Did you download any Electrum updates and how? Did you ever verify the signatures for any of those updates?
How much do you know about basic computer security, and is the computer used for torrents, porn, dubious websites, cracked software and games, etc?
Malware and viruses can easily spread over email as well if you don't know what you are doing.
2882  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [Tutorial] BlueWallet - Bitcoin Wallet Discussion on: January 29, 2023, 08:20:58 AM
@OP
As others have pointed out, I think you should edit and correct Step #1 that talks about searching and finding the wallet on the Play Store. Say that the wallet should only be downloaded from links posted on the official website instead.

You can also import Electrum seed phrase on Bluewallet, this makes it differ from most BIP39 wallets that support only importing seed phrase generated on BIP39 wallets.
You can, but unless Blue Wallet changed something in its system, the Electrum seed you import must be for a wallet that has been funded and is not empty. I don't know if it still needs to have a positive balance at the time of import or if it's enough that it had some coins at one point in the past. An empty Electrum wallet can't be recovered in Blue Wallet.

Disadvantages:
  • Good lightning support.
  • Simple for anyone who wants to use bitcoin rarely.
Why do you consider good Lightning support and simplicity of use to be disadvantages?

I like BlueWallet for small (because it's custodial) LN payments
Just so we don't confuse potential users. Blue Wallet's Lightning wallet is custodial. The standard Bitcoin wallet is non-custodial.
2883  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallet software security on: January 29, 2023, 07:59:42 AM
And if I do install a wallet on a mobile device, I create a private key in addition to the password that will be requested and keep it in a safe place.
One has nothing to do with the other. You have no influence over the private key that gets generated nor can you choose one that you prefer. The wallet isn't going to "request" the private key when you try to open it, and no one makes backups of individual private keys for each used address nowadays unless they have to. Just backup your seed and it takes care of everything else.

- The private key is a signing key that you need to make transactions. The process is automated and the wallet does that for you. The wallet doesn't ask you to point it towards the correct private key.
- Password and biometric entries aren't automated. You use them manually to access your wallet.
2884  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: January 29, 2023, 07:50:20 AM
So in the argument discussed in this topic, OP picking up a paper wallet worth 0.6btc, is this a theft scenario?
It wasn't theft because there were no bitcoins at all. It's a scam attempt in disguise designed to make you lose your money instead.

It's a question of what is the moral thing to do if such a thing happened for real. That's where the community has different opinions. Some wouldn't do a thing because it's not their coins. Others would "give" the original owner some time and then sweep the coins to one of their addresses. But the owner doesn't even know that the clock is ticking. Some users would try to warn the owner that their keys are compromised by depositing a small sum and then withdrawing it showing they have access to the private keys...
2885  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Arbitrage betting (Surebets) on: January 29, 2023, 07:37:20 AM
They can spot arbitrage bets but they cant spot their mistake in odds ?
Confisicate money for betting on their odds ? Thats theft and criminal behavior.
Just read the TOS carefully of every site you intend to use for arbitrage betting and pay attention to what it says. 99% of people won't do that. They will spot it if you make it to easy for them. A $50 bet doesn't look like an arbitrage bet. A $52.17 is a completely different thing though.

Did you ever heard Pinny confiscate money from players ? No, cos they know what are they doing.
Pinny as in Pinnacle Sports? I have heard of the brand but never played there nor do I know their reputation.

Every bookie should by lead by their example.
Period.
What should be and what is happening are two different things. We shouldn't have war in the 21st century either, but you can see how that goes. Go to the scam accusations board and read some of the complaints there. There are, of course, many players who are scammers as well, but maybe you will get an idea about some of the things that are are happening.

Ivekzg can maybe confirm it but I don't think their TOS prohibit arbitrage betting, it wouldn't be lawful and they have no oversight to know you have place another bet on the opposite outcome at another sportsbook.
The OP doesn't mention specific names of sportsbooks. Each one should be analyzed individually. Like I said, the size of the wager can be enough for them to see it's an arbitrage bet.

Even if the TOS doesn't mention arbitrage betting itself, they can have a vague term like: We reserve the right to close your account and confiscate any money used in a way that is detriment to our businesses. The statement doesn't mention anything specific, but justifies their actions and gives them the right to protect their business (according to them). Then it's on the player to fight and prove his innocence.
2886  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Arbitrage betting (Surebets) on: January 28, 2023, 08:58:12 PM
It's not worth the trouble in my opinion. Sportsbooks can spot arbitrage bets and they will limit you. If you are unlucky, they can even confiscate your money. Don't forget that all casinos and sportsbooks hide behind their TOS. Crypto bookies are licensed in Curacao. There isn't much you can do when they take your money and ban you. Curacao standards can't be compared with normal casino regulators. The little profit you could make isn't worth the headache if it goes sideways.
2887  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum improved Payserver plugin by ChatGPT on: January 28, 2023, 08:42:20 PM
I don't know what to think about this. First I thought it was a joke, but there is a screenshot there showing what they asked ChatGPT to do. Still, I am sure they wouldn't just blindly rely and use random code created by an AI. I have seen people correct ChatGPT for correctly adding two numbers together and it apologized and said it made a mistake. Maybe if you told it that the code it produced is completely wrong, it would believe you and make something else.

Someone who claims to be a JavaScript developer has already rated the code as being of low quality.

2888  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How can i generate electrum-seed? on: January 28, 2023, 08:19:31 PM
because I'm not a programmer.
And no one will write a complete program for generating a new version of the seed to me on the forum.
Are you just coding curious and want to play around with seed derivations or do you actually have plans to use such a system that you create to store your coins? I think it's important to realize that you are creating a problem where one doesn't exist. If you want a BIP-39 compatible seed, then generate it with a wallet that creates such seeds. You can still use that seed in Electrum. If you want an Electrum-native seed, generate one with Electrum.

Electrum is trusted and open-source, and it's been around for years. You can even do everything in a completely offline environment, so your seed never touches a computer with internet connection.
2889  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X can’t send TRC20 token on: January 28, 2023, 08:01:37 PM
Ledger has some issues when syncing Tron accounts. That's been going on even before that bug with failed TRC-20 tokens became known. When I say issues, I mean it takes much longer to sync a Tron account in Ledger Live compared to Bitcoin accounts. When it happens, a restart of Ledger Live tends to fix it.

But besides the syncing difficulties, I haven't noticed the transaction failures you mentioned. I have some USDT in a Tron account and when I make transactions (from my desktop), it works just fine. It's just the syncing that gets on my nerves.

2891  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Any trusted members that accept Wise (Transferwise) or Skrill? on: January 28, 2023, 05:17:28 PM
@OP, I accept Wise, I also have a 5 star rating at localcoinswap.com. Hit me up with your Telegram or we can talk through the forum.
All right, good to know. I will keep you in mind when the time comes. Do you have any limits or anything else I should know about?
We can talk over the forum's PM system if you don't mind. I am not a big fan of Telegram.
2892  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 28, 2023, 11:42:31 AM
<Snip>
If I remember correctly, ChangeNOW has pretty high fees when bigger amounts are concerned. It's ok for smaller sums that you otherwise maybe couldn't even swap on standard exchanges because the amounts are under the minimum trading limits. Try to check what the difference in the rates offered on ChangeNOW's official website are and what you see in the Stack Wallet. That way we could know approximately how big of a premium they charge.

Like I mentioned previously, KYC is a possibility with ChangeNOW and their partners:

Quote
ChangeNOW’s AML/KYC procedure is supported by an automated risk prevention system. If a transaction is marked suspicious by this system, the exchange is put on hold and the customer in question is then asked to confirm their identity.

2893  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Are hardware wallets really safe? And so is Bip39? Opinions about Ledger? on: January 28, 2023, 10:44:30 AM
I am going to offer my view on your questions and concerns.

1. So with Ledger, for instance, it’s a “24-word recovery phrase.” I was wondering when and how the recovery phrase was determined on a Ledger device for example? It’s not possible that the company itself knows it before they deliver it with DHL?
The recovery phrase is generated on your local machine during the setup process. Ledger doesn't do it for you. Still, these are closed-source devices and you have to trust them that they don't have backdoors in there somewhere.

I’ve heard the best way to buy a Ledger is from the company itself, because Amazon/eBay Ledgers could be compromised.
That's true for all hardware wallets, not just Ledger. I am not sure what you mean with compromised. Only a genuine Ledger can connect to the genuine Ledger Live native app and communicate with genuine Ledger servers. If you use a fake HW with a software downloaded from a phishing site, that's not Ledger's fault.

2. Just these 24 words in the right order are pretty much secure?
More than secure. The security of the 24-seed phrase is higher than that of a bitcoin private key. Don't worry about someone generating the same seed as you. Worry about all the planets in the solar system come crashing into planet Earth at the same time and you being the sole survivor. That's more likely to happen. Grin

3. The 24-word recovery phrase in universally compatible (whether other hardware wallets, software etc), so if a thief knows my recovery phrase, he can also use it with Electrum obviously?
Yes to both questions.

4. And this 24-word recovery phrase is able to generate thousands of public/private keys, so if I have a Bitcoin savings plan like 0.1 Bitcoin every month (so sending it from Coinbase/Binance to the hardware wallet), nobody would find out about the real balance since it’s spread out over many addresses?
The servers you connect to can see your addresses and the balances on them. That's true for Ledger Live as well as Electrum. The way around that is operating your own server. The information they have on you impacts your privacy but not the security of your coins.

5. If I go for a Ledger, I would probably purchase the Nano S Plus because it doesn’t have any bluetooth?
That's not a question. If I wanted to buy a new Ledger device today (which I don't), I would rather get the Nano S Plus than the Nano X. I wasn't a fan of the Bluetooth feature the 1st time I saw it and that hasn't changed. Their battery system is also bad.

6. I can setup a Ledger also completely offline with Linux/Ubuntu DVD and just Electrum?
Ledger ships its devices with already installed firmware, but that firmware could be outdated. You need internet connection to get the latest firmware. You also need to install the apps you intend to use. You can only do that through Ledger Live. You can't use Electrum and Bitcoin without first installing the Bitcoin app on your Nano.

7. I’m also concerned about the Ledger since there was this data breach online, so the thing to do would be using the address of a homeless shelter, something like that just to stay anonymous?
Or you could try to ship it to a PO box if that works in your country and Ledger supports it. Additionally, you might try your place of work or something like that.

8. If I have everything setup with Ledger Live or Electrum, can I have a watch only wallet just for transferring my Bitcoin from Binance/Coinbase with a new public address even if I chose do destroy my Ledger device after 1 week for additional safety?
I don't see the point in destroying the device. Don't buy it at all if you aren't going to use it as intended. Look into setting up and using an airgapped system instead.

9. So the Ledger device in general is pretty much 100% secure and the only known hacks and 100% of the time it was the user who put the phrase up on Google drive, told their partner etc.?
No hardware wallet is 100% secure. Something can be less or more secure, but not completely 100% secure. A (Ledger) hardware wallet is secure enough if you don't mind its closed-source nature.

10. As far as my understanding goes, there are only 2 ways to “hack” (not the right word of course) a Ledger device:  1. someone knows 24 word seed or 2. Ledger device and someone knows pin code. That’s correct?
In theory, each device could have a backdoor that reports the generated seed phrase back to someone at Ledger. No one knows.
2894  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Password Manager Deprecation! on: January 28, 2023, 09:56:42 AM
If I remember correctly ledger hardware wallet should also have password manager, and I am not sure if any other devices have something similar.
That's right. Many people probably don't even know about it because it's not available with the default settings. It's one of their experimental features that can be activated through the developer mode in the settings of Ledger Live. https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017501380-Passwords?docs=true
I have never tried it, and I assume it's a painful process entering complex passwords and finding the characters you want with the left/right buttons on the Ledger HWs.
2895  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 28, 2023, 09:47:13 AM
@Lillominato89
I think the Safepal S1 comes with a Type C USB cable but it's only used for charging and doesn't have data pins.
https://store.safepal.com/safepal_store_view/safepal-s1-hardware-wallet.html
The device is supposed to be airgapped so it doesn't connect through USB to transfer data.

BTW guys, what's with the quoting of the OP? It looks ridiculous quoting the first post and isn't necessary. First Tibu does it and now Lillominato89 as well. Just post what you want to say without irrelevant quotes.
@dkbit98 you can report this to the mods and ask them to remove the quote of the OP if it irritates you. It works, and I did it the other day in one of my threads that I forgot to self-moderate.
2896  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 28, 2023, 09:29:55 AM
Such exchanges are instant exchanges, they will not ask for KYC, but as you know, all instant exchanges are centralized exchanges, they can seize users coins and demand for KYC.
Not necessarily. It depends on the platform. Instant exchanges also have their partners and liquidity providers, and they might be the ones that want to verify who is sending the money and what is the source of it. It happens. You can come across scam accusations where instant exchanges have confiscated funds (actually their partners have) and users are being asked for KYC.
2897  Other / Meta / Re: Merits Tree 2022 - Monthly Results on: January 28, 2023, 09:25:54 AM
It's okay not to send Merit back to whoever gave it to you. Just send it to posts that deserve it, no matter who made them.
I know, I am not saying it isn't nor should that be in your mind that you need to merit users A and B because they are meriting you. Or do the opposite and not merit them because they don't merit you either. Still, it's interesting stats. I am pretty sure I am stabbing a few guys in the back (unintentionally) who often merit my posts but I don't come across theirs that much. And since I am a merit source, I have a few wounds all over my back as well.
2898  Economy / Currency exchange / Any trusted members that accept Wise (Transferwise) or Skrill? on: January 28, 2023, 08:06:01 AM
I am just looking for information at this stage.

I should be getting some money either via Wise or Skrill in the near future for some work I did and still do for a client. Since I normally don't work with these e-wallet services, I am not going to withdraw the funds to my bank account/debit card. These are personal and verified accounts btw.

I am planning to use the money to buy BTC and USDT for it. Are there trusted members here who accept Wise and Skrill and who would be interested in 1:1 long-term deals perhaps? Escrow can, of course, be part of the deal, we just need to agree on the terms.

Post below please or send me a PM.
2899  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 28, 2023, 07:50:46 AM
Note that is new wallet so only use it for exprimental testing purposes!
In all honesty, the Stack Wallet is also still being tested and developed according to the info Lida93 saw when he downloaded his version from Google Play. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to mention in the OP that the wallet is still in development stage.

I found out some more interesting things after reading their website.

- You can apparently exchange the coins that Stack Wallet supports even for assets that aren't' supported by the wallet. That's because the whole process is done through 3rd parties. I guess you have to provide the exchange with a wallet address from somewhere else, and that's where they will send your coins. If there is liquidity, this is great news. But does the wallet mention the names of the 3rd-party exchanges they work with? Maybe there is a chance the exchanges ask for KYC.

- Stack Wallet takes a cut from each swap. They explain on their website that's how they make money. To get the best possible rate, one can always compare the in-app offer to what the exchange offers when you visit its official page directly.
2900  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Alternative methods to transfer BTC from an old Coinbase multisig Vault on: January 28, 2023, 07:34:56 AM
Quote
Internet connection is only required in Step 1, where you input the public keys, so that we can fetch the unspent outputs from your vault addresses.

Before inputting your keys in Step 2 and signing the transaction you can safely go offline.

In Step 3 you will get a signed transaction in raw hex form.

You never have to go online with your public keys.
I am guessing this is a simple typo. From the source you quoted, it's clear that you need to be online when importing public keys because the software needs to check if there are still any coins in the vault hiding behind those keys. But once that is done, you can apparently take the system offline while working with private keys and transaction signing.
