It's fine as it is
2902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin will visit the CIA on: August 06, 2012, 02:09:49 PM
As far as i know the "master key" is only for messages. Anyway, the client is opensource so it's not like they can hide a code that will let someone control everyone  Cheesy
2903  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with my GPUs when ASIC arrives? on: August 06, 2012, 01:55:12 PM
Well this means nothing. Maybe they were ppl who bought enuff bitcoin with dollars to buy the ASIC, for them it doesn't matter if a btc is worth 5 or 10$

Yes, buying them at 5 and waiting until they are at 10 and then buying the ASIC is a good idea but it's called speculation. You would need a crystal ball to see the future to do that reliably  Cheesy
2904  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-08-03 MercuryNews.com Virtual currency comes with real threats on: August 06, 2012, 01:50:16 PM
Well FBI cannot say that the dollar is not real money but is just paper  Cheesy
2905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it technically possible for someone to guess a bitcoin address with money in? on: August 06, 2012, 10:56:08 AM
I can do it. I could crack yours within 30mins easy. Me guessing your btc address from scratch would be easier than what you are suggesting!
Troll detected.
2906  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to buy large quantity in cash on: August 06, 2012, 10:50:19 AM

If one *legally* had $200,000 in USD paper, how would such a person get it across national borders? Might be easiest to buy $200k in coins, move to the new country, then repurchase the USD.

I think the issue might be getting around the currency restrictions which are in place in some South American countries.  Buying OTC means there'd be no record of the cash entering the Bitcoin system or of the Bitcoins being withdrawn - and no concerns about KYC/AML requirements.
And no worries about moving the market. Assuming you can find someone who can buy/sell that many without running to MtGox to offset it.
Nonsense

If you buy 200k$ of bitcoins you move the market, no matter what. The fact that it's OTC means nothing

Use them for science!

That is one project that runs very well on ATI cards!
2909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: August 04, 2012, 09:23:05 PM
I'm curious how many other people like me were folding@home or doing other "free" things with their GPUs or CPUs and now mine. I merely watch, hoard, and exchange my merged mined NMC for BTC. I was already paying for the electricity to fold, so for me anything at all is a bonus
I'm one of that people, but not on folding  Cheesy ATI aren't good for folding!
2910  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How about a "Bitcoin giveaway day"? on: August 04, 2012, 08:58:30 PM
I'm ok to give a bitcoin away, but not for free.

If people can get bitcoins for free, it won't help convincing them that it's money.
+1

Bitcoin have a value, why should we give them away for free? If people want them they should pay for them. If you give away them for free then people will think they are worthless.
2911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: August 04, 2012, 08:46:08 PM
Zhou Tong: Why were there NO BACKUPS of the database?  When I make a website of ANY caliber, I always keep a backup.  I'll save a backup on multiple hard drives on my server so the chance of losing all three or four copies is almost zero.  Even when writing a long email to someone, I'll write it in notepad and save it to my desktop every couple paragraphs because it's SO frustrating to lose even an hour of work on something.

When your website had passed the $1,000,000 volume mark, you don't think it would have been a good idea to back up your database?Huh
THIS

This and the last hack  (the one about the btc and $ that were on mtgox) is why i think the bitcoinica thing is a epic scam.

I understand the first hack, shit happens, but the no backup and the last hack (lol, why the hell did they keep money on an exchange instead of a cold storage??) are SUSPECT.

Hell, i have much much much less btc and i have better backups than them!

Having a billion people trying to trade in Bitcoin at 8 decimal places .000000010 won't work.
It's very easy, just take .00000001 and start calling it 1. The client already support different visualization, go in options and you will find the option to have the client show your amount in BTC or mbTC or uBTC. Problem already solved  Cheesy
2916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Power Blackouts - Does Bitcoin keep on ticking? on: August 04, 2012, 03:04:20 PM

Stop menacing that guy with "scammer label", arrests, illegal and so on  Roll Eyes people take this matter seriously? Then they should seriously start making a proper website lol. Also 5 days for your bitcoins to appear on the website? This is very weird...

and with banks poor people always lose, no matter what  Roll Eyes
2918  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoins Martial Law Proof? on: August 01, 2012, 07:16:33 PM
