2941  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The dark secret behind Elon Musk twitter purchase, he need to make himself “look on: December 26, 2022, 11:06:15 AM
He's kinda like the modern Thomas Edison, though at least he can explain in the simplest detail what they are doing, and the specifics of what they just did. Not a lot of credit-grabbers can do what Elon is doing, although of course that doesn't make it right in any way. That is why I laugh whenever people think that SpaceX reusable rocket is his own doing; he has a team of engineers who works day and night in R&D to make it a reality. He has the vision, but he surely does not have all the brainpower to achieve all of that. If he did, he wouldn't really need social media at all and would just continue doing what he does best behind the scenes, creating more and more inventions to make him and his company a lot of money.
2942  Economy / Economics / Re: The fight over electric car batteries on: December 26, 2022, 12:00:00 AM
China is currently leading when it comes to the production of lithium-free (at least that's what they claim to be) battery packs for electric vehicles. The tech is certainly there, but it's way cheaper to slap lithium into a battery pack and expect it to run as flawless as it can be because the process and the design is already established. For sure, EV manufacturers are actively setting their R&D team on fire pressuring them to find a better alternative than lithium, but for now that will be the case and I think people should embrace it whether they like it or not.

But what I don't understand is, why are car manufacturers angry with companies and governments coming up with some solutions to a long-standing problem about vehicle emission and waste? Governments supporting the cause of EV may be concerning to petrol powered cars but not the environment in the long run—if they find a solution to replacing lithium with other minerals that is.
2943  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ️ Esports Prediction & Discussion Thread on: December 25, 2022, 11:48:57 PM
I made a bet on this tomorrow. This is going to be the first game for Nigma with their new roster tomorrow so its kinda bold to be getting -1.5 on them but yeah I really want them to win this tomorrow. ATF is going to be debuting as a carry player tomorrow, imagine leaving Miracle aside for ATF to play with the team though

I think they wouldn't let go of Miracle for Ammar if the former hasn't decided to step off the active roster for a bit. They'd value Miracle more than ATF at this point and if NGX had a choice, they'd surely keep Miracle in the roster. What I'm worrying about is Kuro. The man has very little hero pool, very predictable hero drafts, and an overall lost sense of the previous metas as shown in the previous tournaments/matches. He's no longer on par with Puppey when it comes to drafting and being a pos 5 strategist actively playing for a team. His passion is there but his game sense isn't. which is just sad but understandable since he's getting really old.

Dang I could have sworn that this game was supposed to be played today but then they seems to postpone it to 27th probably due to christmas I'd assume. I was an idiot for not checking it earlier lol and I thought to myself that oh well I dont really need to watch it and as long as Nigma wins the game then Im good because I cant seems to find it on twitch Roll Eyes.

Yup this was moved for tomorrow. Match ticker on gosugamers moved this for 1 day, 12 hours from now.

EDIT: I thought it's already the 26th in forum time. This should be on the 27th lol
2944  Economy / Economics / Re: The poor people with their reasoning on: December 25, 2022, 11:33:59 PM
Used to be my line of thinking before I took the leap of faith and tried investing for my own business. It's really hard to come out of that mindset especially if you were only focused on survival for most of the time. The difference between poor people and those in the middle class is that the former will never have other options but to survive and be practical, whereas the latter will at least have an option to use their money somewhere and can be lavish every once in a while, or use their money in investments without really hurting much of their finances.

While bitcoin may provide people something that they can count on as an investment, it's not a hundred percent certainty that it will always give you positive returns. Better make sure that your investments are for the long term in order to not get hurt by the volatility of your "investment."
2945  Economy / Gambling / Re: making 500-1000usd daily in poker must read i need a partner! on: December 25, 2022, 11:11:47 PM
No one will take you up in this offer no matter how plausible or how great your pitch is. You're basically a nobody in this forum trying to ask strangers some money to support your gambling addiction. You even admitted you have a debt somewhere so that already puts you in a situation wherein it's hard to trust you. Chances are, you will be defaulting that debt and you may even run away with your partner's money should anyone be foolish enough to accept whatever you're offering. If you can make money in poker, why not go get a job and then use your salary to fund your poker journey?  Smiley
2946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you intend to tell loved ones about the bear market? on: December 25, 2022, 03:25:11 PM
Luckily I'm that family member that does not really mingle with other family members unless asked to, and when I'm in a conversation with another family member, I try to be as concise and as short as possible in order to not be their topic just because of what I said. Perhaps if I recommended this crypto investing to a friend, then I can explain that there are a lot of factors that contributed to the current situation of the market. Great emphasis on the Terra scam and FTX funds' misappropriation as I believe these two are the greatest movers of market sentiment that sent us to where we're at right now. If not started by Terra, and not ended by FTX, we could have a great sideways market but eh, they just have to ruin the fun for most of us.
2947  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: December 25, 2022, 03:02:07 PM
If I were a rich man seeking thrill with gambling, I'd take that bet in a heartbeat even when equipped with the knowledge of losing 83% of the time. If this kind of chance would happen only once in a day, and I'm someone that does not really care much about the money and just the outcome, this would be appealing to me. But knowing that I still value my money and I do not believe that it's reasonable for me to take the bet at all. Perhaps with a small amount, but not more than $100.

But say, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I might just toss in a couple hundred and just be done with thinking 'what ifs' and maybe win the bet.
2948  Economy / Economics / Re: Avoid running into financial ruin this Christmas! on: December 25, 2022, 04:43:54 AM
I just dined with the family and slept afterwards. I avoided that conversation regarding cash gifts aside from presents that were wrapped under the tree. I'm sure they'll understand that my finances are very tight albeit earning quite comfortably for the past few years. Luckily I avoided gifting a lot of cash unnecessarily this year, and have kept from withdrawing a large amount just to give it away. Even though it's a once a year thing, we should still check our spending and steer away from irresponsible spending.
2949  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BANKMAN-FRIED PANIC GAMBLES TO REPAY DEBT on: December 25, 2022, 03:49:16 AM
Dude's really pushing his limit at this point, and I think it's no longer okay that the courts are allowing this man to still walk freely and do as he pleases with what little remains of the FTX money. He already showed that he's incompetent in handling a large business, so why entrust him with large sums of money? And the worst, use casinos as an avenue to buy back whatever they lost by misappropriating and mishandling the funds? SBF is making fun of the justice system by his multiple screw ups and being loud about it and not even trying to hide it.
2950  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If your friend would tell you this... on: December 25, 2022, 01:27:55 AM
I'd stick to sports betting and just wait for games that I know fully and bet on them. IMO it's way safer and the risk can be handled even better on a lot of matches. Also, the bet amount that I will be using is conservative if the game that I placed a bet on is something that I'm not a 100% certain, whereas on games that I am confident about the outcome I can go ham and bet as large as I can. Sports betting is, IMO, the only safer way to get that 10k btc further towards the 65k btc mark.

But then I can always disagree to do that on behalf of my friend.
2951  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading With Borrowed Funds!!! on: December 24, 2022, 12:41:09 PM
Rich people always use borrowed funds to expand their businesses. The difference between rich people and average people like us is that they make their debts work for them, and for us we just use it as an extension of our budget or to buy things that won't make us money. Of course. trading with borrowed funds will always be riskier, and this should only be done when you are already established in the industry of trading and you have already amassed enough experience for you to handle such pressure. Same with investing with borrowed funds; it should only be done when you already have a good business model and you're sure that your business will be a hit.
2952  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who is to blame on: December 24, 2022, 11:59:20 AM
Well sooner or later the governments will try and encroach the casino business and impose KYC anyway, and no one is to blame for the government's decision to pass these regulations. It is bound to happen; there is money in online gambling and the government has to make sure that it doesn't become an avenue for money laundering and other illicit activities. Even online platforms don't want to impose these things surely, but even if they refuse they will be obliged anyway, or else have their businesses closed.
2953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who holds 1+ Bitcoin, how does it feel to hold in bear market? on: December 23, 2022, 11:59:14 PM
Doesn't really feel like there's something wrong tbh. I still have those bitcoins in the wallet, and although their price are tanking, its value over time will still be positive. Also since I've been trying to average my buys for years, the current price of bitcoin isn't too far from what my stash is worth / 1 bitcoin. I can basically chill and let the market do its thing while I also have the option to buy more and further bring down the average of my buys if I wanted to (and if I have the extra money laying around that is).
2954  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges in decentralized wallets are unreliable on: December 23, 2022, 11:34:17 PM
That's a painful mistake, and an extremely expensive one at that. The last time I used changelly was in 2021 trying to convert coins just to get the general feel of it. The service is neat and all but again, you still have to read and understand what's going on before making a conversion or doing anything. The fact that they have $3m to begin with and do not understand that there might be troubles along the way tells me that they just got lucky, and that they don't know much about crypto, exchanges, and how these works in general. Awfully expensive mistake, but it's on them not being careful and blindly sending in millions on an exchange that is supposed to only be used in small amounts.
2955  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: December 23, 2022, 11:17:29 PM
They said this is not a serious team, but I am willing to bet they still want to qualify for DIV 1.

They said this because they dont want people to have high expectation on them. They are bunch of talented players stacked together but that doesnt mean they are going to win so keeping it low from the fans' expectation.

Anyway, we wont have anything on Dota until 5th of January for the CN region and the other regions will start on 9-10th January. So its about two weeks to go until we get proper betting on Dota scene back

For damn sure they still want to be in the prime spot for tournaments, just that they don't want people to really think that they're trying and to not get people think that this is what former TI champions are still capable. For sure Monaspa may have played well on that game, but you can see that Old G is not even trying with the draft, even though you have Ceb, MSS, and N0tail on board. If it was a serious matter you'll see some crazy picks, but meh, Topson Sniper mid? Feels like they're just trying to enjoy on a pub Cheesy
2956  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can CEX's prove their solvency? on: December 23, 2022, 10:40:30 PM
Not much we can do to check, but the auditors for these CEX's can probably help lend a hand. of course you'll pick auditors and accountants that are of good standing and are actually trustworthy, without being bias at all. One day these exchanges may turn rouge and do an FTX against users funds. I suggest that in order to not be a victim just don't leave anything on the exchange when not really trading. This only gives the exchange more money to use for whatever purpose they need (banks, lol).
2957  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this a good plan at all? on: December 23, 2022, 08:13:58 PM
Paid VPNs are almost always a good thing if you just want to hide your tracks from being snooped. Do note that VPNs are also prone to breaches and the likes so there's that to take note of. I think gambling platforms themselves have a way to know which real IP you're using, or if not they will at least know you're connecting to their site using a VPN. If you want to hide your browsing history or any other sensitive info from others, VPN is a good choice. Generally a good plan considering that a VPN not only covers your gambling activities but also any other browsing activities that you might do on the internet.
2958  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat and crypto and stock is bs, but property is real on: December 23, 2022, 07:12:56 PM
Not every property is worth it, I tell ya. I inherited a nice lot in the mountains near the national highway here in the Philippines, and guess what the value is? Shit. Nothing is close by, only some random houses and some isolated stores here and there. Investing in property isn't for everyone; if you don't have an eye for value then even if you invest in properties, lands, or any other "real" thing that you're mentioning you're still doomed to fail. Investing in crypto and fiat also needs you to be keen on finding value on which ones to pick - even in stocks! Each one has its own strengths and merits, and real estate/properties may seem like solid options (no pun intended), it also has its weakness especially depending on the economic conditions on where that property sits in.
2959  Other / Off-topic / Re: Has your budget for gambling been affected by the festive season? on: December 23, 2022, 05:38:44 PM
It's still the same $20/week, not affected by anything at all. It has never changed and always has been that for the last 2 or 3 years, though there instances wherein an esports/sports event is underway and I wanted to make a bet on some games but that doesn't happen that much. This festive season, I am trying to lay off the gambling platform and try to just go around town and discover some hidden spots that I can get some good food from. It's way cheaper and kind of relaxing, but gambling is just a lot entertaining and I really can't get off it that easily.

Perhaps I might do a one time, big time before the end of the year, and spend maybe a thousand dollars in one sitting. Hopefully I don't get dumb enough to actually do that and waste my money for nothing. Cheesy
2960  Economy / Economics / Re: Car repossessions are on the rise in warning sign for the economy on: December 23, 2022, 11:27:49 AM
Isn't the crisis of electronic chips and charging the main reason for the price hike during the past year? I remember that most of the agencies were unable to provide model year cars even with the high prices and advance payment, which caused them great embarrassment, including the increase in the prices of the rest of the models for the past years.
In general, in the local market here, and without lending prices, car prices suffered from sharp fluctuations, and the problem of loans has added additional challenges.

I believe that is also what one of the agents in the dealership I went with told me regarding the reason why they don't have the 2022 variant of the car that I'm eyeing on. He said there were shortage in electronic chips, but not in manpower nor any other parts that the car needs in order to function. The delay was something like 9 or so months if I can remember correctly, and the vehicles they have in the showroom can't be purchased by cash, only through financing and bank loans which is, in itself absurd because if you do that option, the car's value will go up 200% compared to when you buy it directly with cash.

They also have a used car section and those prices are also unjustifiable given the age and miles put on those cars. There is a 2004 Camry that is still worth an absurd $7,000 clocking 89,000 miles that is on display on that dealership. The agent said that it was in mint condition and was always on time for the car's inspection and maintenance. That Camry is nice and all, but I don't think it's worth $7,000 tbh. Vehicle prices has been surging recently, and repossessions of these vehicles coming to a higher level may mean that people just haven't got enough money to cover for their mortgage/rent, food, and their cars, and has to let go of the latter because they can get by with public transportation.
