Scotland deserve that place. Because it has tried well and performed really well. And I hope so the Scotland will get that position and we will see the Scotland team in the ODI Cricket World Cup.
And Srilanka has the Fix Spot in the ODI Cricket World Cup. Because it is on the top in its group and in the super six too with 8 points. And its run rate also good 1.817 in Super Six.

Sri Lanka has already qualified. They have won all of their matches so far, and the final one against West Indies is remaining. Irrespective of the outcome from the Scotland vs Netherlands match, they will proceed to the final. On 9th July, the final will be played between Sri Lanka and the second team that qualifies. And in case Sri Lanka wins that match, they will face Pakistan on 6th October. The second team that qualifies will play their first match against South Africa on 7th October. The ICC will be terribly disappointed. Despite trying their best to exclude associate nations from the main tournament, one of them have qualified somehow.

Yes indeed, after all Haaland is a great player which of course will make Haaland more closely guarded by opposing defenders. Therefore, it will make opposing defenders prioritize stopping Haaland's movements. So yes, from this style of play, then of course teamwork is very much needed and other Norwegian players cannot always depend solely on Haaland's skills and abilities. Also, with this result it seems that it will still be difficult for Norway to qualify, because so far Norway has only gotten four points from the four matches that have been played.

Being dependent on a single player doesn't always work well. And we have seen this in the case of teams like Portugal, Belgium and even for smaller teams like North Macedonia and Wales. But then, Norway is a very small country and the national league (Eliteserien) is not very popular. Recent downturn in their performance can be attributed to the overall decline due to smaller player pool. Norway is a country that is rapidly ageing, much like Danmark, Germany and Italy. And unlike France and England, they don't have a large migrant population who can inject fresh blood to the national team.

One thing which surprises me is that you can't take your wallet or car keys with you in the stadium. If so where do they place thier keys in case they come on car to watch the match  Huh

There are cloakrooms near the entrance where you need to deposit all the items that are not permitted inside (obviously the service is not free). My biggest issue is with the washrooms and toilets. Despite paying huge amounts for purchasing the ticket, even those who hold passes to the high-end areas of the stands have to deal with toilets that are not well maintained. And in case you are in for an ODI match, which lasts for 7-8 hours, it is impossible to not to use the toilet. I have heard many horror stories, and in the worst cases toilets were not fit for usage by humans.
2964  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: July 06, 2023, 03:16:51 AM
I can agree when you talk about it is possible a surprise to occur in this incoming election. Actually, Barack Obama was a surprise candidate who ended up winning and beating Hillary out her chances to become the first Woman in charge of the USA. Or I think it was another man... I dont recall.
If the health of Biden continues to deteriorate and Trump ends up in prison, then there will be more chances of a younger and less extreme person to take over the polls.

Though, Trump still could run from Prison, as far as I know.

Knowing how selfish Trump is, I don't think that he will allow anyone else to get nominated from the GOP for 2024 polls. Not even Ivanka. We saw that during the 2020 senate runoff for Georgia. Trump refused to campaign after he lost the POTUS elections and as a result GOP lost two senate seats that they would have won otherwise. If someone else becomes the GOP nominee, then Trump will simply refuse to support that candidate and his supporters will simply sit at home and don't vote in the elections. Democrats are more united, at least when compared to the GOP.
2965  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Discussion - Being an Active Poster in the Gambling Board on: July 06, 2023, 03:03:12 AM
Has being an active participant in the gambling section helped you develop more effective strategies for winning bets?

In my case, I mostly bet on sports events, especially cricket, football and boxing. Inputs that I received from this sub-forum has helped me in placing bets more efficiently and accurately. But when it comes to strategies, I am more skeptical.

Has it aided you in overcoming gambling addiction (if you were addicted) or developing healthier gambling habits?

I was never addicted to anything. And I need to add that multiple stories that I have read in Bitcointalk from people who suffered as a result of gambling addiction definitely helped me to understand the dangers of such addiction.

Have you noticed an overall improvement in your gambling experiences?

Gambling is just like any other domain. You improve your skills with each passing year, if you treat your mistakes as learning steps and learn new things. And what I have learnt from this sub-forum has definitely helped me to upgrade my skills.

^ The open south border brings the drug of choice of the poor guys which is fentanyl.  Looking back on history, the Chinese were once addicted to Opium which caused their fall. Now it's China that is buying American companies and giving loans.

It was the NATO that first used drugs as a weapon to wage proxy war against countries on the opposite side of the spectrum. After they took control of Afghanistan in 2001, NATO soldiers encouraged opium poppy production and even guarded the poppy farms. Heroin produced in Afghanistan was then sent to countries such as Russia and Iran, where millions of young people died as a result of drug overdose. Now China is giving the Americans a taste of their own medicine, by shipping fentanyl to the United States. The death toll is much lower though. As per latest reports, around 100,000 per year.

2967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: July 06, 2023, 02:43:04 AM
Roll Eyes To be honest, I can't understand where the sarcasm is, as Infantino already lobbies for a World Cup every two years. Of course, as you correctly noted, this will destroy all records, but I think everyone will understand the value of new records compared to those that were set in the old format.

Well.. what is wrong with having a world cup every two years? If leagues such as English Premier League, Ligue1 and Serie A can be conducted every year, spanning for 4-5 months, then what is wrong in having a FIFA tournament every 2 years which will get completed in around 1 month duration? IMO, clubs are having a disproportionate influence in global football and the importance of international competitions are going down. IMO, this is not a move in the right direction, because the clubs only care about money and not about the overall growth of the game.
2968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 06, 2023, 02:33:17 AM
Anyway, plenty of changes in England's squad for 3rd match. Moeen, Woakes and Wood are in, Anderson, Pope and Tongue are out.

Moeen didn't performed well in the first test, so I am not sure whether his inclusion is going to create any trouble for the Aussies. His recent form is not good, either with the bat or ball. I am surprised that Tongue was left out. He did a decent job, IMO. Anderson deserves to be kicked out. Not for his poor performance, but for the whining after the match about how unsupportive the pitch was. Wood's addition is what England needs. He is the fastest bowler in England right now and his inclusion to the squad should add some venom to their attack.

BTW, I heard from social media that England is interested in stealing Chris Sole from Scotland. He bowls at speeds of up to 94 mph, and has been exceptional so far in the CWC qualifiers. This will achieve two objectives for England - first they can strengthen their own bowling lineup, and secondly they can make sure that Scotland will remain in the fringes of world cricket. The same strategy was employed w.r.t. Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin a decade ago and they successfully managed to destroy the Irish team back then.
2969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Women's Cricket Prediction & Discussion - T20 & ODI on: July 06, 2023, 02:23:34 AM
There is a series ongoing between Irish women and West Indies women. Ireland lost the ODI series 0-2 (one match was washed out) and they lost the first T20I match as well. The T20I series consists of 3 matches and the remaining two matches will take place on 7th and 9th. BTW, there is another series between the Sri Lanka women and the New Zealand women, that will start on 8th July (ODI series is completed, and SL won 2-1). And finally Indian women are touring Bangladesh for a series of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The first match will be played on 9th July.
2970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: July 06, 2023, 02:12:11 AM
Offers from Saudi for European star players are always better than offers from European clubs. We have to look at not only salary they offer but remember in Europe, players will have to pay personal income tax which they will not be charged in Saudi Arabia.

This is a very important factor and a lot of people ignore it. Thank you so much for mentioning it. I remember the outcry from several players a few years ago, when the government of François Hollande imposed an income tax of 75% in France. A number of players threatened to move out of the country back then. Saudi Arabia doesn't have income tax for citizens, but non-Saudi resident individuals are taxed at a flat rate of 20% (please correct me in case I am wrong). But even if it is 20%, the rate is much lower than what they have in the European Union.

2971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 06, 2023, 02:01:51 AM
This season of TNPL have turned to be more popular with more star performers of IPL continuing the similar performance in TNPL. Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan playing for Lyca Kovai Kings, Varun Chakaravarthy plays for Dindugal Dragons. More players have been performing good in the tournament, for them this league serves as a stepping stone. Dindugal Dragons and Lyca Kovai Kings leads the table winning 6 matches out of the 7 matches played. However in very few matches we were able to see 200+ runs while the average score used to be around 160 runs, which is getting better with every season.

These leagues can act as feeders for the IPL franchises. If I am not wrong, players like Shahrukh Khan and Natarajan first rose to prominence due to their performance in the TNPL. However, a few things can be considered to make these league more exciting and popular. Leagues such as TNPL are owned by the state cricket associations (such as the TNCA). The ownership can be transferred to the IPL Franchise (Chennai Super Kings), which would eradicate concerns from the franchises that smaller leagues are eating in to their revenue. Also, currently players from other states and countries are not allowed. A limited number of such players can be allowed in each team, to make it more exciting.
2972  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: July 06, 2023, 01:51:08 AM
but if they are going to have weapon then maybe there will be a different result  Grin Elon Musk is actively engaging in fitness and action aswe can see in His built and indeed that no doubt he will win if the fight happens near time.
but if  this will be happening in the next 5-10 years? while Mark is now practicing boxing as internet says? maybe the result will go sideways.

Grin Good one! Next 5-10 years will be all different as Musk will grow old by 10 years and would be 61. Zukberg will be only 49 and he would still be fit at that time. Mark would become a pro in boxing by that time and who know he might learn some other martial art, it won't be easy for Musk to defend him and most probably he won't accept the fight. As the probability of Mark winning the bout will be high than Musk

Age is just a number. For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger is 75 years old. If there is a cage fight between him and someone like Logan Paul (28 years old), who do you think will be the winner? IMO, Musk looks much more athletic and healthy when compared to Zuckerberg. BTW, the real fight has already started, and it is between Twitter and Threads (Meta). Zuckerberg believes that support from left-wing loonies will help him to overtake Twitter in micro-blogging domain. I will be more skeptical. Replacing a well established platform such as Twitter will be extremely difficult.
2973  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 06, 2023, 01:41:36 AM
Today it is a do or die battle for the two teams - Scotland and Netherlands. If Scotland wins the match, they will gain a slot for the ODI World Cup (to be held in India later this year). If Netherlands win the match, it will come down to the run rate. Scotland can still qualify if they lose to Netherlands by less than 31 runs, or with less than 6 overs to spare. Personally I want Scotland to win, as they have been exceptional so far in this tournament. Players like Chris Sole and Michael Leask have performed well beyond expectations.
2974  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia and others, move to use Yuan instead of dollar. on: July 05, 2023, 07:43:23 AM
Sithara007 you are a smart man, it is pleasant to communicate with you! That's right - local currencies for international settlements turn out to be inconvenient and limited in application. And that is why the world uses the convenient U.S. DOLLAR. Not the rupee, not the yuan, but the DOLLAR ! Because it is the only currency with which it is EASY to buy everything the world economy produces. That's why trying to create the appearance of "dedolarization" is the way into this kind of inconvenience ! And you will soon realize that the yuanization of your "foolish" neighbors is not synonymous with dedolarization ! China is not abandoning the dollar, just like the terrorist country russia, they are critically dependent on international currency revenues, because they depend on the world market, not the other way around !

I don't think that the Russians are facing any issue in using Chinese Yuan, because CNY is easily convertible with other currencies and also China is the no.1 trade partner of Russia. And more importantly, unlike the case with Russia-India trade, the trade relation between Russia and China is more asymmetric with trade balance being almost equal. Russia imports a lot of stuff from China, including electronics, automobiles, textiles, medicines, chemicals, fruits and vegetables. And most of this trade has shifted to CNY.

^^ Such a shame, isn't it? The skill gap is still there but Associate nations keep demonstrating their willpower with an amazing performance.

Broadcasters will do that as they are in for profits but ICC? That's why these ICC guys don't deserve any respect and should be called out every time they give a virtue signal on spreading the game.

With 90% of the revenues coming from India, the TV rights holders are concerned that if by some chance India gets kicked out during group phase, then they will lose massive amounts of advertisement revenues. They are conveniently forgetting the fact that during the 2007 World Cup, it was Bangladesh which caused the exit of India (not one of the associates). Pakistan lost to Ireland and they exited as well. But then Ireland is also a test nation now. Also, rather than having 4 groups of 4 teams, they should have created 2 groups of 8 teams each.
2976  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: July 05, 2023, 06:18:17 AM
It's normal that many people take the fight between Elon and Mark seriously because they are popular billionaires and have such a large number of supporters that they want to see who is tougher. But in terms of age alone, it can be seen that Elon is too old to fight and even Elon will not be able to survive for the long term. And from that fight, usually young people will be able to survive but in terms of maturity, maybe Elon is still superior. But it's better if the fight is replaced with a fight in the field of technology so that it will be more interesting to follow.

I am not sure. For me, Elon looks a lot more healthier when compared to Mark Zuckerberg. Zucker maybe 13 years younger to Elon, but the latter is taller and bulkier. Jokes apart, the real battle is happening in the Apple's App Store. Zucker wants to destroy Twitter, because Elon wouldn't restore censorship. It is essentially a battle between the far-left and center-right for control of the micro-blogging domain. BTW, Jack Dorsey is also making a lot of noise and in the past few days he has also made several comments against Threads.

Has anyone heard about the offer being made to Gianluigi Buffon? He is 45-year old and currently represents one Serie B club in Italy. The offer from Saudi Professional League is reportedly worth £25 million. Buffon is currently playing his 28th season in senior club football. There is no conformation from the player, and he is reportedly analyzing his options. However, I believe that this is as good as it gets for someone like Buffon. Saudis are offering a good opportunity for him to secure his retirement package.

Did anyone notice, In this Spirit of the game controversy no one from England's side talking about lagging 0-2 in the Ashes?

Be it Media, Pundits or Fans, literally no discussion on how Bazball rolled over and lost the plot in the first 2 matches and too at home. In contrast, I remember how brutally Aussie media reacted when they lost 2 consecutive home series against India and I can imagine what would happen if India manage to lose 2 back to back matches on their home turf.

Having said that i'd still like to see them doubling down on an aggressive approach and in this process i am okay with both results be it 0-5 for Aussie or 3-2 for England.

England deserves whatever shit they get. Playing with home advantage and still unable to win in the first two matches. James Anderson was complaining about the pitch rather than focusing on his own bowling. And then talking about the spirit of cricket, England should be the last ones to complain about it. We all saw what Ben Stokes did in 2019, during the final of the ODI World Cup. Kane Williamson behaved like a gentleman and accepted the result. If the roles were reversed, then I am sure that Ben Stokes and his gang of clowns would have gone ballistic.

2979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 05, 2023, 04:56:04 AM
If the world cup was a 14-team event, similar to the one we had in 2015, then all the teams in Super-6 would have qualified for the main tournament (including West Indies). The reduction from 14 to 10 was done based on the demands from Disney-Star, the TV rights holder. They wanted to guarantee 9 matches for India, and were afraid that teams like Scotland and Netherlands would defeat the Indian team and their revenues will get impacted. And after watching the performance of both Scotland and Netherlands in this tournament, I can't really blame the TV broadcasters. There is a good chance that they may defeat teams like India.
I am curious about where you got this news. I never heard something like this. I don't think ICC can be influenced by broadcasters. I understand that India is the host team in this world cup. But that does not mean they can do whatever they want. There are other countries who also members of the ICC. India alone cannot make any decision and ICC won't approve any decision that is made by BCCI solely.  I am interested to know more about this. Do you have any evidence of what you just wrote? Or is this based on your opinion only? If this is just your opinion, then I would say I don't think you are right.

Here:

https://www.livemint.com/Sundayapp/jdpNmOJZ5GqIE8KJlqtFKP/At-the-Cricket-World-Cup-no-place-for-small-teams-with-big.html

Quote
In March 2015, during the World Cup in Australia, Dave Richardson told the media that the agreement with the broadcasters was for a 10-team World Cup in 2019. At the time, he had said that the “debate will still be had as to have 10 teams or increase it". A couple of months later, in June 2015, it became clear that it will remain a 10-team tournament when the format was not discussed at the ICC Annual Conference in Barbados.

Quote
In the hectic negotiations with the ICC in the first half of 2017, BCCI would have deployed a number of arguments to justify its demand. It would not be unreasonable to assume that the India-specific broadcasting gains to be made during the 2019 World Cup would have featured prominently among them.

The broadcasters wanted a 10-team tournament and the ICC happily agreed to their demands. The decision was made during 2014/15, when Srinivasan along with Pawar was controlling the ICC/BCCI and wanted the smaller teams out of cricket. Back then the ECB and CA were solidly behind the BCCI. Every other sport has expanded the number of participants. FIFA World Cup has grown from 24 teams to 32, and then again to 48. Even the Kabaddi World Cup now features 12 teams (2 more than the cricket world cup).
2980  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia and others, move to use Yuan instead of dollar. on: July 05, 2023, 04:35:31 AM
Oh dear Sithara007 , what went wrong?! Smiley))
After all, everything was so good, without the dollar, very profitable, in "strong and secure rubles, yuan and rupees" ! What "broke"?
And as always, why are you silent about the real picture ? About the blocking of Russian funds by India, about the ban on the exchange of rupees for dollars, which Russia was asking for so much!  About the restrictive measures to sell many groups of goods for rupees in russia ? Why are you silent about these "little nuances"? The fact that India bought oil from russia for yuan speaks of many negative factors for both India and russia ! By the way - can you tell me what for yuan russia can buy in china ? Smiley Maybe servers ? Or equipment for 5G networks , or maybe industrial equipment ? Most likely... nails and cheap cell phones Smiley Because for the rest China demands... DOLLARS ! Surprising, right ?! Smiley

Well.. it is unfortunate that the Indian government hasn't made the INR fully convertible. As a result, the Russians don't want to trade using this currency. It benefits no one, as the traders are being forced to use currencies such as Chinese Yuan, United Arab Emirates Dirham and Swiss Franc along with the US Dollar. The fact that the Russian traders prefer CNY (despite strong resistance by Indians) prove that they don't have any issues in accepting this currency. And from what I have heard, they are preferring CNY instead of US Dollar.
