3001  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "HCP's (at least) one month long experiment of the Arakne Trading Bot"™ on: December 29, 2019, 09:24:26 PM
"All quiet on the western front"...

Since the big loss... there has been no trading.

That's pretty much 2 weeks of no activity now. Undecided
I would say that two weeks of no trading pretty much means he is a scammer IMO, considering the other facts. This is disappointing because I somewhat stuck my neck out for him, and it turns out I was wrong.

I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to design a bot as described by him, although I am not sure anyone with the technical skills to do so would be selling the bot for what he was selling access to it for.
3002  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tutorial] How to create Lightning Network Channel (Testnet BTC) on: December 29, 2019, 04:38:04 AM

There are some services that, for a fee, will open a LN channel that will allow you to receive a certain amount of coin, even if you have not spent anything on LN. This is known as having inbound capacity. You will typically need to pay the service the cost of the opening and closing transactions in advance, plus a percentage of the inbound capacity you are asking them to provide.
Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea what it was although I have encountered something similar to this when I tried to create a channel; didn't bother much at that time though.
This is something you would encounter if you were to ever receive your salary via LN payments, or if you were to receive payment for services on an ongoing basis.
3003  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: your own btc node. on: December 29, 2019, 03:55:00 AM
If you have sufficient resources to create a full node, you can do so and use RPC commands to obtain the same information you would be able to get from a block explorer API.

Unfortunately, Bitcoin Core RPC commands is poor compared with Block Explorer API.
Poor in what way? You should be able to get literally the same information from RPC commands, and can write a script to get the information by making a series of RPC calls to feed in whatever information you are looking for into a database.

There are a number of cloud providers that will give you enough credit to allow you to spin up a VPS with sufficient resources to obtain (and load into a database) this information for free.

You would do something along the lines of setting the results of RPC commands as variables that are fed into subsequent RPC commands, and from there set more results into more variables that are iterated through, and those results are inserted into your database.

I don't see any good reason to pay for a Block Explorer API if you have the skill set to programmatically obtain this information yourself.
3004  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Token and cryptocurrency coin are same or different? on: December 29, 2019, 03:24:14 AM
There is a huge difference between a cryptocurrency coin and Token. Both crypto coins and Token are cryptocurrencies.
I would generally not consider a "token" a "cryptocurrency".

I would consider a "cryptocurrency" as something that has a blockchain (among other requirements). A token is something that uses a cryptocurrency's blockchain in order to allow the creator and holders of the token to transfer ownership of the token, which signifies transfer of ownership of (what may be an) underlying asset that token holders own.

A cryptocurrency will not derive its value from an underlying asset, but rather from its security, and its usefulness of conducting transactions to transfer ownership of tokens, or other financial transactions (or other non-financial transactions).

3006  Economy / Reputation / Re: Have you seen Yobit's new signature design? on: December 27, 2019, 09:24:53 PM
This is what a random shitcoin from Yobit's Investbox looks like.

Pony Token (PONY) currently being on 1st page giving 2% daily.

No team, no roadmap, no whitepaper, not even a single sentence or any kind of information given.

Fake hyperlinks to Livecoin and Hitbtc as that coin has never been listed there. A $15 smart contract pumped and dumped by Yobit.

The black beast, one of many Ponzi coins listed on Yobit proudly promoted by a horde of spineless shills.

Wow, this is in fact much worse than a ponzi. It appears YoBit is engaging in a pump and dump scheme. What YoBit is doing is very distinct from what a ponzi is, and people wishing to warn others about YoBit should not describe their scheme as a ponzi.

YoBit sells the privilege to have random coins listed on their exchange, so it is possible it is not YoBit that is creating these shit coins, but they are still profiting from the listing fees and trading fees.

In either case, it appears that YoBit is enticing people to buy what amounts to vaporware with the promise of "risk free" profits. I am not aware of any potential long term value or benefit to owning these coins. These coins do not even attempt to provide any benefit to holders. In the case of the Pony Token, there is literally no one holding the token except YoBit on behalf of their customers.
3007  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tutorial] How to create Lightning Network Channel (Testnet BTC) on: December 26, 2019, 05:59:43 PM

Please remember that you can only receive fund what you have spent. If you have funded your channel with 0.01 BTC & you haven't spent anything yet, you can't receive any amount.

3008  Economy / Lending / Re: [RISKY LOAN] 0.09 NEEDED FOR 4 DAYS 2.5% INTEREST PER DAY on: December 26, 2019, 05:49:40 PM
an you PM me an address please?

I would like to send the txID and stuffs in private. Here is my lending topic to understand how I do things.

Cheers,
Loan sent!
Have fun both of you :-)

Edit:
Loan sent using two txID. There was some confusion from my part but finally sent the whole about that was asked for (0.09 BTC)

Cheers,
I want to let you know that the little information you are posting is enough to figure out the txid in question, and in turn the addresses in question. This is true even if everyone you gave a loan to never reused any addresses, but most people around here heavily reuse addresses, making even moderately advanced analysis unnecessary.

The txid's you used to fund the loan were 5dedd8a8ead892fdc72f1c1e1c70d58d808c92102a087266c97927dd0de6d1ee, 579dec9f47613f72a12cde098af3436c353ba8dfedf482c42cc056f73f9e6f56

Asking borrowers to not specify a specific amount they are requesting would help with privacy, as would requiring that borrowers receive the loan to an unused address. Instead, you could ask borrowers to publicly select a choice of a range of loan amounts they are asking for, with the specifics to be discussed via PM. You could also delay posting that you have repaid the loan by a range of hours, and asking your borrowers to do the same. To address issues with proving you funded a loan, and proving a borrower agreed to specific terms, you could ask for a signed message outlining the specific terms, including the exact amount, exact address to fund the loan to and the exact address they will repay the loan to.
3009  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How best to secure your Private Keys and/or Seed phrase on: December 26, 2019, 06:39:08 AM
Private keys are usually not made available to the wallet owner, (although some wallets allow you to import it) rather you are given a seed phrase or recovery phrase.
Not true. You can get private key in almost all of the software wallet (in desktop/PC).
This is true, but generally speaking, most users should not be directly interacting with their private keys (as opposed to their wallet software accessing them), as doing so is a good way for them to get compromised.
3010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hard Drive Encryption and Steganography, looking to increase opsec on: December 26, 2019, 06:05:26 AM
Say that someone steals my computer or gains access. If it shuts down and everything is encrypted, it would stop the information leak that would cause, perhaps prevent some 2-factor, email + password reset or e-mail change sort of hacks into random accounts that I may have.
I want to point out that if your computer is "on" (and unencrypted) when an adversary gains access to your computer, your adversary may be able to obtain the decryption keys that are being stored in RAM (memory). If an adversary gains access to your decryption keys, they can later bypass any full disk encryption you are using fairly trivially.

This means if your computer is "on" (and your hard drive is unencrypted), you will need to be warned long enough in advance for a) you to react to the warning to understand what is happening and start (and) b) either cutoff power or shutdown your computer (which may involve physically removing the battery if using a laptop) before an adversary will be in a position to physically separate you from your computer.
3011  Other / Politics & Society / Re: While people stare at Trumps Ukraine comments, Biden is let off the hook. on: December 26, 2019, 05:44:11 AM
I have my doubts as to if Trump will get impeached, but if he does get impeached, I would predict that both Joe and Hunter Biden will be asked to testify and their corruption will be highlighted. Both will be under political pressure to not plead the fifth and a trump impeachment could ironically lead to criminal charges against some closely associated with the Obama administration.

This was the plan from the start. There is a reason Trump mentioned Crowdstrike in that call, it was a trap for thirsty dems looking for anything to latch on to, baiting them into exposing Biden.

The Senate isn't going to do this. McConell continues to signal that he wants a fast and quick acquittal. Trump and some Conservatives are saying that they want both Bidens to come in front of them and talk, but that truly could backfire and the Republicans don't want to risk it.

With public opinion in the 48-48 range. They know that they're going to be able to sweep this under the rug and move on. That's the best thing Trump can do for his reelection campaign. Better not to risk it.
It currently looks unlikely there will be any witnesses at the Senate trial, if one happens. As a side note, Senate rules currently state something along the lines of they will promptly hold a trial upon receiving impeachment 'papers' from the House, however this requirement is not in the constitution. Some are calling for the Senate to amend their rules by a majority vote, and hold a trial with or without house managers being voted on and approved by Democrats.

It is possible that either Biden testifying at Trump's trial will be a moot point considering that Biden is allegedly under criminal investigation, and if the younger Biden is charged, Joe will probably need to exit the race due to the potential liability that Hunter will be willing to give politically damaging details of his various arrangements.
3012  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why is amount of private keys that can generate the exact address not a concern? on: December 24, 2019, 10:33:23 PM
Even if you were to generate a key that can spend coin in an address with unspent inputs, it would be difficult to know that you did. It is trivial to generate a lot of keys, but it is difficult to know if they can spend coin on an ongoing basis. If you generated a key today that in a week receives coin, you would have no way of knowing if you had been generating keys continuously for the past week at a maximum capacity. It isn’t difficult to check if an address has unspent inputs as of a previous block height but this is not feasible to monitor many addresses if you are generating private keys as quickly as your CPU allows.
3013  Other / Meta / Re: Replace google captcha with another provider that supports TOR. on: December 24, 2019, 10:00:59 PM
In order to get past the first two (one to sign up and one to login the first time), you will need to access the forum via an IP address that is not TOR. If you want to remain anonymous, you will need to find one that will not remain associated with you. If you know what you are doing, this should not be difficult.
3014  Economy / Reputation / Re: Have you seen Yobit's new signature design? on: December 24, 2019, 09:56:28 PM
Reading this thread and some other threads I see some users arguing is 10% daily (or whatever they are offering) ponzi or not, well, if it looks like a duck swims like a duck and quacks like a duck then it probably is ponzi. Someone who is wearing "buy x10 and get 10% daily" is directly advertising pyramid scheme, question to campaign manager @yahoo what makes X10 better than arbitao? What makes it better than bitconnect or any other scam coin? Really nothing. And to be honest, I couldn't find any info about this token, it is like they are selling air under the name X10, and promising 10% more oxygen daily.
A lot of people in the forum like to refer to a wide range of financial frauds as a 'ponzi', even when the actual fraud involved is very different than a ponzi, and in many instances, the fraud is much worse than a ponzi because it is more complex.

In the case of YoBit, specifically of the x10 coin, or whatever it is called, I don't know if it is a ponzi, or some other type of financial fraud, such as a pump and dump scheme (as they have a history of), but in either case, YoBit is engaging in material deception (if not for the deception, a reasonable person who believes the lies would not have invested in what they are offering), and at or near the conclusion of the fraud, nearly all investors will lose nearly all of their investment.
3015  Economy / Reputation / Re: Red trust removing. Conditions. on: December 23, 2019, 07:12:39 PM
You should ask yourself if the act or condition that made you decide to add red trust still applies.

You might argue that earning some merit (not bought on the black market) is a sign of changed behavior and is overall a decent forum member.
3016  Economy / Services / Re: CryptoTalk.Org Signature Campaign [Yobit Panel] on: December 23, 2019, 06:58:11 PM

We have to wait until office announcement from campaign manager about sudden changes what happened in cryptotalk signature campaign and what will the next move it will consider as ponzi promotion or not so I am waiting for yahoo62278 response regarding signature campaign. as my thoughts this is not a ponzi.
You are currently advertising something that promises “guaranteed” returns of 10%.

This is clearly fraudulent in one way or another. You don’t need anyone else to tell you this. If you disagree with this conclusion, your judgment is being clouded by the promise of the payment of a couple dollars per post you make.

Someone explained that 10% is for their coin that they can create how much they want.
The statement is ‘buy [ x] and earn 10%’.

If they are giving 10% out of thin air, you are not actually receiving anything because everyone else is receiving the same ‘payment’ and the value of the coin falls by 10%.

This sounds like a scheme to entice people into buying their shit coin whose price will inevitably go to zero eventually.

3018  Economy / Reputation / Re: Have you seen Yobit's new signature design? on: December 23, 2019, 06:33:10 PM
That is obviously a new campaign and would be considered a violation of yahoo's contract with cryptotalk (yobit). He may actually stop managing the campaign and most signature participants could also leave because of that.
If yahoo62278 stops managing the campaign, it's open for all shitposters again, and spammers with farmed accounts won't care if they're promoting a likely scam.
Until theymos bans their signature again.
I think this is a pretty weak argument in favor of someone getting paid to help promote a very shady company (some would go as far as to say that YoBit is an outright scam).

Furthermore, some participants may argue that they are participating because yahoo is managing the campaign.

I don’t think the possibility that shitposters might spam the forum is a reason to help a scam advertise. It seems to me that the payment for campaign management services is more about YoBit being allowed to advertise without significant pushback against their participants and less about actually managing their campaign.

I have to say I am disappointed that others are not being vocal about this.

All I ask for you to do is say something nice about any other forum member and I'll award you one merit.
I wanted to write about someone who I do not always see eye to eye with instead of someone who I often agree with:

suchmoon often posts information that is interesting to a lot of users.
3020  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Check the balance of your Bitcoin address at a specific date on: December 23, 2019, 02:57:41 AM
Can you think of a reason why you would want to know your balance on an "specific date" instead of an "specific block height"?
An auditor may be trying to confirm that a business owed x bitcoins on y date as reflected in their business records. This verification may eventually be changed to '...as of block z..." but the auditor would need to know which blocks were found on y date.

A useful functionality might be for your program to allow a user to input a time zone and date, your program would output the starting and ending blocks found in that time, and the user can then make a query as of a specific block.
