2982  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The viability of Trading Bots. on: January 07, 2021, 01:24:36 AM
Dont forget to consider that we had unusual hike in all the crypto currencies this year due to outburst of bitcoin's market cap. I think it's very obvious that bitcoin will be affecting your rest of the portfolio in very unique way.

Of course, my strategy barely makes a profit in a bear market since it doesn't short, so it needs a bull market or a coin that has some positive news whereby the coin goes up regardless of the market condition,so if your strategy doesn't lose you money during a bear market then it's good enough IMO.

With that being said, the bot has been online since Aug which the majority of it is bull, if you randomly invested in 10 coins you would be in good profit by now, so it really doesn't indicate anything yet, it needs to run for at least a whole cycle where we see a new ATH followed by a new local bottom, this means 1-2 years at least.

Quote
Also, does it mean that bots are not working up that perfectly as compared to manual trading?

It doesn't mean anything yet, I don't have a perfect sample to compare it against, I just laid out that the pros of using a bot are that you don't miss any trade and you stick to your strategy 100%, which I do fail to comply with, for an example, the current ADA position profit is 129.37%, if I was manually trading it, I would close it right now, but the bot is following the code which says don't close it yet, so this 129.37% could end up being 150% or 50% only, whereby in manual trading I would have probably closed it long before, despite that fact that I am not too prone to emotions, I don't think I can go to bed without closing a 129% profit position. Cheesy

Anyway, when a year has passed and I have long term results from both my manual trading and the bot, I should be able to complete this study, for now, let's just watch the bot do its thing.

BTW, the bot lost a few trades earlier own prior to opening all of these positions, and then I had to reset my orders, ended up at about 500$ back from the 579.11$, so I call that breakeven and I loaded another $500 so the initial cost now is considered $1000.

Current balance including Unrealized PNL = $1,357.0454

2983  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: January 06, 2021, 10:54:43 PM
Always wondered, how much would that 1 million mean in terms of days at TMSC full capacity?  No idea how to approximate it.

I am not electronic savvy but I can tell you that 1M gears are way beyond BM capacity, even if they weren't limited by semiconductor shortage, they are out of stock till August and they don't even have half a million gear in order if you combine all the large orders since most of them are public and multiply that by 2 you will still be below the 200k miners if they were remotely close to making that much in a year or two then things would have been different.

so anyone have the dimensions of a S17 chip? Odds are the s19's will be same physical chip size.

I have seen and held S17 chip in my hand, I have a few of them lying around at the farm which I can't access now, they are slightly bigger than the S9 chips of which I happen to know their exact size which is 8mm*8mm, I measured that with a regular ruler so expect 1-5% variance ( my eyes are bad), the S19 chips might be 10mm or 12mm, I think you can safely do the math with these numbers and in the coming days, I'll get you the exact dimension.
2984  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 low hash - What could be the problem? on: January 06, 2021, 08:23:37 PM
By the way, does anyone know the name of the S9's heatsinks? I may need to buy a few to replace here.

There is no name whatsoever, those heatsinks aren't specific for antminer S9, just buy any heatsink of the same size, you can find them for cheap on Amazon and eBay.
2985  Other / Meta / Re: Strange looking post history. on: January 06, 2021, 07:19:53 AM
Then that should be easy to fix @theymos, no?

Anyway, since this is a known issue, I am sure theymos knows about it and there is no need to keep this topic going, I will lock it.

Thanks, everyone.
2986  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general speculation thread... on: January 06, 2021, 06:52:08 AM
Smaller jumps would mean mikeywith will be correct.  and we just won't get the big diff runup.

As for price.  every day over 30k is good and last I looked we are over 34 k.

This time I am almost certain phill,  Grin. You see,  I wouldn't make price predictions because that requires a crystal ball for me to be pretty sure, but as far as the difficulty goes, it needs magic to do 3x or 4x or even 2x.

I can't stress this enough but the world is facing a semiconductors shortage, TSMC dropped its discount policy, some chips have gone 30% in price this month, to see huge spikes in difficulty Bitmain needs to make over a million S19, oh well good luck with that.

It really doesn't matter if we see a 10-15% spike for this epoch or even the next one, we will eventually slow down and start going up with small spikes, I am more worried about old and current gears being overclocked due to the overwhelming profit rather than new gears coming in, but say we get a 30% icnrease from everyone's gears going on full blast, that will be about 40EH, new gears will hardly go to 60-70E? that's not even 100% of the current hashrate.

I might be very optimistic as far as difficulty goes, but for everybody's sake, let's hope that we will look back to this topic 10 months later, and say well -- Mikey was right. Grin
2987  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: مسابقة Chipmixer 7 on: January 06, 2021, 06:08:55 AM

2988  Other / Meta / Strange looking post history. on: January 06, 2021, 03:34:07 AM

Not sure if this is a known issue, I searched a few keywords and I couldn't find any.

After posting a relatively long "code" my post history aka "Show the last posts of this person" looks very weird, the text alignment is messy and annoying. Cheesy

I discovered this when I looked into Ulven's profile, but I thought it had to be a glitch in the RTL alignment of the Arabic board, I posted the same code in Archival and now my last posts page looks the same, does anyone know what causes this and how to avoid it?
2989  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: مسابقة Chipmixer 7 on: January 06, 2021, 03:06:22 AM

Code:
1111474eaa95da419236268b4ca45228bbe50f2d5aee662131ea8cdb256c0c64

Khalid = 1+1+1
1+icy3 = 1

Done.
2991  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 low hash - What could be the problem? on: January 06, 2021, 02:07:18 AM
Yes due to overheating.

I don't think this is correct, this isn't why hash boards with no heatsink don't work.

But my question is: if a heatsink falls off, is it normal for the hashboard to stop working?

yes, once you fix those heatsinks, assuming all the 63 chips are fine then the miner will work just fine, there are many videos on youtube that show you how to glue a heatsink on those chips, it isn't easy, but if you have done something similar before - it shouldn't be difficult.

Was waiting for phill to fire up the 2021 topic since this has always been his idea, anyway if he is fine with you doing it, I hope he closes the other 2020 topic so we can shift the discussion here.

Would be good if you add in some local rules, no trolling, no cloud mining ads, no unicorn 500TH mining gears buy links, and all of the stuff that most of us wouldn't want to see in this thread.

with that being said, let me the first to post the current difficulty status

Code:

Code:
111a17def8ada63752f76cfde716cdc1bdef0e4166500e80c237fece14b138f8

Khalid = 1+1+1

2994  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: January 05, 2021, 05:45:48 PM
That is a good point phill, at these prices I am sure many are doing the same as you are, going full blast with their mining gears without thinking of the power bill since the price is just way too high.

There is also another point I would like you to know about, the majority of used miners in China are sold out, my supplier said at this point he can't find 1000 S9, I contacted another supplier and she told me the price for S9 is $150 and of course, isn't easy to get.

a couple of months ago it was 30% the price now, so it looks like all those old gears are now back online, honestly, I didn't expect that they would make up this much of hash rate but well, could be in addition to some of the new gears and overclocking previous-generation gear, but overall it's safe to assume that the majority of old gears are back online.

So, long-term, are we going to do 2x as far as hashrate is concerned? I am almost confident that this won't and can't happen in 2021, so it's most likely going to be a good year for miners..let's watch this closely.
2995  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 low hash - What could be the problem? on: January 05, 2021, 02:34:13 PM
Here is the answer

Code:
driver-btm-c5.c:13421:bitmain_c5_init: Chain[J6] has 63 asic
driver-btm-c5.c:13449:bitmain_c5_init: retry Chain[J7] has 0 asic
driver-btm-c5.c:13449:bitmain_c5_init: retry Chain[J8] has 0 asic

each "J" here represents a hash board which the control expects to find, your miner has 3 hash boards and so it expects to see J6,J7, and J8, but it can only see J6, in other words the other two chains/hash boards are bad/don't work.

it's also the reason why in this image which you posted

only 1 hash board has a LED on.

so first thing first, it's safe to assume that chances are, the seller just gave you a gear that hashes at 1/3 of it's hashrate and you have to live with it or return it if possible, however, the cause of this could be something else which you can fix,  so you need to do a bit of troubleshooting, start with swapping the wires between J6 ot J7 and this includes all 3 PSU cables and the thin ribbon cable, do this, power the miner on and post the kernel log again.

2997  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The viability of Trading Bots. on: January 05, 2021, 03:10:20 AM
Considering that you are using your own bot, it is pretty impressive. If you ever plan to release that bot, make an announcement.

I doubt that I will be releasing it since I don't want to be responsible for anybody's loss, keep in mind that non of these trades is closed yet, while the majority of them won't be losing (given the strategy that I use), there is still no guartnee that they will make even half the profit you see in the picture, so I woudn't say it's impressive yet, I will keep this topic updated for further disccsuion.
2998  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 257 blocks solved! on: January 05, 2021, 02:23:33 AM
Well, if we get enough people to join, then yeah.
Atleast 5.
But 10 would be much better.

I think you should just go for it with whatever number you have now, the difficulty is going to adjust at which seems to be more than 10% in 4 days, a bitcoin block is well over 200k at current prices, I wish you guys all the best.lko
2999  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Ebit Ebang E12 hash board on: January 05, 2021, 12:53:21 AM
There is little to no chance of finding those hash boards, those gears are rare and most people would be looking to buy hash boards instead of other components, 9 out of 10 times the hash board will die while the PSU and control board are still good, it's hard enough to find S9 hash board despite the fact that it's the most widely owned mining gear of all time, and if you managed to find them the cost will always be at about 30% of the miner itself (assuming the miner has 3 hash boards),that's because the miner's value mostly lies in those hashboard, and only about 10% or 15% at most goes for the PSU and the control board.

Long story short: Don't waste your time.
