301  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How scalable is bitcoin? on: June 19, 2014, 06:11:31 PM
it would be possible to change the protocol to allow for transactions involving less than a satoshi, but it may not be necessary. i'm not convinced that, in time, BTC will be used as a day-to-day currency, for buying TVs and such. more so for settling of accounts, large value money transfer.
302  Economy / Services / Re: XBTec ASICs. We pay for signature. Weekly payouts on: June 19, 2014, 06:09:24 PM
wow, a lot of unreasonable people around here. XBTec seems to be running the campaign professionally, and it's appreciated that they are looking at posts, considering the amount of spammy posts these campaigns can generate. looking forward to the next cut -- i'd like to join. Smiley
303  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst Thing You'd Do For A Bitcoin? on: June 19, 2014, 12:26:38 AM
hmmm. i guess rent out my signature space for a company i know nothing about?  Cheesy

question is -- what would you do for $600? because if you had that, you could buy a bitcoin right now..... ain't that much, really. i wouldn't do anything too drastic...
304  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: June 19, 2014, 12:25:19 AM
yeah they aren't as good.. it's not really a substitute for cigarettes, though it does help a little bit.

They don't substitute at all. I wasted money trying two e-cigs, and a bunch of different cartridges. What a waste. I'm a smoker, what can I say?

One of my buddies bought a e-cigg and it's actually pretty decent. He makes a custom blend of mint flavor (doesn't add ANY nicotine at all), and it's just a really nice taste in your mouth sort of thing.

I experimented with different flavors and different vapor levels. Upping the thickness of the vapor didn't do a thing for me either, in terms of substituting for smoke. To each his own, I guess. Undecided

I do like the idea. It just doesn't work for me.

i couldn't get consistency.. there were some combinations that worked really well for me. i still wanted cigs, but i wanted them less. unfortunately, i can't get the consistency i like.. so i continue to smoke about 4 cigs a day.

same here -- 4-5 cigarettes a day. one on the way to work, 2-3 at work, one on the way home. if it weren't for this damn dayjob, i'd have quit by now! Undecided
305  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online Wallet Anyone? on: June 19, 2014, 12:23:39 AM
I wouldn't use exchanges unless they've been fully audited and you know they aren't stealing your funds. Blockchain isn't a bad idea but you must have 2FA enabled - I wouldn't use it without that function. You could alternatively have a copy of an encrypted Electrum wallet that's stored on a cloud storage with 2FA - that's just as safe if not more.

these audits don't really prove anything. the auditor is not given full access to exchange data -- only a specific window. this could, in theory, be very easy to beat.
306  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Chargebacks on: June 18, 2014, 10:48:53 PM
we will see "BTC chargebacks" (note the quotes) when we see more centralized entities holding peoples' bitcoins for them. i think that is inevitable. off the blockchain, "BTC" may only be numbers on a ledger.
307  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: June 18, 2014, 10:38:43 PM
i smoke cigarettes. been telling myself for years that i would quit my age 30. turning 27 next month. the time to quit is coming soon.....i'm not quite ready. Undecided
308  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 18, 2014, 10:37:34 PM
[trolling] Participating in the auction is morally dubious. Are you a fence? If not, after buying these coins you should return them to their rightful owners. [/trolling]

something tells me that the people who are trying to bid on the SR coins, do not share many of the principles of many [ancap/right libertarian] bitcoiners....
309  Economy / Speculation / Re: What the heck does "Wall street is going to 'move in'" mean? on: June 18, 2014, 10:35:24 PM
For some reason I get the visual of a circle of men in suits and ties agressively converging on Bitstamp with suitcases full of cash, forming a spartan shield formation and executing a suprise attack.

Similar but for me it is a bunch of men in suits with Harvey Specter coming into a downtown Manhattan Office saying here is the deal you give us what we agreed on or we will show the jury all your dirty laundry Keeples XD.

___
But in reality its probally a bunch of CEO's Companies and big investment firms all agreeing to get in big on Bitcoin and pouring a large amount of their venture capital share holdings and trusts into the sphere in companies retail banking or firms.

Or even just buying Bitcoin themselves and holding it.

but what would this look like in practice? are we sure it isn't already happening? the impression i get from many people is that they think, "wall street enters, then bitcoin to 1 trillion"
310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using a minimum wage job to earn BTC? Is it worth it? on: June 18, 2014, 10:33:59 PM
So now working a job is a "method" to earn money? Lol. Yes it is. In fact, it's the most obvious method out there, but not really the best. I would suggest doing some freelance work on sites like fiverr instead, so you wouldn't be tied down to a job like that.

this is really just the same thing. it sounds like, if one is getting a job to buy BTC, they don't need that job to make a living. just the same, could be comparable to doing freelance jobs on Fiverr, or the like...
311  Economy / Speculation / Re: What the heck does "Wall street is going to 'move in'" mean? on: June 18, 2014, 10:13:21 PM
it means "i'm a bagholder and wall street only invests in the billions of $$, so obviously they will invest in bitcorns, immediately driving the price to six figures, never to return."
312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why satoshi is gone? on: June 18, 2014, 10:10:18 PM
He got fed up with his pet project being swarmed by lunatic AnCaps and left in disgust

boom, headshot. i think this is probably not the case, but awesome punch line. most likely he figured bitcoin got to the point where he no longer needed to play an active role.
313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bubble incoming! $3800 - $4000 expected on: June 18, 2014, 10:08:04 PM
I wish TERA would make another illustrated prediction so we can add it to our collections of Goofy Forecasts Grin

Didn't Tera turn bull a few weeks ago though?

Aside from the usual trolls pretty much everyone is bullish right now.
In terms of short term trading (the next 6 months) I was bullish for the past 6 weeks, until 550 was breached. Now I am neutral and think there is an equal chance of rallying and of beginning a C wave down and the next 2 weeks of consolidation will be critical.

Long term I have always been bullish and remain bullish.

Jesus you keep that bullish enthusiasm well hidden.
Hahaha Tera don't you think it is a strong indicator that everyone except you thinks you are too negative?
It's an indicator that everyone is short sighted.

i tend to think this way as well. it's sensible to be bullish long term, but there are cycles within cycles, and retracements to be made. it's not all up, up, UP and bubbles nonstop. i think the bubble will happen when the bulls start losing faith, after we break some long term supports and rebound. fakeout stylee.
314  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: June 18, 2014, 10:05:55 PM
I've been using Mozilla Firefox for ages now, but to be honest, it seems more memory/resource-heavy than it used to be. Or maybe I am visiting more resource-heavy web pages.... anyway, probably about time I should try out Chrome, from the sound of it.

Chrome is the most resource-sensitive browser. It runs separate processes for each tab. I have been running Firefox and Chrome both on my PC and monitoring memory usage. Chrome tops all other browsers, so you're better off with Firefox.

?

i believe he meant chrome tops other browsers in terms of memory usage. meaning, use chrome, use more memory, computer runs slower. funny, i had heard the opposite as well, though.
315  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your Highest Loss IN A Day on: June 18, 2014, 10:03:42 PM
i don't like to think about this one. when bitcoin was rallying in early march, i thought it was a fakeout. i shorted at 585, stopped out my position and lost $1500 in about 30 minutes. Undecided
316  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: June 18, 2014, 10:02:37 PM

Risking 171BTC to make a satoshi is putting martingale into perspective

I want to answer to OP : try it for free, you will see that you will win sometimes and lose sometimes Wink No betting strategy beats an house edge

martingale can beat it. the only catch is, you need enough money that you will literally, never ever run out. with bitcoin's finite supply, this is actually impossible. Wink
317  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Chargebacks on: June 18, 2014, 10:00:52 PM
if they paid BTC, there is no third party (Virwox, Paypal) that could accept their claim. that is the beauty of BTC. once you are paid, you are golden.
318  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: June 18, 2014, 08:23:15 PM
variants of martingale will work. if you are willing to lose money to make money. as someone mentioned, martingale ALWAYS fails eventually, but if you have a good system for taking profit on runs, you can beat it. there are better ways to make money, though, imo.
319  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 10, 2014, 05:29:24 PM
what is with bearstamp? never seen such a big spread between stamp and bfx except in the middle of a massive pump.
320  Economy / Speculation / Re: 10/21 EMA has crossed! Weekly MACD set to cross up! Full Moon in 7 days! on: June 05, 2014, 11:38:04 PM
Still a lot of short term bears thinking the price will go below $650.

My advice is don't count on it to happen.

my advice is don't plan on a correction never happening. Tongue i'm watching the 590 level closely (.382), also 560 (.500). if those levels fail, could be that the rally is failing.
