3021  Other / Meta / Re: [WORKS AGAIN] LoyceV's alternative for Piggy's @mention notification bot on: December 21, 2019, 06:37:56 PM
Without posting your own link your entry gets rejected.
Gotcha. I was curious about what is preventing someone from making changes to other people's notifications.

edit:
One thing I noticed is the use of "Today" in quotes. If someone quotes my message the day I post it, my notification page will reflect "today" in the quote header, even if I am reviewing my notification page several days from now.

Perhaps you can review the 'quoteheader' div tag for the word "Today" and replace the word "today" with the current date.

I am unable to view the 'edited posts' part of your site, but my presumption is that there is a similar issue with that project as well.

3024  Other / Meta / Re: Trivia: 100000th merited post on: December 19, 2019, 06:56:20 PM
This shouldn’t be difficult for anyone with access to all the merit sent and knows what they are doing.

Without looking at any data, I would say the merit was given a year+ ago if there have been 180k posts merited to date. I don’t see anyone reasonably guessing without access to the all time merit data.

Edit:

.

I'll guess the 100kth merited post was made by actmyname, merited by bones261, and ironically in the meta board something to do with the topic of merits..
It sounds like you are playing the numbers game.
3025  Other / Meta / Re: [ANN]Self Moderator Bot on: December 19, 2019, 02:45:41 PM
Congratulations, I think you have your first customer - it seems that Bitcoin SV put your bot to good use:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5149062.msg53385641#msg53385641
Someone in the BSV team is surly capable of writing this code (the code is not complicated). You have even been banned from self moderated threads before.

The current forum rules already allow for OPs if self moderated threads to effectively do what my bot does. If they are scamming, you should open a scam accusation, if one doesn’t exist for the particular scam.

Furthermore, I doubt either the presence or absence of the posts in question are going to change anyone’s mind regarding that shit-coin.

I am a firm believer of equal access, opportunity and knowledge for everyone. I will keep up the code.

I have also received messages from others about my code who appeared interested in using the code.
3026  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump Impeachment Hearings [serious discussion] on: December 19, 2019, 03:37:49 AM
Well, the inevitable has finally happened.
I am surprised it took this long. I had figured they would have impeached Trump within the first day of getting the majority.

Non-interestingly, the vote was split right across party lines, with 2 Dems voting Nay for both articles.
This just shows this was a partisan exercise. There is bipartisan opposition to impeaching Trump.
Tulsi Gabbard gave the weird answer of "Present" for both articles.
This was her not voting to further divide America, while not giving Trump further political ammunition.

Pelosi reportedly has not committed to even sending the articles of Impeachment to the Senate, so there may never even be a trial. I guess the argument that Trump did something so bad that he needed to be removed from office a year from an election was bogus.
3027  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump Impeachment Hearings [serious discussion] on: December 18, 2019, 09:48:28 PM
The house is debating the articles of impeachment today. They have 6 hours of debate, half for democrats and half for Republicans. They started around noon today, so time for debate should end around 6-630 this afternoon.

There is a lot of hyperbole and a lot of hysteria.
3028  Other / Meta / Re: Feature Request: [Site Status Page] on: December 18, 2019, 04:39:58 PM
These pages are updated manually by who is typically an engineer.

I believe theymos is the only one who handles these types of issues and if he isn’t around to deal with any problems causing downtime, he won’t be around to update any status website. Theymos also has created threads in meta advising of any downtime.

If the forum were to use one of these downtime notification websites, I would suggest statuspage.io, but the forum is really not complex enough to warrant using one IMO.
3029  Economy / Lending / Re: I want to borrow 100 BSV on: December 17, 2019, 08:37:48 PM
Why would anyone in their right mind want to do it? For a measly 0.25%...

Offer 25% and you might find someone willing to take the risk.

It is one week loan. Yearly it would be ~ 12,5%. And what is the risk for the lender? I have a collateral. If someone holds BSV what is the problem for him to lend them for a week? I don't get it.
The risk is the value of BSV declines. I don’t think many lenders around here are holding large amounts of BSV, so they would be subject to prove risks even if you repay.
3030  Other / Meta / Re: Please help me to get details on boards, sub-boards of posts/topics on: December 17, 2019, 07:16:55 PM
You will need to run a for loop through the links where the boards are to get the board number.
3031  Economy / Services / Re: CONTEST: design loyce.club home page on: December 17, 2019, 05:09:45 PM
Are you actually uploading “files” to your computer/server every week?

If so, this may be a good time to move to a more efficient way of handling your data.

Regardless, you should look at bootstrap, which can help you with CSS on your site with minimal coding.

3032  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Check links with Virustotal. False positive results, how much they are? on: December 17, 2019, 04:13:50 PM
It appears that every link at the domain paste.ee is flagged as malware, see https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/fbdb6fc14448ac7325ca602cf60270cfde7554e320bddd425c9e877e78aac292/detection

I am unsure if this is because there is a malicious cookie or something else on the website, or if it is because enough malware was uploaded to that domain that the domain was blacklisted.
3033  Other / Meta / Re: Please help me to get details on boards, sub-boards of posts/topics on: December 17, 2019, 03:23:24 AM
The topic number of this thread, 5210219 I believe was assigned because the previous thread that was created was topic number 5210218. I don't believe it has anything to do with the fact it was created in the meta sub-board, and if it were to be moved to another sub, I don't believe the topic number would change.

If you visit a single post in a thread, you know which board every post in that thread is located in. So if you need to check for 100 posts in the same thread, you only need to visit one page in that thread. If you have a relational database, you can create a new table that has a list of each thread you are looking at, and record the board ID, and the topic number (along with any other information you need about the thread).

If you are visiting a thread, you can tell your program to look at the following to get the board number the thread is on:
find all the "div" tags with the class "nav" ("1st Query")
From the 1st Query, search for all the links ("2nd Query")
From the 2nd Query, you can search for all the URLs that contain "php?board=" ("3rd Query").
From the 3rd Query, you can isolate the board number for each link ("4th Query")
From the 4th Query, convert the result to an integer (if you haven't already), and find the highest result. This is the board number the thread is located in.
3034  Other / Meta / Re: Please help me to get details on boards, sub-boards of posts/topics on: December 17, 2019, 02:57:10 AM
Are you trying to figure out what board a particular thread is in from visiting the thread? Or do you want to know based on other information?
3035  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is buying bitcoin using ewallets like Paypal safe? on: December 16, 2019, 01:21:21 AM
Most businesses that are willing to accept PayPal in exchange for bitcoin are either going to charge you rates well above what is commercially competitive, or will be trying to scam you.

Your best bet is to convert any money you have in your PayPal account to money in your bank account and either buy bitcoin for cash, or use your bank balance to fund a deposit at an exchange.
3036  Economy / Reputation / Re: The Piggy disappearance and the Notification bot issues, discussion thread. on: December 16, 2019, 01:03:33 AM
Am I the only one who thinks we should just let him do whatever he is doing? Maybe he is passing through some personal problems, maybe something happened, or maybe he just decided to quit for some time without any warning. In all cases, I wouldn’t want people to search for any of my personal details online to try to contact me.

Whatever is happening/happened with him, let him take care of it. In private.

He had also not posted in nearly 4 months prior to the last time he logged in.
Based on the reason stated above, I think it is probably a reasonable conclusion that he lost interest in posting from the forum.
3037  Economy / Reputation / Re: The Piggy disappearance and the Notification bot issues, discussion thread. on: December 15, 2019, 09:55:42 PM
Piggy hasn't been online in the forum for like 2 months now. A few days ago his notification bot also went offline.
I don't know where Piggy is, but my speculation is that he was using a rented VPS to host his notification bot, and that he stopped paying the bill for the VPS and it was eventually taken offline by his hosting provider.

His signature is now blank, but there is an old snapshot of his profile with a paid signature.

He had also not posted in nearly 4 months prior to the last time he logged in.

You can have your bot monitor https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm and have users send a PM with subscription requests instead of posting here. When your bot reads a message, it can add a label and remove the inbox label, so it knows which messages it has read.

If you need any more help with hosting fees, please just say. I'd be glad to make another donation (and I'm sure many others would too).
I still haven't found a reliable VPS, and my old netbook becomes more and more CPU-limited from the things I make it do Tongue I don't want to overspend on it, because I want to use it for many years, but I also don't want one that's not reliable. So basically I just need the time to sort it out.
I'd love to get a reliable VPS though, it makes my life so much easier. I'm currently uploading around 800,000 files per week.
There are a number of 'cloud' providers that offer 'always free' instances of a small/micro server upon credit card and phone number verification.

It would also be much more resource efficient to store your data in a database rather than a bunch of files. This will also make it easier to locate/query information when you are looking for something. The above referenced 'cloud' providers also often offer 'always free' database hosting.

#enter how frequently you wish to review your thread for banned posters, in seconds, minimum 1
frequency = 10
If many users start using this bot, it's going to cause a lot of page loads. If that becomes too much, a centralized api that scrapes all posts (like I do here, but I don't have an api) might be needed to prevent unneccessary scraping. It's very easy to know if a certain user posted in a certain thread, without (eventually) scraping hundreds of different threads.
I don't foresee this being a terrible strain on forum resources, even with heavy usage. I am not familiar with how DDoS attacks work, but I have read that they can send many gigabits of data/second to a website's network. If bot users checked their thread at a rate of once per every 10 seconds, it would take approximately 5,000 threads being moderated with the bot in order to cause the forum to send 1 GB every second.

An API would overall consume less resources because less data would need to be sent to each user. However it would require a lot more work, and other resources to setup. It would probably also require some ongoing maintenance. I might put something like this on my to-do list.
3040  Other / Meta / Re: Moving to Cloudflare on: December 15, 2019, 07:21:33 AM
I tried to post my Code and received a "Sorry you have been blocked" error message from Cloudflare saying that I was blocked, possibly for posting a SQL command, certain word, or malformed command.

I guess code can no longer be posted here?
