2881  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful downloading COVID-19 map spread, it contains info stealing crypto on: March 12, 2020, 11:50:32 AM
Wow. As if what the world's going through with this virus pandemic wasn't enough. The last thing someone would want to happen is to have their funds stolen..

Great finding. Always keep an eye on what you're downloading. You may be unloading a little crypto trojan horse into your computer and I'm sure you do not want that Smiley
2882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Virgin coins from 2010 are on the move! on: March 12, 2020, 11:24:55 AM
To me it doesn't look like these coins are necessarily being sold. I'm far from the best Blockchain analyst out there, but if I see this correctly, all those BTC have been sent to a single address and then they were split into 15BTC addresses (https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/74c8189118f83e45d51ea480cc91f37d8a089efbebf1a2e9bf7a52e16f1f67df).

This is probably a panic selling. Its already obvious that we are still in the midst of bearish market. Typically a holder wouldnt even move a budge just to sell it on a desperate attempt. But our situation with all the markets are down, some cant be blame for selling and fear to lose their asset some value. Anyway, the market already down by huge since last night and still going down more. I am afraid it would touch down 3k level if this continue.
I highly doubt someone holding from 2010 is panic selling. If they've been through and resisted against every single BTC rise and drop it had in its history, the current moves of BTC are nothing compared to the past.

Obviously anything that is"  help me please " related gets the most Merits.
~
The "help me please" thread replies usually deserve the most merit, so do the LoyceV-like threads. I always admire his work.

~
I'm starting to make more efforts in those directions, helping newbies, photo, video tutorials, stuff like that is appreciated anywhere online i guess.
Local communities too are great since the majorities of those sections don't know English or simply suck at, that's why helping them there (native speakers) can gt them the most Merits.
It's a great start to start helping others, but don't rush in for the merits. From my experience, most merit comes from unexpected paths and posts. There are some high-quality posts I've intentionally made (they're well buried in the numerous pages of posts I have) to chase merits and it just didn't work. So yes, it mostly comes the natural way.
2885  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WHO declares Global Pandemic. How bad is it? on: March 11, 2020, 08:10:31 PM
Thanks for the reply, o_e_l_e_o. Yes, it surely does all look like a very horrific situation everywhere as of now. Italy's daily deaths will most likely only increase every day from now on, according to what is going on over there (you have mentioned some of the reasons yourself). I wish we were more prepared for an upcoming pandemic. I wish we had learned from history. It looks more than bad right now and it's only going to get worse unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through hard-to-digest moments. I wish I could've spent most of my time here on the forum like I used to, but apparently pandemic prepping has become my no. 1 priority. Let's hope things will somehow get better before it becomes the next 1918 winter spanish flu scenario..
2886  Other / Meta / Re: Analysis – Merit per post per board II on: March 11, 2020, 07:02:56 PM
Looks like the merit is given the most on the boards deserving it the most: Meta, Beginners & Help, Technical Support, Serious Discussions and Project Development. That's good news. The Arabic speakers are apparently very generous too Cheesy Well done on the study.
2887  Other / Politics & Society / WHO declares Global Pandemic. How bad is it? on: March 11, 2020, 05:18:52 PM
The Coronavirus subject took over most news channels around the world in the past few weeks. There have been serious and unprecedented measures taken by various countries hoping to combat the spread of the virus, the largest measure being the recent complete lockdown of Italy.

Some people have called it "just a flu". Some people have called it a very serious threat. I agree with the latter, but that doesn't matter. Now the WHO has officially declared the Coronavirus a Global Pandemic.

Economies have been in a real freefall in the past few weeks.. we may be witnessing one of the worst, if not the worst virus outbreak humans have seen in a century. My friends are going as we speak to the supermarkets hoping to find some supplies so they could pile up some food & water for the following possible weeks and/or months of economical, health and supply issues we might be confronting.

I'm ready for what might possibly come, but are you? What do you think? If you haven't taken it all seriously until now, is this the moment you finally agree this is a very serious threat?
2888  Economy / Economics / Re: My economy Predicrions are true!! Gold is trash on: March 11, 2020, 05:07:43 PM
I Tell you guys Secret!!

Best assets are  ethereum and USA dollar!!
Anything Else is a gamble!!
USD is the worst thing you can invest your money into. It's worse than gambling: you just know you'll most likely lose more purchasing power the more you hold it. If you want to have "the best" asset, look for scarce ones. Not for a crappy fiat that could double its total supply thanks to the existence of printers.
2889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A question about AML KYC on: March 11, 2020, 03:56:42 PM
The subject has been discussed here and through articles many times before. Nobody will ever receive personal information from me on a cryptocurrency platform or transaction. You either let me use cryptocurrencies the way they were meant to be used, or I'd rather miss a deal.

It gets harder and harder to avoid giving personal information though. Part of my BTC and alts have been stolen enough times before, but I'm still not giving up and I never will. I want to support the main purpose of cryptocurrencies and to avoid third parties at all, if possible. Hopefully the genius minds out there will successfully develop some systems to sustain exactly this idea so third parties won't be a thing anymore..
2890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto giveaway scams and how to spot them on: March 11, 2020, 02:29:12 PM
The giveaway scams are more than obvious. If I wanted to give you $100 for free, I wouldn't ask you to first send me $10. Anyone who falls for these scams is silly.

They're very easy to spot. I usually prefer to miss an incredible offer and regret later than go for it and regret being scammed.. there have only been a few legit too-good-to-be-true offers out there; scams have overtaken them in numbers long time ago.

2893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos talking about Bitcoin in 2013 on: March 11, 2020, 01:56:24 PM
Perhaps, or maybe they all ended up like this guy:

I got into Bitcoin in 2013 myself. I regrettably did not manage to hold onto most of my bitcoins from those days. Almost everyone from earlier years has a story like that -- spending, gambling, trading, or otherwise losing much of their bitcoin stash -- so don't feel too bad. Wink
Same story here. Spent my BTC under $200.. but I've learned from my mistakes. Bitcoin isn't something to play with for short terms if you don't want to regret selling it.

The thing is, Bitcoin has always increased in price from year to year. So even if the guy you quoted would've sold today, in 10 years he would've still regretted it. The day when you'll want to spend your BTC will still come, but hey.. he sold on profit. That's the only thing that matters.

I've joined in 2013 too and made some considerable mistakes out there. I'm not a millionaire by now, although I've had a lot of BTC on my hands.

2895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PETER SCHIFF WAS RIGHT: Again... If Bitcoin does not go up on good news.... on: March 10, 2020, 10:12:33 PM
So you believe that the recent fall in bitcoin price was due to a global economic crisis?
I don't think so. It was not the first time bitcoin price decreased that much just in a day. That has happened several times. It was just a coincidence that it happened during the stock market fall.

Everything that's happened in the past weeks/months led to the fall of BTC's price. But not for too long, imo. The prices will recover when those in need of quick cash will get their money out. After that, the markets will be left in our hands, the believers and hodlers.

There's so much doubt, fear and panic everywhere around the world. This isn't a time to hope for some heavy pumps/dumps of BTC; 2011-2012-like volatility will soon most likely be a thing.
2896  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does anyone pay for slandering gambling websites on Bitcointalk? on: March 10, 2020, 09:45:10 PM
It's a quite easy task to do this and any online casino owner may have interest in slandering a competitor for their own good.

I doubt there's anyone paying someone to do it though.. Unless there is a huge loss a company is suffering from and they need to take desperate measures. But falsely accusing and slandering someone here is going to fall short and, thanks to our great members here, the owner of the account slandering the respective business may even be identified.

Therefore, this might be a bad path to go for. If you want to have advantage in front of other competitors, slandering them on a forum won't do much. Moreover, in the end it could cause even more harm.

If a business wants advantage, they need to come up with better marketing and maybe implement some innovative systems and/or games.. or update their UI for a better customer experience.
2897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PLUS Token Scam Dumps Another 13,000 BTC - Another reason for the BTC drop? on: March 10, 2020, 03:40:24 PM
13000 BTC means nothing in the crypto market or even in the BTC market alone.
These kind of news whenever the market bleeds means nothing, they just try to find that " why the market is bearish ", they simply forget the fact that this is how market works, waves of ups & downs till eternity, old news, nothing new about this.

13k BTC actually means a shit ton of Bitcoins to sell and affects the markets very easily. But combine these 13k BTC sale with the current global situation (health, economy etc) and you'll get a very negative combo BTC has to fight.

And it's obvious people are looking for the reason of market selloffs. You have to be up to date with the news if you don't want to lose money as a speculator or investor.
2898  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODL HODL HODL...AND BUY MORE on: March 10, 2020, 02:46:46 PM
Some people just cannot hold in the situation we are living right now. A lot of people I know have invested all their savings in BTC a few months ago and today they're out of cash, but they need it to prepare for a potential pandemic. I have personally taken a few days off the forum and the internet itself, because I want to focus on preparing for a possibly really bad situation. Investors have a lot of reasons to sell right now. I fortunately do not rely on Bitcoin 100%, which means I can still live without selling a single satoshi even if the price dumps to $100.

I am now trying to get back into the habits I used to have a few weeks ago. The virus outbreak made me move and add some other stuff to the top of my list of priorities.

Don't worry, times will come when Bitcoin will grow back up. It's very understandable that a ton of people sell for various reasons.
2899  Economy / Speculation / Re: Convert or HODL? on: March 10, 2020, 05:16:37 AM
The markets always went against my trades. I have no idea why the hell that happens, I may be extremely unlucky. Now I'd rather not trade at all than try my luck, because a simple paper calculus shows how much of a profit I could've made doing nothing and just letting my money sit in BTC..
