301  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Should I Be Traffic Shaping Port 8332 On My Dedicated Mining Router? on: June 13, 2011, 08:09:44 PM
it's probably due to DDOS on the major pools and isn't something traffic shaping would fix

Well I am not 100% sure what the problem is.

Do the newer versions of phoenix miner recoup from a downed internet connection and/or ddos downed pool in general?
302  Bitcoin / Mining / Should I Be Traffic Shaping Port 8332 On My Dedicated Mining Router? on: June 13, 2011, 07:44:59 PM
I have a DIR-655 Dlink wireless router I am using to supply internet access to 4 mining rigs each running about 5 cards.

I am having troubles connecting to deepbit.net occasionally using phoenix miner. I will mine great for a few hours/days but eventually some of the cards go offline and never come back on. This is always preceeded by a "deepbit.net unavailable" type message...

Would It make sense to optimize port 8332 or my router in the QOS/traffic shaping section?

I have read phoenix miner is no good at re-connecting from downed internet connections (I am using the version available in linuxcoin v0.2a, not sure what version of phoenix it is, perhaps I have to upgrade?)

Any suggestions are appreciated!
303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eBay Deleting All Bitcoin Listings on: June 13, 2011, 07:13:26 PM
Sell USB sticks that just incidentally have wallet.dat files on them with 100 BTC.  People sell "collectible ammunition boxes" on ebay all the time that just incidentally contain the ammunition.

Proof? I can't find any record of ammo boxes containing ammunition.

Before I listen to anything you say, do you have any credentials that are worth noting?

Well, if it is about credentials here more than about what I have to say: I did graduate in IT at university.

You went through all of university without ever hearing the word "fallacy"? God help us.
305  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Newegg has 5830's in stock... on: June 13, 2011, 06:21:34 PM

That card version is almost a full year "newer".

Not for long. Just bought 4 of them.
307  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is a bequitet 430W enough for a HD5870? on: June 13, 2011, 06:12:24 PM
Hey there,
just ordered a returned Gigabyte HD5870 for 177€.

Got a Bequiet 430W power supply and asked myself if I need a new power supply for using the card (OC or not) and or extra fans?

Actually Im running an Athlon Dual 6000+ with 2 GB DDR2-Ram , Nvidia 8800GTS and 3 IDE-HDDs.

Thanks for help

If your CPU draws over 75 watts then I would say no, it is not powerful enough.

You always want to "over do it" with your PSU.
308  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How do I get 245 Mhash out of my 5830? on: June 13, 2011, 06:11:09 PM
idk how you even manage not to get 245, which should be pretty default.
Some things for starters:
- Flash the BIOS with RBE to 950 core 320 memory
- use phoenix with phatk kernel

For both things there are multiple threads in this forum describing the necessary steps.

Yea I was gonna say Tongue My 5830s do 245 stock.

Here you go.
310  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What's the slowest/oldest CPU to get for a GPU mining rig? on: June 13, 2011, 06:06:32 PM
I am running a $25, single cored, AMD 1.8 GHZ Athlon cpu (the 160U).

It only runs at 20 watts, low heat, and I have 6 cards running full speed ahead on them.
311  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 13, 2011, 05:47:28 PM
What version of phoenix miner is running on 0.2a Huh

I keep noticing the odd video card spit out problems according to phoenix miner... it takes between 1 and 30 minutes for the cards to come back online.

Anybody care to share the code for updating phoenix miner on linuxcoin with persistence?
312  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone tried 6 cards on GD70? on: June 13, 2011, 05:10:34 PM
No - a 1200 watt PSU is NOT enough for 6 * 5850s.

And yes, I am running 6 cards on a 890fxa-gd70 right now... and 5 on a 790fx-gd70

Yea seriously, spill the beans Tongue
314  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Crap XFX Cards Getting Higher Speeds/Cooler Temperatures Than Gigabyte Cards? on: June 13, 2011, 06:09:11 AM
I purchased 3 * 5870 OC edition Gigabyte cards through Newegg, and 3*5870 XFX cards as well.

The xfx cards can run at 960/300mhz core/memory and spit out 410 mhash+ at ~75 celcius.

The OC edition gigabyte cards struggle to stay under 90 degrees celcius even at 880/300.

Anybody else notice this? Are the OC edition Gigabyte cards no good for mining?

I have 6 * gigabyte 5870s (non OC edition) that run great... 410 mhash at 80 celcius maximum. So confused :S
315  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: WARNING - 5850 Overclockers! on: June 13, 2011, 04:50:20 AM
I don't think this is news to anyone who overclocks, or if it is, they shouldn't be overclocking.  You really need to watch ALL of your available temperatures.  The problems happen when even one exceeds the limits.  The sensor is invariably some distance away from the heat source even so it's reading will be a bit cooler (usually only a couple degC)

Many stock cards have very poor VRM cooling, or poor cooling in general.  I just got a couple 6870 Sapphires (never owned a sapphire, nor a 6870) and the VRM heatsinks are way too small to be doing overclocking.  The primary HSF looks decent though.  Untested since I'm still waiting on the motherboard to show up.

It was news to me! Lowering my OC on some of my 58xx cards until I can get an infared heat gun.

First thing this guy says is that truecrypt is crackable. Is that true???
317  Bitcoin / Project Development / We need more windows Apps, People! on: June 12, 2011, 07:54:08 AM
Just an outsider's view here...

Lots of linux/apple/ios/android apps...

But the fact of the matter is... 80%+ of the world still uses the internet through a windows platform.

320  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Should we buy bitcoin.com ? on: June 12, 2011, 05:14:51 AM
why so many care about dotcom domains ? what bad with .info or .org ?

There's still a large population who don't know there is anything other than .com.

Large as in 99%
