I just hope we never see a block like one I recall from sometime around October.  I think it was BitMinter's 18th block or somewhere in that range.  It took over 9 days and the CDF was 99.7% or 99.8%, if I recall correctly.  We only had ~30 GH/s at the time, though.

I doubt anybody cares, but I just have to correct myself now that I can see that far back in history.  It was BitMinter's 30th block on October 5th.  With a CDF of 97.5%, it took 9d 18h 19m.  I guess that's how it goes when the pool's hashing power is only ~31 GH/s.

Sonny allowed me to convert my rig box order to two mini-rigs.  That should work better for me since I can split the two into separate corporate data centers and avoid straining the A/C unit in just one data center.

As a side note, I plan to monitor my electricity usage and "pay back" my employer by using my personal credit card for an appropriate amount of IT purchases each month.

I wonder if adding 10% or 20% to the $.095/KWh would be sufficient for the extra A/C usage...

Well - that would imply the mini-rig is not a concept but a product you can order?!?

Lemme guess 10-12 weeks  Wink

Sonny said my two mini-rigs will ship end of June, which is the same time my rig box was supposed to ship.  So...More like 13-14 weeks.  Long time to have $30k out there, but I think it'll be worth it.

Just make the "smaller" one and sell two to the people who ordered the "original rigbox".

I would be OK with this for my pervious orders of the rig box.

I would also be happy with two Mini-Rigs instead of the one Rig Box I ordered.  Whatever BFL decides to do is fine with me.

I wonder if it's caused by the same issue I had when I swapped 5970s in a computer and lost a good chunk of my hashing power.  My last post in this thread points to the info that fixed my issue.

Good luck!

I paid yesterday for a rig box that I ordered from them.  Estimated shipping time frame is 15 weeks.  If BitMinter works with the singles, it will probably work with the rig box when I get it.   Smiley

I would never let girlfriend/wife interfere with my business investments, if i see something is going to bring X % ROI annually, all she'd need to know is that it's going to bring the bacon on table.
Lots of american men are pussies when it comes to their women.  The men bring in all the money yet still let their bitches tell them what to do with the money.  Can you believe that?

American women are spoiled cunts.

On another note, my wife knows all about the mining adventure and has approved ever since she saw the first $1k hit the bank account. She even put up with the house being 86 degrees when there was 5Gh running here.

on that same note, i was giving my wife a quick overview of bitcoin, and told her i was going to be investing in it.  she still had the glazed over look in her eyes from the bitcoin explanation, but she didn't miss a beat with the, "i trust you to do whatever it is you think you should do."
My experience was similar when I told my wife I thought we should borrow $30k for a rig box.  I look forward to the "bank account bloating" part that gigavps mentioned. :-D

An Apple II should suffice.

Wow, awesome site.  Thanks!

Has anybody tried a BFL single with the BitMinter client?  I have no idea if it's even possible, but figured I'd ask.

my girlfriend too is all about the blame game...3 weeks ago I spent 175$ for 2 5870's. 175 for the pair!

Max...did we really need to spend the money for that?

she would probably freak-the-fuck-out if she knew how much i plan on spending...

here is how to argue and win...

max you spent 175 on videocards?

erin, we need to include gas, they were 110 kilometers away, so add an extra 220 kilometers worth of gas...plus some food and cigarettes for the drive. So lets say I spent about 240$ in total.

WTF?

can you tell me where else I can invest 240$ and make about 1000$ in a year?

um no...

STFU then, get back in the kitchen!

just kidding, she would kick my ass if i said that...but how can you argue with this:

I can invest 240$ and make about 1000$ in a year

Yup, you can't get returns like that anywhere else.

Even further off topic, but you reminded me of a joke I heard today that made me chuckle.

Took out a loan and sent $30k to Sonny for my Rig Box today.  He estimates time to shipping at about 15 weeks.  I assume they could run into problems and it would be longer, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.  Regardless, it's a long time to wait, but I think I'll be happy with the purchase in the end.

I could make some sacrifices and afford to pay off the loan without income from bitcoins, but it'd sure be a repetitive kick in the nuts for a few years.

The only reason I feel ok taking this kind of risk is that my wife agreed to be supportive even though she finds it very scary.  If it turns into a disaster, she agreed to look at it as a joint decision and not play the blame game.
312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 13, 2012, 07:40:43 PM
I'm in for the first issue whenever it's available.  I don't care when, but I'm looking forward to it.
313  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Rig Box on: March 13, 2012, 04:24:56 AM
Well ... have BFL created a thread anywhere yet?
dont think so
I get the impression that they mostly see Bitcointalk as a place people go for entertainment purposes; not to do business.  I don't completely agree with that viewpoint, but I'd guess it's why they haven't participated here much.

So...Anybody have a rig box order in place?  It looks like a sweet machine, no?

(remember the first time you used an iPhone?)

Yeah, I do... I threw up a little in my mouth, but I was in public, so I had to swallow it.  It was gross.

Agreed.  I got a Droid4 last week, but I have to wait for a sim card to come from Verizon in the mail, so I've been using an iPhone 4S in the meantime.  I hate it so much...

Maybe a new graph would be useful though that shows luck per time instead of per block.
This graph at Pool-X (LiteCoin pool) is really nice.  I think you have to login to see it, but I think seeing it is worth making an account.
http://pool-x.eu/blocksAuth

In regard to functionality, it's actually pretty similar to the one at BitMinter, but I find it a lot easier to interpret.

Somebody told me a while back that the chart comes from http://www.highcharts.com
316  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is my 5970 dead? on: March 08, 2012, 12:09:54 AM
Depending on how strong your primary power supply is, it's possible that it's damaged from being pushed too hard.

I once mined with a 5850 with an old 330W PSU for about 10 hours before it failed.  The PC would kind of turn on (fans spinning), but nothing would happen.  I replaced the PSU and everything worked fine.

If you have a weaker video card available, give it a try, and use the secondary PSU to power the whole system.  If it works, you know the problem is either the 5970 or the PSU (more likely?).
317  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [120 GH/s] BitMinter.com [Zero Fee, Hopper Safe, Merged Mining,Tx Fees Paid Out] on: March 07, 2012, 12:59:17 AM
Did your combination of 5870s ever work in a stable fashion with this board?
I had it running stable for a while, but I then bumper the clocks up to 960/170, from 950/170.

That's the part that has me scratching my head.  Why'd it work stable until the overclock was increased and then fail to regain stability after returning to the original stable clocks?

Remove one or two cards, and see if it runs stable. If it does, you are going to need powered risers.

I would also be interested in knowing the results of trying it with only two or three cards.

Has anybody on this board ordered a rig box?  I thought I saw somebody say something about a deposit, but I can't seem to find that particular post.  I'd be a lot more comfortable with a deposit.

I'm thinking about ordering one, but it's scary that there's the possibility that I'd give them $30k and then find out in four months that it was a long con the whole time and there's nothing I can do.  *shrug*

320  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Random suggestion on: March 04, 2012, 07:01:14 AM
I know you have the box to check to get notified about the latest blocks with a sound effect, but I would find it handy to be notified in other ways.....

Like being able to get an email or txt msg when BTC/NMC (able to choose as I dont care as much about NMC notifications) block is found, giving a summary of my stats, for that block or the last N shifts or something like (maybe being able to choose how much information one wants).

Anyways, definitely nothing major, not sure how much it would be used, but I would find it handy.... probably email notification would be my preference.

Again, not sure how many would want to use it, but I would, so I figured I'ld throw it out here  Grin
I think a similar idea regarding SMS notifications was brought up a couple weeks ago, but I don't recall whether it made it onto Doc's incredibly long list.  If an option for E-Mail notification ever becomes available, I will also use it.  Either way, I love BitMinter.

As a side note, nice jump in hashing power from your recent video card purchases, boozer.
