2981  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: January 09, 2014, 04:45:31 AM
heads up, here is an even better/simpler PSU. 835W, easily jumped PS-ON (pins 3+4), and pairly easy to solder in a few fat wires without fear of shorting them to oneanother

2982  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 08, 2014, 10:34:09 PM
worth putting here:

I took my new S1 unit (with PCI sockets) and a PSU with 630W available on the 12V line

at 400MHz its running a little over 202GH and 46-49C
at 425MHz it still falls to ~191GH

it seems the cooling is not the issue, and the issue cant be the regulators (that would act differently) - The chips simply need more voltage in order to achieve this clockrate.

anyone familiar enough with the TPS53355 or the antminer schematics to identify how this could be achieved? I imagine a pencil mod similar to with the bitfury ystem could be used to slightly increase to 1.20V and allow the unit to push past 210GHash

^vi isnt that difficult:

1) type 'i' to enter the editing (INSERT) mode
2) make all changes needed
3) hit ESC to escape the editing mode
4) type ':w' to write to file
5) type :wq!' to write (twice for good luck Wink) anf force-quit
2984  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: January 08, 2014, 10:02:11 PM
Yes indeed I am coming close to hitting that home miner limitation wall. I am in the process of looking for a commercial space to lease. Right now seeing how it's -19 degrees C outside heat extraction is not the issue, but come summer I won't be able to add any additional hashing power.

As far as electricity costs for me it's 0.09 per kWh which is not bad, but damn 0.02 is amazing.

where in Canada? I am hoping to look into hosting options for mining in the next few months because come spring I will be approaching my electrical capacity (apartment) and also seeking to deal with the heat.

It would be pretty nice to set up mining collectives for industrial space with large mains and cooling capacity
2985  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: January 08, 2014, 02:53:48 PM
I tryed 425 and 450Mhz, but found(Like you said :-) ) over 400Mhz hashrate go down.
My temp is good (At 450Mhz 45°C), PSU is still under lo ad(12v single-rail,50A capable).
I really don't understand why this happen?!
Ok, probably reg overload, but on status page all 64 chip working ok, HW error ok.
I'm thinking.. If there was some way to overclock over 400 with profit hashrate..
Bye

I experienced the same with a PSU having 50A - hashrate at 425MHz was around 185-195GHash due to high temps and HW errors.
As mentioned, the regulator is limited to 30A, but the bitfury systems have domonstrated they can push through a lot more than that (up to around 55-60W @ 0.9V).

In your above situation, 600W on the 12V line may be the limiting factor. if 350MHz needs about 360W and 400MHz needs about 500W, its likely 425MHZ would need around 550-600W and 450MHz likely needs over 600W. I plan to reconfigure some of my rig today with a 835W server supply i have working so I will attempt to push for 425MHz again no that there is plenty of 12V power available.

I just have a quesion that would benefit anyone overclocking further:

How could the voltage be increased? Would increasing the 12V to 12.5V increase the chip-side voltage, or would a pencil mod similar to the bitfury H-boards do the trick? This would produce more speed without needing to increase the frequency presumably, and also require less amperage from the regulator

IMO, 200GH is a good performance/risk (heat and noise) ratio, but with the difficulty rise 190GH will soon be a better option

EDIT: tried 425MHz on a newer antminer that has over 650W available on 12V and temps around 48C at 400MHz - same issue where hashrate starts at about 210-213Gh then quickly settles and sits around 191GHash from there. I assume this is because the chips simply cannot run at that speed without the voltage being raised.

^well, geez feel free to make an offer or pass on this one. I feel the prices are not that far out of line, and the extra 'cost' of paying in cash is to cover the fees/time lost to transferring that cash back into BTC

I am open to offers, but your comment isnt very productive lol. For someone located in toronto, it may be a better deal then to pay $20 for someone in the states to ship a device and take several days to do so.

2987  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [GUIDE] BitFury Miner Support/Tuning on: January 07, 2014, 08:56:06 PM
anyone have the most recent image for v1.2 M-board (PCI power)? Mine is a saved image with custom speeds and its a bit outdated. I would make and save a new one but my SD card is corrupted the second i turn off or power off the unit

P.S. btw, check his wife's last photo album "Munchen" - looks like those BTC's are in good hands Grin
yeah, he took our money, bought miners, did not pay us anything and he is happy because he is thinking: "I live in fucking Hungury - nobody can reach me"..

From what I see he did make a fraud. There is a lot of money in stake.
Can we do something about this?

Assuming the personal information is correct the simplest thing is to issue a European Payment Order. If we want to hire a lawyer I suggest we discuss that and do it as a group.

I am 'stuck' in canada, but am in full support of this
2989  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Bitmain Antminer U1's - Toronto, Ontario on: January 07, 2014, 07:24:40 PM
i have half a dozen of these for sale in toronto, Ontario, canada. They run at 1.6GH stock, but reportedly overclock to 2GH with cgminer or beyond that with physical modification.

0.12BTC each or 3/0.3 - if paying in cash assume BTC value of $1000

Pm me for details or pictures. I am located near king/dufferin and these came in today

Id actually conside the 100ghs kit,  if it were $1750 or so...     I can get 100ghs from bfl instock ready.to go for $1800ish...

at about 7x the power consumption though

Yea not really an issue for.me  Smiley

perhaps, but it seems like common sense. Come spring you will realise its going to become a very warm house into the summer

This is the third time that I have experienced poor UPS service - Drivers not showing up or failing to leave any notices if they did (9:45pm? , and other time while I have been at home with a clear note at the front door) and dispatch centers promising and failing to call back on at least 2 occasions

Maybe i'm the only one, but I would appreciate a second option such as DHL

I think if bitcoin is going to succeed than the mining reward will have to plateau... perhaps at 10 btc per block... maybe 5... either way... I don't think there are only 9 million bitcoins left from mining.

if i understand you correctly, you have no clue how bitcoin mining works. IT DOES PLATEAU (ish) as the total number of coins in existence approaches 21M.
2993  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 06, 2014, 03:02:45 PM
PS. Anyone plz suggest the suitable 'minimum difficulty' for the overclocked antminer (200GHash/S)?
Or Antminer would do this for us?
My pool provides 'minimum difficulty' from 2(by default)/4/8/16/64/128/256/512/1024 GHash to choose.

I would suggest 256. sometimes having a lower difficulty causes too much 'pileup' (at the miner or the pool) and affects hashrate, whereas too high can cause the miner to struggle to complete valid hashes. I use 256 myself at ghash.io and have 197 and 203GH averages from my antminers
2994  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining at Home dying out on: January 06, 2014, 02:56:56 PM
Exhaustive research has proven that mining and marriage dont mix, its like oil and water really, even if you put it in a blender it just gets messy
No way. Miners are providing Winter heat. I'm super-stingy about the thermostat which tends to lead to a lot of arguments, so it's keeping the house 6*F above what I'd have it at right now, and hotter during day time when the sun's helping out. I put a copy of CGRemote on her laptop. It's an extremely intuitive interface. Profit, heat, involvement.

+1

Now that's a good way to keep a marriage going.

Next, if BTC keeps gaining in popularity, you can stick a credit card with BTC in her ass, and send her out shopping, FTW.

does yours like to shove a fishing rod up your ass when she wants to to go out with the guys? weird kink

Yeah I found the 180GH stand alone units to be stupidly simple to setup and very reliable once up and running. Bitfury units on the other hand (perhaps with the exception of v2.2 h-cards with the latest motherboard) are finicky and prone to errors and drops in hashrate. You have to spend a lot of time hand tuning the rigs and even then the cards could just mysteriously decide to crap out on you with SPI and MISO errors, etc.

Anyways, the conclusion is that currently antminers offer better value for the money. If you want the absolute most power efficient though you still have no choice but to go with bitfury rigs.

+1. If bitfury was the same $/GHash I would probably take an antminer, even at the expense of 2x the power use. The antminer is incredibly stable at 200GH (+/- 2%), is structurally sound (no wobbling cards or the M-board tipping over due to a heavy RPI/ethernet cord), and very easy to setup.

oh, and you wont be reformatting SD cards everytime you turn off the power
2999  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 03, 2014, 06:50:36 PM
Does anyone know if it's safe to overclock the new Antminers with the onboard 6-pin PCI-E power connectors when only powering the device with the PCI-E connectors? (nothing in the screw terminals)
I thought the PCI-E power cables felt kind of warm when running on stock clock but it could have just been heat from the unit itself so I want get another opinion.  I'm considering a nice modest 375 overclock.

I guess this question could also be, "is it safe to draw 400-500 W from two 6-pin PCI-E power cables?"

It is safe, I would say over 300W per PCI cable is where you run a risk (look at the bitfury threads, where a full rig can draw up to 800W if overclocked, and there are a few cases of burnt-out PCI cables (most of these though were the 2-headed cables, rather than 2 seperate leads).

As long as the cables are good quality and fairly thick, 200-300W each shouldnt be an issue. One of my antminers is powered by a single 4-pin ATX lead (2x12V,2xGND) to each blade with no issue. However, if your cables have zipties or are in a mesh wrap, it could cause a lot of warmth to concentrate in some areas rather than radiating away or being blown away by a fan. If your cables get warm, just direct some airflow over them and they will quickly return to room temps
3000  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 03, 2014, 06:18:10 PM
^very nice idea of turning the boards around! You might consider trying 425MHz if you want to get an extra 10GHS from the unit since you have nice low temps
