301  Bitcoin / Project Development / The Humble Bundle Mojam 2 on: February 22, 2013, 11:54:10 PM
Update:
Quote
Note: The event is officially over but you can still donate until March 2nd!

You'll get to see the games once this bundle is over.

Still there are a few builds that one can download, at least 1 for now, I tried a Day 1 build of "Space Hunk(windows only for now)" in wine. Kind of entertaining I think, especially if they add sound in the final product.

0.01 USD symbolic donations are possible in this bundle.

There are lots of people behind these games, and some of them may like a tip of some amount in BTC if you like their games. If I find anyone whose games I like and I find they accept BTC I'll update this post

Humble Bundle gamedev/company, date of communication(or date contacted),comment

'No reply yet':
Nuclear Pizza War by Mojang [@MojangTeam] creators of Minecraft, contacted 2013-02-27, contacted through twitter as they don't have any other formal way of contact.
DaisyMoon by oxeye.se, contacted 2013-02-27, emailed their questions in general section. I just said that I liked their game DaisyMoon(for such short development time I found it quite enjoyable) and that if they are already familiar with BTC they could if they wish to accept my donation. Otherwise they are free to just accept my humble thanks for helping with the Mojam 2 bundle.

'Of interest':
http://www.wolfire.com/llc features a video(v=UDxxMvY65TI) explaining the game Low Light Combat by Wolfire Games where they suggest at 2:52 "or you can donate to the Blender Development Fund and support and support open source 3D modeling and animation software" (this game has recently been released, at least to my own knowledge, for the Humble Bundle Mojam 2)
302  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BitElectronics - Electronics with Bitcoins, free shipping to EU! on: February 14, 2013, 10:50:16 AM
Wow, that's kinda cool! I just checked your Business ID (Finnish: Y-tunnus, Yritys- ja yhteisötunnus, Swedish: FO-nummer, Företags- och organisationsnumret) out here http://www.ytj.fi/english/yritystiedot.aspx?yavain=2150546&kielikoodi=3&tarkiste=7C1DC86E9A08445EF7BD3C6F577A2401EB5931FD&path=1704;1736;2052

It's in English so nobody has to know the Swedish or the Finnish language to read the details.

Also your stuff seem to be high-end. I found no gaming mouses on your site if I checked thoroughly.
Maybe there's no market yet for low end technical stuff... or maybe they are mostly found on p2p trading like bitcoin-otc Undecided

Yeah thanks. Your explanation in post #5 was helpful, I understand now. If you had a BTC tip address maybe I'd send a tip.
304  Other / Beginners & Help / From where does my Bitcoin client download the public keys of others? on: February 13, 2013, 05:26:00 PM
From where does my Bitcoin client download the public keys of others? Are they stored in the blockchain or does the p2p network keep a separate list of public keys? Any help appreciated.

I checked the FAQ, and introduction to Bitcoin and "How Bitcoin Works". They don't go into the detail that my question seeks.

(by the way, the https://en.bitcoin.it page is outdated because it states that 50 BTC are created for each block. Nowadays since a long time a miner who finds a block only gets half=25 BTC for each block mined)

Necromancing thread to prevent anyone misunderstanding the quote below, and neglecting one of the 2 most basic technologies in Bitcoin so the thread had to be resurrected.

Proof of work and hashcash are not Bitcoin. SNIP
I agree, but the basic technology of checksums has been around for much before hashcash was implemented. Proof of work is simply calculating new checksums in brute-force until a desirable one is found, like when we have a goal that we want to reach when a block is deemed successfully calculated, and thus accepted by the rest of the Bitcoin network.
Though secure cryptographic checksums are for the moment SHA-256. I don't know if SHA-1 is considered a secure cryptographic checksum.

Though I find of course the original poster's(OP) message dubious since the Bitcoin blockchain started early 2009 if I remember correctly.
306  Economy / Goods / Re: Proxy to order Dominos Pizza with BTC on: February 10, 2013, 04:08:11 PM
This is a useful service, though unfortunately Domino's is not available in my country Sweden. There is dominos.se but that's only franchise marketing, they hope to get some Swedish company to invest in a restaurant.

Though in Greece there's a Domino Pizza in Thessaloniki. I'll check that out some day(especially to see if it ships in my area)
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi actually Richard Stallman? on: February 10, 2013, 03:00:07 PM
I met Stallman in the London conference and he was quite clueless about bitcoin as a whole.

I doubt he's such a good actor.
Yeah, he must be pretty damn clueless. Watching that Bitcoin 2012 London: Richard Stallman, he only made a few comments about Bitcoin on a 43 minute speech:
0:10 Bitcoin mentioned 13:00 Wikileaks btc donation. 33:50 Bitcoin licensing copyleft non-copyleft 42:35 Bitcoin mentioned. The talk had little or nothing to do with Bitcoin.
He talked about how Bitcoin is licensed, and said that some projects he doesn't have a problem if they aren't copyleft. Did we learn anything new now?
308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi actually Richard Stallman? on: February 10, 2013, 02:54:02 PM

Congratulations. You just resurrected an 18 month old thread.
Just look up Bitcoin 2012 London: Richard Stallman. Maybe it was just I who resurrected you.

If you cared on the subject you would already had watched Stallman here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN6Q--zqroM
I guessed you just wanted to tell somebody 'hey resurrection' without actually doing any research beforehand.
309  Bitcoin / Project Development / Just checking...sms services in Greece interested in accepting [btc]? on: February 10, 2013, 12:17:41 PM
My first idea is of a web site that will provide users the ability to send SMS messages to Greek mobiles, at low rates (or free if the service becomes self-sustainable).
Hmm, that's an idea you have there. I don't have any ideas. If you don't mind this post being here(can be updated) to see responses or standpoints from sms services in Greece to see which ones have any potential interest in accepting BTC.

I don't find it worth the effort to contact viva.gr's sms service for personal reasons.
[Service, date of inquiry,comment]

Got a reply:
time4sms.gr, Feb 10 2013, They have not stated any view on Bitcoin at all, they didn't answer on that point. They said "We require a Greek cellphone number and we accept only €". Lips sealed No time for time4sms.

'No reply yet':
bulker.gr, Feb 10 2013, Asking about if I am required to have a Greek phone number to register(and test out their service for 5 free sms messages) and if they accept Bitcoin.
opensms.gr, Feb 10 2013, Asking if I am required to have a Greek phone number to register and what they think or feel about Bitcoin.

txt4coins.net is the only SMS service that I know that supports Bitcoin purchases of SMS'es. Still waiting for a reply from bulker.
310  Economy / Economics / Re: Concerned about the recent BTC price rise. on: February 09, 2013, 07:05:42 PM
TooCasual's post #53 provides some interesting viewpoint. Thanks for this viewpoint! LOL, like I've gotten used to seeing BTC addresses on most poster's signatures, I didn't see one on yours(or your profile page). Maybe you don't need one. Nevermind, you could have gotten a bitcent as thanks, though now my bare thanks+keep it up! will have to do. Cheesy

So it's not just speculation that's driving up the price. This may just be a normal price change in BTC where it will settle somewhere. As usual I'll wait for 10-15 days until the price settles somewhere with stability.  Grin
311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi actually Richard Stallman? on: February 06, 2013, 03:34:53 PM
Couldn't be. He's not Japanese.  Cheesy
Seriously, this should not be limited to any one in particular. I would use the pseudonym Cheese Salad, would that necessarily mean that I am a salad?
312  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-04 Direct Use Value of Bitcoin on: February 05, 2013, 11:46:30 PM
Yes, but it is on topic and the author is a supporter of Bitcoin since he accepts donations in BTC.
313  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-05 -- Introducing Amazon Coins on: February 05, 2013, 11:37:39 PM
Not a single reference to Bitcoin in this article...though it seems somebody is promoting awareness of Amazon virtual currency. Why should we care? This is not even a cryptocurrency and it has central control just like Linden Labs has over the Linden Dollar so in practical terms Amazon = Linden Labs. Both centralised powers, and we know how it goes for currency systems with central powers.

We on the other hand use an open and free protocol. We have the decentralised potential that the internet itself has. They no threat, lol haha  Cheesy
314  Economy / Economics / Re: Concerned about the recent BTC price rise. on: February 04, 2013, 09:23:00 AM
Is it me or is bitcoincharts suffering downtimes? That's where I check regularly, to see if there will be some BTC stability so I can get involved again...I found someone worthwhile to donate to!  Grin

I don't know if you'll agree but this is somehow how new religions are started. Keyword: Hope!

Quote
Please Dear Holy Bitcoin, give us stability so that I can continue using this wonderful currency based on Proof of Work and Public key cryptography!
[bows to the ground and makes some personal ritual]
Religions start with hope, but maybe also depression. The good thing though could be if BTC stays at a higher price in a stable way, but it really must be worth it, otherwise we've lost precious time!

Superb. Ωραία! Interesting news. I thought that Bitcoin was still unheard of in Greece. Good effort!
316  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-01 americanbanker.com - PayPal's File-Sharing Restrictions Drive Merchan on: February 02, 2013, 12:18:42 PM
What I would like to know is what BitPay is going to do when they come under the same kind of litigious pressure that PayPal did.
Let's just hope that the company that has connected to BitPay is ready to accept BTC directly, if their intermediary comes under fire. If it comes under fire before, then we'll be trying to help it be easier for them to see the benefits of accepting BTC directly, won't we?
317  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-01 CalvinAyre.com - Why Bitcoin Can No Longer Be Ignored on: February 02, 2013, 12:06:56 PM
It is Public key Cryptography and only digital signatures, NO ENCRYPTION.

Isn't a digitally signed message the message encrypted with the private key?

No, encrypted messages are only created by using someone else's public key.
Your Bitcoin address is your public key.(speaking in pure practical terms)

Just a short example: You have a public key and a private key. Your public key can be shared on the internet so that people can send you Bitcoins. Your private key is kept your personal property(and you should keep it that way, otherwise people can spend your BTC) and is used by you to digitally sign bitcoin transactions which you want to make.

Everyone else, actually the Bitcoin software, verify that your Bitcoin transaction is valid by checking your public key against the transaction that you signed with your private key.

I hope I didn't confuse you any, please ask more questions. It took me quite some time myself to get used to the general idea with private and public keys.

[Quoting a bit of the article]
Quote from: by Guest Author – BitCoin Fan
without studying up on such esoteric topics as public key encryption
It is Public key Cryptography and only digital signatures, NO ENCRYPTION.
MYTH WARNING-->"Bitcoins are encrypted"
Then the technology behind the blockchain which is Proof of Work, or cryptographic checksums which are closely related. Proof of Work is just the use of cryptographic checksums to brute-force a specific checksum which will then be included in the blockchain(the next block that is). Sorry this is not so much an explanation but more a comment to the article. The problem I see is if people start searching for encryption in the technology public key cryptography, they won't understand BTC better and that's because there is no encryption used in Bitcoin. Only digital signatures are used

The positive side is that you can learn how Bitcoin works while you are here(bitcointalk rulez!), so that's a good thing.  Grin
319  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Jamendo, ccmixter and other indie(or not) music artists that accept Bitcoin on: February 01, 2013, 09:30:52 PM
Making music about Bitcoin - please see my signature Smiley
I've listened to some of it.

Update: Positive suprise. Zeropage accepts bitcoin:16V3xQnAzUVWbNLnt3cfkNwkCyF8Z2irSV . Contact zeropage-media.com to verify. I've also been informed that 2 albums 'ambient pills' were released 7 years ago. I wouldn't say this music is ambient, more trance and rhythmic!

Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.
I'm not completely sure as I think this topic fits more in the Project Development category of this forum, but that's maybe only a matter of taste and bureaucracy.

I've contacted bandcamp and got a reply. No good news but still being in contact gives you a feel how close they are to beginning to accept BTC one day.

I'll say in short what their view on Bitcoin is since I don't like pasting emails without asking for permission beforehand(date of reply is Jan 29 2013):
They said they are keeping an eye on Bitcoin that it looks like a great idea and that they have several requests to support it. Also that they don't have any immediate plans to support it.
Oh well..
