Was waiting for phill to fire up the 2021 topic since this has always been his idea, anyway if he is fine with you doing it, I hope he closes the other 2020 topic so we can shift the discussion here.

Would be good if you add in some local rules, no trolling, no cloud mining ads, no unicorn 500TH mining gears buy links, and all of the stuff that most of us wouldn't want to see in this thread.

with that being said, let me the first to post the current difficulty status

Code:

Code:
111a17def8ada63752f76cfde716cdc1bdef0e4166500e80c237fece14b138f8

Shocked

2983  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: January 05, 2021, 05:45:48 PM
That is a good point phill, at these prices I am sure many are doing the same as you are, going full blast with their mining gears without thinking of the power bill since the price is just way too high.

There is also another point I would like you to know about, the majority of used miners in China are sold out, my supplier said at this point he can't find 1000 S9, I contacted another supplier and she told me the price for S9 is $150 and of course, isn't easy to get.

a couple of months ago it was 30% the price now, so it looks like all those old gears are now back online, honestly, I didn't expect that they would make up this much of hash rate but well, could be in addition to some of the new gears and overclocking previous-generation gear, but overall it's safe to assume that the majority of old gears are back online.

So, long-term, are we going to do 2x as far as hashrate is concerned? I am almost confident that this won't and can't happen in 2021, so it's most likely going to be a good year for miners..let's watch this closely.
2984  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 low hash - What could be the problem? on: January 05, 2021, 02:34:13 PM
Here is the answer

Code:
driver-btm-c5.c:13421:bitmain_c5_init: Chain[J6] has 63 asic
driver-btm-c5.c:13449:bitmain_c5_init: retry Chain[J7] has 0 asic
driver-btm-c5.c:13449:bitmain_c5_init: retry Chain[J8] has 0 asic

each "J" here represents a hash board which the control expects to find, your miner has 3 hash boards and so it expects to see J6,J7, and J8, but it can only see J6, in other words the other two chains/hash boards are bad/don't work.

it's also the reason why in this image which you posted

only 1 hash board has a LED on.

so first thing first, it's safe to assume that chances are, the seller just gave you a gear that hashes at 1/3 of it's hashrate and you have to live with it or return it if possible, however, the cause of this could be something else which you can fix,  so you need to do a bit of troubleshooting, start with swapping the wires between J6 ot J7 and this includes all 3 PSU cables and the thin ribbon cable, do this, power the miner on and post the kernel log again.

Considering that you are using your own bot, it is pretty impressive. If you ever plan to release that bot, make an announcement.

I doubt that I will be releasing it since I don't want to be responsible for anybody's loss, keep in mind that non of these trades is closed yet, while the majority of them won't be losing (given the strategy that I use), there is still no guartnee that they will make even half the profit you see in the picture, so I woudn't say it's impressive yet, I will keep this topic updated for further disccsuion.

Atleast 5.
But 10 would be much better.

I think you should just go for it with whatever number you have now, the difficulty is going to adjust at which seems to be more than 10% in 4 days, a bitcoin block is well over 200k at current prices, I wish you guys all the best.lko
2988  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Ebit Ebang E12 hash board on: January 05, 2021, 12:53:21 AM
There is little to no chance of finding those hash boards, those gears are rare and most people would be looking to buy hash boards instead of other components, 9 out of 10 times the hash board will die while the PSU and control board are still good, it's hard enough to find S9 hash board despite the fact that it's the most widely owned mining gear of all time, and if you managed to find them the cost will always be at about 30% of the miner itself (assuming the miner has 3 hash boards),that's because the miner's value mostly lies in those hashboard, and only about 10% or 15% at most goes for the PSU and the control board.

Long story short: Don't waste your time.

doesnt someone has a chinese friend who can do a manuall translation? prefered with technical backgrund...i could imagine translators make some serious errors here (context)

That isn't the kind of a favour you want from a friend (assuming you still want to be friends) it is a lot of work that shouldn't be done for free, if someone really needs this in English they should hire a professional to translate it, or ask Zeusbtc if they could translate it at a decent cost.

With that being said I think someone with enough electronic background can use auto-translation and still manage to understand all that he needs from this document even with some potential translation errors.

2992  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The viability of Trading Bots. on: January 04, 2021, 03:05:34 AM
Maybe you should think about going something like - 1 month manual and automatic trading comparison.

You make sense, but even doing the 1-month switch won't really prove anything, with manual trading there will be days when I don't trade or signals that I don't catch, so eventually I will miss many trades, and so if those were supposed to be winning trades then my manual results will be bad, if they were more of losing trades then my manual trading results would be better because a losing trade missed is a winning one.

Here are the current positions opened by the bot

I missed 7 out of 9 in my manual trading and there was a glitch with a BTC/USDT order which should have been activated at 18.3k level

I took that trade manually but the bot failed to take it, which will also affect the result unless I modify the bot's numbers, so I guess there is just no perfect way of doing this, but I will continue to update the thread either way.

Can I buy robots from you?

Please read the OP, I don't have any bots for sale, most trading bots online are fake, if you have a trading strategy that works, hire someone to code the bot/script for you, shouldn't cost you above $100-200, and if you don't have a trading strategy you should learn TA and come up with one.
2993  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17 pro weird temperature differences between chips and pcbs on: January 04, 2021, 02:48:11 AM
Yes i have temperatures just above 0.

just above 0c and some chips are at 80c with almost 50% fan speed isn't all good, you either are not moving enough air out of the room so miners are sucking hot air back, or the miner is full of dust and needs cleaning, I think if everything is fine you shouldn't see anything above 70c.
2994  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: January 04, 2021, 02:11:01 AM
My thoughts exactly, this is why we should always prepare for all scenarios, I personally over-plan for the bear markets more than I do with the bull market, which is a mistake on my behalf that I don't seem to get rid of, so it creates "issues", but these are the kind of issues I love to face. Grin

Next angle I can triple my mine size watts from 170 to 500 kwatts of power. Hard to get thr gear.
Next angle Selling old gear. Easy at the moment .
Next angle I can sell my mined alt coins HOLD the btc.

I have not been in this good of a spot ever. A lot of decisions to make.

My plan is not to add in any more gears because of the current prices, I made a good/lucky move a few months ago and got my hands on cheap gears before this rally started, I did hit ROI on ALL of them, excluding those junky 17 series gears which many of them died in a very short period of time.

So the next step with be to mine and accumulate, and of course, sell a bit with every 3-5k up, so 34k, 37k, 42k, 55k and etc are all sell-targets all the way to infinity  Cheesy, my logic behind this is that I want to be ready for the bear market, after being in this field for so long, I became so FOMO-resistant, it doesn't bother me if I sell and the price goes up, because I know that when it dips, I will be smiling big time.

So with enough cash collected from now until this bull cycle ends, I would sit back and relax and wait for the weak miners to sell their mining gears for dirt cheap, I did the same in 2018 (wrote a topic about it), I got me some mining gears at the bottom of the bear market, they were so cheap then, was probably my best move as far as mining is concerned, so ya, I plan to do the same thing again, not going to pay these high prices for mining gears while the average Joe is doing that, when I see people on mining groups on FB/telegram dying to get their hands on mining gears I know it's a bad time to be buying them, you don't buy mining gears right before difficulty spikes, it never works.

2996  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: January 03, 2021, 09:11:52 PM
I am a believer in bitcoin, I have always been, but I never stopped selling a good % of my mining earnings, you see the problem with mining is that it's very short-lived, it's not a long term business like most other businesses, mining gears either die or become obsolete in a couple of years at most, so every 1-3 years you need to "throw away" a ton of old gears and buy a new set of gears - this is not much different from starting a brand new business.

The above puts pressure on miners since every mining gear is a new short-term investment, miners rush to ROI the USD investment they put into it, and then you have another issue which is the "brutal bear", miners must always have a good amount of cash in order to be able to re-position themselves so that their mining operations don't come to a sudden end.

Every time the difficulty spikes or price drops, you have to act, you need to either buy more efficient gears to stay profitable or buy more of the same gears to justify the total operation cost, at one point you could have a huge farm that you spend $50 on gas to visit which only generates $100, it happens a lot and thus we try to stay liquid to act accordingly.

Some people might think that keeping BTC is as good as keeping cash as far as re-buying mining gear in a bear market is concerned, but this isn't true, mining gear pricing doesn't work this way.

The good thing is that miners are a small fish in a huge ocean as far as the market goes, the daily trading volume on a mediocre exchange is a couple of times higher than all of us miners can make.

It really shows all about the psu thoroughly at the component level.

That's good news, I am glad to hear that it was helpful, I knew it would be, just wasn't sure how detailed it is, but since I don't know much about electronics I had to hear it from someone who does.

I tried to copy-paste the text in Chinese to translate it but couldn't do that, can somebody with acrobat pro try it? would love to get the whole file translated to English.

I believe the S9 has a single PCB temp sensor which is TMP451, it seems like it's slightly hidden under the heatsinks, you could probably still see it without taking the heatsink off, according to a post in one of the Russian mining forums, pezhvak identified the temp sensor location in this post.

If the information provided in the post isn't accurate, please let me know, I can ask someone who probably knows.

I am 99% positive that it is a hardware issue, however, i would still test the miner with custom firmware since sometimes it could fix the issue, try vnish (asic.to or awesomeminer), chances are low but you have nothing to lose.
