301  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Lightning] The Lightning Address on: September 10, 2021, 12:27:03 AM
BlueWallet added support for Lightning Address a few days ago. I don't think that it supports keysend payments so it's a quite surprising turn of events to me.
302  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ElectrumX - extremely long sync time on: September 08, 2021, 07:57:38 PM
I imagine you've scrutinized the setting for anything that could hinder the connection.

Proxmox should have a negligible impact on the I/O. I suspect that the USB protocol might be imposing some kind of limitation (like limited IOPS?).

Did you have to sync core on the system, and if so did that take long as well?

No, I was using that drive with my previous Raspberry Pi build. I reused it so I didn't have to sync from the beginning. My node catches up quickly when I lose my Internet connection so I guess it wouldn't take a long time.

Have you tried with a different VM environment?

I can't really do that. I have a bunch of other VMs.
303  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ElectrumX - extremely long sync time on: September 05, 2021, 11:08:36 PM
ElectrumX took a little longer to synchronize, about 36.5 hours.

That's interesting. I wonder what is the bottleneck in my system then. At first, I thought that the USB SSD was the culprit but it should still be faster than your HDD. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my setup?

I suppose the Lightning Network is the solution for tiny, fast transactions between buyers and sellers.

That's exactly what it was designed for - instantaneous micro-payments. You don't need to lock up a large amount of coins on the Lightning Network unless you want to earn money off payment routing (which is not as easy as it may sound).
305  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria Local Board, All board discussion welcomed. {No Official Language} on: September 03, 2021, 10:08:26 PM
Are you suggesting that if I use the lightning network, I can't pay to a random wallet until both myself and the other person first start a channel?

Both of you need to be able to use Lightning Network in some way. You can open a channel to some large node while the other person can use, for example, BlueWallet which takes care of the channel management for the user. If both of you open a direct channel to each other then you won't have to pay any routing fees. They are negligible in most cases anyway.

So, in order for his wallet to be connected to our channel, the receiver must be aware that I'm sending over lightning network? Is it feasible to send it without the receiver's permission?

Yes, the receiver has to provide you a special Lightning invoice which is unique for every payment. The Lightning Network also supports spontaneous (keysend) payments but they are not that common. Also, both of you need to be online to settle the transaction.

It appears that not all addresses are supported by the lightning network; when I imported my legacy address into my eletrum wallet, I was told that "Lightning is not supported."

Yes, you need a native SegWit (P2WPKH) wallet.

If you dey use Electrum, you fit experiment it with two Electrum wallets, but BlueWallet makes it easier for newbies. To get more technical knowledge about it, Electrum is the best.

Make sure to check out Electrum Lightning Network walkthrough if you decide to give the Lightning Network a try. BlueWallet might be a better idea for a first-time experience since you won't have to worry about stuff like incoming/outgoing liquidity.
307  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 03, 2021, 04:08:41 PM
Interesting - since it was mentioned in this thread that lnd pulls way more on the resources than c-lightning, maybe it's worth a try with c-lightning?

Sure, you can give it a try. Although, you will have to install everything manually rather than use some out-of-the-box solution.

How long did it take to sync your full node?

I copied the block data from my computer. I didn't want to waste time so I started the sync while I was waiting for all parts to arrive.

How long was it taking to sync the ElectrumX before you give up?

Somewhere around one week. The sync was not even halfway through. It took less than a week on different hardware. See this topic.
308  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with Electrum transfer! on: September 03, 2021, 07:40:55 AM
Can you see an incoming transaction in the "History" tab?

It says in my Electrum wallet that the transfer expires in 4 hours. What happens if my bitcoins doesn´t come within these 4 hours? Are they lost?

Don't worry about it. Your transfer won't expire. The expiry time does not have any impact on coins. It is available to make it easier to track payments.
309  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 03, 2021, 12:14:22 AM
That's good to know. So it was hot with c-lightning or lnd?

I was running LND on the Pi. I don't think it matters; It would have been hot with c-lightning as well. I don't remember how much CPU LND was using on average. I believe that bitcoind was stressing it the most.

And did you then use an external SSD or how did you manage the storage?

I bought a 1 TB Sandisk Extreme USB SSD. I am still using it in my current build (I didn't want to spend any extra money on another internal drive) and it seems to be working as well as other SATA SSDs.

I also tried running ElectrumX on the Pi but I couldn't stand the noise of the fan which started kicking in even more frequently. The initial sync was taking so long that I eventually gave up.
310  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 02, 2021, 11:18:03 PM
Hey LN friends, I'm a c-lightning user for around half a year now, and I'm seriously debating about switching to lnd instead. What do you guys think is the cleaner solution? And what is the more commonly used implementation here?

I have been using c-lightning for quite some time now and I am really satisfied with it. I am not a developer, though. All I care about is stability and some useful features. I really like that you can easily open multiple channels via a single command (unlike LND which I believe requires user to construct a transaction manually using PSBTs). We have been also experimenting with dual-funding here.

I ran into some problems with macaroons while using LND. It's been a long time ago so I can't give you the exact details.

A Pi is though much more compact and easier to tuck away, I was thinking of still getting a model 4 with the Argon One m.2 case (https://thepihut.com/products/argon-one-m-2-raspberry-pi-4-case).

I also used that case (without the m.2 slot) for my build. Nevertheless, the Pi was getting quite hot very often despite the built-in fan and included thermal pads. Also, the fan is a little bit noisy above 50% of its maximum speed. I eventually moved my node from the Pi to a normal server.

[...] but I would like to mention that I tried c-lightning with a pruned node, since it was mentioned everywhere that it should be possible, then ran into issues. When asking in the community, I was told that indeed those issues were due to me running Bitcoin Core pruned, so I had to go back to square 1 and restart Bitcoin Core in non-pruned mode.

Thanks! As you already know, I am working on the update of the first post. I will make sure to include this piece of information.
311  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [LIST] Crypto exchanges that accepting Lightning Network on: August 31, 2021, 07:42:31 PM
I don't know exact node capacity and other details about it.

They are running two nodes - bfx-lnd0 and bfx-lnd1. They even have a dedicated website which shows their nodes' liquidity. Right now, they can receive ~5.4 BTC and send ~25.7 BTC via the Lightning Network.
312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting bitcoin as payment for my business on: August 26, 2021, 10:16:50 PM
Thank you very much. Many on the thread have suggested using Lightning network. I have to read more about it though, I know there are threads that explains the LN on the forum. I just have to search for them.

Make sure to check out Basics of The Lightning Network and The Lightning Network FAQ. The latter one is fairly active; feel free to ask your Lightning related questions there. However, that thread contains slightly out-of-date information. I am currently working on an update. I will probably publish it at the beginning of the next week. You might also find this list useful.
313  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: August 24, 2021, 09:45:57 AM
this seems to be moving into "The Lightning Network News"

It's been like that for most of the time anyway.

Zion's github mentioned it's Relay forked from Sphinx protocol, i wonder if they're talking about protocol used for Sphinx Chat?

Yes, they are. Relay is actually what you need if you want your node to be able to work with Sphinx Chat.
314  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: August 24, 2021, 12:37:23 AM
I haven’t explored the website yet, but a this is a social network platform built on the Lightning Network called “Zion”, https://getzion.com/

There is also Sphinx Chat. It's been around for quite a while and anyone with LND node can use it. It works on the same principle as Zion and offers similar features.

315  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance withdrawals limits {0.05 BTC accounts} on: August 23, 2021, 11:13:07 PM
I also like the fact that lightning network withdrawals are supported which is something I believe no one has done so far.

Bitfinex supports Lightning Network deposits and withdrawals as well. They also maintain two fairly large and well-connected nodes (bfx-lnd0, bfx-lnd1) so payment failures should not be a real problem.

317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Observer on: August 20, 2021, 02:13:27 PM
Somehow I forgot to mention those threads before.
Added to OP together with some other useful resource.

You might also consider adding Electrum Lightning Network walkthough to your list. If someone is using Electrum as their main wallet then they might give Lightning Network a try if they see that thread. Some people might find All Lightning Network Threads In One Place useful as well.
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Observer on: August 20, 2021, 08:43:40 AM
i dont much know about litghtning network

Take a look at The Lightning Network FAQ and Basics of the Lightning Network.

his would be great if big centralized exchange join this, i mean as you can see when we transfering bitcoin to exchange wallet the exchanger still need to transfer to their hot wallet vice versa when withdrawing, they can cut cost if implementing this right

Bitfinex already supports Lightning deposits and withdrawals. They have two really large nodes (bfx-lnd0, bfx-lnd1) which are well-connected. They charge only 0.000001 BTC (~$0.05) for Lightning withdrawals.

Ciekawi mnie jednak najbardziej.
