301  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: SmartCoin - A simple, robust mining system for Linux. Any interest? on: June 14, 2011, 11:37:35 AM
I pledge a 1 BTC donation upon successfully being able to run this on my Arch Linux box (would be happy to test it for you).
302  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Please test: New Experimental Pool "Eligius" (~250 GH/s) on: June 14, 2011, 11:30:21 AM
You won't have lost anything, Luke already said that he's going to retro-actively apply the MaxPPS system once the full implementation comes in.

304  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: WEBSITE OWNERS: NEW BROWSER MINER! HAVE YOUR WEBSITE GENERATE BITCOINS FOR YOU! on: June 13, 2011, 08:59:15 AM
Can we have:

- Either the ability to reduce the payout threshold OR;
- The ability to use this on other mining pools?

Also, does the BitJAM pool charge any fees?
305  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Bitcoin Virtual Currency Exchange (Eve ISK, Linden Dollars, MTGO Tix) on: June 12, 2011, 10:35:50 PM
Welcome to the Bitcoin Virtual Currency Exchange

I realise that I've already created a number of threads for trading to individual currencies, so I'm trying to combine all of those threads into a single place of trade.

Here, I will buy and sell several virtual currencies for Bitcoin, meaning that you'll always have access to the currencies you want, when you want them. Right now, I'm dealing in the following virtual currencies:

  • Eve Online ISK
  • Second Life Lindens
  • Namecoin

The prices are entirely based on the current USD to BTC exchange rate of $17.50 to 1.0, and they will fluctuate based on that exchange rate, as well as the varying values of virtual currencies.

Currently Buying Currencies At:
Linden Dollars - 5,300 L$ for 1 BTC
Eve Online ISK - 900 million for 1 BTC
Namecoin - 26 for 1 BTC

Currently Selling Currencies At:
Linden Dollars - 4,500 L$ for 1 BTC
Eve Online ISK - 650 million for 1 BTC (1 PLEX for 0.72 BTC)
Namecoin - 16 for 1 BTC

If, for a specific currency, there is a large gap between my buy rate and my sell rate, it is because right now I either have a lot of the currency in stock and as such don't need much more, or it sells very slowly.

My OTC web of trust ratings can be found in my signature.
306  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: [Avail: >10B] Eve Online ISK / PLEX - ~1.85 BTC per BILLION on: June 12, 2011, 09:55:56 PM
I do, price updated to reflect the market.
307  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I want to try and buy something, but I have like 0.02 btc on: June 12, 2011, 07:29:38 AM
If you're only getting 5mh from a 460 your settings are wrong.

Having said that, nvidia sucks for mining. Advice is sell it and buy an ati.
308  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoins 4 Bus Fares on: June 12, 2011, 07:24:56 AM
Some pretty good schemes here in Europe.

Rome, London, Amsterdam etc.
309  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miner's Union? on: June 12, 2011, 07:18:35 AM
Although I have little love for unions, this actually seems like a reasonable step towards price stability.
310  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mt. Gox drops to $10 -- reconsidering your mining rigs? on: June 12, 2011, 07:07:58 AM
Nope, did my spreadsheets at 10 anyway.
311  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the rapid decline in price? on: June 12, 2011, 04:47:41 AM
You must have understood that you stood to lose money on your investment.

I've just bought mining rigs which were designed to make 40 bucks a day and they're now making 13, that's how investments pan out sometimes.

Hopefully it'll go back up and its just because people were selling too much.
312  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Deciding on - Selling XFX 5870 and Sapphire 5850 on: June 11, 2011, 11:31:50 AM
Might be interested! How's 8 BTC shipped sound for the 5870?

Kinda bad.. 5850 is being negotiated for $200+shipping equivalent in BTC..

This cracks me up.  It's used! Sell it for BELOW what you bought it for.

No, sell it for whatever the best price you can get for it is. Why would you sell something for less than you can get? If it's worth $200 to someone (and it is, it pays for itself in a fortnight) then let them pay it.
313  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Selling 2x XFX HD Radeon 5870 & 1x XFX 750W Black Edition PSU on: June 10, 2011, 08:58:25 PM
Obsolete.
314  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] EcoCoin - Offset your carbon footprint! Profits buy trees and rainforest on: June 10, 2011, 08:50:54 AM
So you'd need to be genning about 140 btc/month to get fees to pay off the server (2.8 btc = ~$80).

That's about 82GH at my best estimate, seems like a reasonable endeavour. Anything beyond the first 82GH should be donating to charity until the next difficulty increase.
315  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Join a pool or mine by myself? on: June 10, 2011, 08:26:33 AM
Join a pool.
316  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] EcoCoin - Offset your carbon footprint! Profits buy trees and rainforest on: June 10, 2011, 08:24:27 AM
Can we get some stats on profit and how much is being donated where, what it's doing for the environment etc. Also, can you explain running costs so that we know how much fees are going to have to cover to make 'profits'?

I'm a huge sceptic of anthropogenic global warming theory, but I am an environmentalist (the oldschool type: I like to walk in the countryside, I like clean air etc) and would be happy to support this pool if the numbers are right.

Foggyb, 'anyone can go plant a tree' avoids the objective. The more we cut down rainforests, the harder it's going to be to maintain a healthy earth and keep oxygen production sustainable. You, or me, planting one tree, isn't going to offset the massive amount of deforestation going on right now. I'm not saying don't plant a tree, but it doesn't undo the amount of deforestation done in your name.

TheYogi, don't just try to sell this from a carbon point of view because AGW is a hot debate and a lot of people will avoid the pool and all the good it's doing from a point of view of it being one side or the other of the AGW debate. Deforestation is an issue for all of us, not just AGW-believers.

I could write a 1,000 word piece on the Gold Coast if you wish, it was a British colony in Africa in the 1800s & 1900s which traded in gold & diamonds amongst other luxury goods. Let me know.
319  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buying Virtual Currency (MTGO Tickets, Second Life Lindens) on: June 10, 2011, 01:43:45 AM
No one else seems to be trading Linden to BTC so not sure what a better rate is. Obviously going through Linden for a USD buyer would be expensive, but for people who have Lindens (i.e. deal in SL) it's pretty cheap compared to the normal process to get BTC out of it:

Take 9010 Lindens and cash them out...
Wait 4-5 days for Linden Labs to process payout, pay $1 + a fee = $33.53
Buy liberty reserve with paypal (pay $0.30 + 3%) = $32.56
Buy mtgox with liberty reserve (pay 1%) = $32.23

At this point your mtgox account has $32.23 in it after 5+ days, at which point your Bitcoin might be worth $40 or more (and you still have to pay a fee to buy it). I doubt USD buyers will see SL as the way in, anyway, because Linden Labs has that absurd rule that prevents you buying more than $30 worth on a new account.

This service is primarily to allow Second Life players to cash out in Bitcoins effort-free.
320  Economy / Marketplace / Buying Virtual Currency (MTGO Tickets, Second Life Lindens) on: June 10, 2011, 01:34:31 AM
As the title says, I'm currently buying other virtual currency for Bitcoin.

Current buy rates are:
1 BTC = 34 MTGO
1 BTC = 9010 L$

These assume a BTC to USD ratio of 1 BTC = 29 USD and are subject to the normal market fluctuations.

Slightly better deals may be available if you want 5 BTC or more.
