This is national Identity number, It is compulsory you get identify as a citizen and I will say this is not bad because in sane and developed country, it's used to easily identify someone like student, civil servants and as a foreigner when you stay in a country for longer time or just a citizen of the country, they are also used to identify people not just finance but for protection but the bad side this NIN especially in Nigeria, is that they used it for everything you do including your SIM network and bank records which is very bad, their server was left unguard and a skilled hacker toyed with their database and was able to extract some amount of records that were suppose to be hidden from rest of the world. Nigerian government is so lazy and mismanage anything left in their care and will blame the citizen for their failure.

Next time you have this kind of discussion, post it on naija unofficial local board
2984  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is for everyone but not everyone will be for Bitcoin on: January 10, 2022, 08:01:10 PM
Can't help being pessimistic really because for an average person that can only afford $100 worth of BTC. In the bear market, it will just be spent as the value depreciates.

Before an average person can invest they have to have a regular job in which they would not have to spend the little investment they have. And it's a problem too because of the basic necessities that are also inflating. Surviving today has to make an average person find 2-3 jobs to be able to live.

I like you because you understand very well where my point is, the average person who is still struggling to buy BTC of $100 will sell it anytime they have challenge but the rich will always find a way to get means to solve their problem and still hold their BTC untouched. Poor person may rush to sell his $100 as soon as the portfolio time 5. That's what rich people don't, they always wait for right time.

Bitcoin is innovated with a purpose, but at times it gets deviated from its real purpose. For this reason at times people find it different. If bitcoin is at a price that is affordable people would've said it is for everyone. In my opinion bitcoin can be bought upon one's ability, which means any lowest denomination is possible. Even now this is for everyone, maybe making big money out of bitcoin might've got slowed down for the present investors.

If you said the purpose of bitcoin has change, tell me what Microstragies and Elon Musk will later do with their stash if not for making more wealth, I wonder what will happen to BTC in 2050 if I will be able to see an ordinary person with 1BTC on their on portfolio.

It all lies on us, the people I introduced to bitcoin and this forum were always active on this local thread, just that one left and one was banned. It depends on how we are introducing newbies to this local thread.

And if we noticed, moderators and staffs are concentrating on this thread but only require us to work towards it.

2986  Economy / Economics / Bitcoin is for everyone but not everyone will be for Bitcoin on: January 10, 2022, 12:46:09 PM
The average person must have probably heard of bitcoin or cryptocurrency as an asset class, however the means to start and engage with it is always a problem. Many have been capacitated with knowledge and understands what the game is all about, but they have been stopped by a financial barrier that prevents them from reaching the other end of financial freedom.

A Person who is still trying and struggling to feed his family, regardless of the headline of  the moon and lambos they see displayed with other sweet testimonies, they can't just be pulled their self from that shell and to invest in bitcoin becomes a challenge. The sad part of life is that it's not fair because a person will be born and will eventually die as a struggler

If you want your post to be in another board but mistakenly posted on wrong board, scroll down to the last page of your thread and check the left side you will see an option to move topic, click on it and move your topic.
When you click on the move topic, you should see something like below image.

Delete your first thread in the Altcoins  board or move to off topic.

That is a typing error, I actually used  ./autogen.sh the first time and I have tried again, it is the same response.
Can you also simplify  what you said in your last paragraph! I will appreciate the answers to my last question.
2989  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Setting up Bitcoin environment but ./autogen.sh wouldn't respond and other CMND on: January 09, 2022, 12:27:32 PM
I have been ruminating the anatomy of bitcoin and I decided to chooce mastering Bitcoin guide by following every step without jumping any of the step as I know how important some libraries will be but I am hook on some responses I get, the autogen.sh wouldn't respond, I keep getting command not found.
On page 34 mastering Bitcoin, CONFIGURING THE BITCOIN CORE BUILD.
It says that to build command-line bitcoin client or bitcoind, built.unix has to be present in the bitcoin subfolder (build-aux) but when I ran ./autogen.sh, I keep getting command not found. I manually checked the bitcoin folder and the autogen script is right there, all file were successful downloaded, now I don't know where the problem lies.

These are some of the command-line test I have run so far, I downloaded a git application on my machine, since I tried using operating system command prompt but it wasn't working or responding to the commands so I tired the GIT and it worked anyway.
To get started, I downloaded the Bitcoin Core’s source code using git command by cloning the local copy of the source code.

Code:
$ git clone https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.git

The source code was downloaded and was successful and I change the directory using $ cd bitcoin

The time I came to continue from where I stopped, I select the bitcoin core release using version v0.11.2 as the book suggest, also tested the $ git status and everything was working fine until I encountered the first error when I tried to configure the bitcoin core build using $ ./autogen.sh

All other command in the book has refuse to work since autogen.sh isn't giving me the response I'm expecting. I would appreciate if anyone can lift me up from where I stopped.

I have another question that has been confusing, what's the difference between this clone and the Bitcoin core(the main software)?
Is this Bitcoin environment the same as what they called Bitcoind? if it's, then what is the difference between them and Bitcoin Core daemon

2990  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CAN YOUR BITCOIN BE STOLEN ? on: January 09, 2022, 07:03:21 AM

With your second point above, you wouldn't advice to keep such in exchanges and third parties ?
A loss here will see the exchange provide the bitcoin lost right ?

It's always best when you keep you bitcoins on your wallet, the exchange is only there to trade where you either buy or sell, the day they fold up, that's the end of your wallet.
The exchange Hot/cold wallet can also get exposed and the chance of getting back your bitcoin will be very slim. I don't believe when they say SAFU( Funds are save).
2991  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CAN YOUR BITCOIN BE STOLEN ? on: January 09, 2022, 05:25:48 AM
Without exposure of your private keys, can your bitcoin be stolen ?

By exposure, you mean physical expose to the public or to anyone?
Your bitcoin will remain intact on your wallet as long no one has to your private, not their keys, not their money to spend. Your bitcoin will remain locked on your wallet and only your private key is will be required to unlocked them.
You should be mindful of how they are safeguard and stay away from malware like keyloggers, they are keyboard bugs that literally record everything you from your keyboard. You may think you keys are intact but they are exposed to another person.

2993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Some questions about the Staking. on: January 08, 2022, 06:31:52 PM
Hello,
I have some questions about the staking and I'm thankful if anyone answer to them by their numbers:

1- Why the price of the staking is variable and not constant?
2- Which coin is good for the staking?
3- Is https://www.stakingrewards.com/calculator/smartcash/ logical? You bought $214.16 of this coin and earn $3,028 per month!!!

Thank you.

Staking is basically delegating your coins/tokens to support the chain in performing POF (Proof of stake), that way you are supporting transaction validation and this improve the security of that chain.

I will answer your questions
1. To reduce inflation and spamming of the network, some measures are always apply when it come to staking.
For example if there is an annual inflation of 3% of total supply been dedicated to staking, that will increase the supply in time, they have to make sure it doesn't affect the price so, when you see 10% for staking, it will vary as more and more people stake or unstake.
Let's say token A has 20 million for stakers at 10%, the percentage will decrease as more and more people stake and vice versa.

2. All tokens or coins are good for staking, depends on your choice of projects. Low Cap project will promise you heaven and see hell at the end, choose wisely.

3. I'm not sure about that your value but at that value ($214) and the current price, this is the amount you will get in total.

This is the yield you will have after a year provided that it's stable at this rate, if it varies, yiur yield might increase or decrease

First you Get Rich, then you Buy Bitcoin.
I really thought  there is a content inside upon opening the title. Somehow I feel it is clickbait. I don't think to become rich is so easy then buy bitcoin. The better way is buy crypto ( not bitcoin * bet on altcoin) and literally wait for it to go to 100x to 500x and you'll somehow attain becoming rich. That's more better I think.

I assume he was attempting to attract attention with the title.
If the Op post was made in 2018, when Bitcoin initially reached its all-time high, we would still be having the same conversation. Does it really matter on the price we pay to get bitcoin? I've noticed recent threads where people make references to similar statements like:
I am I late, I was able to accumulate 10 btc. I wish I have bought btc in $10,the current price is $250. All these aren't necessary. Do you ever expect Bitcoin to tick 60k? that's the same way it will become so high that it will become difficult for an average person to get hold of 1BTC. Buy or cost average at any opportunity you have and hold for long term because it goings to be something of regret seeing BTC around $1m when the world finally settle down for bitcoin. I know your mind will say that It will be impossible? Slavery was abolished afterwards, and all humans accepted to freedom without hesitation, this will likely to happen to BTC in the future.

Bitcoin isn't a meal ticket or short term investment, the time, tolerance and money is needed.

This guy above just reminded me of Patrick Obahiagbon, and I'm still not sure what the point of those two Yoruba posts was because I couldn't decipher anything important until I used a google translator after staring at the image and post, the fact that we want to build the community shouldn't welcome lack of communication. Not everyone understand other languages, pidgin should have been a better option.

When I used Google Translator, I discovered something fascinating that others might be interested in:

1. It's a copy and paste straight translation. The OP used a translator to flip between two languages instantly.

I believe this is against bitcointalk rules, and the OP is a lazy poster.

I copied his original post, translated back to English and queried plagiarism checker, it was a cool copy paste post.

The first translated post from Yoruba to English.

The source[1] OP copied from

The second translated post from Yoruba to English.

The source[2] OP copied from

The two post were not quote but just additional posts to his quoted copied post. It's plagiarism in my opinion.

2. After checking his post, I went through the profile and I found that OP is a Turkish. His second and third topic were posted on Turkish local board.

*escrow için düşündügüm yontem su sekilde: alıcı parayı escrow a yollar>ben alıcıya istedigi koini yollayıp escrowa bildiririm>escrow parayı bana yollar.escrow komisyon isterse bunu alıcı karşılar.

The OP responded beautifully in two of the quoted topics that were made in the past(2017), and there are additional posts in which the OP has engaged perfectly. Therefore my conclusion is that it's either this is a bought account that want to be active in here or may be OP is attempting to disperse the Naija local board with his new posts.

2997  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk improvement proposal (BTIP)-suggestion on: January 03, 2022, 10:06:39 PM
While SMF is freely available, I understand that theymos has made extensive modifications to the version of SMF that he is using to run the forum. IIRC, one of the reasons he is using the old SMF version is that the license does not force him to make public the modifications that he has made.

It is difficult to propose feature improvements without seeing the code of the product you are improving.

So, I checked the forum footer and it appears to be a powered SMF software package, but you mentioned something about license that I'm not convinced of.
It is plainly stated on the web that it is a free, simple, and open source and that users can tweak it to their satisfaction. According to the wb, those who want to make adjustments can get a guide from the page.

The software even get new patch on every update, the last one was December 2021 v2.0.19 but we're still chilling on 2009 version 1.1.19 machine, looking at the difference, there should be so much improved versions rolled out for public use.

This is the github repo for the "in the works" forum software: https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk-vue

This should be enough if there is a forum software self built by Bitcointalk developers, theymus is seeing every suggestion, they may include the simple ones I think.
2998  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk improvement proposal (BTIP)-suggestion on: January 03, 2022, 12:41:58 PM
You made an effort, but i doubt it's useful since
1. theymos rarely add new feature since there's new forum software on developer (although who knows when it's ready to use).
2. All BTIP status likely remain as "Draft" forever.

Is there official workshop for this software?

This proves how this local thread has been active in 2021. I hope you are already having data for 2022 in mind. I wish I have more smerits, but I sent you the last one I have presently while expecting to send it to another person but your post convinced me. I wish one day theymos will consider we people that applied for merit source so we can use this to also encourage our local community.

You made this place more fascinating in particular, you are the top poster here, and based on the number of topics you created, you deserve a prize. With your contribution so far, I believe you have a better chance of becoming a merit source, and it will be a victory for our local board as well.
Here has been quiet, be like others still doing new year meat. Kiss
3000  Other / Meta / Bitcointalk improvement proposal (BTIP)-suggestion on: January 03, 2022, 08:23:55 AM
Consider how the internet has grown from a private network to internet service providers (ISP) who facilitate access to the internet between servers and clients computers. This shows how the world has advanced with the internet, from military dictatorship to restricted liberties. Yes, the forum update is my proposal! I know the answer will be Nay Nay Nay, but spare me some of your time and go through the idea I want to share, you may not be in support, but please do consider it from this angle. Many threads requesting updates and modifications have been denied, however, the ideas to develop here should not be forgotten, they can be proposed and placed on the BITCOINTALK IMPROVEMENT PROPOSAL (BTIP) waiting list.

I'm not sure how long the forum has been around or when it was first publicly launched, but it's undeniably one of the most popular bitcoin interactive forum. I've seen a lot of Bitcointalk reference links on HOW TO BITCOIN[1], a beginner's guide to bitcoin written by Coingecko, that illustrate how useful this forum has been for many.
I recall reading a discussion about a panic event of Bitcointalk hack[2], it was down for sometime, but Theymos finally got it back when it was moved to Bitcointalk.org[3]. If that day could be captured in a photograph, I would have purchased the NFT and kept it for myself.

I understand that a wrong single line of code might harm a whole network, switching a functional network with an infected code can ruin an entire system, but what if there was pre-transparency in the sense that a member could propose an upgrade to bitcointalk? The user submits his open source proposal as draft, get reviewed and tested by different developers and audited before accepted or denied, the time it takes doesn't matters as long as it serve the purpose. The improvement does not have to be huge, the lighter they are, the faster they will be forum and the less data they will require for hosting.

Consider Bitcoin: it's a complex system that's always being modified to increase security and efficiency as the network expands. Similarly to the current Tap root that was observed in block height 709,632 [4], the proposal was first submitted in January 2018[5] and had a lot of support from developers before been approved and deployed in November 2021[6]. If Bitcoin can do it as an open source, Bitcointalk can do it and more better with Theymos approval, since he's the Global Admin.

I will be providing an example and a format, so that suggestions don't go to junk or get ignored when someone wants to contribute onto the forum. From the GitHub bitcoin community, here's a summary of what BIP is all about, a snip image of Mastering Bitcoin[7].

The bitcoin GitHub repository keeps track of all bitcoin BIPs[8]. Making Bitcointalk proposal similarly to Bitcoin wouldn't be a terrible move, a single table with five BTIP columns with a BTIP serial NO, Title, owner, type, status are enough.

  • BTIP NO - The serial number of BTIP in the table
  • Title - Name or description of the proposal
  • Owner - The name of the Author making proposal
  • Type - Bitcoin protocol is different from forum design by PHP. This depends on how the community or Theymos want forum update.
  • status - The proposal can either get passed, active in the sense that it get deployed, replaced or rejected

Here's an example of what it would look like if it get adopted, with a draft for everyone to make their requests for changes or updated.

I intended to include several old threads that used API to interact with other platforms, such as giammangiato TelegramBot notification alert[9] and ninjastic.space[10] by Tryninja, which would have been BTIP if they had been designed or included as part of the forum, specifically the telegram alert and ninjastic. The two are the most used that I have seen, and there have been a few updates and efforts made but they would have been more better in the forum as alert and archive upgrade version. I've also seen some proposed or recommendations on the forum mobile app, as well as some CSS, but that's irrelevant since this is merely a suggestion for others to consider.
Thank you.
