If one card consistently has a lot more stales than the other, then I would suspect it's actually the GPU miscalculating, and not the data being stale. Maybe the GPU is too hot, overclocked too much? I can't remember if Phoenix detects this sort of thing? If Phoenix doesn't double-check GPU shares with the CPU, then try a miner that does and see if that is your problem. Works with DiabloMiner, my miner (BitMinter) and surely some others.

The answer is obvious. Since my pool is paying +5% bonus on the first 60 blocks, it is more profitable than soloing. There's no point thinking about whether you have more or less luck and what you should do because of that. Luck is completely random. If you don't agree with this, try praying while mining - see if it helps.

My miner is of course best. Ok, maybe I'm a little biased. But it is easy to use and you don't need to install it. If you have Radeon drivers and Java, just click a button to start it. Click my signature if you want to try it. Phoenix was my favorite for a while before I made my own miner. But then it started to lock up if there was a network problem (like pool server restarting). I had to kill it and restart it to get it going again. Sometimes it was stuck all night, not mining. Maybe someone can confirm if this is fixed in the newer versions? DiabloMiner seems like a solid product. Never had any problems with it.

Where my XFX reference is a ridiculous amount louder at even 45% fan vs the 100% fan, but at 50% fan it says at 82C. 100% fan keeps core temps at a chilly 62C... so.... ya....... Alot of OC ability there. I'll OC it up and see if it'll perform for me tonight.
Be careful, don't start a fire

Yesterday we grew about 40% in computing power compared to the day before. Today it looks like we grow more than 100% compared to yesterday. What's going on? Are you guys overclocking?

It's like scratching lottery tickets. It's pure luck how many winning tickets you find.
But if you measure it over several hours and have a fast GPU, it should even out..

Just got the first stale since I reset it today... not bad considering that's over 1000 accepted.
Good, good. Looks like the bugfix got it back to normal. im not so serious miner anyway its always nice to test new things All people are welcome Yep. We have CPU-miners and multi-GPU-miners. We have 24/7 miners, and miners who mine once a week. Just have fun and mine whichever way you want. Website update: chat added. It's under community->chat in the menus. It's also possible to connect to the chat with a regular IRC client, like mIRC (Windows) or irssi (Linux). Connect to irc.freenode.net and join #bitminter

checked my miners today now.. a few more stales and its still .3% but this is the best I have ever seen... could be my internet connection as its less than perfect.
I think 0.3% is too high. And I think maybe you got it because of the pool backend bug today that caused instability with long polling. I hope your stales stay lower now that the bug is fixed.

Another small thing, the miner doesn't remember the child window sizes after returning from perf mode. E.g. I have 2 GPU and only use one for Bitminter, so I closed the other GPU display, shorten the upper window so I get more log display area. Go perf mode, return and it's back to the auto-calc sizes.
Yes, that's annoying. I put it on my list - thanks This is on 11.6B though, might be the same thing in 11.7 as well. Certainly both of them have the full load CPU bug in the other miner.
Didn't know it could happen with 11.6. I'll see what I can do about it.

1. Performance mode doesn't display submitted shares. Is there a reason why you felt it was more important to show work units than the current progress like most other GUI miners?
ToriAmos1963 already requested submitted shares in performance mode. I will have it in there soon! The reason it is this way is because the miner started out without performance mode. I put info specific to a device in that device's own area. And data not specific to a device I put down there. Then I noticed that the speed gauges, at least if you have multiple GPUs, actually slow things down a bit. Also the window got quite big. So I put in performance mode, but didn't think to change the way info is displayed. 2. Text log doesn't scroll with more entries, at least not on my Win 7 64bit, the just gets longer and longer until I can't access the perf mode button Edit: Now it does, maybe I was just seeing things Hehe. Let me know if it happens again. Only problem I am aware of with the log is on Linux if you go to perf mode and back to detailed mode the log gets really big. Will fix when I have time. One slightly more major issue, I get this error on the first restart attempt each time I stopped my GPU. Device [Cypress (#1)] unable to start: Failed to map output buffer(code -12 = CL_SUCCESS) on Cypress (#1)
Are you running Catalyst 11.7 preview? I noticed this happening after I installed 11.7, but haven't found the cause yet. Working on it. If a device fails to start, just hit the start button again. Usually starts on second or third try. Sorry, I don't mean to make your GPU look like an old tired car Will fix! Glad to hear you get good performance

Yes, there are new patches for 4xxx and 5xxx series Radeon in.
On my 5970, with Catalyst 11.7 preview drivers, the BitMinter miner still runs a little slower than DiabloMiner, so I need to work on it some more.
But it would be helpful to hear how the new version compares to people's favorite miners.

Had a pool backend instability for a while today. But the bug is fixed now. Stales were slightly higher for a while - should be back to normal again.

It's fantastic to see the pool owner here taking feedback. I just copied my real wallet address from another site and it worked for me, so there was something wrong with copying the address directly from the OSX Bitcoin app.
Nice - good you got it working Server pool bug fixed and now running stable. Should be back to lower stales.

If you want to earn bitcoins by some other way than mining, perhaps there is work you can do for bitcoins? I think more goods and services being offered for bitcoins would help the bitcoin a lot as currency.
|
|

ok so i have been mining for about 2 hours, and i have so far gained around 40 shares which is worth about 0.001250808586597 btc or aproximately 0.27 dollars, lol not bad for sitting around clicking a few buttons
At such low hash rates, you should be better off joining another pool like BTC Guild and donating 2.5% of any earnings so you can withdraw even very low amounts if necessary. Or join BitMinter and we will pay you 5% extra (until we reach 60 blocks) instead of you donating 2.5%. We also pay out with full 8 decimal places.

I will look into it, but the 34 character check really is just a check for 34 chars. There could of course be a bug there though. You can call the validateaddress command to the bitcoind daemon for validate address. Yeah, I noticed that after I wrote the code that simply checks the length. So it's on my TODO list - it's just a veeeery long list.

I have run into the hitch that I can't change my wallet address on the web page anymore. It gives me an error message that it must be 34 characters long. When I check it and double check it, it is 34 characters.
Hmm. Are you using the "copy to clipboard" button in the bitcoin program and pasting it in? If you are manually copying it, maybe you get some "invisible" characters in there. I will look into it, but the 34 character check really is just a check for 34 chars. There could of course be a bug there though. Until you get the correct address in there, you can set the minimum payout threshold high if you want to make sure there are no payouts to the old address. whoops that should be .3%
I think the highest stales I have seen in the pool so far is 0.05%. And the server load is still low, so it's not that. But the pool backend is experiencing a software malfunction every 10-30 minutes, which is causing long polling connections to be reset. When your long poll is disconnected for a second it can cause a stale or two. I will work to fix this ASAP. At least the pool is still running, and it doesn't seem to be causing that many stales - it's still below most pools I think.

I have 3 miners on your pool, almost 1000 accepted for each with ZERO stales!! Sweet! Hope it hasn't gone up now. I am seeing intermittent error messages from the HTTP library that the pool backend uses. At the same time in the miner running on my computer I see the long polling connection was reset when this was happening. This could cause some stales. I've never seen this happen in the backend until today. I'm working on finding out what is causing this.

Just migrated over to your pool today. I've just got my head wrapped around this bitcoining thing, and I have a couple of Macs to bring online today after work.
Great! Welcome aboard If you have any questions/problems, let me know. We are just starting our mining operation so it made perfect sense for us to start our new venture with a new pool. I hope we can help drive the pool's success. We do operate a 24/7 rig so hopefully we will experience very little down time. We have one more 6950 on its way that we will add to the rig as well. We are also planning to OC the cards to optimize them as well.
That's good stuff! We are already picking up speed - growing a little every day.

I have been using your client for some time now and my speed in ins the 420s, but after I restarted my computer today, my speed is in 330s. I checked my card and all the oc values are correct.
That does indeed sound bad. Looking into this now. Which drivers are you using? Catalyst 11.6? nice
Thanks, mate Dr. I just wanted to introduce my self as my partner and I recently joined your pool with our rig. We operate under the PmmTech name. Look forward to minting with you!
Hi Nice 24/7 work from you guys! To you and other early members - thanks for joining! It's tough getting a new pool off the ground.
