A lot of biotech firms are looking into stem cell therapies because stem cells are the closest humans will ever get to being immortal. And interestingly enough, we already see immortal organisms that exist: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120227152612.htm

Planarian worms can literally regenerate itself despite being cut into a 1/279 piece of itself. Imagine this sort of stem cell technology being applied to humans who might be able to regenerate limbs or dead neural cells? This sort of tech isn't just limited to billionaires. Humans have the opportunity to transcend nature.

Right now, one of the biggest studies for extending life, is to lengthen telomeres system-wide. If this could be done in a person's whole body at the same time, life could be extended indefinitely. Later on, new findings could be applied to make things work even better.

Telomere. A chromosome is essentially a long, long piece of DNA that has really wrapped up and compacted on itself until it looks like the structure you probably picture when I say chromosome. The problem is that the long piece of DNA has two ends, and they're just hanging out there loose. A lot of things could go wrong if those ends aren't protected. They could get cut off, or they could join onto other loose DNA ends, which would be a problem for the cell. Telomeres are how cells protect chromosome ends. The telomere itself is a long stretch of a specific short DNA sequence repeated over and over hundreds of times. At the very end of the telomere is a sort of knot not called the "T-loop," which keeps the chromosome ends from all sticking together. Every time a cell divides, some of those telomere repeats get cut off. So in certain cell types that divide a lot, an enzyme called "telomerase" adds those repeats back so the telomere doesn't get too short.

Looks like SCOTUS shot down the Brunson lawsuit

So to summarize the Kraken so far:

- Audit of Maricopa county concluded that Biden definitely won and with a few more votes than the official number)
- Massive lawsuits are ongoing with Dominion suing people like Sydney powell and Fox News for billions for spreading lies that they knew were lies about them.
- Election deniers got stomped in the mid terms.
- Only serious proven fraud that has has been uncovered involved an attempt to count fake electoral votes was committed by Trump and his supporters.
- It's very possible Trump is charged criminally any day now.
- Biden is the president.  (and becoming a two term president more likely now than it was a year or two ago)

And now this joke of a lawsuit has proven once again that BADecker is the crazy one.  Not everyone else.

The Brunson's are appealing for reconsideration.

The Brunson lawsuit has a format that can be followed for anybody who feels he was disenfranchised by Congress, to be able to use the newly adjudicated right to sue any government agent.

It might be happening slowly, but people are starting to wake up and use their rights. The Brunson lawsuit is showing them how.

Cool

EDIT: Let me mention. A lawsuit is one lawsuit. If you have 388 people named in your lawsuit, and it is found that only one of them was not guilty but the rest of them were guilty, the whole suit can be thrown out based on its failure regarding that one innocent person. The suit is one.

In other words, this suit should be brought by many people against one of the 388 at a time.
2923  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe religion is a setback in African development? on: January 12, 2023, 11:01:10 PM
Religion that was brought into African countries has significantly influenced her culture and civilization.

Religious practices and beliefs have both been a source of strength and solidarity for societies as well as a barrier to development and progress in some cases in African countries. The influence of religion on African nations is complicated and can vary depending on some factors of the religious and traditional practices involved.

Our primary religion as Africans particularly as Nigerians is a traditional belief, while other religions like Christianity and Islam have been introduced to African nations.

The harm and division that religion has brought about in African nations are unimaginable to her growth.

Again, the point you bring up is only a surface point. It is certainly a notable point, but it isn't the most important point. The important point has to do with which traditional belief, and if it ultimately gives eternal life. If it doesn't provide eternal life, it isn't the best.

In Axum, in Ethiopia (Africa), there is a 'church' that houses what they believe to be the sacred Ark of the Covenant from Ancient Israel. If this is the traditional religion you are speaking about, you are in the right direction, sort of.

...

According to their research the Ark was taken out of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem during the reign of Manasseh where it was first taken to a Jewish colony on Elephantine Island in Egypt.

...

Other traditions say that this was only a copy, made by Solomon, to keep the real one from falling into the hands of kingdoms that were fighting against Israel.

Whatever traditional religions are in Africa, Judaism (which became Christianity for some people) has been African religion for over 3,000 years (Formal Judaism started with Moses in Egypt.), and is the oldest religion of any significant size in Africa... considering that the Christian religion bases itself on Judaism.

Won't work. Requirements for everlasting life are too complex. After all, science has barely begun to accept the idea that there is a soul and spirit. Even if the physical body has been kept alive forever, will the connection between it and the soul/spirit always remain, as well? We are far from understanding things like this, and they may not even be something we can understand.

Besides, when the connections are weakened, there are evil spirits that want to get in and take over both body and soul, right?

Cool

They might try to keep thier bodies immortal but it would be difficult to keep the brain and soul alive. Each time science try to make advancement that would make them equal with God, they keep on facing some unsurmountable obstacles that points them to the fact that there is a Creator.

One of the advantages of this quest for immortality is that it would advance the frontier of the scientific and health field because these billionaires would invest money to fund researches. And these discoveries would not only benefit them, but the common men on the streets would also benefit from it. I don't think anyone would achive the feat of unveiling the mystery of life and death.

Good point. However, the machinery of the universe works for both, the good and the bad.

The American white tail deer lives 10 years to 20 (20 in captivity sometimes). The point is that people can use wisdom and science to extend their lives on average.

Probably there are some plants in the jungles of South America that, if they were consumed, would extend life by many years. Grocery stores, and farmers' fields only have a limited variety of plants. And many of them are not used to their full capacity for extending life.

But what can one expect when the leading members of the medical - the people with the money - are always looking for ways to keep us sick so they can make money off us?

If some phytonutrients of some plants could keep me bouncy and fresh as a 26-y-o, I would probably want to keep on living. Maybe some billionaires are working on this right now.

U.S. Supreme Court Rules Unanimously You May Sue Government Agents for Damages When They Violate Your Individual Rights

https://ij.org/press-release/u-s-supreme-court-rules-unanimously-you-may-sue-government-agents-for-damages-when-they-violate-your-individual-rights/
In a unanimous opinion issued today by the U.S. Supreme Court, and authored by Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, the Court ruled in Tanzin v. Tanvir that individuals may seek damages as a remedy when federal officers violate their rights. The opinion closely tracks an amicus brief submitted by the Institute for Justice.

The case involved FBI agents who retaliated against Muslim-Americans and green-card holders who followed the dictates of their faith and refused to cooperate with the FBI by spying on their own communities. As a result of their refusal to cooperate, these individuals were placed on the No Fly List, which caused significant hardship, such as the inability to travel to visit family or for work. Luckily, Congress provided a statutory authorization to sue for violations of religious rights, allowing a plaintiff to receive "appropriate relief against the government."

Not surprisingly, in the lawsuit against the FBI agents, the government argued that the words "appropriate relief" do not include damages. According to the government, damages might be an appropriate remedy against private actors, but damages should not be allowed if the person who violated your rights happens to work for the government.

The Institute for Justice filed an amicus brief arguing against this radical notion. IJ's brief outlined how suits for damages against government officials are the historical cornerstone of government accountability, how damages are often the only way to vindicate constitutional rights, and how none of the government's policy justifications against damages have a basis in reality. IJ further explained that matters of policy should be left to Congress, not courts.

Do you agree with these efforts by the richest persons in the world to become immortal? What are the benefits and drawbacks of it if it actually occurs, given that the richest men in the world are currently making more efforts to have it happen? Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin,
You would not blame them for trying, if you had as much money, resources and influence as they do, you may also fancy the idea of immortality. I wish that these billionaires can have another look at what immortality really means. Apart from what we know that it means never dying, someone can also be immortalized by their creations, innovations and brilliant life changing ideas, and some of these billionaires have already done that. If you look at Elon Musk for instance, due to his creations, he will be talked about for a very long time even after his death, just like we still hear the names of some other great men who have lived in the past.

Of course, if he is smart, he will find a way to stay alive for hundreds of years. He won't tell anyone, but will simply fade out of public life, making it look like he died somewhere along the line.

America's gun problem doesn't come from people having guns. It comes from cowardly Americans not exercising their gun rights.
-cut-
That's some mental acrobatics. Please tell me again why there are so much gun violence in US because there are not enough guns.
And while you are on it, try to explain why it's low in places that have strict gun control laws.

Places that need guerilla warfare, problem wasn't the guns. Problems are way more complex but i understand that you want to simplify complex issues.

And you can pretty much compare US right wing gun nuts to taliban. They tend to have strong religious views, don't respect laws and strong views about "morals" while also they like to restrict freedom of women.

US is so freakishly funny about their concept of "freedom" that basically only comes back to guns. With a 2 party system and anything but free healthcare, when they have potential for so much more.

Okay, I'll say it a different way. If everybody had guns in the public, how long would a mass shooter last? Not long. And there wouldn't be many mass shooters, because to be a successful mass shooter, one needs to find a place where he will last long enough to do his mass shooting. Most will chicken out before attempting the job... if they know that they will be shot down almost immediately. Whatever principle in their life dictates to them that they have to go on a killing spree, would also show them that they wouldn't be successful. But they want success, in this thing if nothing else.

So, what would they do? Some of them would still try, if they had a personal death wish along with it. Others would just commit suicide. And it's a shame that there are people who have mental problems like that. But they would be gone, and society would be better without them.

Without guns, there wouldn't be freedom. Why? Because government still has guns. And government would figure out ways and reasons to take freedom away from the people. How do we know? Look what the Taliban has done to their country. And in the US, look at the many laws the politicians make, designed to take away gun freedom, even though foundational US law is that we can have guns (2nd Amendment). They want to enslave us.

In the US, look at how far it has gone already with government. People think that their President is a dictator - almost a king. If he says they should get a Covid vaxx that will destroy their lives, they do it just to obey him... rather than checking the data to see if it is correct. It's a good thing that a bunch of people recognize the benefits of keeping guns.

^^^ Note that all setbacks or advancements in Africa are personal as well as being societal.

Everybody dies, both the religious and the non-religious.

Without religion, personal setbacks are great. Why? because there is no hope of eternal life in Heaven. Without religion, there can only be eternal life in Hell... though many people without religion don't realize this.

With the right religion there will be life in Heaven after death (after the Resurrection). So, there is at least advancement rather than setback for some.

Advancement for Africans in this life, with no religion at all, means setback for eternal life for all Africans. Keep the religions, because some will be saved that way.
Cool
This is such a lame excuse. And what if you have chosen the wrong religion? Or what if your specific sect of countless different christian sects is wrong? What if there's an afterlife but only atheists get in?

But wait, you have a point, you are right, i see the light now. I now regret my atheist views and choose a to be religious instead. My religion of choice will be a Satanist as that's closest to my heart.
Thanks for opening my eyes. It's great to share a religion with you. Except you are on the side of Lord's sheeps am i am on side with a rebels that think themselves.

That was sarcasm if it was unclear.

When you get into the definitions of 'religion', you will find that 'religion' also means 'personal religion'... the things a person believes that are different than those of anyone else. So, your religion of atheism is acceptable as a religion, even if its doctrines aren't expressed clearly and concisely anywhere. But if they are, it is even a stronger religion.

One of the strongest points for recognizing that there might be truth to eternal life is, recognizing that all people are religious beings, and have a religion going for themselves no matter what they believe.

Some of the luckiest Africans are those who were brought up from childhood in the true religion that really does give eternal life in Heaven for following it. Why are they lucky? Because it's easy to teach a child, indoctrinating him into whatever religion. Since the religion meant here is the true religion that truly gives eternal life, that's why they are lucky.

Of course this doesn't mean that they CAN'T be tempted to some other religion, one that is only beneficial for this life. But at least they have a head start with childhood training in the eternal-life religion. Why? They last forever with that religion, even if they have to die here for a while.

Just because the religion of someone else says that such eternal-life religion is false, that doesn't necessarily make it false. After all, when the things of a particular religion are proven to be real, the religion starts to come out of the designation of religion, and into the laws of nature and physics, or simple living.

Wrong. Science doesn't acknowledge the existence of soul or spirit. Even the religious circles can debate on the definition of the concept and everyone in those circles seem to have their own views.
Maybe some mentally deranged scientists do believe on that but their research on proving something so vague wouldn't hold any water.

Much of what you say is based on your own wishes rather than scientific experimentation. That being said, since it's very difficult to scrutinize the unscrutable, there isn't very much factual info, yet... except for the very fact of personal identity.

Russian general "Armageddon" Surovikin, who was supposed to turn the shitshow around but ended up giving up Kherson and wasting missiles on transformers, has been demoted from the position of the commander of the "special operation". The new commander is Valery Gerasimov (Chief of the General Staff), who seems to get a lot of hate in the Z-channels for alleged corruption and incompetence. I doubt this will improve anything for the Russian forces. Maybe Gerasimov will be the fall guy.

NATO in Serbia did nothing but wasted missiles on transformers, bridges, buses, hospitals etc for weeks...and it worked in the end

So is this how is supposed to work?
Any politician can bring any document they want back home even after their term is over?
Why do not people from the National Archaic notice these kind of breaches in their security and try to retrieve those documents as soon as possible? It looks like negligence at this point. Don't they have a registry?

This is something I would expect to happen here in my country, where the president does whatever he wants and nobody questions him.

Well, actually, it's the other way completely. There shouldn't be any secret documents. Everything should be visible to any and all of the people who want to know. If it worked this way, governments couldn't do things like Covid warfare against the people, and whatever else they were doing conquer and disrupt freedom.

Once the people found the details out, they would legislate the conquering minds out of government.

However, the people can be pretty stupid. In America, people pay off their bank loans twice. And when they are shown this by all the banking pamphlets, and all the money websites, they still don't believe it, but keep on paying off their loans twice.

Self defence ≠ open carry automatic weapons

But how do you defend against the military and the police without a gun? And especially when you meet a rogue or vicious cop?
-cut-
Military or police would be pretty lame if you could make them back down if you just had a gun. And good luck getting in a gunfight with a police and explaining how that was a fault of the cop.
I can see zero changes that going your way. In a best outcome you would just be brushed off as a person who did suicide by cop. But i totally understand the conspiratard fantasy of being in a control or a hero.

And people in US are asking why they have a gun problem. It's because of attitude like yours. You don't have a gun problem in countries where they are only used for hunting.

Heard of guerrilla warfare? Consider the IRA or the Taliban (who seem to have won, btw.). Guns in the hands of the people. If ALL the people had carried guns, the IRA would have won, and the Taliban wouldn't have.

Gun freedom in one major country of the world is something that sets the whole world in a certain mindset. Whatever country you are from, there will be a lot of people who understand the idea of gun self-protection. And it is this freedom ideal that government leaders realize exists among their people, and so they act with restraint. That is the second major reason why countries with no gun freedom have real freedom.
The major reason, of course, is that government people can't get rich off their people if the people are always living in fear. Fearful people don't work with enthusiasm. So, government plays the game of making them think they are free, while enslaving them as much as they can for the wealth they will produce that can be taxed.

Gun freedom in one major country produces the world mindset of freedom. It's why the US is the major country in the world, and Britain is second. Not that Britain has gun freedom now. But that when they did, they became powerful, even though their strength is wearing off.

America's gun problem doesn't come from people having guns. It comes from cowardly Americans not exercising their gun rights.

Think of it the other way. If everybody were required to carry at least a .38 in public (except the kids, of course), all the people would respect each other, because nobody wants a gun battle. Everybody would know that if he started a gun battle - or a shooting spree - he would be dead. Gun problems would evaporate because problem makers would be dead. People would be awake.

Siberia (part of Russia) has enough resources to support a far larger Russian population, and to make war materials or anything else for Russia.

The thing that converts raw materials into products are people with knowledge of how to do it. This is the only thing stopping Russia... not enough people to do it.

Allowing self-defence such as carrying a gun legally will just make people fearsome about making a commotion. People with bad intentions can use self-defence to assault someone legally by just provoking there target. I believe you will not need self-defence if guns are not allowed to carry by anyone except by the police and other military units. US violence increases tremendously when guns become legal in some states. Putting the law into the hand of there own citizens to decide when to shoot or not is really a bad decision. They should just improve there police and monitoring unit to provide a better safety rather than a self-defence mechanism that involves gun.

But how do you defend against the military and the police without a gun? And especially when you meet a rogue or vicious cop?

Musk is using twitter to show us much of the bad, hidden stuff that government has been doing over the last two years. If gun freedom in the US were gone, government would run right over us all, and convert the whole world into outright slavery.

More gun freedom is what keeps us free. In addition, you can find all kinds of times when a good gunner shoots a bad shooter who is on a killing spree, because he illegally obtained a gun.
