Did anyone introduce Monero to some DarkMarkets?
Some guy around here is doing a bit of Marketing for Monero, i am just not able to recall his name...  Angry Grin

I do remember there is someone promoting XMR, but I can't recall his name either.  Tongue

Found that guy  Grin
Wrote him a pm  Roll Eyes

I do my best to promote Monero but have zero connections with any dark markets and have never promoted Monero there. My focus will continue to be on clearnet businesses with a focus on privacy and security. VPNs, encrypted email, encrypted cloud storage are a few examples of the companies I am contacting. I also am contacting privacy related charity and lobbying groups to ask about accepting Monero for donations.

+1 for good strategy

Is building large buildings going to change at all in coming year(s)? Need to know if I should keep learning and designing in spreadsheet or not.

It possibly will. Thing is:

- The building has until now had the required datatype and the utilized datatype. The required has included things such as facade plans, even though they have not been utilized, ie. had any affect on the game (and not even stored in the database).

- We seek to make a new, easier utilized datatype, which can be scripted completely and not rely on admin periodical updates. This means that Ancient buildings utilize even less of their data. It is up to me whether to continue to require all the same things as before or ease them.

If all the same things are required still, it is easy for builders who know the rules, difficult for new ones, and time-consuming for all.

If less things are required, the new Major (stone) buildings do not conform to old Major buildings, and neither to the new Minor buildings in their required datatype. In the utilized datatype, they of course all conform because that is the data the system actually uses.

Maybe give a historical building bonus, so the old builders are rewarded for their harder work and the game can move onto to use only the utilized data to the benefit of all?

It is an option yes, but then it requires the utilized datatype be more comprehensive (, so that it allows not only commoner house and herb garden, but also RWWC factory, Grand Hotel, Gilded Goose, Mint, etc. buildings which have multifarious game objectives and aesthetic value. In any case, the historical buildings data will be kept, so that we can merge them in the next iterations of Building subgame.

I am considering. Google DB (current master for /BLDG) has 56 fields that are officially required. The Minor buildings sheet (link a few posts ago) has 5-7. There are benefits for keeping them separate, but also for merging.

My thought was that the older buildings would have to be built again when "building type 3" was started and that the buildings in "type 2" would be generic, but configurable to certain objectives (gain sci, gain cul, gain m, or a mix of them all) and for that all you would need is four building types (or maybe even less) that could be modified by voxel total, voxel type, and voxel location. The generic description looking like this: a three story research building that contains 2000 wall voxels, 100 window voxels, 16 door voxels  located in this tax and bonus area. It could be even more generic: voxels + building type + area = cost and yearly payout. Again, this is assuming that most, if not all buildings, will be built from the raw materials from the type 2 era when the switch to type 3 is made.

(buyer)

(buyer)

This seems to be the problem. Maybe some sellers will show up but so far every effort I've made both privately and publicly to try to create larger block liquidity has failed for lack of sellers.

I think sellers are expecting an unreasonable price for their AEON.  Which is fine, if they believe in it long term then perhaps they should hold onto it, but it's frustrating when people offer large blocks and don't accept above market price offers for it.

I think currently (and I probably shouldn't even say this yet because I don't own any AEON) we should expect that at a minimum Polo will eventually pick up AEON and the price will jump up, even if Smooth only makes minor improvements from here on out.  It's probably a pretty good place to park some small-time speculator assets.  On the other hand, the network doesn't need people parking money into it - it needs people playing with it and transacting with it.

Develop a way to spend aeon and you'll see use. Has anyone talked to Risto about adding it to CK? Is there a gambling site in the works? A mobile wallet? A business that accepts it? Can't really blame people for squatting on land when there isn't a way yet to till or build-on it.

Crichton would like to buy Lot E-l2 in Borough 2 at 240mil.

That should be possible to do in Ultima!  Smiley

"BUY 2-E-I2 1 240mil"

The lot is listed for sale by the owner, Town. While buying, document that it is listing correctly, and buying happens as it should.

This is a pleasant surprise.

Didn't work with dashes, but bid was placed when they were removed, though the sale hasn't happened....

If there is a crackdown on privacy coins, I wonder if the market will become like the bath salts market where each new regulation leads to more and more offshoots. In this scenario, a Monero crackdown (voluntary or otherwise) would push people who want privacy to coins like AEON and BBR, and when those coins are targeted (or too centralized), it pushes people to new coins, and when those coins are targeted....

I just heard that S-WW is targeted, after all it is a vague promise to perhaps get virtual White Wine from Germania some time.

Also you cannot any more mortgage properties when playing Monopoly without getting prior permission from an out-of-game notary!  Shocked

Shoot, next they'll take one of the horses that FH sold me. As long it isn't my prized hack "Rocinante," I think I'll be ok.

Is this all just about hoping for The Big Pump so we can cash out to fiat and buy Lambos or are we actually trying to accomplish something here?

I just want my Lambo.

But in all seriousness, technology will always be an arms race against governments and organizations trying to regulate and profit from it. We may win some battles, but I doubt there will ever be a time where we can sit back and live happily ever after with a perfectly incorruptible form of money.

True, but to win any battles you have to recognize them as battles worth fighting. I see a lot of people (not only here but also in other threads, reddit, etc.) assuming and accepting that Monero is just going to follow right in Bitcoin's footsteps.

Unless your objective is primarily price increases, I don't see the purpose of doing that, and many reasons fight against it. Plus it becomes questionable whether Monero can successfully achieve Bitcoin's price increases without some very strong differentiators, so this may be entirely pointless, not just pointless in terms of social and technological goals.

chennan, it is very unclear whether a system that becomes centralized can maintain integrity even on things like the number of coins, and certainly in terms of Monero's core goal of privacy. Those in control of centralized mining and transaction processing has a lot to say over what forks get introduced, and absolutely centralized control could at least block all private transactions, forcing people to identify themselves and potentially agree to other conditions, or be banned from the system.

phishead, in addition to calling into doubt the integrity of the system, and stopping privacy, centralized miners can certainly enforce blacklists, whitelists, etc. Centralization isn't just a question of mining either. Coinbase is probably the largest Bitcoin company and for the most part their customers never have direct access to Bitcoin. They are a bank and can do whatever they want or whatever the government tells them to do. KYC, spying, banning unpopular or controversial types of business, locking accounts, seizing coins, even fractional reserve, the list is endless.

I may not agree with Risto's religious views. But the game does allow you to explore the conscious power to lend value on its own terms, freely and without the insipid fear that wears away and dulls our imagination.

When level-up script comes (1-2 weeks), it will be based on:
- playtime / exp
[...]

In the current state, I'm curious what a new player without funds can do of its playtime though?

- Chat in the ingame chatboxes (baaaah)
- View the town as colored boxes (baaaah)
- Trade in and out MEAD (hmmm)

=> Nothing. The game is only marginally more interesting for a non-depositing player than before Ultima.

=> More development is needed!  Cheesy

(BUT: If you start now and stay alive until when the skills and things come, you will have earned a lot from freebies so consider nevertheless! Some from a year ago who were never seen have accumulated 100s of XMR during the time, + their initial gold is 10x up, and lands and items the same, at least. A 300 sqm lot is available for free in B.4, only 500 meters from the Royal Palace. The ones that were given for free 50 meters from Royal Palace are now worth 500-1000 XMR, 10x what a character is making in his life wages! Early adoptership is possible if you are early, and scales with deposit, but does not require it)

I wish I had signed up in the beginning. Those who ignored the game (like me) in the very beginning when it was only run on spreadsheets regret that decision now.

This is like regretting not buying Bitcoin before it hit $1. Get over your regrets and get playing.  Tongue

Yes,I read it,but I don't see there HOW CAN I LEVEL UP?

You play the game.
Some of the main things that are considered for levelling up:
- owning a house
- owning a suit
- for higher levels, owning a carriage
Typically, the higher the level, but higher level of these you need to go higher.

Participating in the thread and other places also gets you a bonus. Some of the level upgrades is at the King's discretion, and some if left to more objective criteria such a the list above, but I believe the precise list is not known to anyone else but the King (and PJ).

But how do I know how much more experience do I need to level up? And if I'm a free member who does not want to deposit XMR,how do I level up?

Afaik, outside of being active on the forums, there isn't much you can do to level-up until some of the player tasks and subgames are implemented.

Don't take it bad, but this sounds very much like what crapcoins do: focus on the form rather than the content.
I question the effectiveness of your approach in a forum full of competition in terms of shiny bells and whistles.

But it would also be a mistake to eschew form and flash entirely.  Remember, it's not always the superior technology that wins if something with better marketing usurps it.
-snip-

I mean, I couldn't agree with you more.  But every time I think of this relationship of between adverting/marketing and technology, I see it as an relationship to Apple vs Windows vs Android... Apple seems to succeed through a type of advertising where it's very elegant and simple at the same time.  Then Android or windows has a superior technology compared to Apple, but you see EVERYONE using Apple products.. because it's simple and pleasing to the eye.

I think there would be a big beneficial factor for Monero if it incorporates both, and what better time to start now?

But market how and to who? There is already a lot of recent effort in introducing monero to privacy oriented services. for example with tutanota:
https://tutanota.uservoice.com/forums/237921-general/suggestions/9968298-accept-monero-xmr-for-donations

Market what, that there is no gui, nor tools or plugin to websites to make payments or donations such as bitpay? Also people seem to still think that bitcoin is the best payment method for anonymous and private payments: http://txti.es/2015-vpn-providers-and-paying-using-bitcoin

So if bitcion is "the ultimate secure payment source", than why you need monero? block size adaptive? fungability? hardly anyone knows what it is, and even less people care. And these are the problems i see.

Your analysis fails to grasp that the coin must go through the gauntlet of developers (Bitcoin and others), then go to the skill users (dm and finance), before it reaches the shelves of every man.

Building

Building will take a step back in detail, allowing an easy screen to be used by anyone to build things, which come pre-graded for their effects. At the same time this "new" building datatype will have to be forward-compatible with the "new2" building procedure when Skills come online, backward-compatible with existing "old" buildings, and compatible with the "new3" future visual voxel-based building editor (and every thing that is in any way related to buildings, almost everything comes to mind).

Help with ideas is appreciated at this very stage, after a week it's too late.

Despite the challenge, expect building to resume in 1611.

I'm guessing new3 will be similar to minecraft design, so having all the voxels represented should make every building prior compatible, correct?

What are the specifications of new2?

2898  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you a religious person or not? on: October 17, 2015, 07:02:38 AM
What if our perception of religion is wrong. What if its a guide on how to live so you can live fore-ever, but not through a external judgement. You know right from wrong so every time you feel bad through your actions you littlle by little weakening your soul or life force or whatever you want to call it. Bigger the wrong the bigger the loss. I doubt a perfect creation cant have that builtin. So maybe the what religion or the who's who in it is not the point at all, but rather the how to live. But mostly people tend to "believe" they are right and to be right somebody else must be wrong. And doing bad things in the name of good is acheiving something other than damning themselves.

Problem with the bolded part is that sociapaths and psychopaths don't have this psychological feature* to the extent you are talking about or at all. And sometimes it works in reverse--there are people who get as excited as someone talking about their favorite Christmas memory when they are reminiscing the torture and murder of someone.
