Payoff on this card is around 178 days -- expect to earn around $3/day.

Let's all hope Bitcoin is around and profitable for 6 more months...

Thanks for calculating that for me.

2983  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~500 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: August 25, 2011, 10:15:49 AM
Here is an update on the PPLNS situation since I got some requests for an update on IRC, and people have been posting their opinions here.

A lot of people obviously like our current SMPPS system, and it hasn't caused anyone to leave even though we haven't been able to provide 100% payouts as fast as we used to.  However, I still want to consider PPLNS as I think it has some advantages over our current system.  This means I still want to finish implementing it and provide "simulated" PPLNS data even as we continue with SMPPS.  If people were wondering, the current plan would be to use N = difficulty * 2.

After we get a chance to see how it would work out, I can make a decision on whether or not to switch.

I currently don't have a good time estimate on all of this, as I have had work and some family events to keep me busy.

On a different note, we hit an all time hashrate high of 580 GH/s recently, and a 3 hour average high of 540 GH/s  Grin

Hooray!

A more important thing you could work on is the rate of stales.  I get way more stales in your pool than I do in others, and I don't know why, since I use the same mining software setup for all the pools I use.  Here's some stats all from August:

ars:
Lifetime Shares: 1158421
Lifetime Stale: 18984 (1.6124%)

ozcoin:
Lifetime Shares   179,035
Lifetime Stales   78
Total Stale Rate   0.044%

bitclockers:
Your Shares This Round: 20935 (Rejected: 38) = 0.1812%

For some reason I am getting 1.4% stales over and above what these other pools of similar size give me.  I don't claim to know why some pools would have higher stales than others, just pointing it out.  I use Phoenix and CGMiner, split between the two clients about half and half depending on which cards in the rig.

What mining software are you using? I was using Phoenix 1.5 on windows and it seems to drop the long polling after a while and that is was caused the higher stale rates. I then switch to cgminer 1.5.1 on windows and my stale rate is around 0.3%. I also am using BAMT with the latest phoenix 1.6.1 and stales are also very low on ars.
2984  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many kWh are you using a month? on: August 24, 2011, 04:28:30 AM
They want me to call the business solutions dept.  problem is the "small general" service is not to exceed 10 kw of demand, which I do exceed.  "primary general" requires a 12.5 kV or higher supply.  Mine is 240 V = .24 kV at 200 amps, so that is way out of my league.  I think I fit into the Large Municipal and School Service, but I'm just going to have to check with the power company...

Is anyone getting MORE than 240 V x 200 AMP to a single residential meter?

I receive commercial power at a rented warehouse with three phase 200 amp service. Not sure about getting it out to your house though.
2985  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many kWh are you using a month? on: August 24, 2011, 04:06:42 AM
I called my power company today after reading this thread and reading their published tariffs and rates (long document).  I will probably save money this way by switching from residential to commercial service.  I'm concerned about being in a residential area and asking for commercial service, but now awaiting a call from higher-up the customer service ladder about all my special power needs.

My power bill will be about $900 (includes non-mining home electricity use) at my current rate and usage.  Getting about 12 Gh out of that.  So it looks like electricity eats about half my profit in mining even at $11 per coin  Embarrassed

Commercial is definitely the way to go. I am saving upwards of 30% on the power bill now from residential and small business rates.

I would highly recommend the asrock board linked below. It's been rock solid (no pun indented).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157262

Thank you for the suggestion.  Are you using yours with 4 or 5 GPUs?  What extender cables are you using (1x/16x, with/without molex power, etc.)?

5 5830s with 3 16x and 2 1-16x extenders without molex. I now have 5 boxes running this configuration and everything is working out great.
2987  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Stable motherboard for 4 GPUs? on: August 23, 2011, 12:59:06 AM
I have a Biostar A870 that is rock solid with 2 GPUs, but flaky with 3, and with 4 is very unstable.  There is plenty of PSU power (1000W with max power draw at socket <800W with 4 GPU on full load).

Is there a board that is working well for others with 4 GPUs without the need for the extender with the molex connector (way too expensive)?

Thanks

Would you guys be willing to show the buffer amount you have for the pool within your stats page? Is there a reason for not having this transparency?

Also, I don't see a found blocks page. Do you not show when you find blocks?

I guess these things are not absolutely necessary to run a pps pool... but the more transparency the better.

Okay so I had some generous people offer me BTC online to get the windows binary version working, and I DID see someone offer a BTC bounty to get the windows binary working, so I've fluffed around for the last 2 days on a windows virtual machine to build some win32 binaries.

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/cgminer-1.5.4-win32.zip

Hopefully people appreciate the effort.

I will send the 1 BTC bounty promised after I test the binary. Thanks for taking care of this!

Awesome BT. Great job on building a fantastic pool!
2992  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many kWh are you using a month? on: August 12, 2011, 10:59:04 AM
Very nice.  $0.07585/Kw is very cheap.  I can't wait for winter rates.  I'll be at $0.104377/Kw during peak hours, but only $0.038162/Kw during off-peak.
wtf that's it? where do you live for these dirt cheap electricity rates?? i have to freakin pay $0.165/kwh  Angry

I am using commercial "on demand" power which is meant for high Kw usage businesses. There are three charges:

Customer charge: $30
On Demand Charge: (highest Kw used in a 15 minute window within the month) x $8
Price per Kw: $0.07585

Since I won't have big spikes in usage, the demand charge is nominal. Also with this plan, the more power I use, the more I save.

My residential power is $0.11 for the first 1000Kw and $0.13 for every kilowatt after that.

I can also choose to go on the on peak, should and off peak rates which can vary from $0.03 to $0.11 but after looking at the numbers, there would not be significant savings unless i shut everything down during peak hours or setup some kind of backup system to run during those hours.

Btw, i'm in FL.

Had 5Gh at the house running for a month and used 5998 kwh with the ac running 24/7. That bill was $600.

Recently moved everything for expansion and plan on using 17.75 kw per hour, 15,500 hwh / month not including ac. Just finished having 208v wired up. Looks like i'll be able to do upwards of 50 kw per hour soon at $0.07585 kw.     Shocked
2995  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Efficiency... PS 240v 120 v.... on: August 11, 2011, 10:08:12 AM
This is why my rack of rigs runs 240v. Dual 30amp 240v L6-30p Smiley

Same here. The electrical will be done tomorrow for my 208v setup on three phase commercial power. Three phase also has the added benefit of spreading the load over three power wires and as more load is added, the net effect is a decrease in amperage of 1.73 at the main fuses. This effectively means that a three phase 200 amp service can run close to 57kw per hour at 80% capacity (57000w / 208 / 1.73 = 158.4 amps).
2996  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Efficiency... PS 240v 120 v.... on: August 06, 2011, 02:13:28 AM
amperage * voltage = wattage

Or put another way

wattage / voltage = amperage

The main point to take away from this is that the higher the voltage, the lower the amperage.

Example: You have a rig pulling 1200 watts. At 120 volts this rig would be pulling 10 amps (1200/120=10). If you put the rig on 240 volts your amperage requirement is cut in half (1200/240=5). So if you have a 40 amp breaker on 240v, it is the equivalent to having 80 amp breaker on 120v.

Most PSUs can run on any voltage from 115 to 240 volts as they are designed to run on just about any electrical system in the world. Also, PSUs generally run a bit more efficient at higher voltages, generally 3%.

I too would like to see the latest version of cgminer for windows. I will offer up a 1 BTC bounty for the build.
2998  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I'm torn between Solo mining and Pool Mining on: August 04, 2011, 04:52:36 PM
You are in a lucky streak at the moment but luck is a fickle lady. Also, you past performance has no bearing on your future performance.

You will definitely wish you were mining on a pool after a 2 month dry spell of solo mining as you will be running at a net loss for those two months.

Ultimately, it is up to your tolerance of risk.
2999  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Official CGMINER thread - CPU/GPU miner in C for linux/windows/osx on: August 01, 2011, 01:26:23 AM
WOW!!!!

I moved from guiminer with phoenix to cgminer and can't believe my eyes! My stales rates have dropped from 1.3% to next to nothing and my Mh's increased 2-5Mh's per card. Thanks for the awesome miner.

Just a 1% savings in stales over time is going to make some pretty good $$$. Thanks for all of the hard work.

BTC to follow.
3000  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Your electricity costs? on: July 30, 2011, 01:13:53 AM
7.585 cents per kwh in FL. I'm on commercial power so I have a larger customer charge ($30 instead of $10) and I pay a demand charge. The demand change is based off of my highest usage in a 15 minute window. Residential and Small Business pay 11 cents a kwh for the first 1000 and then 13 cents for everything over.
