2902  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: standard hardware vs asic - what do you use for mining? on: May 11, 2014, 10:34:55 PM
Hi ,

I am new to the forum and not familiar with the current ratio of standard vs asic and the latest trends.

In the early days miners could use CPUs only for crunching.
Then miners started using GPU cards.
Currently there is use of ASIC boards.

A questions for all miners -
What type of hardware do you use - standard CPU/GPU or asic boards?

Thanks, Paul.

There is no reason for anyone to still mine with CPU/GPU. I am very close to shut down my first asic boards because they cost more power to run than what bitcoins they generate. So ASIC is the way to go.

......

Nice! I'm starting to get anxious! Time goes fast in bitcoin land, but slow for miners waiting their machines Wink

So didn't anyone noticed that after the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596740.0 started on 5 May ken immediately started allowing shares trading on 8 May? So obvious and in your face...

is this sp10 really 0.7W/GH at 1.5TH? or are you being a little disengenuous?

its .7w/gh @ 1th. 1350w @ 1.5th

so op's sig would be more accurate if it read $3.20/GH - 0.7w/GH

I tried to cover the best aspects of the SP10 in my sig. 3.20$/GH is inaccurate. The SP10 can do 1.5Th/s and it costs $3200 so that's 2.13$/GH. It will have more than 0.7W/gh if you run it at 1.5TH/s, but in case price or difficulty demand it you could set it at 1TH and it will consume ~700W, but for now you can run it fine at 1.5TH/s

Better to be more upfront so people don't have unrealistic expectations.

With the same logic we could say Antminer S1 $1.00/GH - 1.19w/GH Both statements are true - just not at the same time  Wink

Done!

So very quiet.   Palpable anxiousness.

It's all very odd isn't it? Chips have been shipped out on mass and yet anybody who doesn't follow the AM threads appears to have no idea. After some dividends begin rolling we should see the forums light up like they did last time Friedcat was "making it rain". We've waiting this long but somehow this month is the most painful. Only 17 more days.

How many chips have been shipped out? The promised 850k or just the 23k to rockxie?

Are we waiting for gen3.1 or still for gen3 chips?

That's what I call bad bad decisions. I should offer paid consultancy regarding miners since i have a good nose for spotting fails.

We had this discussions on my first GB. Please refrain from them since they have been addressed on posts earlier in this thread. Let people decide for themselves. People come here for information regarding the Group Buy, not for speculations regarding ROI. If you have not posted this on the other Group Buys then it means that you are just bad intended towards this Group Buy. If this behavior will go on I will just ask a mod to delete/lock this thread and I will create one that is self-moderated. Thank you.

If I understand correctly people are claiming that SP10 will not roi with an assumption that difficulty will increase with 30%. Next difficulty will be in 2 days and it will be probably at 10%.

With the 30% logic how come sp10 will not roi while the S2 will? Not even the SP30 that will come in August will not roi. Which miner is the one that will then?

Neither S2 or SP10 of them will ROI even at 14%. At 10% SP10 will ROI in ~144 days.

Also 3200$=7.1 BTC=12-13 Antminer S1 depending on what PSUs you get. Thats 2.4-2.6 TH. Not sure how people got 8.

People got 8 in order to have 1440GH. For 13 Antminers you will need ~5kW circuit available. Not everyone has that.

The reality is you can not conclusively say if the miner is or is not cheating in any of those three scenarios.

So are we back to square one?

It seems everyone is assuming there's a withholding attack going on?

M

Not really, but are we back assuming it's just bad luck? No other option? Have we ruled out everything?

Not 30% but 14%.

Do your math https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

It's not 14% yet.

Estimated Next Difficulty:    8,869,975,358 (+10.86%)

2920  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Lawsuit Discussion on: May 10, 2014, 01:03:54 AM
these are the same as penny stocks. most fail, some don't, but they all cost only pennies a share, so one is able to invest small amounts to see what happens. at IPO there were mixed reports on Ken, but some trusted members had said they had worked with him in the past and saw a determined capable programmer and engineer, if somewhat unconventional and difficult to communicate with. My experience holding a small stake in actm has proven that these statements are mostly fair. However Ken's timing and management is terrible enough to tank this company, and he is often too stubborn to realize he his headed down a dead end. He is also one of the very worst communicators I have ever encountered, he over-promises and under-delivers consistently, and continually shifts blame for all failures to some vaguely identified "project managers" and "PR teams" which seem to be outright fabricated persons. As far as I can tell actm entire staff is ken and 2 teenagers (possibly family members) Regarding his fiscal trustworthiness... the jury is still out on that one... but the odds are not in his favor.

I threw some pennies at actm in the beginning and now it looks like those pennies were wasted, but...pennies. Unless you have solid insider information, you have very little to go on in terms of viability of any given offering. Due diligence will only get you so far when there is so little known about the principals involved, and only greedy fools throw large amounts at untried entities hoping they will win the lotto, they have no right to bitch, its their own damn fault they are losing their shirts. I really believe most of these supposed lawsuits that get discussed in this sub are empty threats made by butthurt gamblers hoping to light a fire under the operators' arses. Do any of them believe they will get even one satoshi after they get lawyers involved? If they have that large a stake in any of these "securities" then they are obviously not smart enough to know how things work.

All the same, I would love to see actm pull itself together and make my pennies shine...I'm saving up for a piece of dubble bubble ;-)

@gogxmagog Nice post.  I would love to make your pennies shine.

Too bad you will never do it.
