Its crazy the amount of shit coins that have less than 1 btc volume per day. Only like top 20 are traded. Seems like there are a lot less people trading now days :S

Also a lot less people mining, lots of "hardly used" GPUs for sale.  Cheesy

Shocked Too much 54.XX.XX.XX, some variety please, use something else than Amazon to host your masternodes.

Soon as someone writes instructions for something else!

Actually it wasn't too bad. Hopefully have another three up soon, want to see if the first goes down in flames first...  Cool

TIL:

Purpose:
Port 0 is officially a reserved port in TCP/IP networking, meaning that it should not be used for any TCP or UDP network communications. However, port 0 sometimes takes on a special meaning in network programming, particularly Unix socket programming. In that environment, port 0 is a programming technique for specifying system-allocated (dynamic) ports.

Description:
Configuring a new socket connection requires assigning a TCP or UDP port number. Instead of hard-coding a particular port number, or writing code that searches for an available port on the local system, network programmers can instead specify port 0 as a connection parameter. That triggers the operating system to automatically search for and return the next available port in the dynamic port number range.

Unix, Windows and other operating systems vary slightly in their handling of port 0.

edited my post above:

darkcoind both machines version 100603, getinfo on the local box lists me as BOTH port 9999 and 0 but getinfo on server only lists IP:9999

Whether that has anything to do with what you posted, I'll take your word for it!  Grin

Just noticed getinfo on the server shows balance zero, I assume this is fine, I've rm'd the wallet.dat with the 1000DRK in it serverside, it's generated a new empty wallet on darkcoind start.

edit #26: Just also realised I've had to do no port forwarding or other shennanigans on my home router for this to (I think) work.

@Minotaur26, can you please check if "darkcoind masternode list" shows your masternode ip with port :9999. My ip is in the list, but it shows port 0 and not 9999. Maybe it has to do with the local-and-remote setup?

FYI I've had my node set up both ways and never experienced that.

masternode list shows you aren't the only one though:
"188.226.200.134:0"
"54.193.124.32:0"
"107.170.156.6:0"
"54.178.177.122:0"
"162.243.129.51:0"
"54.193.124.32:0"

Could it be the version of darkcoind? I think this happened to me running version 90202 and I think the latest version is 100603. If you are already on the latest version then I dont know what else could be. Could some of the people experiencing this check on the version with getinfo.

OK, got it working local/server style.

darkcoind both machines version 100603, getinfo on the local box lists me as BOTH port 9999 and 0 but getinfo on server only lists IP:9999

There is no mess.  Huh

Is there a way to hold the masternodes 1000 DRK locally in my regular qt wallet (address 0)? Or can it only be done with the CLI darkcoind? Because I'm struggling to run both at the same time.

Although it would probably be easier for someone to break into my local machine than for someone to acquire the ssl key for the MN running on the Amazon server, (assuming I trust Amazon,) so I'm not sure what advantage "holding" - they live in the blockchain after all, not on any one machine - the DRK locally would really be.

keep your coin
i will not support this if behavior is like teens out there
simple question, no answer, it makes me think something is wrong

First day on the internet?  Grin

Not sure what you meant by your question? X11 is the hashing algo that DRK uses. Your rig(s) draw half the power and run much cooler than scrypt or scrypt-n.

Good luck!

Down to less than 20 DRK / day mining.

Show off! I'm down to 3-4.  Sad

So, with darkcoind version 100603, do I need to do anything else to be receiving payments beginning on the 14th or whenever, or will I need to install an updated version nearer the time? Because I want to set up some more. Be nice to have the wallets local though so going to try that next.

The recent variations of client etc. have left me befuddled.

About security in general, am I right in thinking that in order to steal my precious DRK, an attacker would first have to gain a copy of my key.pem file to log into the Amazon box, then crack the wallet passphrase once they had a copy of the wallet.dat? I keep the key file on a USB stick and the passphrase is good, so I should be OK?

Masternode question:

When I start the masternode with
Code:
darkcoind masternode start mypassphrase
can I then shut the terminal window? I am worried about the wallet passphrase being there in plain sight.

Plus what happens if/when my local box goes offline for whatever reason, does the masternode persist?

Apologies for noobness at this.

And is there a site that lists masternodes, so I can see from elsewhere that it's up and running?

Thanks.

darkcoind masternode start `head -1`

Type your password on the next line. If you do it this way the history will show 'head -1' instead of your password, but the daemon will get your password.

Excellent, thanks boss! Smiley

Yes, you can shut the terminal.

Masternode deamon will run for as long as the server is up.

And is there a site that lists masternodes, so I can see from elsewhere that it's up and running?

Type:
darkcoind masternode list

Thank you. Smiley

One more question: (from darkcoind getinfo)
Code:
"unlocked_until" : 0,

This means the masternode wallet is locked, yes?

I hope that made more sense in Chinese. "We've upped the baksheesh, now leave us the fuck alone."

But hopefully they've come to some sort of arrangement with the powers that be, and PBOC is going to stop with the silly "this week we are really banning bitcoin, maybe!" rumours for now.

Do people understand that PBOC has never made any official announcement saying that they ban Bitcoin? Only official statement was last year when they banned 3rd party payment processors and financial companies from trading BTC, and after that recently they even said that they can't and won't ban Bitcoin in China. Everything else are just rumours.

Yeah the whole thing was a shakedown, and you know who got taken? Clue: the Chinese are used to bluster and bullshit from their authorities, they were buying, not selling.

Expect some actually positive news out of China on BTC soon. Profits will need to be taken...  Tongue

Yes, although the current beta is limited to 10DRK inputs.

What would be ideal is if we could get CNBC talking about Darkcoin.  Even if it was just some joe behind the fastmoney team on the street with a large Darkcoin posterboard saying "DARKCOIN, send money to anyone in the world, instantly and privately."  Or "Screw Paypal!  Only Darkcoin can send money anywhere safely and privately, for free!"
Quote
Yes! Great idea. To throw something out there as well, perhaps western union also would be a good target. There are a lot of people who wire money around the world at a huge premium. Screw paypal is awesome. I use paypal and all the fees to explain bitcoin and darkcoin to people who want the short and curlies on the matter.
Yep, the Mexican and central American communities get robbed daily by Western Union which charges massive fees just to send money to their families in Mexico.  The entire theme would be "SCREW WESTERN UNION!  Manda Dinero a tu familia usando Darkcoin para gratis!"

Problem with this is the current BTC-DRK-fiat bottleneck. With merchant adoption, ie, when you can actually buy (more) stuff direct with crypto, then yes, paypal, WU etc. are well and truly screwed.

p2p darkmarkets with DRK as the currency of choice can and hopefully will do a lot for DRK. People will actually be able to use it.

Everybody hates ebay/paypal. Big opportunity there for DRK.

Is "shorting" another word for selling or can you actually borrow DRK somewhere?

Depends who you know and what you're paying them. Wink
