301  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: July 15, 2014, 08:33:39 PM
The problem I ran into when I first tried to connect the antminer was that the device's IP address was actually different from what was printed on the label next to the fan.  Instead of being 192.168.1.99, it was actually 192.168.2.99.  I discovered this by using a program someone on here recommended called Wireshark.  http://www.wireshark.org/

Interestingly, the payout for this week was slightly higher than last week's.  That is the first time that I have noticed this happen since I began following them, they always generally give out successively smaller payouts.

Just a temporary glitch maybe.  It is working right now for me.

While not totally failing yet, it certainly has backfired for Canadian PB Miner customers who are presently not technically allowed to buy contracts until this company makes it clear that any grey area it is operating in is in accordance with Canadian law.

I bought into this a few days ago. I only bought 100 GH/s because I have this feeling that I wont really make anything on it. In fact I would be happy to see just break even in 5yrs. It all depends on the difficulty not increasing drastically I think. This term it doesn't look like it is predicted to be a big increase so I shouldn't see a big drop per day. If we get a few terms with bog increases I may not have any chance to ever make it back. Either way it will be an experience that I will learn from one way or the other.

Based on my experience, the payout from PBmining compares very favorably to the amount that I've mined so far using my own equipment at home.  I began mining in early March of this year with a couple 22 GH technobit miners.  Gradually worked my way up to 6 of those (120+GH).  Now have a total of over 300 GH with an S1 miner.  To give you an idea of the effect of the change in difficulty, my 24 hour earnings on the BTC Guild dashboard just reached over 0.01 BTC for the first time since mid-May, back when I had significantly less hash power.   In April I started buying contracts at PBmining with some of the bitcoin I was earning from mining, and stopped at 150 GH.

Total payout from home mining through BTC Guild so far (early March to present):  0.74 BTC

Total payout from PB MIning so far (early April to present):   0.487 BTC

I think that almost all of us who got involved with mining bitcoin did not see the results we had initially been hoping for.  On the other hand, a part of the lesson is that mining bitcoins represents only a very small part of the opportunities that cryptocurrency will open up for those who have gotten involved.   Beyond simply hoping to reach ROI, you can appreciate the benefit of getting at least some baseline income of bitcoin which you can then use.  Just enough to start making some small purchases.  Thereby you begin participating in this new economy, and start thinking in new ways.

While Canada keeps us in limbo, I'm going to continue spending 100% of my bitcoins in the United States.
307  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What hardware would be best for a hobbyist? on: July 08, 2014, 10:51:38 PM
I just picked up an Antminer S1 on ebay for the cheapest price I could find (including shipping).  At least for a short time, it will give a little boost to my diminishing bitcoin earnings.  Also not expecting to make ROI, hopefully somewhere above 60% ROI for the total amount I have invested in various bitcoin mining solutions.   You might also consider something more efficient like the Rockminer R3 Box 450-500G, although that pushes you up to about $600.

308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmaintech S1 Miner & Power Supply Fire (Nearly) on: July 08, 2014, 10:35:20 PM
The page for the Antminer S3 also states that you connect 2 PCI-E connectors for normal operation, or 4 PCI-E for overclocking.   It also recommends against connecting more than one PSU to a single Antminer.
309  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmaintech S1 Miner & Power Supply Fire (Nearly) on: July 08, 2014, 09:56:01 PM
I've got an Antminer S3 miner i wanna put on the same power supply if thats possible??

In an earlier post you stated that you are not an electrician.  That doesn't mean that you can't start trying to think like one.  That means trying to err on the side of "more than adequate" power supply for each of your miners.  I wouldn't be thinking: "What is the maximum number of things I can get away with connecting to this PSU, including my brand new Antminer S3".  I would be more like: "I will be using 1 good quality PSU to power my new Antminer S3, and that PSU will not be supplying power to anything else."
310  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmaintech S1 Miner & Power Supply Fire (Nearly) on: July 08, 2014, 08:19:37 PM
Just a heads up regarding the technobit miners.  Under no circumstances should you connect more than one miner to one line, even though each line on a PSU has multiple plugs.  The same logic would apply to the Antminer S1.  The seller of the technobit miners advised us not to try to cut power from CPU power connector.
If you connect two miners to one line, then that cable will feel twice as hot when you touch it, compared to having just one miner connected.  I have an auxillary fan to the side of my technobit miners to add extra cooling to the power connectors, the 4 pin molar plugs are the ones most prone to melting from overheating.

Pbmining.com commenced operations in January 2014, and has additionally been selling Bitcoin mining hardware since spring 2013.

Location and legal info:

Originally based in Saskatchewan, Canada, most operations have now been moved to Iceland. PB Mining further tells us that while registration details were available on the website initially, these were later removed for reasons of heightened security.

Canada recently introduced laws which required Bitcoin entities to register with financial regulator FINTRAC or face being ‘de-banked’. However, operations for PB Mining remain unaffected at present.

A significant source of traffic for the service is generated from the Mexican market.

Security:

PB Mining does not offer two-factor authentication, and it does not permit certain special characters often used to make secure passwords. However, as its mining rewards are automatically sent to an external address, funds are not stored on the site and therefore cannot be stolen.

Mining contracts are fully insured against loss should any of the mining equipment malfunction under any circumstances.

I have to say my payments have been getting smaller each week.  From .02 a month ago to .013 this week. Sad

To help give you some perspective, I remember back in early February signing up for a cloud hashing contract from a guy who had miner that ran at around 500 GH. He stated to me that this miner was generating 8 payouts per day at that particular moment in time = 0.08 BTC.   Fast forward 4 short months and that same miner would generate 0.1 BTC per week.  So we've almost reached the point where a given hashrate from 4 months ago will now generate only 1/10th the amount of bitcoin.  The conclusion is that the average person who dables in mining cannot keep up with the increases in difficulty.

I just remembered the following news story from a short time ago, also regarding a bitcoin related business in Saskatchewan.

From PB Mining's buy a contract page:

"As of June 21, 2014 we are no longer allowing orders to be purchased by residents of Canada. By continuing with this purchase, you are agreeing that you are not a Canadian citizen. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will allow Canadians to purchase contracts again once we are get a clearer understanding of the regulatory requirements that need to be met."
315  Bitcoin / Legal / The future of PB Mining may be in doubt on: July 06, 2014, 09:38:52 AM
Today I noticed that PB Mining has put a statement on their contract purchase page stating that they are no longer selling contracts to Canadian residents.  Keep in mind that PB Mining also states on their website that they are a "trusted business in Saskatchewan Canada".  I would then like to ask a question of PB Mining users: "How do you feel about the fact that PB Mining might now not be able to do business in it's home country?"
By continuing to buy contracts through their site you must agree that you are not a Canadian resident, until they are able to clear up the legal issues of selling mining contracts to Canadian residents.

Enjoy it for a bit, but it is time for S3 and beyond, really...

I purchased some shares on the upcoming KNC Titan, and have some cloud hashing going on at PB Mining and a couple other sites.  Still, whatever you do it is hard to keep up with the constant rise in difficulty.  What seems good today will be collecting satoshi dust tomorrow.
317  Local / Débutants / Re: Débutant - Question Multibit on: July 04, 2014, 03:00:32 PM
Bonjour Loleyy,

318  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: July 04, 2014, 02:14:25 PM

I am happy to say that I finally have my Antminer S1 up and mining on the BTC Guild pool.  I managed to get it pointed at the router by connecting it to a netgear WNCE2001 wireless adapter.  I am now able to access the Antminer configuration page through my home network.  I am using a Corsair CX750M PSU (750 watts).  In addition to the Antminer S1, I have 3 technobit hex16a2 miners connected.  Now drawing a total of  about 675 watts according to the wattage meter.  Do you think I am pushing it?  I could bring in another power supply to lighten the load if needed.

Another quirk I noticed was that despite the fact that 192.168.1.99 is written on the miner, I accessed the page using 192.168.2.99.  That also includes after I hit the factory reset button.  In any case, it is now online and performing it's intended purpose.  Thanks for all your help.
319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: July 04, 2014, 03:05:06 AM
I decided to just change my router to 192.168.2.1 instead.  I entered my BTC Guild mining pool information, but I am stuck at trying to figure out how to get a network connection.  So far no mining is taking place, just lots of beeping.  I have a netgear wireless access adapter in case I can't get wireless to cooperate.
320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: July 04, 2014, 02:33:33 AM
If you follow the guide it should get you where you want to be as long as you have pool information to give it.

My initial impression is that it is about the most difficult piece of equipment I have ever dealt with.  I am trying to change the IP address of the miner back to what was originally printed on the miner: 192.168.1.99, something I will need to do since my router's address is 192.168.1.1
Then it says "Waiting for changes to apply" indefinitely.  Then when I tried to log on with 192.168.1.1, it doesn't work.  So I press the reset button and am back to square one.
