2921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice to buy bitcoin, i am new in cryptp..many doubts on: November 17, 2020, 01:29:10 AM
You have to start slowly but in a good movement.

Bitcoin's Whitepaper
[General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?

You should choose non-custodial wallets that help you have control on the keys or mnemonic seeds of your wallets. Most of crypto exchanges only give you custodial wallets that you should not use. With custodial wallets, the keys or the seeds are hold and controlled by exchanges, not you. If they want to run away (shut down or scam exit) or their exchanges are seized by governments, your bitcoin is lost.

Learn to verify wallets:
Verifying Bitcoin Core
How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum

Download non-custodial wallets
Bitcoin Core: https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/
Electrum: https://electrum.org/#download

Verify wallets and store your bitcoin on non-custodial wallets if you don't want to trade bitcoin. Never store your bitcoin on exchanges if you don't trade it.

Electrum (SPV) is lighter and easier for you to use.

People really should be given a warning about plagiarism as obviously not all plagiarism is equal. There's obviously a huge difference between someone who comes here and tries to milk signature campaigns or farm accounts by using someone else's postings either from this forum or elsewhere but if someone just posts an incorrectly quoted/sourced answer from google to a question someone asked then that really shouldn't be the end of their account. A warning or at the very most a short temp ban should be enough.
Warning is for newbies who don't read rules, don't know where to read rules or read but don't know the rule of plagiarism. With users are in the forum for a while and are Sr. Members, Hero members or Legendary members I don't agree they need warnings.

Quote
Obviously most of us know that plagiarism is wrong but sometimes it's just down to naivety more than anything and a lot of time won't be done with malicious intent with or without a signature. We also really need to get that welcome message sorted where users are urged to read the rules or are given a handful of the most important ones upon sign-up. That alone would stop a lot of this from ever happening.
Roger it, naivety is for newbies not for Hero members 'bitcoinst' abusing signature campaign with alt account & spamming by copy-paste

If you create a new Gmail account, the safest prevention for you to avoid account loss is linking a new gmail account to your main email account. Your main email account will have its role as a recovery email for you (if you lose your device, password).

It can help you if you send the welcome email from Google in new gmail account to your main email. The welcome email has details you might need for recovery.

The main gmail account needs to be secured certainly.

Epochtalk parser poll ! Come and vote your preference

As someone who occasionally goes on niche topic research binges during which I (on the regular) stumble upon numerous forums who have clearly undergone lackluster migrations (broken post markup, broken links, etc.), I'm gonna go with option 1. Adding any sort of complexity to a migration process (e.g. multiple markup languages, one way conversions on edit, etc.) is bound to break something as well as increase the ongoing cost of maintenance. And for what? A subjectively "easier" markup language (with potentially less features)?

Most people that use the forum either don't use any BBCode, use light styling touches (bold, italic, etc.) or know BBCode in and out and style their threads to the maximum extent the system allows. Those that either don't use BBCode or only do light styling aren't suddenly going to change their behavior and go all out with their posts / topics just cause they can use Markdown. And the users who put in massive amounts of effort into their content (which BTW includes complex signatures that often heavily rely on mountains of parser implementation quirks) will not only (potentially) have their old content mangled but have to learn the ins and outs of a new language as well as any specific implementation tricks of the Markdown parser to achieve anything even close to what they were able to previously.

First, no hybrid please. Meaning the same post should have only one type of formatting applied to it. The current system tries to do bbcode and markdown at the same time and it ends up doing stuff like disappearing comments from code boxes.

Second, bbcode needs to be migrated 1:1. No matter how ugly the code is, run php in the backend if you must, it just needs to work. With all the quirks, like the squished first column in tables. Same styling/colors too. There's too much good old content dependent on all those bbcode quirks - it would be a shame to have it mangled.

<...>

And there should be shortcut buttons for everything - from bold text to tables. We can't expect everyone to remember all codes, be it bbcode or markdown.
Completely agree.
2925  Economy / Gambling / Re: Chips.gg |🎰 New Slots Weekly |🎰 New Provider NetEnt on: November 16, 2020, 01:32:34 AM
Secondly unlike other websites out that takes all their entire profit for themselves, chips.gg puts their profit into The Vault and gave it back to the players that have chips staked . As for now, The Vault has over $18k on it which means they are going to give around $9k back ( $4500 for the team and players who staked their chips will get $4500 ).
One chip has a value of $45. You can visit the Vault page and see the value of one chip at bottom right corner.
https://chips.gg/games/home?modal=Vault&tab=tokenomics

$45 is a little rise from $43 for one chip in September.

No, Vault in chips.gg and stake.com are totally different. In stake, it serves no other purposes except to keep your funds locked in.

The Vault on chips.gg distribute 50 % of the house profit every 12 hours to everyone that locked their 'chips' onto The Vault based on the percentage of the total locked 'chips' on The Vault

To get the 'chips' , you have to wager and currently every $43 wagered will give you 1 chips

In my viewpoint, if the copy-paste newsletter is quite educative and informative and it has a source link. I find no offense to merit the post.
Remember, merits are been given out when a wonderful post is made or share with
After that post, I am not discussing about merit with copy paste topic.

What you brought to the discussion with this post is not exact.
I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

A topic is plagiarism and after the post to announce it is plagiarism. People ignored the announcement and made their posts.

Why did they not read the plagiarism announcement post? I am speechless.

They try to fake quality by ignore quote brackets or quote blocks put link at the end and write a few words (that shorter than what they copy and paste) to legalize post. I did not know the Verbatim plagiarism after I search with Google and see that article.

Even link is provided, it is verbatim plagiarism.

You said you stored your info on Google Drive, Dropbox and you will be fucked again. I hope you won't but you could clear all files on Google Drive, Dropbox if they are backup of your passwords, 2FA.
2931  Other / Meta / Re: If you see a copy-paste topic from newsletters on: November 15, 2020, 06:43:02 AM
I will give merit if it's an important news article which I might not have found even if it's from a news source.

If an article is readily available on public domain, then that user wouldn't have posted it in the first place. If they did, that means they are making it easier for to find the useful information early and if it's valuable information I'll give merit.

But, if it's readily available and a news that is really not important then I'll just ignore the post.
Hi iamsheikhadil. Do you think I discussed about merit?  Huh

Your post is off topic. I did not discuss merit in today post. I discussed ways to copy and paste and do not abuse it to fake quality.

A Guide to Plagiarism and Paraphrasing
Quote
Verbatim plagiarism: You copy someone else’s work word for word.

How to Avoid Plagiarism
Quoting: If you don’t want to alter a source, use quotation marks to enclose all verbatim phrases.
The forum has a quote block and it can be used rather than quotation marks.

If you makes a book, you can not copy and paste (or steal) all chapters, word by word from another original book. Print it and simply put the original author name or link to original article. Purdueglobal's article says it is Verbatim plagiarism.

Random thoughts

With the article from coindesk https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-options-bullish-put-call-ratio, I takes the first paragraph and want to ask you ways to copy and paste it at best.

The first way is copy and paste a paragraph with a link at the end.

Bitcoin’s options market is in the midst of its strongest bullish sentiment on record as the cryptocurrency rallies to three-year highs.

The six-month put-call skew, or the spread between prices claimed by put options and call options expiring in six months, fell to a life-time low of -21.6% early Thursday, according to data source Skew.

A call option gives the holder the right but not the obligation to buy the underlying asset at a predetermined price on or before a specific date. A put option gives the right to sell.
https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-options-bullish-put-call-ratio

The second way is to insert the paragraph in quote blocks.

What do you like? The second way clearly shows all the words and all the paragraph is not my words.

Although two ways are acceptable (with links, they are acceptable), I like the second way as it clearly shows I don't try to hide which words are mine and which words are copy-paste. The first way can be used to fake that I am writing a quality post.

Should quote block is mandatory if you copy and paste many words (when total words are 100 or 200). Paraphrase is only accepted if you do it with short paragraph. If the paragraph is long, paraphrase is not accepted. I feel it can be applied to copy and paste. Too long, please use quote block.

Electricity is a form of energy. Electricity is the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons and uncharged particles called neutrons.

Internet access is the ability of individuals and organizations to connect to the Internet using computer terminals, computers, and other devices; and to access services such as email and the World Wide Web. Internet access is sold by Internet service providers (ISPs) delivering connectivity at a wide range of data transfer rates via various networking technologies. Many organizations, including a growing number of municipal entities, also provide cost-free wireless access and landlines.

Mobile networks
A cellular network or mobile network is a communication network where the last link is wireless. ... These base stations provide the cell with the network coverage which can be used for transmission of voice, data, and other types of content.

Hello guys...I just want to share with you what happened two days ago. The typhoon Ulysses has ravaged our country especially in our area that time. At the middle of the night where we experienced strong winds and rain when we suddenly lose electric power and at the same time lose internet connection. After a whole night of strong winds and rain, there was high flooding elsewhere but I thank God that we were not flooded in the area where we live. Many people  affected by the flood are asking for immediate help and relief because they are at risk of being flooded. Many friends and relatives are worried but sadly because there was no communication at those times. There is no electricity, no internet, and the signal for mobile network is very weak. You can't connect to anyone because all online connection are down for more than 24hours and even now other places which very affected still no have power supply. I have Ethereum in my wallet and I want to cash out and exchange fiat money to spend and buy our foods but I can’t because there is no electricity anywhere and even the remittance center are affected and cannot process the transaction. You can't even buy food and other necessities online. The situation is very difficult.

Electricity, Internet and Mobile Network are the major important to consider for all online transactions and communications because we are in a new generation which almost everyone uses a computer, phones, and other gadgets which also needs electricity and internet connection. It will further affect our economy and digital currency, business establishments will not be able to operate and transact, those with online jobs will not be able to work, we will not be able to trade, invest, and use bitcoin and other digital currency and crypto currency will become worthless.
Plagiarism.

2934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does China FUD matter anymore? on: November 14, 2020, 01:12:45 PM
Big mining pools are in China but there are very little bitcoin full nodes from China. With 9088 full nodes, total nodes come from China are 186.

If anything bad happens in China, for crypto regulations or for mining pools: shutdowns or restrictions or 51% hashrate centralization, miners will switch to other pools and exchanges will move their main offices and licenses in other nations.

Do you forget the Xi pump last year? After 3 years of FUDs from China, bans on crypto, Xi-news is a nuclear bomb to help bitcoin took off. Don't forget it.

Chapter 5. Wallets (in Mastering bitcoin)

With same seed, you can create a Masterkey, and Child keys then Grandchild keys

Quote
HD Wallets (BIP-32/BIP-44)
Deterministic wallets were developed to make it easy to derive many keys from a single "seed." The most advanced form of deterministic wallets is the HD wallet defined by the BIP-32 standard. HD wallets contain keys derived in a tree structure, such that a parent key can derive a sequence of children keys, each of which can derive a sequence of grandchildren keys, and so on, to an infinite depth. This tree structure is illustrated in Type-2 HD wallet: a tree of keys generated from a single seed.

https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook/raw/develop/images/mbc2_0503.png (the image link can not display)

Figure 3. Type-2 HD wallet: a tree of keys generated from a single seed
HD wallets offer two major advantages over random (nondeterministic) keys. First, the tree structure can be used to express additional organizational meaning, such as when a specific branch of subkeys is used to receive incoming payments and a different branch is used to receive change from outgoing payments. Branches of keys can also be used in corporate settings, allocating different branches to departments, subsidiaries, specific functions, or accounting categories.

The second advantage of HD wallets is that users can create a sequence of public keys without having access to the corresponding private keys. This allows HD wallets to be used on an insecure server or in a receive-only capacity, issuing a different public key for each transaction. The public keys do not need to be preloaded or derived in advance, yet the server doesn’t have the private keys that can spend the funds.
