That is weird: Bitcoin is a lot more stable than Gold in terms of knowing exactly what is up: You can't fake it and there is no mine of gold out there, only 6.25 coins every 10 minutes.

Interestingly, Bitcoin can only be mined on Earth. Gold can be mined from ... a lot of different planets, any other solar system, any other galaxy.

Because of the way Bitcoin is set up with 10 minute average blocks, miners are limited to about 1 minute away from the "center of hash", which happens to be Earth. You can have miners on the moon or in orbit, like some international space station, but you can't have miners more than 1 million kilometers away as that's too far and introduces latency.

It's possible for other planets to use Bitcoin, but they can't mine it, only broadcast their transactions and wait for confirmation. Mars is already too far away, as in terms of Bitcoin, it is more than a block away. It's like 15 minutes to 45 minutes away at the speed of light.

I agree, but the number is off a little.
right now more like 8.13 min (487.6 sec) for 90.829 mil miles (146.175 mil km)
At the minimal distance (54.6 mil km) just above 3 min with maximum at 401 mil km (22.29 min).

We will need to learn how to entangle the martian node(s)... Grin

Why are we talking politics again?
Maybe because btc did not move much in any direction for the last 12 hr...

How about some pictures of your future RE or just nice vistas to spend quality vacation time?
I promised to myself that if I survive covid (with or without a vaccine), I would do some traveling this year, regardless of btc price.

Could this bull run terminate earlier than *expected?  Huh
*expected: late in this year or Q1/2022

think double-hump instead of "early".
2944  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2021, 08:01:19 PM
These Bitcoin swings go almost as fast as COVID-induced fever/diarrhea cycles.

I speak from experience (12 toilet paper rolls down... in 3 days).

That explains earlier widespread shortage of toilet paper...market knows.
2945  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2021, 07:15:35 PM
Realistically the question is how far can it go.

Ie how much wealth can transfer to it.  Easily  1 trillion can shift to btc in the next 15 days.   $711,835,120,885 is what it reads this morning on coinmarketcap.

It could go to $1,711,835,120,885 by the time Biden is sworn in. (if he is sworn in).

I live in the USA.  I am happy I have coin in case I need to leave the USA.

Lots of players are thinking fuck what happens if the USA shit is not over.  I got money that could be frozen.  I know I will get some BTC just in case.

To think that 1 trillion could come in to btc by Jan 20-22 is not crazy.

1 tril actual shift would not result in a 1.7tril market cap.
The price move is ALWAYS a multiple of money moved (by a factor of 10X, typically).
As far as $1.7 tril market cap (that would be just below 100K), it is well within my expected range for the first hump in two-hump scenario that woonomic now favors as well.
Solid money management, albeit, if money can be frozen, then what good would that selling do?
In any case-respect for a conservative money management.
That said, it would be interesting to see if truly big funds (Dalio, Blackrock, etc. ) are actually buying here en masse. We would never know, of course.
My take is the whole system (outside of bitcoin) has become unstable for a moment. Let's see if it would right itself up. I hope that it would.

I have BCH/BSV from forks and Siacoin and Lisk I'm planning on dumping ASAP..but would kinda like BTC to 'plateau' some to catch up don't ya know...

but I do have an amount of BTC via altcoins and such equiv to about 7 BTC or so...I can sell..in that is what I recovered from my 13 BTC sale of 12/24/18

at xmas low for real life issues on that date in 2018. I did get back these 7 BTC out of the 13 BTC or so. So 'ideally' I would be no worse off than I had

in the BTC HODL/Hoard at that date...so likely dibble out the altcoins and 3.8 BTC of above to get back to my 12/24/18 number I sold at $3,900 for real

life issues. This dribble out for real life issues looks to be 'much more' pleasent don't ya know Smiley Nice bit of profit along the way for 2 years and about 1.5 months. Smiley

Brad

I am totally not into forks, but at least one of them might pop, so good timing might be important.
That said, don't listen to me as i waited until 1.1K to sell some of the "forked" stuff instead of doing it at 3-4K.
Who cares now, though.

censorship will not be tolerated

The thread had just gotten back on track. We're hitting new ATHs hourly. Lets talk about the 100K party, butts, boobs, rockets, etc. and leave the divisive political stuff out as much as possible. Especially with everyone emotional and fired up.

Good point and seriously: Where *should* we meet at 100k. I think it would be really fun to meet people. I think it would be even more fun if we all got name tags *at random* so no one knew who was who and we had to figure it out. Or better: Not.

(Aw crap, I got "roach!")

how about Valhalla...and before you get scared... of combat and stuff...
I give you..Valhalla: an easy going graduate student pub near Rice University (Houston, TX).
...maybe btc ruffians could score a couple smart students there (of both sexes depending on whatever #nohomo).

To put things in perspective we are still only about 3 months early. So not yet wildly out from a TA perspective.

nice...I say that almost 100% above the trend is pretty wild  Grin

^^(EDIT: what i point to was removed) Can we stop posting this here and "power down" a bit.

That said..I still think that stock market is faking it similarly to how it faked it in Jan 2020.
Bitcoin is seemingly uncorrelated for now.

years ago this guy gave me the confidence that I should not miss the train.

Bitcoin 101 - Why Bitcoin's Growth is Normal & The S-Curves You Could Never See

yep, I watched it too with the same conclusions.
I was mad at missing all that upside in early Google, Twitter, Facebook that our laws prevented me to have invested in early.
Obviously, I would have invested in those, especially Google, if it was possible.
Bitcoin allowed this-to invest at an earlier stage, and I am SO grateful to the protocol for that.
Seeing all those "smart" investors coming in at above many multiples sometimes draws a small internal smile when I compare this with The Google situation.
That said, I missed the Tesla rocketship since I hated Model 3 as a car when I checked it at the dealership-my loss.
I actually considered investing beforehand, but not afterwards, took one for the "team".

not that anybody cares, but the whole crypto-complex, led by bitcoin, cleared $1tril for the first time ever tonight, according to CMC.
btc would do it on it's own at $53,783.68 (if it happens right now).

I think gold parity for Bitcoin is something like $500k.  May have to wait for next cycle for that one.

gold has grown too, now at 12 tril, so more like 570K (if counting from the current issued btc, not 21 mil) and yes, most likely next time, unless...

I predict steady small ups and sidewayses all year till 300k and a low over 100k till the next halvening..

I think reaching gold cap is about 650k..

that low is a tad optimistic. It could happen, but so far, all corrections were 80-90%.
From 300K 80% down is 60K, which would match the prior history perfectly, however, 100K (from 300K) is certainly possible.

It's difficult to quantify this, but broadly:
1. $-lower
2. market-volatile
3. Bitcoin-volatile

maybe buy emerging markets (not tomorrow)?

Just to remind you your last attempts to predict BTC direction failed.  Grin Even now when we're over $36k you're still bearish? What's wrong with you dude?   Grin

actually, as soon as I "predicted" something, btc went from $33.2K to below 28K (20% dip in hours).
You could have BTFD using my comment, alas, you probably did not, but smarter people probably did.
On the other hand, I also said that we are close to the top at 34-128K (within 15 days) .
we are now just 2-3 days into that period.
in general, I have no f-ng idea why i am bearish (from your point of view), which i am not currently, but would be starting at 80-100K (if it happens too soon).

And Bitcoin hits $36k.

This is all fucked.

not at all, just your typical Fourth turning, predicted in 1998.

Anybody knows if Strike app is for real for a regular Joe with a paycheck, or only for VIP personalities?
I am thinking of, maybe, converting 5-10% of my paycheck straight to btc each time.
Of course, i can simply buy on any exchange, then withdraw, but this seems to be much more convenient (as long as their spreads are decent).

https://payday.strike.me/

Apparently, it is Lightning-based.

So, I should open a short position here ? Am I doing this thing right ?

yea, maybe on the stock market.
I bought a bit of SPY puts and VIX calls earlier today, just a taste.

I'm guessing people figure Mitch is out in the Senate, and the money printing machine is about to go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

It's weird. Long ago I would be quite upset at the devaluing of the US dollar. Because my investments were in the dollar, and the mark, and the yen, and all those other BS currencies that would be worth what the powers that be said they were worth. No objective standard, and each time they shaved the edges off the currency mine was worth less.

Now.... Now I have a currency that you can't shave, that you can't inflate, and you can only create exactly 6.25 bitcoins every 10 minutes. That.... makes me feel better about all of this.

Aren't Perdue still ahead by 500 votes or something..I am not watching the circus, checked on fivethirtyeight.
