2981  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: April 24, 2022, 04:34:58 PM
As far as I know, Themos has never released clear criteria for adding a new local board. This probably means that it's his personal assessment, I guess based on the activity, the number of local members and more.
If those be the criteria, I think Nigerians here have a pass mark. We beat some local board in terms of that. To be frank, giving Nigeria a local board even goes beyond the mere gesture of a local board. It transcends into continental which by extension will mean that Africa is now fully recognized on this forum.

Having said that, we should just continue enjoying the forum, discussing about Bitcoin and other whatnots, keep the local thread active and alive with quality discussions, bump our request once in a while and wait for a response, i believe we would get one somewhere along the line, i hope it would turn out to be a positive one.
But of course, we shall continue to do all that while watch paint dry so to say.
2982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I found a new hidden gem called AltSwitch. Do you think it will go 100x? on: April 24, 2022, 03:59:16 PM
I checked the token in question and didn't see much of something that will trigger the type of alarm everyone is raising here of it being a scam project. It's my first time reading about this project but from what I saw on Coingecko and the project's site, it doesn't look like a bad project to me. It even has media presence on Reddit which most projects don't have. I guess the alarm most people here are raising won't be far from the fact that it's because a noob account floated the thread to talk about this project. The thing is that a newbie account advertising an unknown project is often taken to be intentionally misleading and that's what is playing out here. I wish people can just review this project from a neutral perspective.
2983  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bear market every team will pump their own coin on: April 24, 2022, 02:05:03 PM
~snipped~
Well, I feel that my coins mostly are in the top 50 coins so I guess the coins have a chance to increase or get a pump. Although I know that the pump will not come to all of the coins but nothing wrong to have a hope Grin
Hope is necessary when it comes to business, even in real life too. It's the last thing that should leave a man. Quite alright, I know a whole lot of people believe that top ranked tokens are good for investment and they would do anything to put their money on these tokens while neglecting rare gems. Sometimes we find gems which aren't even in the top 100 but they make us great ROI. Sometime last year, I bought a token that way around $3 and it went on to do $380 before its token swap. I think Cifi wasn't even in the top 500 then.

2985  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bear market every team will pump their own coin on: April 23, 2022, 01:10:07 PM
Honestly, I don't know from where this bear market alarm is coming from. I would think that after Bitcoin took a momentary pause in the first quarters of this year, it would be a time to rise now. But of course, if not for the dynamics of the market and its demand Bitcoin will be sweeping the ground now with what we experienced in 2018 after its ATH in 2017 like we saw in 2021. The game seemed changed now because of huge institutional investors coming in.

If that's the case, I'm curious what coins will get the pump because that will make each team try to pump up their coin price and attract more traders and investors to join. This requires further research to find the coins to get the right coins for us to buy. And hopefully, the coins that will get the pump are the coins that we have so that we will benefit in the form of USDT or Bitcoin.
Well, that's if the coins you hodl have utility. Otherwise, no amount of pump will make a worthless coin pump to the point that it benefits its hodlers on a long term. Those worthless tokens when pumped only experience instant rise and then dead silence in dump forever.
2986  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The trend is your friend if you know how to identify it)) on: April 23, 2022, 09:41:07 AM
How to determine the trend for bitcoin?
The trend for Bitcoin has always been up for over a decade now. This is why veteran investors will tell you they don't look at charts before buying Bitcoin. They just buy whenever they have need of it. Only a few of them look at charts to take profit while most of them are less concerned about price when buying. Since trend is up for Bitcoin, it simply means no one can be wrong buying at any point of entry or level.

The topic is interesting because correct knowledge of the Bitcoin trend will help predict the direction for 98% of altcoins according to my observations.
Yes, your observation is right. Sometimes I use that technique too if I need to acquire more units of whatever token I'm hodling which aren't "chartable" on my app. I just monitor Bitcoin chart to have a vague knowledge of where that token price could be moving to.
2987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why some promising newbies fail in the forum. on: April 22, 2022, 06:21:15 PM
4. Forum Attacks and/or Policing:
Some promising newbies upon arriving this forum recieve a hostile welcome. To already members of the forum, it might seem normal, but a genuine (first time) newbie who knows nothing about how things work here, may immediately say goodbye to the forum. This would have been my fate
Sadly, this is the case most times and I believe the harshness sometimes is unnecessary. However, to stay real on this, I think some newbies act overbearingly and that could irritate certain users. The end result of such irritation is often harshness. I sympathize with genuine newbies who get such toughness melted on them and they wrongly conclude that every senior ranked account is snobbish like that. I normally find it a problem with newbie accounts which masquerade as experts in what they know next to nothing. Also, for instance, we often see newbies who come here to advertize trading tools, ask for loan or offer loan services, advertise and vouch for sites they largely don't know anything about. Such newbies may not be treated as innocent and genuine newbies. They've something sinister up their sleeves.
2988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I lost +$ 20k in future, advice for newbies on: April 21, 2022, 01:34:42 PM
Before Starting in crypto, i have traded forex in 2016, starting with a capital of $ 500,  i Lost it quickly then i have learned TA, after a few months, i came back and start again with $1k, Wich i turned into 5K in almost 15 days, but i Lost all again because I didn't respect rules and take more risk then i realized that forex isn't for me.
Well, your narration shows truly that you suffered great loss. However, I think you messed up a trading plan that fetched you profit because you got carried away too soon. If a plan made you money, you ought to have settled with it and mastered it for greater profitability. Again, you quit too quick after suffering just two defeats from the market. Trading (whether forex or crypto) isn't an easy thing. You should've stayed a while to revisit the grey area of your failure and then try again. There isn't any profitable trader who didn't suffer losses before mastering the art.

You won't blame her for thinking that way, anyway. You made trading look like gambling to her.
2989  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Forex trades is a part of Crypto Trade? on: April 21, 2022, 08:09:00 AM
OP should know that in Forex trading not only currency pairs are traded. Gold, silver, crude oil etc are also traded and paired against fiat. So, it's not only fiat to fiat dealings. Notably, certain forex trading platforms this day now offer crypto pairs too for trading.

2991  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Professional newbie on: April 19, 2022, 10:47:33 AM
I prefer professional newbies to ignorant veterans, honestly. The first set enlightens and are relatable while the latter sits pompously on their ignorance in claims of what they know not. In 2017 when I joined this forum I was virtually a stark illiterate on crypto matters and was constantly getting lost in discourse. Whenever I see genuine newbies this day on the forum who are highly knowledgeable, I admire them. We all can't be deficit in the same thing.

You did not include one category of newbie, the Lurkers.
There are also veteran lurkers too.
2992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Meritocracy on: April 19, 2022, 04:49:42 AM
According to English Dictionary. "Meritocracy refers to a rule by merit, and talent". In other words merits are given to those who have done great contribution to develop the system, and  also have done well in their field of specialization to educate people.
Bestowing merit on posts (as it's the case here) or on something else outside here is a subjective decision. It's subjective in the sense that people don't necessarily award them because it's generally accepted that it should be. Sometimes, worthy achievements are often overlooked because those who would ordinarily award them believe the achiever is their antagonist. For instance, political activists don't get any meritorious award by those they seem to be criticising or campaigning against. Yet, activists do well in their line of duty to educate people. Sorry I had to draw that analogy to elucidate my view on that.

I guess you should add a third – Character.

I've seen great posters here who lack that. They talk down on others for no just reason apart from the fact that they disagree on issues, especially those they think they're better off than; maybe because of the rank difference. We've to learn to treat others with respect or perhaps the same level of respect they accord us. Character and Learning to Educate should be encompassing and that's why citadels of learning try to instill that in students.

Gang-related violence, homicide, extortions, kidnaps are all part of daily life in El Salvador. It's one of the places with the highest murder rates in the world, if not the highest.
Oh, really? Just like @Oluwa-btc, I thought Bitcoin lovers would consider El Salvador as a Bitcoin eldorado. Well, I think I can safely change my mind now too 🤔

Back to the OP, I strongly believe the idea of jettisoning fiat completely for Bitcoin will not be feasible until there's a mechanism for evaluating Bitcoin value in terms of fiat. Until Bitcoin stops getting paired with fiat to ascertain what it's worth, it won't be possible to do. No one can completely live off it.
2994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: buy my home with bitcoin on: April 19, 2022, 02:34:48 AM
If you want to own a property in Jakarta, you can contact me, I sell for 2 bitcoins only
if interested pm me Wink
2 Bitcoin for an unseen mouthed property? I think you're merely trolling. I haven't seen anyone trying to sell a property without displaying it to get the interest of prospective buyers. If not picture display in whole, at least a part of it  Why aren't you doing that? Again, to show you aren't serious with it, you haven't been that engaging here so that people will get to find out other details of the property.
2995  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does trading really works? Likely based on guesses on: April 18, 2022, 07:54:17 PM
4) If your strategy is giving you money so why are you selling it: You'll see something like "Enrol for my trading master class for the sum of $500 and become a consistent profitable trader, only 10 seats available" it sucks!
Yes, that gimmick sucks! It's deceitful, yet many can't see through it even as an obvious scam that it's. Traders should be cautious and maintain a level of patience. It's that vaulting ambition of becoming successful at all cost that makes more fall prey to scam.

Well, on trading being based on "guesses" I think that's a malapropism. We could say trading is speculative in nature, not that it's guesses. There are parameters that guard the decisions traders make and not that they just throw up speculations. Indicators are there to enable them watch platforms. Come to think of it, life itself is filled with speculation. Even when we're buying or selling stuff offline that aren't crypto related we still speculate. What about getting a life partner for marriage; we still speculate. Everyone who gets married often choose from the pack they've; that's speculation that the one they're picking will make a better home for them. Sometimes that pick fails too to make them a better home just like when we place a buy order and the market goes to sell.
2996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammer get scammed on: April 18, 2022, 05:47:56 PM
but do you guys know the funniest part of it he even called me with a Nigeria phone number but I returned his Etherume yesterday because I believe that anyone who keeps what belongs to a thief is also a thief and I don't want to be path of that word.
You chatted with someone and had their funds and you're asking for their identity before you could send back their money? You're unbelievable and I think your story is beginning not to add up. I hope you aren't out to tarnish the image of Nigeria here. I challenge you to provide the forum the etherscan of that transaction since you said you sent the alleged scammer back their cash. Failure to provide us with the tx id will only mean that you merely targeted a particular country to spread falsehood and then lied through your teeth to achieve that. You could get tagged for that, you know.
2997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do your own research on: April 18, 2022, 02:11:36 PM
One language I’ve observed very often when it comes to cryptocurrency is “Do your own research”
As a matter of fact, some person might want to advise you on trading coins then at the end of the day it comes down to “I’m not a financial advisor so do you own research”
DYOR – Do Your Own Research, is a caveat emptor and it goes to show how the adviser or writer tries to extricate themselves from any form of blame if the advice backfires. It's the same way journalists/writers use "allegedly" to evade libels or slander in their write-ups and speeches. For cryptos, DYOR is an advice inside an advice that reinforces the fact that no individual is certain where price can head to or of the rate of success any project can get. It's not surprising that people like to rely on the research of others to make and take decisions, claiming they're standing on the shoulders of giants to see far. Most times these supposed giants are even mediocres who don't actually know their onions. Invariably, it should be nice for everyone to do their own research by themselves before embarking on any form of investment.

Goverment need to step in and support our losees also i hope they do btc stable
I haven't read anything as hilarious as this on this forum. This takes the cake off every other funny comments I thought I had read. For real, are you serious dude? You just sounded like a whining participant in trading. Bitcoin's volatility seems to have even eased off now by my estimation. You should've been here a few years ago to know what price fluctuation was. Again, if Bitcoin price were stable many people won't find it exciting to trade at all.
2999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investors need to know about charts reading too on: April 18, 2022, 10:44:51 AM
What you described here is trader-investor kind of indulgence. The whale investors would think they don't necessarily have need for charts (but I dare say that it's necessary). It's not because they ordinarily wouldn't want to but because reading charts is a complex art. Trading is more difficult than investing. In trading, you've to preempt the market on short notice while investment is expectedly done on long-term target. If trading were as simple as buying into projects for hodl, every trader should be well made. I encourage any investor who has free time on their hands to also go learn charting too. It helps prevent one investing at the top of price or taking profit at the bottom. As an investor, you may not necessarily look at the chart of the project you want to buy to get in, just look at BTC chart (which is always available) and you will get the message in rough.
