301  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: buying players ,to keep onevsone game active on: June 05, 2015, 06:02:30 AM
What kind of game is this?  It seems like you bet against other players?  It might be interesting.
302  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: PrimeDice small happy hour ---> HH is now over on: June 05, 2015, 05:58:47 AM
when do these happy hours happen?

They happens when they are announced.

Might by at any hour, at any day.

There is no pattern

Generally speaking how often are they?  Like once a week or so?  More or less often than that?  Thanks.  That is a pretty nice faucet bonus btw.
303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitnation's semi official space agency... on: June 05, 2015, 04:42:30 AM
And I was SO sure that they were going to go TO THE MOON!  At least based on the thread title Tongue
304  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wyoming Division of Banking Spooks CoinBase! on: June 05, 2015, 04:40:56 AM

Coinbase better figure out some way to allow their customers to put up the fiat in some sort of a bond or some such.  Seems unlikely that this trend will stop at Wyoming.

(Even though it makes negative logical sense given the stated goal of the regulations...) I would put up, say, $25k to do $25k worth of activity since the need would be transient and the $25k would be the 'bandwidth' rather than some sort of a total.  Nobody (should have) ever expected the interface between cyrpto and mainstream to be easy, cheap, or counter-party-risk free since mainstream financial systems themselves fail on all three counts.

Obviously I'd want some way to be reasonably sure I get my money back.  The mainstream financial system lacks the kinds of mathematical guarantees that are possible with crypto where I could have much better confidence that a bond would be returned since it could not be appropriated indefinitely.  Not that Coinbase seems very interested in developing these crypto technologies, but they are possible and will be selling points to future off-chain providers.

I am not sure it matters if the trend continues.  Where will the people in Wyoming go now?  Why to competitors that are not based in the usa.  The difference between Coinbase and traditional banks is that the banks have fractional reserves.  AFAIK none of the online exchanges/wallets do this.  So you might have a lot more security with coinbase versus a traditional bank.
305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which comes first: Halving or max transactions exceeded? on: June 05, 2015, 04:36:00 AM
Is the 20 MB blocksize increase planned for bouth bitcoin and gavin coin ?

I think you are confused about this.  There will not be a second coin, no gavin coin, no double coin, none of this nonsense you have been reading from the noobswarm.  Oh, wait.  I get it.  Never mind, carry on.  Nothing to see here.
306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Light bulbs mining Bitcoin, what's next? on: June 05, 2015, 04:33:40 AM
I think that the only real use for this is as a space heater.  Otherwise it is a phenomenal waste of electricity.  We have energy problems in the world and we are wasting it with this nonsense.  It is a brilliant idea, don't get me wrong.  I just don't think it is very practical.
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Circle Android app has 10,000 to 50,000 downloads. on: June 05, 2015, 04:31:59 AM
wasn't it circle that was giving away $5 worth of bitcoin to everyone to attract user to itself?

if the 10,000 50,000 downloads are related to their promotion it doesn't show anything about the popularity or anything about the service. it shows that so many people got $5

True but you have to admit that it was a brilliant way to promote it.  They must have spent a ton on this promotion but it appears that it gained them some traction.  If they have goldman money, then they are bankrolled by the usa taxpayers.  This puts them in a good position to take risks like this promotion.
308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Blockstream the reason why 4 core developer won´t increase the blocksize? on: June 05, 2015, 03:34:31 AM
XT up and running.

I've come to despise the Bitcoin Core developer's obstructionist position, and have voted with my nodes.

Cheers!  Thanks so much for your vote.  Someday when I have a budget for it, and more technical ability, I hope to set up a node myself.  Of course by then there might not be any point to a small time home based node.  But sane people like you should help keep us safe from the recent insanity and nonsense.  Thanks!

Thanks for the links Lauda, I will have to read up on this guy.  He sounds like a real menace, threatening to kill people.  He might see a psychiatrist, they can help with that sort of thing.
309  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial Firms Investigating Bitcoin "Tech" on: June 05, 2015, 03:21:31 AM
nothing new here as they have been saying that they are looking into the blockchain technology with great interest before. i'm sure we'll see them using it within 10 years from now.

LOL, you beat me to it. This is old news just being recycled.
There are many such kinds of news, such as some companies adopt bitcoin payment, some financial instituations are investigating the bitcoin technology, some finanical or political elites are joining bitcoin related startups. As bitcoin develop, they become normal.

Yes I agree, but still its the same news over and over. Everything you just said has been said to death over the last few years.

It may be the same news over and over again, but it seems to me that the news is beginning to come from larger outlets and is reaching more people.  The more the average person gets used to the idea of bitcoin and cryptos, the more comfortable they will feel adopting it into their lives.
310  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: sha asic seller on: June 04, 2015, 04:23:13 PM
I think the s5 is better than the s4 because you have more of a margin as far as electricity prices go.  The s5 efficiency just can't be beat.  Also consider that you can purchase hash from hasnest for s3, 4, and 5 (maybe 2, are they still doing 2?).  You can hold it for as long or short a time as you want, and you can sell it back when you are done.  Their market place has no transaction fees.  Or you can buy an s4/5 and have them run it for you in their facility.  When you want you can have it shipped to you.  Check it out, this is my favorite way to buy hash.  Depending on your electricity costs it might make sense for you.
311  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hardware whats going on? on: June 04, 2015, 03:49:49 PM
There is a lot of talk about the next batch of antminers but so far nothing has been released.  There seem to be quite a few models in the works, this should be an interesting year for hardware.
312  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Any Solo mining Pool on: June 04, 2015, 03:16:12 PM
read my signature.  i rent from  nice-west hash to mine at ckpool

here   I am

http://solo.ckpool.org/users/114J9nTVYHq5ZXA5hKorTLpyF6pxZgL6pf

How are your returns on that?  Do you do better than hashnest?  The cost is up since bitcoin price went down, but when I bought in at hasnest I was getting ~3% every 10 days or so.  Thanks for the links I will have to check those out.
313  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Is it possible for a pool to steal your hashrate? on: June 04, 2015, 03:10:37 PM
Plus even if it was possible a pool getting caught doing this would be out of business.  I don't think they would risk that.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin really is useful. Just not in the way you think on: June 04, 2015, 03:08:13 PM
While I applaud the use of the blockchain for other decentralised services I wish people would see that MOST of these articles that are saying the Blockchain tech is useful are really just another concerted effort to negate Bitcoin as a currency. They all start with well of course Bitcoin is BS as a currency BUT hey we can use it for something good anyway. This is simply a development of the onslaught of negative press related to Bitcoin.

The best lies are the ones with half truths. Bitcoin is a currency and has the 'potential' to turn the world upside down and rid the world of financial corruption at the core i.e. the FED if its accepted by the masses. Don't believe any article that suggests to you otherwise.

You may be right, but in this case I think even bad publicity might be good.  At least people are becoming aware of bitcoins.  Also your average person might want some shady cash: in the usa for example there is an absurd law against online gambling that was surely bought by the Indian casinos and vegas.  Your average american might see this and think it would be a great way to put 20 bucks on sunday's game.

I hope that bitcoins could somehow rid the world of corruption, but somehow I doubt that those in power would let that happen.  I tend to be cynical I I would love to be wrong in this case.
315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ransom Paid In Bitcoin on: June 04, 2015, 03:02:50 PM
they didn't say it but is this another story about sospicious email with an exe file where they clicked on it like dumb fishes?

because the fault it's only in their hand, and has nothing to do with bitcoin, it is just more convenient to use ask it for hacker to pay in that way because, more trouble can rise for tracking it back

I can't beilieve that people still fall for that exe trick.  I only use software from trusted sources and everything is scanned just in case.  It might be a matter of education: maybe the average person has no idea that you can get a virus this way.  I know it sounds absurd but I think it is the case.  Maybe we need PSA's about computer safety and not the ridiculous ones about cigarettes.

And no I am not saying that ciggies are not a health problem but many of the commercials are over the top ridiculous.
316  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: They're mining with light bulbs now. What's next? on: June 04, 2015, 09:01:49 AM
Ahh,The Vibraminer™!!!! Mine with Pleasurepower!!!!  Grin  Cheesy

or The Vagiminer™  Cheesy

Definitely go with the Vagiminer.  Did you register that yet?  Better hurry up because its a good one.

Exercise bicycles will be next.  You pedal to generate the electricity and you are hot and sweaty anyway so you won't notice the tiny bit of extra heat.  And then sofa seats.  Every time you fart it will jiggle little magnets back and forth, generating a tiny electric charge that is then used to mine and heat up your seat at the same time.  Not useful by itself, but can you imagine the collective power of the world's gas?
317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency and bitcointalk threads summed up in one thread. on: June 04, 2015, 08:54:31 AM

 Kiss

Lol this is the best one yet!
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is like... on: June 04, 2015, 08:52:26 AM
I was totally taken by surprise by that video.  Iwas expecting some informational talk or lecture.  And what I got instead was just.. wtf.  Great video BTW I really enjoyed it.  I have to agree with you, there is plenty of room for improvement.  But even so, it is in pretty good shape considering all things.
319  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk effect on Bitcoin ? on: June 04, 2015, 08:49:39 AM
Really?  Is this a serious question?  These forums are awesome, I really like it here.  But bitcoin has grown so much.  There are numerous news sites, blogs, forums, etc out there now.  If this one went down it would make zero difference in the grand scheme of things.
320  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial Firms Investigating Bitcoin "Tech" on: June 04, 2015, 08:44:42 AM
I don't feel threatened but I hope that we have some more time to accumulate before it all goes nuts again.  You never can tell but with all of these news stories bitoin is slowly becoming a should name.  With the international nature of our economy it is only a matter of time until it get s wider adoption.
