3026  Other / Off-topic / Re: TrueCrypt development ended - now insecure? on: June 02, 2014, 04:11:21 AM
Maybe you should look here:
"The first phase of the TrueCrypt audit found no serious problems with the Windows build of TrueCrypt."

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2304851/so-long-truecrypt-5-encryption-alternatives-that-can-lock-down-your-data.html

There is a theory that the TrueCrypt developers were approached by a government body and forced to weaken the security of TrueCrypt, and also forced not to tell anyone about it.

And so this would be their way of them telling us about it without actually telling us.

The fact that they recommend we switch to a closed-source Microsoft solution is just laughable.  Their advice for Linux users is "search for some other package".

Something fishy is definitely going on.

That is actually very possible in my opinon. Do you think they chose to shut down for the same reason LavaBit did?

This article lists a few possibilities: http://www.coinbuzz.com/2014/06/01/truecrypt/

3033  Economy / Services / Re: [HIRING] I need some quick design changes to my website (CSS). Paying Bitcoin. on: June 01, 2014, 05:55:43 AM
The first two items seem that they would be fairly easy to fix alone. I mean, doesn't the second one just include finding the <div> tag of the body and setting it's width: 100%; in the corresponding CSS?

Possibly, but I also need some help moving stuff around, resizing them etc.

...anybody?

Root Access Only, no panel

Sounds pretty insecure to me.
3035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone here get paid in Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2014, 05:48:24 AM
I have done freelance in exchange for bitcoin in the past.

I have noticed a HUGE amount of programmers here in San Francisco are starting to take bitcoin over USD for liquidity purposes.

Since when was Bitcoin more liquid than USD?
3036  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Satoshi Nakamoto become the richest person on earth? on: June 01, 2014, 05:47:13 AM
He already is the richest person in the world.

Evidence please?
3037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stay at day job (work or school) if suddenly filthy rich from Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2014, 05:46:04 AM
You are never "filthy rich". You can never be too rich. Cool
3038  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you rather:... on: May 31, 2014, 03:20:44 PM
I'm actually planning on doing the former pretty soon here, depending on salary. It'll give me a lot of experience, and I'll have quite a lot in the bank, but life will be hell.

After I build up quite a savings, and experience, I'll go on from there. I might have my first child at that point, maybe not. Not sure.
What if you get sick from that "life of hell"?You will have to invest all your savings in you health .......so is it worth that job ?

I was planning on living in the environment for about 4 years total (on and off over an 8 year period). The stress from 4 years of working this type of environment vs the chance of being a nervous wreck due to financials not being 100% there, I'll take the former.

As for my health:physically, my health would be improved. Mentally, it'll be a burden.

You already are living in "the environment", aren't you? Aren't we all?
3039  Other / New forum software / Re: Topic content preview on hover on: May 31, 2014, 03:18:44 PM
Or implement software that automatically shortens text and then display's it in a hover box, although that would mean a very complicated piece of software i'm afraid.

Do you mean like a summarising tool? If so then that requires an intelligent solution, plus it would need to deal with multiple languages and words that aren't spelled correctly. This isn't feasible.

Just the first 150 characters might be sufficient.

Isn't there some open-source tool somewhere that does just that (summarizes text/news articles)?
3040  Other / New forum software / Re: Two factor? on: May 31, 2014, 03:17:03 PM
Most bitcoin sites have it, seems like a good idea to be on here.

I dunno how much I'd trust inputting my phone number on this site, even if it is for 2FA.

It probably wont be mobile phone number verification but something like google authenticator or whatever.

You guy should really read around a bit more.

Fancy Authentication

In addition to normal password authentication, the forum should support various kinds of of alternative authentication. At least password auth, email verification, secret questions, OpenID, PGP, OpenVPN (automatic creation of subnets + IP source verification), and Bitcoin address signing should be supported, with multiple allowable credentials for each auth type. Users should have the option of requiring any combination of these auth types. Like "pgp OR (password AND OpenID)". And users should be able to require that changes to some or all auth types as well as the required combination of types not take effect for some configurable number of days. This allows for different types of recovery methods.

Also, it should be possible to limit the access for each auth type. So one type might be able to only read, but not post, etc. If the Web interface uses the same API that is exposed publicly, then these permissions can be in the form of allowed API commands.

It might be nice to make this functionality into a self-contained library that other sites can use.

from: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bHlm4NQkSzaBTT5tLIqQBmV92wSsbdOX5r-dRR9Dgg0/edit
which is linked here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=523070.0
which is the only sticky in the new forum software part of the forum.

Perhaps there should be a new forum modification to avoid sticky blindness Wink
