2901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 11, 2020, 03:23:37 PM
https://repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/-/merge_requests/168

One small step for Monero, one giant leap for Bitcoin.

This is THE killer app and few really understand the depth of game-chageyness in my opinion.

I don't know how long this will take to really emerge.  But in my opinion this will allow Monero to be Bitcoin's "privacy layer".

Eventually we will see some fairly staunch maximalists starting to wake up to the advantages of letting Monero do this work for Bitcoin thereby allowing Bitcoin to retain it's pristine auditability properties.  Keep an eye on Matt O'Dell.  He is staunchly anti-shitcoin, but he is also bending over backwards to push BTC privacy.  He may be rational enough to realize in the end that Monero really is an exception to the Maximialist's rule.

Monero is poising itself PERFECTLY for this reality.  The tail emission, and the king of CPU mining.  This means Monero is more secure than the average shitcoin.

I was among the folks who was disappointed that we chose to add the tail emission.  In fact I was FIRMLY against it.  And still recognize it came at a cost.  The biggest of which was the change to the social contract, and putting Monero among the cryptocurrencies that have shown that unlike Bitcoin, the more centralized leadership can change the financial contract thereby putting a dent in the store of value property of Monero.

That said, not only will the tail emission do what it is good for, keeping the mining of Monero rolling, but in the same way that Monero can do privacy on behalf of Bitcoin, Bitcoin can do SOV for Monero.  This will leave monero to concentrate on it's killer app feature.  Allowing seamless flow between these two currencies will be pretty magical.  You can sacrifice auditability and SOV stuff for privacy and then come back as you please.

I have always seen a symbiotic future for these two projects, and am very pleased with the way this is coming together.

Monero is so far ahead of anything else in the privacy game... it will remain useful and valuable for quite a while.

When these realities start to become more obvious to the masses we will start to see fairly significant price moves, IMHO.

Adding to this analysis with confirmed math and science:

Since we are entering the "Epoch of Unscience" I can confirm that this analysis of Analysis is moot.

big fight for 10k

The fight for 20k will be much bigger.

I dunno...   it certainly could be.  Or it could be like the last time we flirted with 1k.
2904  Economy / Speculation / Re: [WO] #9636 “proudhon” on: September 09, 2020, 06:16:38 PM

Fake news. The true news is bitcoin is crashing.

Proudhonk, you consider drastic bitcoin price movements as news to WO?
Interesting...

And so my ignore list is growing again.

It is SAD to ignore Proudhonk in my humble, confirmed, opinion.

So I went to go respond to that "The WO thread is mean and a big merit circle jerk" thread, but it looks like I can only WATCH it.

I wanted to give my opinion...  what gives SwayStart?

So pretty much a terrible thursday

See August 1st, 2016. BTC/USD.

(Then see what happened next).

That's actually about right I'd say...

the "Maximalists" are currently too busy trying to explain why INX is "different" than so many other ERC20s

A lot of Bitcoin luminaries have lost A LOT of credibility over the past couple weeks, as far as the Twittersphere is concerned, over INX.

This is a good thing.

Kill your heroes.

EDIT: Also, I'm starting to get the fear. Bigly.

Could not agree more.  Even blockstream has taken a good dent over this.  I am glad.  The "Bitcoin Community" is something bitcoin will also have to defeat eventually.

I also quote this post for future reference but you didn't mentioned anything what is your thought on that upcoming fork. My opinion is that the same story will be repeated like BSV and now it will be interesting to accumulate to maximize the profit and get more coin through that airdrop.

I followed the first Bcash Civil War quite steadfastly and I can tell you it wasn't profitable for anybody involved. At least not for a long time. The price of BCH days before the BCH/BSV fork was higher than that of BCH + BSV for a long, long time. So while in the long run it could be a profitable endeavor ("could", frankly I'm not sure it will ever be so), you'll need an awful lot of patience in order to experience it.

This time around one of the Civil War generals isn't pretending he is Satoshi, however, so, I dunno, the entire thing looks bad and I wouldn't plan on banking on the split being profitable.

For better or worse, I'd say this development plays into the faketoshi/BSV camp fairly well.  It automatically gives the a lift in the illusion of legitimacy.

It's sad that ANY of this happened, but it was also inevitable.  Free Open Source Software + World monetary system = biggest opportunity for scammers ever in the history of the world.  And these people will go down in history as a footnote in exchange for forever having the reputation of a liar and scammer.
2910  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 03, 2020, 02:05:01 PM

The problem with this advice is the "Maximalists" are currently too busy trying to explain why INX is "different" than so many other ERC20s and why it's sad that the "bad people" made it hard for the "good people" to run a scam.  Umm, I mean contribute to a legitimate blahblah token.

Trying to PM Bawb.  But his deletion spree has downgraded him to no PMs.  Heh... that''s one strategy.

Nice equipment, but I have everything I need presently. Thanks for thinking of me.

No prob... and I did not expect that you, with impeccable opsec, would be interested.. But if you know someone in the metroplex that might be let me know.  It's hard to sell a heavy mid format console.  The other bits will be easy.

I am replacing this stuff with a Behringer piece. lol.  SSL converters, to Behringer Wing.  In so many ways NOT an upgrade!  It'll be quieter than the Toft at least.

But since I can't PM him I will just type this here... I have some interesting audio gear for sale... any of you live near Dallas and want to buy some good stuff here it is:

Toft ATB 24 - 3500
SSL Alphalink Madi-AX 24 channel converters - 1500
MOTU M64 MADI to USB interface - 400

The whole thing all at once - 4k, why not.

PM me if you want details... I am already wrecking my opsec enough as it is.

Obviously I'll take bitcoin. Smiley

By the way... I think Greg Maxwell did a better job summing up my feelings on the whole "maximallists" shilling INX thing here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5271424.msg55090841#msg55090841

Such a good job I did a giant merit blast at him.

I find it one of the most depressing things in the bitcoin world all year.  Perhaps I put more trust in the "thought leaders" and personalities than I knew.  In my opinion Blockstream has taken a good size dent from this whole thing with the positions that it's leaders have taken.  I cannot help but wonder if Pieter Wuille leaving for Chaincode Labs had any basis in this sort of crap.

And I am not even a maximallist.  I am just anti shenanigans.  And that's what this garbage is in my humble opinion.

The question is, why aren't you though?

"Bitcoin maximalism" isn't just about those who have a stake in BitcoinTM believe everything else is a scam; it's about the belief that Bitcoin is so complete in the functionality and security it provides, that no other crypto coins are necessary to even exist. Period.

Therefore creating shitcoins, shilling them, owning them, or even trading them is defacto stupid and pointless. And those that do are regarded with a loss of trust and common sense at best, and at worst are seen as complete scammers.

An analogy would be in the Precious Metals world, but a world in which a constant supply of laboratory-created "fool's gold" metals were created, shilled, owned and traded on the open market. Why even do that when you can just own Gold or Silver? The only people that will gain anything by creating and shilling fake metals would be the scammers that created them.

Well you pretty much nailed it.  I am a BITCOIN MAXIMALIST the the extent that I believe bitcoin will be the only bitcoin.  And also is the next bitcoin... and the last bitcoin.  And I think well known maxi's being paid a quarter of a mill in shitcoins to promote shitcoins is net harmful.  But what I do NOT believe is that there are no other crypto projects that are worthy experiments or fill roles bitcoin cannot or will not.  Just that the VAST (over 99%) majority of them are useless at best and scams at worst.

So that's it I guess...  I'm still not a maximalist... But it seems I am more of one than Adam Back for example.

You know Greg Maxwell still has a shitcoin address in his profile here.  I suppose I am about as much a maxi as he is...

...so you tell me.

Bob's like the third ragequit I have seen lately in a number of widely different forums. Is everyone just starting to go fucking insane from this Covid and election season?

On a related note, I got back from a medical appointment with a specialist earlier this afternoon, who is big into epidemiology, and she off-handedly mentioned the world should start returning to "more normal" in about May, with respect to COVID19 starting to have a waning impact on daily life.

Taking it with a grain of salt, but praying there is some truth with her experience.

If you had written me off as you suggest, you would not be mentioning me so frequently.

I enjoy playing with poop.

Sue me.

May?  Like 2021?  I have hoped for sooner...

How about April?

I guess you gotta take what you can get... :/

I think there is a chance the aftermath of the US election is gonna make Covid look quaint.  I can't believe I am saying this... but I am hoarding ammo.  Really.

Which DAW is that ? Don't immediately recognize it. I'm a Steinberg whore.

It's a new purchase, and one I am exceedingly delighted with.  It's Bitwig.  Obviously inspired by Ableton Live, but it's hallmarks are being crazily modular in every way imaginable with both standard linear tracking as well as algorithmic  pattern based stuff, or a combo.

That picture is its sampler.  It is very simple, but extremely well thought out at the same time.  In fact that is the sort of theme of the whole thing.  It does NOT have all the features of the top end DAWs but what it does do is amazingly simple and intuitive.  I'd say it is both minimalist, and incredibly tweakable.  I tried Live several times over the years but it just never clicked.  For some reason this one did.

I used so many DAWs over the years.  In fact I did a lot of work in both Cubase and Nuendo.  Both such solid pieces of software.  I also went through a Samplitude period, and had Logic before Apple bought it.  In the end I did most of the work in my studio (when it was still my job) in Sonar believe it or not.  In fact I was a contributor to it.  I made all the impulse responses it came with.  But my close #2 was Reaper.  And now in the wake of the death (sort of) of Sonar, if I do anything in a traditional multitrack setting it's in Reaper.

Oddly the only DAW I never used much was Pro Tools... lol.  I mean I could get around it it, just like I knew what a pair of Mackie HRs sounded like... (But i use Dynaudio).

But the workflow and built in instruments and effects in Bitwig are delightful.

Here's something I am currently scratch-padding out... no mix yet, all ideas. https://sndup.net/854h/TheWater.ogg
