2981  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinBase - Not licensed on: January 29, 2015, 02:51:17 PM
Coinbase isn't licensed, correct, because they're still awaiting regulators to iron out the wrinkles of the Bit-License.  They launched ahead of regulators, because that's what most tech startups do.  It's nothing new.  Run the business, add license and approvals later.

That said, they are fully licensed as a money tranmitter in the following states:

https://www.coinbase.com/legal/licenses

It's just a matter of time before New York and California pass their licensing requirements.
2982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dude forces his roomate at gunpoint to sell bitcoins! on: January 29, 2015, 02:39:16 PM
That is the craziest Bitcoin related murder I've heard thus far in it's short history.

Why's a 18 year old kid and 29 year old lawyer business partners to begin with anyways?

I'm guessing the tanking price made the lawyer loco, tied up the young'n and tried to force him to eat the loss and sell.

The young'n wanted to keep HODLING I guess, so that's it pretty much it in a nutshell.

Once he broke out of his ties, he literally brought down the hammer on the lawyer.

Sad, bizarre, fucked up news all in one.
2983  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Did you get ROI for your mining equipment? on: January 29, 2015, 02:29:15 PM
Here's a good site to guesstimate(excluding electrical costs) what you put in, and what you mined back:

http://retrocalc.net/

I bombed with my first miner, the Asicminer BlockErupter Blades, back in November/December of 2013.  Sold it on eBay to minimize the loss.

The only ROI I've ever received with miners was the Antminer S1s and first Dragon 1TH/s miners back in early 2014.  Mined to about even, from February to mid summer 2014, then sold off the farm for profit.

That's about the only real way to be on the plus end, the resale of equipment.
2984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Actual Bitcoin 2.0 - Would You Buy It? on: January 29, 2015, 02:16:13 PM
To the OP, the Bitcoin Foundation has nothing to do with actual iterations of Bitcoin 1.0, or 2.0, or any version changes.

If the miners and consensus don't agree with any new forked chain, then we'll remain on the original blockchain.

Yes, the Bitcoin Foundation has Gavin and pays for development on Bitcoin Core.

That said, the Bitcoin Foundation is nothing more then a glorified fan club, that has a few influential players.

Why do you think Andreas Antonopolous left that scummy foundation?
2985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Not another is Bitcoin dead question?? BUT... on: January 29, 2015, 02:09:27 PM
If you think Bitcoin as an investment vehicle for day trading, then you truly don't know what Bitcoin is.

If you compare Bitcoin to those Alt-coins that our merely speculative pump and dump scams, then you need to read up more on the underlying technology.

Do more research on what Bitcoin really is.  It's a cryptocurrency yes, but more so it's a way to transmit payment across global borders quickly with minimal fees.  It's a way to pay anonymously, to acquire and store wealth without the aid of central banks, to act as a voting system, to remit money to loved ones without western union.  It's best investion and function is the blockchain, which already has both developers and investors drooling over the possiblities that you can build and implement applications on top of this.

Once you know what Bitcoin is, you won't care about those other scamcoins, about it's volatile price, and whether it's "dead" every other day.
2986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Killer App on: January 29, 2015, 01:33:35 PM
There is no killer app for Bitcoin at the moment, we'd all be millionaires by now.   Cry

That said, there's no shortage of development, investment, and promotion going on that could prevent that killer app from launching.

There's the wallet apps, the hardware wallet devices, the Xapo debit cards...but we don't quite have our instagram, our tinder, our Uber, our Facebook just yet.

Perhaps once Paypal launches with Bitcoin payments or another brand new application that raises awareness as well functionality, it'll pique the interest of the masses.

But at the moment, no killer app.
2987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple Pay and BTC on: January 29, 2015, 01:20:16 PM
If anything Apple Pay will introduce mobile payments as an accepted medium, which is good for Bitcoin.

Once paying on your cell phone is the norm, BTC latches onto all Android phones (which nearly double or triple iPhone marketshare), and dominate the market.

So bring it on Apple Pay.   Grin
2988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin fails.. on: January 29, 2015, 01:17:38 PM
Since, we're still 200+ points above zero, hundreds of millions of money continuously poured in by angel and VC investors, support by the NYSE, new regulated exchanges popping up...

Yea, if Bitcoin fails, it won't be in 2015, that's for sure.  Would take something truly catastrophic.
2989  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easiest way on: January 29, 2015, 03:45:00 AM
The truly fastest way to earn $1000 worth of Bitcoin is to get paid in it.

Here's the sure fire way to get paid in BTC:

2990  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] [NEW RATES] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: January 29, 2015, 03:30:44 AM
If anyone cares, I have just released my Chrome browser extension that keeps track of how much you have earned right now. The source code can be found on Github. Why post it here? Because people might like it and I'm to lazy to create a [ANN] thread. Grin

Old screenshot:

Thanks for the browser extension Mitchell!

I've been doing it the old school way, looking up my profile, then this thread, then using a calculator.

This makes things easier for tracking.  Good looking out!
2991  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: January 28, 2015, 09:01:40 PM
i really hope i'm able to get back into bitcoin mining someday... i enjoyed it. but my little 15 gigahash isn't even worth turning on right now - even if it is only 72 watts... just a light bulb. (i think. it's a bunch of the USB sticks from ASICMINER.)

got a great electric rate too. oh well.

Same here.  For as much as I'm a HODLER, it's just not the same as when you have an actual stake in mining.

The whole "supporting the network" really hits home, when you have a rig, are constantly monitoring it, upgrading CGminer, tweaking push pull fans so they blow a certain way....

Wish we could go back to 2012-early 2013 mining days.  When you could go small or big and still have fun doing it.

Nowadays, if you don't have a few terrahash, you're simply not even mining honestly.  Just spiking your electric bill for no reason...
2992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges on: January 28, 2015, 08:57:26 PM
I vote for Bitstamp.

After the recent theft, I wouldn't vote them anywhere near the top.

Probably Kraken, Bitfinex, or Coinbase at the moment.
2993  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] [NEW RATES] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: January 28, 2015, 08:48:07 PM
Received my 2nd payment in a row from Bit-X signature campaign.  Thanks once again, Marcotheminer, for running the best run and best paying Sig Campaign in Bitcointalk at the moment!   Smiley

Leaving my Bit-x signature on, so that I can automatically enroll for another month.
2994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is dead! RIP 1/25/15 on: January 26, 2015, 09:29:44 PM
We should a Bitcoin is dead! RIP x/x/15 thread for everyday this year!

Everytime Bitcoin dies, I feel more alive inside.   Smiley

...Because it means it's still alive.  This thing is like Freddy or Jason, can't be killed.
2995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On TV again on: January 26, 2015, 07:36:37 PM
Even if it puts a negative light on Bitcoin, it still makes people wonder what it is, and if they are curious enough, then they will go find out.
That's how most of us got here Wink

Correct.  The only reason I even heard about Bitcoin honestly was Silk Road 1 back in early 2012.  I gradually heard more of it, read more of it, and got into mining in 2013.

Any mention is a good mention in my book, good or bad.
2996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cold storage - HACKED easily on: January 26, 2015, 06:58:05 PM

That would not help with this attack, as the keys are compromised during the signing whether it happens online or offline. If you have a system running a compromised version of ECDSA, there's nothing you can really do to protect the private key of an address that's been used to sign a transaction. That being said, the attacker first has to get you to use a compromised version.
Which definitely can't be defined as 'easily'.
The hack would be rather hard to deploy, especially on a larger base.

large scale = any online wallet can be compromised in this way. When it's about computer, you can not be ever sure. Anyway, why would someone keep a large amount of funds in BTC by having the fear that he can wake up in a morning and see : balance ZERO.

Stop trying to spread FUD dude.

It's already been established, it's near impossible to hack cold storage, unless that attacker somehow installed the compromised version of ECDSA on the cold offline wallet.

Can't be done, only in theory.
2997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what should i do right now? on: January 26, 2015, 06:25:26 PM
I don't use BTC-E, but most exchanges work like this:

1. Set up a wallet like CORE on your computer. It will take days to sync and will take up huge space on your computer. Make sure your computer is secure, wallets are computer files and are only as safe as your computer. DONE

2. Set up an account at an exchange in your country. Use real information. Because you are mixing dollars with BTC, when something goes wrong you will have less recourse if you are deceptive. DONE

3. Fund the account. You could link it to your bank account or use a money order, it depends on the options at your exchange. It takes days to weeks to move dollars, so there will be a wait. Once the funds are credited to your exchange account you can start buying. You can set a price you will pay, or pay the asking price. WAITING

4. Withdraw BTC to your wallet after buying. Your funds are secure once you have moved them to your wallet on your computer. Online wallets and exchanges come with a small chance that the owners will abscond with your BTC. It may be worth the risk for small amounts since wallet apps are so useful for cell phones. But for any substantial amount I would advise you to store that wallet offline.  WAITING

thats what i am unable to do. it says pay me from "perfectmoney, OKPAY"etc. why such a big exchange dont use direct bank accounts. i cant use another exchange because i am gonna make business with PPC.

As I told you above , Coinbase.com do accept Bank accounts as payment method , probably the only one that does
"To buy or sell bitcoin on Coinbase, you must link your account to a US-based bank account, or a bank account based out of the following European countries:"
Quote
Austria
Belgium
Cyprus
Denmark
Finland

Slovakia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland

https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1392031-can-i-buy-bitcoin-with-an-international-bank-account-credit-card-or-paypal-

So if you are one of those countries , you are good to go . Good luck mate Wink

~ Madness.

Just adding to Madness correct comment.

Once you purchase Bitcoin from Coinbase (if your country is eligible), then you can send Bitcoin from your Coinbase account to your BTC-E account.

Once the BTC arrives at your BTC-E account, you'll be able to trade PPC or any of the coins available there.
2998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill Gates 3 problems with BTC on: January 26, 2015, 05:52:40 PM
Just having Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, talking about Bitcoin is a win.

Having him critical of Bitcoin with 3 specific reasons, is 3 wins.

This is the type of thing Bitcoin can learn from and progress from.  Developers and investors alike will take heed and build whatever company or application is necessary to fix these shortcomings.
2999  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think Ponzi affect the price of bitcoin ? on: January 26, 2015, 04:37:06 PM
We need to kickstart a time machine with Bitcoin to find Carlo Pietro Giovanni Guglielmo Tebaldo Ponzi, bring him back to the future and ask him what does he think of Bitcoin. Then and only then, we will be able to find out if Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme or not.

Guy just reeks of scumbag:

If somehow we were able to bring him back from the past, he wouldn't last a minute here.
3000  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much money do i earn from 0.075 TH/S??? on: January 26, 2015, 04:32:44 PM
Hello i wonder how much i earn from mining with 0.075 TH/s??
I would really appreciate it if anyone could answer Cheesy!

I use this tool: https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator

1 TH/s = 1000 GH/s
0.075 TH/s = 75 GH/s

per Day   0.00085778 BTC   $0.21
per Week   0.00600446 BTC   $1.48
per Month   0.02610866 BTC   $6.45

That calculator is wrong.  Doesn't factor electrical costs or pool fees or difficulty jumps.

Only valid calculators to use for calculating Bitcoin mining are the following:
