301  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: April 01, 2024, 08:52:08 PM
Xabi is taking risk by staying in Leverkusen as they might not be able to repeat this success next season. With limited player resource, they will have big troubles by defending their Bundesliga title while discover Champions League. It will put Leverkusen under pressure of using their player resource very wisely to maintain good performances in Bundesliga but still don't affect their discovery about their own ability in the Champions League.

I think staying at Leverkusen is the lowest risk of them all. Going to any of the teams coming for him would be a very big risk. Can you imagine the pressure that'll come with coaching a club like Madrid or Bayern or even Liverpool?
It's a very good decision to stay at Leverkusen for at least one more season. He just won them the league and took them to the Champions League, it won't be proper to not play the Champions League with them before going to a bigger club.

There is less pressure at Leverkusen. He has won them the league, if they finish next season without a trophy it wouldn't mean anything for a club like Leverkusen. What matters is he brought them to the Champions League and they will compete for it. Who knows, they might surprise us again.
Winning the league will open up doors for better recruitment, so they'll be able to recruit better players. Also, with Alonso staying, the star players of Leverkusen won't leave. When a team has a good project like Leverkusen does, convincing players to sign for them won't be a problem.
302  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: April 01, 2024, 01:36:01 PM
For now we don't know what Barcelona's plan for the following season because we know they have financial problems that can hamper their plans. On the other hand, Real Madrid is getting closer to Mbappe rumors and if this rumor is true, there is no way for Barcelona to compete with Real Madrid this means that Barcelona is really in a complicated situation, what do you think will be done by Barcelona? Some people say Barcelona can rely on local talents from the academy but I think it takes a long time it even takes 3-4 seasons to increase it and there is no guarantee that it will work, another solution Barcelona must immediately get another loan if possible and release Lewandowski of course.

Barcelona just need a few signings and they're good. The team is not as bad as people make it seem. Their financial crisis is also not as bad as the media makes it seem. Look at two seasons ago when media houses were saying they'd go into bankruptcy, they signed Lewandoski, Raphinha, and Kounde. Last season they got Gundugan, Felix, and Cancelo.
If you've been following La Liga as a neutral fan, you'll see that Madrid is above Barcelona not because Madrid played exceptionally better, but because Barcelona has suffered injuries at very crucial moments and they don't have quality squad depth to fill in for injured players.

The most important thing Barcelona can do is hire the right manager if Xavi is truly leaving. To me, that's the single most important thing. They just need a DM, a RW, and a LW that can dribble, fast, score goals, and create chances then they're good.
It doesn't matter if Madrid signs Mbappe, that's what Madrid does, that's who they are, they always sign the best players in the world yet Barca still competes with them. Makes these 3 signings and gets a good manager then Barcelona will be ready for next season.
303  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Becomes of Gambling if Sport book is taken away. on: April 01, 2024, 01:21:06 PM
Is it just football or all forms of sports as a whole? If it's just football, gamblers will keep gambling on other sports. A lot of people including me don't bet on football alone. Football, Basketball, hockey, and tennis are other sports I bet on. Some people gamble on more.

If all forms of sports gambling are banned entirely, surely casino companies will take a hit because a lot of people gamble on sports, but that could mean most of these people will start gambling in other areas.
The gambling industry will be fine without sports betting. Gambling activities may reduce but with time, the numbers will come back.
People want to gamble. It doesn't matter if it's for fun, to make money, to try their luck, or to waste time, what matters is that they'll look for ways to gamble.
304  Economy / Economics / Re: The benefits of risk taking on: April 01, 2024, 08:42:25 AM
Well, all those great entrepreneurs and business people took calculated risks. Taking risks is good but not every risk is worth it. You can't just take a risk because it's a risk, and taking risks is what great men do, you have to look at the reward of that risk and ask yourself "Is it worth it?"
I like it when people draw inspiration from great people, but you also have to understand both situations, your situation and their situation. The fact that great man A took a risk so daring and it paid off doesn't mean it will pay off for you if you take the same risk.

The bottom line of all these talks is, "take calculated risks". A risk that wouldn't wreck if it fails, a risk that's worth the reward. People always talk about those who profited from their risk, but nobody mentions those who lost from their risk and I believe those who lost are way more than those who profited if not we would have had more successful people.
305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is that one reason that motivates you to invest in bitcoin even at ATH ? on: April 01, 2024, 08:16:00 AM
I think it's different for someone who understands Bitcoin and someone who doesn't. Some people have already said FOMO is the reason people are ready to invest in Bitcoin even at an ATH, but people who understand Bitcoin won't do that because of FOMO.
Personally, I feel it's because they know that Bitcoin can always get higher, especially during a bill run.
If I get money now and I don't have any particular reason for it, I will buy Bitcoin even though Bitcoin is going between 69k - $71k recently. I'll be bold enough to do so because I speculate that the price would be higher. If it makes a 30% increase, that's a 30% increase in my investment which is a lot.

For people who don't understand Bitcoin, I can agree it's FOMO. They see the new trend and a lot of people making money from it so they just invest so they don't miss out.

308  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: March 30, 2024, 06:04:59 PM
We are talking about the possibility of the Premier League to have an extra quota for the Champions League next season. But still the interesting part is the total number of CL titles achieve by English teams is like the same as Real Madrid's winning number.  Grin

The premier league is not as tough as many of the fans believe it to be. Before Pep and Klopp, the premier league was filled with teams of the same level and that's why it looked very competitive.
When Pep came he exposed the league a lot. Many people may argue with this but the fact is the fact. This is Pep's 8th season in the EPL and in those 7 years his team has won the EPL 5 times, losing it only twice and he still has a chance of winning it again this season.
We can all see that the moment a manager knows what he's doing he owns the league. The premier league is not all that, it just has a better PR. I can agree that it's a better-managed league too and they have more money, that's why you can see teams going from teams like Milan to Nottingham Forest, or from Sevilla to Newcastle.

The thing is most people that watch the EPL don't watch other leagues, so they run with the narrative that the EPL is the best league in the world. The two biggest teams in the world are Real Madrid and Barcelona, not English teams.

The EPL is known for it's "Big 6", but is there really a Big 6 though?
Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea.
What is big about Tottenham and Arsenal? If these clubs were in any league that was not the EPL would they be rated as big clubs?
309  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Stop paying money to learn trading when you can learn it yourself on: March 29, 2024, 10:43:23 PM
To me, paying somebody to teach you trading is not a bad thing, the issue comes with paying scams. People who promise you to be experts in trading after 2 weeks or 2 months.
I see a lot of people going about scamming people in the name of teaching them trading. People should be able to identify when something or somebody is not genuine

Personally, I prefer a paid one. Not because you can't learn for free, but if you pay to the to a genuine teacher, they'll lead you in what YouTube channels to follow, and what podcast to take seriously, and they can also be your mentor. As I always say, trading is a learning-on-the-job type of skill. When you've learned the basics and have understood everything, a big load of the job rests on you. You get better with experience and with your zeal to learn and get better.

If you want to learn trading, I wouldn't advise anybody not to pay. My only advice would be to make sure you pay the right person because there are a lot of scams out there.
310  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Discovering your potentials on: March 29, 2024, 03:58:15 PM
It all depends on the desire of one person to reach the objective he has pointed to himself, so discipline and persistence are the key things one should have today, the rest can be easily found on the internet as explained above.

I agree with this. Desire plays a very vital role in achieving in life.
The drive to keep going. If that drive is always there then you'll never stop and as long as you don't stop, there's a chance to always go forward. There's no limit to what one can achieve.

When you've achieved a certain level and there's no more drive anymore you might stop and this can limit you. I've seen many people in different fields who just felt comfortable after they've gotten to a certain level when they had the potential to achieve more. It's not a bad thing though, but I'm just pointing out who desires and drives pushes us.

When you want something and you reach for it, without allowing anything to stop you, you'll most likely get it if you do it right. I believe the world is easier today than it was 50-100 years ago. The internet has made things very easy. I can get a degree today without ever stepping on a university campus. I can learn a skill without leaving my house.
The problem is people do not take advantage of the world today as much as they should. There are hundreds of ways to achieve our goals and we have to first start by learning. Invest that time and money into learning something. Be very good at it. Solve a problem, then you'll begin to make money from it, and never forget to keep learning. The moment you stop learning you stop growing.
311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: March 29, 2024, 05:30:47 AM
Fair enough because your judgement is based on the past 10 years, but come to think of it, how many trophies has Liverpool been able to achieve as to measure with Barcelona? Even in the past 10 years, FC Barcelona has won more trophies than Liverpool so I think you didn't make your research correctly.

Why do you constantly miss the point? I'm not saying Liverpool has been better, I'm just trying to show that currently a lot of football fans, especially English football fans believe Liverpool to be more successful. And I am saying that this view exists simply because of the standards of Barcelona. If any other club has achieved what Barcelona has achieved in the last decade, that club would be rated so highly, but because it's Barcelona, it seems normal.
I did a poll on Twitter where the majority of the voters were Barcelona fans and 28% of those people said Liverpool was more successful in the last 10 years. There's something called "recency bias" and also the Premier League PR, something most Spanish teams do not have. This is what makes Arsenal look like a greater team than Sevilla, but when you look at their history and achievements, Sevilla is a greater team than Arsenal.

I'm the past 10 years Barcelona has won 16 trophies, including 1 UCL, 5 leagues, and 5 Copa del Rey. While Liverpool have won just 7 in 10 years with just 1 league title and 1 UCL.
I never said Liverpool was the more successful team, I said Liverpool is perceived as the more successful team because of the standards of Barcelona and the premier league PR.
312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: March 28, 2024, 09:41:56 PM
No it doesn't depend on Luis Enrique only. There is a reason why teams from leagues like Portugal, Eredivisie, Ligue 1 and others almost have no chance to win the Champions League. The main reason is that these teams are not good enough and if they are in regards to the players they have and the quality they potentially can bring onto the pitch, then the teams don't get challenged enough throughout the year and are playing against far inferior teams all the time. But then out of a sudden the next opponent is called Real Madrid or Manchester City and that is when they haven't developed the tools during the season to deal with the problems that these world class teams can create for any opponent. PSG won't win the Champions League and I doubt that Enrique should be blamed for it. It's never the best idea to buy a club in a weak league, invest billions and then hope to win the Champions League.

I get your point, but PSG is among the  elite teams right now. They have the players and they have what it takes to win the Champions League. They've just been run very poorly. It has nothing to do with the league they play in. A good team is a good team anywhere, the league doesn't matter. If they are very well managed they should be able to win the Champions League.
Manchester City is almost the same thing with PSG, the only difference is Man City won the Champions League last season which is about 6 seasons after signing Pep Guardiola.
My point is, that it takes time.

It's worse for PSG because they don't know how to manage the club. They don't know how to sign players. The fans decide a lot of the players they sign. When they had Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe, they had a very average midfield. Good management should know that the team needs to be balanced.
A well-managed team would have let Mbappe go last season instead of giving him such a huge contract. They keep building their team around one man and it has never worked.
They need to have a balanced team where the team depends on the team to succeed. One man can't carry a team except you're Lionel Messi. Even Messi needs support, to be honest.
313  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: March 28, 2024, 04:05:06 PM
I like the way you analyze the whole issues in your comments but I will also like to know the other two clubs alongside Barcelona as the biggest clubs and the basis in which you rate them. Moreover, I don't think any sane and experienced football fan would rate Liverpool ahead of Barcelona despite the recent challenges they are experiencing. Actually, Barcelona performance has depreciate but not to the extent people are assuming it.

The biggest clubs in the world currently are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
A lot of things are it into consideration, it's not just about what they are. Achieved in recent years but they are how they've dominated the sport for a specific period.
The two undisputed top teams in the world are Real Madrid and Barcelona. Their option is open for discussion. It could be between Bayern Munich and Manchester City, but I'd pick Bayern Munich.

I see no reason why Liverpool should be rated above Barcelona like I don't understand the aspects of the ratings because if we check from league titles, Barcelona have won a record of 27 la Liga trophies and 5 champions league cup to their name whereas Liverpool have won 19 premier league trophy and 6 Champions league victory so with this statistics, you can differentiate between the both clubs and however.

The question is not who is a bigger club overall, Barcelona is obviously a bigger club. The question is which club has been more successful in the past 10 years. I know the more successful club is Barcelona, but you'd be surprised at the amount of fans that'll pick Liverpool.
This is because of hat Barcelona has done in the past 10 years looks like child's play compared to what they used to be but if any other team achieved that, the club would be applauded, that's why I used Liverpool.
314  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: March 28, 2024, 11:24:30 AM
We usually consider the semi-final and final matches to be more competitive but this season the quarter-final might be the most competitive as the quarter-final contenders are Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Why do you assume or believe the quarter-finals will be more competitive than the semi-finals? Don't you know that the Champions League gets more important as it goes? So if Man City and Madrid don't play each other in the semis then it won't be competitive? I don't think so.

Anybody who qualifies between Man City and Madrid would play anybody who qualifies between Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Anyhow this turns out it would be a very competitive semis for either of them. Imagine thinking a tie between Bayern and Madrid won't be interesting. Or saying Arsenal Man City won't be competitive?
First, we'll enjoy the quarter-final, and then later we will enjoy the semi-final and the finals.
I remember when people were saying the Champions League fell off during the group stage and round of 16 of the tournament. Very funny.
315  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: March 28, 2024, 04:39:49 AM
I would guess that Barcelona having trouble right now is overestimated. First of all, last year they were the champions, they are literally the latest champions of the league, saying that they are not doing well is unreasonable, secondly they have one year right now where they are not the champions if they lose this season (when they lose it) so it is not a big deal.

I think it boils down to the standard of the club. Many football fans will not admit it but Barcelona is among the top 3 biggest clubs in the world. When a club as big as Barcelona has a little failure, it would be viewed as a very huge one meanwhile this is what other teams get a pass for.

Let's put what I mean practically. If you ask any football fan to choose which club has been more successful in the past 10 years between Liverpool and Barcelona, most of them will say it's Liverpool, but are they?
Liverpool has the Champions League in the last 10 years, and Barcelona also has won 1 Champions League in the past 10 years.
In total, Barcelona has won 16 trophies since 2015 while Liverpool has won 7 but because of the standards of Barcelona, this is considered poor. It's the price for greatness, I understand.

On top of that, they are a team with a lot of financial trouble, so they managed to do the right thing and figured out a lot of great young players, they have 6-7 great young players that can play amazingly and I believe that they should be doing fine. I think the best thing to do in this case would be just considering them lucky and they can be doing better next season with what they have.

Barcelona under the management of Laporta is very well managed. He may have made a few mistakes, which is normal, but overall, the club is heading in the right direction. Look at the signing they make, Lewandoski, Cancelo, Kounde, Gundogan, Felix, Christensen, Raphinha. Also, look at their youngsters. They already have a 9 to replace the aging Lewandoski even though he's still firing. They have a good squad. All they need to do now is get a very good coach if Xavi is truly leaving and they'll be good.

Off the pitch too they've been making very good moves. The renovation of the camp now is one of them. Getting better sponsors like Spotify too is one of them. They're also trying to balance the books and despite the restrictions from La Liga, they're doing well.
Now they're in the quarter-finals of the UCL for the first time in a while and they have a pretty good shot at making the final.

I agree that the problems of Barcelona are overestimated, but it's simply because of how big the club is. This is a club that used to dominate. A club that has the biggest talents in the world. A club like that doesn't win the Champions League in 5 years and it would be a selling headline for every newspaper.
316  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 28, 2024, 04:07:10 AM
As things stand, I would predict Arsenal to emerge victorious in that match unless Manchester City can prove otherwise, which I don't foresee happening, especially given their current midfield vulnerabilities. It's up to Arsenal to identify and exploit these weaknesses effectively.

Sometimes I wonder how you people can constantly underrate Manchester City so much despite how much they've proven themselves. If you said this when players like De Bruyne and Silva were injured I'd understand, but right now? Nah
Manchester City has the edge over Arsenal in this game. I'll say it's a 60/40 in favor of Manchester City.
I find it very hard to see Arsenal winning Manchester City home and away.
In the first leg, Manchester City had many injuries and in that time they were still struggling to find their form, but currently, Manchester City has become better and they have De Bruyne back and firing. And we know Arsenal are his favourites.

I've always said I don't think Arsenal will win the league this season, they had their chance last season and I supported them to win it but they blew it. This season the league is between Liverpool and Manchester City. All Liverpool has to do to win this league this season is to win all their remaining 10 league matches. As easy as that may sound, it's very difficult.

What am trying to say is if it would be possible for a pop up or notice with link show in the homescreen directing the newbie to a thread they can introduce themselves and maybe get some ideas

I don't think that will prevent newbies from creating unnecessary introductory threads because that is the first point on the pinned post "Newbies, read before posting". If they read the pinned post they wouldn't need to create a thread that contains only stuff like "I'm new here, hope I'm welcome"

Introductory threads are not illegal on the forum, but it has to be meaningful, it's unnecessary to me because it's an anonymous site, nobody knows who you are or even cares. Once you keep posting relevant stuff and stay active on the forum you'll announce yourself to the forum.

That being said, I think the "beginners and help" board is living up to its name pretty well. You can't use a few irrelevant topics to judge the whole board. There are so many helpful threads on that board as the name implies. As a newbie, it helped me a lot, and even now that I'm relatively old on the forum, it still helps.
That's a space where you can ask anything related to Bitcoin and the forum without feeling dumb.
There will always be unnecessary topics every now and then but there are still many more useful ones that make the board still very relevant.
318  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: Worldcup qualifiers - CAF. on: March 27, 2024, 02:58:21 PM
With how the Super Eagles played yesterday I don't know if I should say they played very well against the Black Stars of Ghana or not because this is the period where the interim coach wishes to be the head coach and is also where the Nigeria football Bodies uses just a game and a good performance to judge if the caretaker coach should be appointed or not.

I think Nigeria needs to give their next coach time. I believe it's more difficult to manage a national team than a football club because with a football club, the coach has all the time with these players but the national team coach only gets a week every two months or thereabouts and that's never enough. He needs more time with his team. If after some time there are no notable changes then he can be fired.
This is like a trial period for the Nigerian coach who has overseen only two games, winning one and losing one. I feel he should be given time.

I believe so much in hiring local coaches. A former legend is also a bonus. He knows the team, he understands the people and pressure. This doesn't mean he'll definitely succeed but it gives him an added advantage.
If Nigeria can get a good coach and trust him by giving him time, he'll succeed because Nigeria is not short of good players. They have the players, what they do not have is the management. Proper management can turn that team into a fearsome side in Africa. They have all it takes to be that team.

It's bitcoin, it'll definitely go back up, so instead of selling at a loss, I'll leave my Bitcoin because I know it will rise again no matter how long it takes. I know it's easier said than done, but it's not the first time bitcoin has dipped after I made an investment and I've been with bitcoin long enough to know it always recovers.

If I had money at the time, money not set out for anything, I think I'd most likely buy Bitcoin at a cheaper price too. That's an opportunity for me to buy Bitcoin at a cheap price and an opportunity to make more profit when it pumps.
The dipping of bitcoin price is always an opportunity for someone, that person can as well be me since my investment is deprecating too.

By the way, I think this topic should be in Bitcoin discussion.
320  Economy / Economics / Re: Everything is over priced but people keep spending on: March 27, 2024, 02:38:05 PM
That's because people don't have a choice. People are still going to eat, live in houses, use phones, and every other thing. No matter how expensive things get, people would still buy them. Life will only become harder for them. They don't buy those things without complaining, they complain, but at the end of the day, they can't do anything about it.
Inflation is at an all-time high in many countries, things are so freaking expensive and currency is losing value rapidly. It's not looking good.

Now people have to be very good economists. Learn to forgo things that are not necessary and learn to know which problem to solve first and which to solve next.
I also believe people can still save and invest. People who earn relatively well can still save up something. I know there are those who make barely enough to take care of their family, but there are those who make more than enough, but the money never seems to be enough because of poor management. If the money is managed properly, there could be something left to save.

With Bitcoin, it's easier to save and invest at the same time. If we squeeze a little out of our income into Bitcoin and leave it there, it may not turn us into a millionaire, but it would give us savings with a profit, if we're lucky it may be more than what the bank will give. The risk is greater but it's worth it.
