Why 1337 $ ??
For me will be a little lower than 1100

what matters is to top the previous high.

Getting over the previous gox high of $1242 is what matters.

That was the Mt.Gox ATH right?!
I don't this is relevant.
People will look for the Bitstamp and Bitfinex ATH.Only these count!
So far there is still some way to go (actual price is ~1050). Really curious if we can break it this time.

We already broke the Bitstamp and Bitfinex ATHs once. If we can break the gox ATH it will be all over the mainstream news. Bitcoin reaching the highest its ever been is good headline material.

Does cryptox return the bb distributed in the second round to the user?
or
Will they not return?

I think they must give back bb but cryptox admin does not tell anything

we  need  know  something

For the first distribution the cryptox admin said anyone with a BTC balance on cryptox at snapshot time gets the full 100% GBYTE from the snapshot. I assume those with GBYTE on cryptox also get their share of the second distribution. As cryptox doesn't have a black bytes market you could pm grzem and enquire if cryptox will pay its users the black bytes from the second distribution.

Cryptox.pl has started, all users get GBYTE according to their BTC balance at snapshot time in full 100%.
We've decided to pay in full, as there wasn't rush with BTC depos.
To get GBYTE, go to My account->BMCodes and click Use.
3024  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative coin distribution method: burn old stuff on: February 05, 2017, 04:23:35 PM
this is the same as buy the coins, except by the fact that no one will receive the actual payment

I don't like the idea of burning money.

It's the same system counterparty used.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterparty_(technology)

Quote
Counterparty has a native currency called XCP. It was originally issued using a provable method called "proof of burn". This method involves sending bitcoins to a special address that renders the coins permanently unspendable. By avoiding funding during its launch, Counterparty has ensured that developers and users have equal financial opportunities. During January 2014, 2125.63 bitcoins were sent to 1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr

https://blockchain.info/address/1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr

also how to be sure the devs or anyone else won't use a burning address that they have the private keys?

There are ways to make an address from a script that evaluates to false, and coins sent to any such address are unspendable. The address is generated from a script and has no private key, so a dev can't spend the coins sent to it.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_burn

Quote
By "burning" a tranche of bitcoins I just mean sending them to an address which is unspendable. The precise technical details of this will vary from cryptocurrency to cryptocurrency. With Bitcoin, any address which is [the RIPEMD160/SHA256 hash of] a script that evaluates to false will do. So, the script should do a "deliberately silly" thing - instead of things like "check such-and-such signature, and put the validity result on the stack", it should do something like "add 2 and 2, and now check if what's on top of the stack is equal to 5". (Or just "push 4, and check if it's equal to 5". Anything of that sort.) There are thus an unbounded number of such scripts, with entropy saturating RIPEMD160 since you can choose big numbers to taste. So, bitcoins sent to such a txout can never be redeemed on a future txin

40$ down in one day... Moon will come, but now aint the time yet.

Bullshit, there was no $40 drop.

Bitstamp $1040 high, $1008 low. It's now $1017.

3026  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 05, 2017, 12:31:11 AM
Now that we are past 1k it's almost boring already. But good to see my sig finally becoming vindicated, at least. Been saying since '13 that anything below 1k is cheap.

Boring is good, if it gets too exciting it's going up too fast, which will inevitably lead to a correction.

It's not the year of the chicken, it's the year of the cock.

Maybe the year of the Cock will be even luckier than the year of the Monkey.  Smiley
3030  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Stolen Bitfinex Coins on the Move on: January 31, 2017, 09:28:23 PM
I still fully think that Bitfinex are the ones that stole those coins, I really HOPE they aren't but my gut says that this is all them.

I guess they're trying to get their name out a bit right now.

Yep, this has to be the most obvious inside job in Bitcoin history.

I'd like to know If Bitfinex user accounts have 2 Factor Auth. Because If That's the case, It'll be an inside man kinda hack. as Far as I know 2 Fact Authentication can't be breached except there's an inside man who acts as an accomplice. Either Bitfinex I believe some day, The truth will soon be out

They had 2FA but it is irrelevant in this case

Since the hacker could just have broken into their servers from outside and stolen the keys totally bypassing this method of authentication. The coins hadn't been stolen from someone's account (as you erroneously seem to assume), they had been purportedly stolen from Bitfinex cold wallet(s) itself (themselves). But what is highly suspicious here is that all these wallets require multisignature. That pretty much means that all the sigs had been reachable to the attacker (which is yet more fishy) or it was exactly that, the inside job

2FA is useless if a customer service representative at a telecom carrier is negligent and forwards or ports your phone number to a hacker’s device. It's a common reason for big hacks.

Customer service representatives who don't ask all the security questions they should often give hackers control of people's phone numbers.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2016/12/20/hackers-have-stolen-millions-of-dollars-in-bitcoin-using-only-phone-numbers/

Quote
In all these cases, as with Kenna’s, the hackers don’t even need specialized computer knowledge. The phone number is the key. And the way to it get control of it is to find a security-lax customer service representative at a telecom carrier. Then the hacker can use the common security measure called two-factor authentication (2FA) via text. Logging in with 2FA via SMS is supposed to add an extra layer of security beyond your password by requiring you to input a code you receive via SMS (or sometimes phone call) on your mobile phone. All fine and dandy if you’re in possession of your phone number. But if it’s been forwarded or ported to your hacker’s device, then that code is sent straight to them, giving them the keys to your email, bank accounts, cryptocurrency, Facebook and Twitter accounts, and more.

Last summer, the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, which sets security standards for the federal government, “deprecated” or indicated it would likely remove support for 2FA via SMS for security. While the security level for the private sector is different from that of the government, Paul Grassi, NIST senior standards and technology advisor, says SMS “never really proved possession of a phone because you can forward your text messages or get them on email or on your Verizon website with just a password. It really wasn’t proving that second factor.”
3031  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 31, 2017, 05:53:44 PM
If you installed the full wallet can you send a transaction before its synced?

With Bitcoin and most altcoin wallets you can send a transaction before they are fully synced provided the wallet shows it contains your coins. Is byteball the same?

If it's not then can you convert a full wallet containing coins into a light wallet to avoid waiting for it to sync? The post below suggests you can't.

* Light wallet option for desktop wallets (the option is available only in new installs), now you don't have to wait that the sync completes and can start using the wallet immediately

3032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: VLT | Veltor | Lean Blockchain & Lightning Network | on: January 30, 2017, 12:07:52 PM

What's the target date on when you'd have a functional/secure subsecond transaction blockchain? This year? I think it's a pretty cool idea, reminds me of Vcash, except for the part where that dev randomly gave up on his codebase hopefully.

Yes, definitely this year.

There are fears highly connected Bitcoin lightning network routing nodes could lead to centralisation, and consequently privacy issues. Will veltor include an anonymous layer to mitigate such privacy issues when its lightning network implementation gets released?

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/exploring-the-centralization-risks-of-bitcoin-s-lightning-network-1462460852/

Quote
Lopp also noted possible censorship and privacy issues related to centralization among a small number of entities:

“Centralization among a small number of entities would also pose privacy and censorship issues, making it harder to route around uncooperative entities or those known to collect data for the purposes of deanonymization.”

Blockstream’s Rusty Russell, who is working on his own implementation of the Lightning Network, has noted his belief that the layer-2 protocol will likely feature a Tor-esque arms race between those who wish to preserve privacy and those who wish to abolish it. Russell and other Lightning Network developers are also working on Tor-style onion routing for the network.
3033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]*AICOIN*X11*AI* on: January 30, 2017, 11:48:32 AM
There was an AI coin in 2014/2015, but the dev gave up on the idea because he was concerned about needing a MSB license to sell his premined coins.

AI Coin cannot sell the coins created without requiring a MSB license. We were in the process of obtaining a FinCEN license, which is a US Federal License that specifies what sort of reporting is required to FinCEN. That agency routine accepts registrations. Our would-have-been partner exchange Bittrex is already registered with FinCEN, but not licensed in the 48 US States as an MSB.

Our attorneys said that all US cryptocurrency exchanges are categorized as MSBs as they interpret the FinCEN guidance issued last year. Although that requirement is not being enforced currently, AI Coin would have no available means of exchange in the USA should it have launched without the licenses, and a crackdown by the States shut down all the altcoin exchanges in the USA.

Yes, unless enough other members of your family get imprisoned to reveal the private key. If hammering rocks in the gulag/torture is enough to make you reveal a private key, it's probably also enough to make you reveal which members of your family hold a shared secret.
Likewise if they are torturing you for information and you don't have it but they think you do then you will be in for what one could call a "really long night". Better to use steg and a variation of rubber hose to double encrypt keys to two wallets, one with some money to satisfy the torturers, the other with the real money.

Of course torturers could torture everyone further to look for a "second key" but at some point they have to go home for dinner and a good game of Splatoon, so that's kind of self-limiting.

C
(BTDT)

What if there were so many torturers that they could use shifts to take it in turns to torture everyone? One group of torturers could be torturing while another group of torturers could be at home for dinner, and yet another group of torturers could be having a nice day off.

What could be worth the only thing in the universe that the state cannot take from you?

If the state has the power to take everything from you, I'm not sure how useful a bitcoin brain wallet is gonna be while you're hammering rocks in the gulag.

The thing that came to my mind immediately is that your family can use that money while you are imprisoned. (On a side note, there are far better methods than a brain wallet to protect your coins from seizure.

What methods?

The most obvious, some version of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamir%27s_Secret_Sharing

Using that in a certain way, I could limit my own access while providing access to someone I trust completely (immediate family). That way, my money can not be tortured from me, and my family can continue to use those funds to live, provide me with an attorney, flee, etc. when I am imprisoned.

Chinese new year up, think bitcoin will go up a bit now.

I agree JJG.  I can't get away from the feeling that something big is coming, and it does look more likely that the breakout will be upwards.  I'm fuelled up  Grin

maybe that the hacked bitfinex coins started moving?
https://www.reddit.com/user/MrChrisJ

Wo-wo-woah!  What effect is that likely to have?

The kraken has already frozen 0.4 Bitcoins sent to it. I expect Bitcoin.de, Coinbase, and CoinsBank will also freeze. That only leaves LocalBitcoins, BTC-e, Xzzx, and quadrigaCX. Even the obscure exchanges will probably freeze. They won't want to handle those coins.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitfinexs-hacked-bitcoins-move-5-recovery-bounty-offered/

Maybe the hacker shorted Bitcoin then moved the stolen coins to try to cause a crash.

Why would they freeze it? Just let them convert to fiat...then ask for KYC information to withdraw the money.

Mainly because of legal implications, plus all the publicity those coins have. Also they get a 5% reward for each Bitcoin they can return to Bitfinex. Obviously 5% of 0.4 Bitcoins isn't worth much to the Kraken. However if the hacker deposited a substantial quantity on other exchanges they could legally make a nice profit from freezing, then returning the coins.
